[Q] Google Checkout charges additional 2.90% + 0.30$ as tranasaction fee - General Monetization

Hi,
I am getting little bit confused about the charges by Google checkout for android apps. When I signed up for Google developer account, It was mentioned that 30% of the app sales price goes to Google as transaction fee.But in the Google checkout page in addition to 30% deduction, 2.90 % of app price + $0.30 is being charged for every transaction. When Google said there will be only 30% transaction fee for app developers to sell paid apps, why there is additional charges on Google checkout. .Please can some one who already have experience in selling apps throw some light...

I read that stuff and after a little more reading and research i found somewhere saying that it is only the 30% and the merchant stuff does not apply.
sorry i dont have any links or proof. ive not had time to add in-app purchases to my game yet.

AFAIK this 2.9% + 30c is for normal transactions (like if you have shop with Google Checkout payment option). For Google Play Apps you should be charged "only" 30% no more, no less. I advise to contact Google Support as you're probably being charged twice and losing money.

FreeCreditReport App

I saw a new App from Experian where you can access your credit report from your phone. Has anyone tried this? I already have an account with freecreditreport.com so I downloaded it, but I am too paranoid to enter my personal information.
check the webpage and support info on the app, if everything links back to the official experian websites should be ok...
not too many hackers with the balls to imitate big credit bearu names, lol
thats federal time there.
also browse google and see if there are any mentions from experian theirself about a release of a mobile app.
I would probably stay away from that app.... I don't know if that app is legit. I checked google and didn't find anything about it. I also went to the source experian.com and didn't find any info. Now I'm not saying it's bogus, but just suggesting that you stay away from it until confirmed that it's the real deal.

Looks a lot like their new iPhone app. I wouldn't worry about it.
I have been advised to not use freecreditreport.com, I have been told to instead use annualcreditreport.com
This below is from militaryonesource
Thanks to the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA), every U.S. citizen is entitled to a free credit report once a year from each of the three main credit reporting bureaus: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. There are three ways to order your credit reports: online, by phone, and through the mail.
To order your credit report online, go to www.annualcreditreport.com. This centralized Web site sponsored by the three main credit bureaus allows you to order all three reports and view them instantly online.
To order your report over the phone, call 1-877-322-8228. Your credit report will be mailed to you within 15 days.
To order a report by mail, you will need to fill out an annual credit report request form. Go to https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/requestformfinal.pdf to find a copy of this form online. Then mail the form to:
Annual Credit Report Request Service
P.O. Box 105281
Atlanta, GA 30348-5281
Due to security reasons, www.annualcreditreport.com does not work from overseas. If you're stationed or deployed outside the U.S., you can print the form to order your report by mail at www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/include/requestformfinal.pdf.
When you get your reports, look them over carefully. If there's anything you don't understand, call the credit bureau for an explanation. The reports include a lot of information and you may need some help interpreting them the first time you see them. Federal law requires that the bureaus make this help available to you. Here is the contact information for each of the three main credit bureaus:

Also it is probably best if you order only 1 report every 4 months so this way you can check your credit 3 times per year instead doing all 3 and having to wait another year for free reports. This is even recommended in the Frequently Asked Questions section.
Actually, you want to monitor your report. It is a good way to keep an eye on things. I use freecreditreport.com which is actually Experian.com and love it. I started using it at regular price which was around 15 a month, then I called and said I wanted to cancel, I couldn't afford it. They dropped in 50% now I pay 7 bucks. I pull a free one once or twice a month. It's quite essential to monitor your report. Don't listen to people who don't know how important it is.

"free"creditreport.com is fine to use as long as you know going in that it's not necessarily "free" (you have to sign up for credit monitoring services that charge). The only source for true free credit reports is the once-a-year annualcreditreport.com site.
I personally use creditkarma.com, it's free, you get a score calculated by your TransUnion credit report, and targeted credit card and loan offers even. Has a bunch of tools to help you manage your finances and credit too.
Thanks for the replies. I didn't find any mention of an Android app on the freecreditreport.com website. Doesn't mean it isn't legit, but you can never be too cautious.

seems intially that market has been hacked/compromised

Back in May of this year I had the same situation with Google check out.
It was a $50 charge on my card for games from a company named Glu.
Let me add I have never had any games on my phone/flyer. (I’m just not a gamer)
Glu will not answer my E-mails and will not answer the Phone.
After numerous E-mails Google seemed to be unconcerned with their security.
I had to demand they remove my account (which they did). However, they refused to remove my credit card number from their system.
I had my bank issue another CC (at some expense to me)
Just be aware if you give Google your information you will get zero assistance should a problem arise.
I now use other companies to buy apps.
Even worse it seems

Well I don't see how this is google's fault.
More like a case of the User being an idiot. Just like viruses on Windows. You will only get them if your an irresponsible user.

what is google refund policy regarding to dud software?

I know Google has a 15min refund policy, but I bought this game, after initial download from the PlayStore, it require additional download of 1.6GB, which took more than 15 minutes. After that the game would not run at all, I feel that I deserve refund for for a game that does not run on my device. Is there a way for me to get refund?

