[Q] Wifi tether not working FeraLab MIUI v2.4.13 ROM - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently upgraded to FeraLab MIUI v2.4.13 ROM and everything looks great but I can not get Wifi Hotspot/Tether not working.
Application installed on rom is Wifi Tether for Root Users: If i keep open (no encryption security) then it's visible on my laptop and I can browse as well but for some reason I can not see this Hotspot on my Samsung tablet. Has anyone experience this issue?
I tried removed the build in Wifi Tether app and re-installed from marked and tried lots of device profiles but no luck. When I select profile as Generic ICS/JB (I know this is wrong anyway) but then my tablet can see it but can not connect to the device.
I have also tried to use Barnacle Wifi but that doesn't work and it says it cannot get SU permission. I don't understand why because I get prompt to allow super user access and that appears in super user permission tab but it eventually fails complaining about the permission.
Any help will be highly appreciated.
Thanks.
P.S. I have locked boot loader but I don't think that should make any difference.

Try adding your wifi information on your own in your tab?

Thanks but I did try manually adding the ssid before and after re-installing the app without any luck. Hotspot conection was always appearing as "Not in range".

Hi I have never experienced this problem with In Paris v5. Those problems are usually router related. I would suggest the following:
1. Switch off router. Leave it off for a few mins and turn it back on again and try connecting from your tab.
2. If that doesn't work. Switch off router. On your tab go to settings->wireless and networks->wifi settings. Tap on your wifi connection's name and choose forget. Switch on router and scan for networks on your tab and try reconnecting to it.
3. If that fails too, download Wifi Fixer from market for free and see if that helps. Its an equivalent to Wifi settings on Android just like 'fix permissions' for the android system and app permissions
i have done that and my laptop and everything else can connect to the internet apart from the samsung tablet- do i need to flash anything as part of the custom rom install - to confirm all i did was wipe all data and a clean install of paris.v5 -

by "wipe all data", I assume you wiped cache and dalvik cache as well?
in that case, i suggest you try the third step I posted above which is to download Wifi Fixer from the market and it should help.
Try switching to a different channel on your router.

Delete the dhcplist file from your tab via root explorer or another file manager. Dejete the file then reboot the tab. If you google it you'll find where the file is located im at work and I don't remember lol good luck

Since you wiped data, you're not just forgetting a password for the wifi are you?
Thanks for the suggestions - i tried all the above and what and what made it work was the me deleting the dhcplist file - i rebooted my tab and after putting my password in it connected to the internet - so thanks again for all your help.!!

HELP! Problem with wireless tethering, please read for explanation!

Hi all, I've got a bit of a problem. After finally managing to root, hack bootloader and install MiniCM7(latest) I installed Barnacle Wifi tether and it was all working fine. Now, I don't remember exactly why now but while using root explorer I cleared the Dalvik cache in /cache and /data. After doing that and going back to the menu every app I had open started throwing up errors which was to be expected as i'd just deleted all the settings or whatever for them. anyway, I tried to reboot my system and it failed to boot so I had to re-install through CWM.
Ever since then i've not been able to get barnacle or any other wifi tether app working properly! What happens is that it installs fine, asks for SU permissions and when I click start it seems to be running fine. When I try and connect on my PC I see Barnacle and am able to connect but as soon as I do it kicks me offline again, the other wifi apps don't even connect or show connected but I get no access!
I've tried a few different custom roms but it's much the same really. So far i've managed to wifi tether through the standard wifi tether in settings but it's not the same and seems a lot slower than usual, plus I want to be able to download on my PC and use Android market at the same time and I can't do that with the standard SE tethering options. I've also tried many different suggestions to get wifi/tethering back through various threads in this forum and others but to no avail so far.
So, I'm wondering if anyone might know what I have to do to get it all up and running again as at the moment i'm tethering through USB and using easy tether as it seems faster and more stable but i'd rather be free of wires and be able to use Barnacle again.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions, they'll be much appreciated.
in to barnacle wifi tether app
go into settings
change Channel to 11
Skip wpa_supplicant (tick it off)
DHCP>Gateway = make sure your default gateaway is the same as your routers gateaway normally its 192.168.1.1
try those settings and see if that works

Orbot?

Hello, Im trying to use Orbot but my Ip doesnt change. It doesnt matter if I have Tor Everything checked or if I select apps to tor. When I start Orbot I get a warning that says "error starting transparent". (I did grant super user to Orbot)
Anything to do with an internet connection is SLOWED so greatly.
Anyone with any knowledge would be a huge help. Thank you.

What rom are you using because I am using ICS Omega and it does the same thing. It must be a problem with Orbots compatibility which is too bad.

Don’t know a whole lot about it but I read somewhere that Orbot's servers are just way slow.

from my experience with tor, it will always slow down an internet connection due to the nature of tor.
found orbot fix
What solved it was in setting first enable transparency proxy then choose your apps you want to proxy and then check off the use default iptables option and it should work.

That doesn't work for me. Still getting: "WARNING: error starting transparent proxying!" I'll see if a suggestion to use the Firefox browser with the ProxyMob addon is any more successful.
Sorry to here it did not work because my phone was doing he exact same thing so I uninstalled it but then gave it another try and it has worked since. I just played with those settings a little and it started working. I am using dolphin mini browser with success and my rom is Omega series 11.1 with latest SUCK kernal 3.0.15
Had the same issue, here is how i fixed it and have used multiple rom/kernel combinations with no issue.
Download droidwall from the market, run it one time (don't know if you have to do this but whatever)
Then I used es file explorer to navigate to
/data/data/com.googlecode.droidwall.free/app_bin/
copy iptables_armv5
now navigate to
/data/data/org.torproject.android/app_bin/
paste iptables_armv5
rename iptables to iptables.old
rename iptables_armv5 to iptables
reboot and profit.

CM 9.1 wifi not working, can't find a fix

I installed CyanogenMod 9.1 for Xperia U but the WiFi doesn't work, although it shows connected and worked before on the original ICS. I searched for hours in google and found no working solution for this.
Anybody has an idea how to fix it?
I tried reinstalling the ROM from the zip files on sdcard. I tried applying an Xperia Mini WiFi fix for CM 9.1, Xperia P WiFI modules, and that didn't work either.

Was your FW 6.1.1.B.1.54 stock or based, before flashing CM?
Did you fastboot the boot.img inside the CM rom before flashing the rom via recovery?
Turns out WiFi works, but not when I'm home anymore - it worked when I was at school. But I didn't change anything about my home Wireless Router. What could be the problem? The phone says it is connected and all, but doesn't open anything as if there was no connection. My phone is the only device that doesn't work with it now. I tried resetting the router, restarting...
It is connected, downloads apps at a speed of about 0.01 MB per minute and I can refresh the weather widget with it, but nothing more. And obviously I am next to the router and signal strength is max.

I had a problem that after several days of normal operation, the wifi would refuse to connect to any AP (weak signal issue)
This is the fix:
1. Turn off the wifi
2. Using a file explorer with root permissions go to /data/misc/dhcp/
3. Delete the files in it
4. Start the wifi again
P.S - I can't write this at the dev's thread (new user) so if anyone can, please write it there. I know other people encountered this problem too (at least on the Sola's thread)

Turn off WiFi in phone? Not the specific WiFi connection of the WiFi router? It still doesn't work - the speed is beyond extreme nano slowness. :s
How useful is an Android without internet? I crazy need to fix this. ;(
Bump.
Deleting dhcp doesnt work.
I found the solution:
Go to the wireless router settings on your PC, find and configure the Mode to be 11b/g, not 11b/g/n. Then it showed 20MHz Channel Width for me.
WiFi worked for me from then on.

First I would recommend making sure you have a network connection either through Wifi or cellular data. If that doesn't solve the problem going into application manager and then find the Market and clear the applications cache and data. Another possible fix would be running the fix permissions utility in recovery.
well i do got connection from a wifi or cellular data, but the problem persist when i try to use a market, when i'm downloading programs over market, than the message pops out saying to check the network connection, can you explain to me how do i clear the applications data from market, and how do i run the FIX PERMISSIONS..my phone is rooted.

To clear the cache and data for the Market open settings then navigate to application manager then select the all tab find the Market then select it you should then see the option to clear data and cache. For fix permissions you can boot into recovery go under the advanced section then select the the fix permissions option.

For backing up all your apps including system apps I would recommend taking a look at Titanium Backup. Your contacts can automatically be backed up through your Google account and can then easily be restored by signing into your Google account when setting up your ROM.

You definitely do not want to restore your system apps unless you know with certainty what you're doing. Many from stock will not function properly on Cyanogen and will cause looping Force Closes and may cause issues to the point that you have to do a Data Reset.
You should back up your contacts through another app or as an xml file and restore that way.

The Universal Inbox is a part of Motorola Blur and would not be compatible with CM 7 without heavy porting. You would have to use a Motorola Blur based ROM for the Universal Inbox apk.

yesterday i realize something strange going on with my droid 2..i was not being able to connect to my wifi. i went to a settings of the phone, i wrote down my mac address of the droid, than i enter to my router login page, and what i saw is everytime when i reboot my phone, that my phone is getting new mac address, even if i got cm7 installed in the phone.does that happening to all of you, or its just happening to me, than i went to a recovery and fix the permission, so its still mac address changed,so everytime when i want to connect to wifi i would need to enter my mac address,,what do i need to do to keep just one mac address of the phone like my other deivces..

I would recommend taking a look at this fix for the MAC address issue your having it's for the Droid Pro but should work for your Droid 2 as well.