E-mail the developer, there should be an e-mail link in the market. Just explain the situation, if its a legit company (say you download Sonic 4 Ep1 from Sega, for example) the customer service should be willing to refund you.

[Q] Google Play Store - a dedicated forum on XDA?

I am wondering if there is a need for a dedicated 'Google Play Store' forum, and would like to see what the opinion of other users is.
The basis of my suggestion is as follows:
I have, over the last 4 years or so, purchased upwards of 200 apps, and of those 200 apps, 20% I use on a daily basis, 30% are just outdated and I have moved on and up, but there is nothing wrong with them..... but perhaps 50% are apps that I paid for and am disappointed with because they are just not 'fit for use' or the developer stopped updating what was already a buggy app.
15 minutes to fully test out an app for bugs and incompatibility is just not long enough, and there is no assurances that the developer will fulfill their promises of evolving, updating and fixing bugs that do appear.
A perfect example would be SPB Shell, $15 / £10 and a complete waste of money - enticing at the time, but immediately abandoned by the developer as the money rolled in, and those that had purchased it, where left flogging a dead horse. The developer had a standard response to the google play review complaints, saying they would pass complaints, bugs and suggestions to the developer, but nothing ever happened and SPB are laughing all the way to the bank!
Individually, an app is only a few $'s/£'s and we think "so what"..... but add all those up, and suddenly its a great deal of money!
I believe that 'Google Play Store' have a legal obligation when selling a product, no differently to a high street shop selling a television, in that, the public do not deal with the television manufacturer when there is a problem, and that the shop must respond to public concerns if a manufacturer is getting that shop to sell products 'not fit for use'
XDA has a huge influence on public opinion with its reviews, advice and membership evaluations of products and services, and I think Google Play and their app suppliers should be held accountable in a dedicated forum - reviews, issues, bugs.... the good, 'pat and clap'..... and the bad - "name and shame"
For each new thread, the developer is e-mailed and invited to join in the conversation for both encouragement and to be part of any resolution process - and whether they participate or not, can be taken as a reflection of their efforts and sincerity to their customers .... and we may reach a day where, like with SPB Shell, if there is enough of us, we could proceed with a 'class-action' that legally obliges Google to refund money for products that have failed to meet a required standard, or a written statement or promise from the developer on their 'play store' app sales page that has not been fulfilled, and that sets a new precedent for android user's and the spending of their hard earned money.
Whats everyone else's opinion?

No luck with Google, anyone tried Amazon?

Hello, I only published one app and was hoping it would at least get me my 25$ back.
I'm from Romania and I don't find 25$ to be a cheap price. The other problem with me being Romanian is that I can't open a merchant account, so I can only post free apps. My option was to use AdMob to get a little income. It wasn't much, having only gathered 4.40$ in 3 months. On top of that, my admob was suspended and I don't know why, I read the rules and as far as I know I didn't do anything wrong. I suspect someone purposely made fake clicks in my app just to mess with me.
I now decided to try Amazon App store, they let me publish paid apps even from my country. I know there were some people who asked for a paid version with no ads. I don't know how to deal with this situation now, I have the google play app which is free but it has a Donate popup. And then there's the same app (not yet approved) but without the donate links on the amazon app store.
Have you ever tried Amazon app store? Do people really buy apps there?
What do you suggest I do?

I had bad experience with Amazon store, they take long time to approve apps.
Imo there is no good enough alternative for Google Play at the moment
Same here, rather bad luck with Amazon to date...

I have tried amazon app store and publish it for free, i see your app is live wallpaper and as i know Kindle users do not like live wallpapers.
i suggest you try slideMe appstore.
Buddy... Wait till google add romania to the merchant list... ..

Both amazon and getjar weren't really useful for me. I did get more traffic from the Opera store. Since my game focuses on in app purchases to make $ it's hard to get traction on any other store since currently I use IAB.
What kind of app did you have? Games I think are most successful with ads, but in the end it depends from app to app, I guess.
You can try Samsung App here: http://seller.samsungapps.com/
I have bad experience with Amazon. Low downloads and last weeks Admob ecpm is extremely low (about 0.05). Has anybody tried to integrate Amazon's banner ads?
Amazon app store is an avenue that developers are still figuring out how to utilize optimally for their purpose.
I agree with most of what has been said here... I don't get even 1% of the amount of downloads from Amazon as I do from Play. In my opinion it is just not Amazon's focus as Play is "THE" store front for apps. I think like most business ventures, it has a lot to do with timing. What kind of niche are your getting into. If super saturated, you may need to create a category within a category in order to reach new users.
You can win Kindle Fire HD now for integrating their api.

Agreeing with previous posters that Google Play doesn't have a good enough alternative yet...
Have tried SlideMe and Amazon and neither have got close to the Play Store in my case.

True, but ARPU on Amazon is far better than on GPlay. Of course GPlay is x10 (at least) when it comes to its reach but if you have a good app, use Amazon's APIs (ads, inapps, etc.) and talk to them, you might get featured. My experience is they actually respond to emails
Amazon Appstore will not make you uber-rich but it's a valid option, much better than GetJar imho.
