[Q] [q] [need help] in serious trouble with my s2 [need help] - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I bought this Galaxy S2 from a newspape article.
The device works but it won`t allow me to use my network. The phone had vodafone apps after I did a factory reset so I thought it was on vodafone. I tried all sorts os uk sims but all did the same.
When I try to call or text it says "not registered to network" and at the notification bar it says emergency calls only. The phone gets signal as it has full bars.
I kept changing to different roms with odin but nothing worked (even rooted it)
So please tell me step by step what to do to get it working, I love android and samsung now opposed to my iphone.
iMPORTANT STUFF ABOUT THE PHONE
Model number: GT-I9100
Android version: 4.1.2
Baseband version: I9100BULS1
Kernel version: 3.0.31-889555 [email protected] #3 SMP PREEMPT Thu Jan 31 14:48:54 KST 2013
Build number: JZO54K.I9100XWLSD
I live in the uk, phone is gsm and is NOT rooted now
Please help me out. Massive thank you in advance!
I can't go to an official store; don't have any documents btw

Try different modem or kernel if it didn't works probably is sim locked
Send from my SGS2 I9100 with HassanROM and latest DorimanX 8.xx kernel

And if it's sim locked, Galaxsim is the app for you.

Yes but I really need a guide. I would like to use it on the 3 UK network. So please link me to the rom/modem/kernel to make my S2 work in 3 UK

If only you had the intelligence to read what I wrote and realise that the phone is not locked to a network, I just need a new modem etc.
If you can't say something nice then don't say nothing. Very welcoming atmosphere on this forum though. You must have loads of friends.

Thank you for your advice; may I ask - do you need to root your device in order to use this app. This is my first android device :/

One other thing to check. ....
Go to settings
About device
Status
And look for imei number
If you have it (don't post it) no problem....if you don't.......best start searching for how to recover it.......

It does have an IMEI number, but I'll try the link you posted. Thank you!

Lsw is uk firmware and nels1 is three network modem found on apriliam3 thread. There are both modem/ril and just modem. As your stock flash the modem/ril. also check imei ent blocked on web site for free. Google it. Dose it have data access? If it dose prob blocked as will do this. Just blocks calls and texs. try it

Whenever you get a second-hand ROM you need to factory reset and wipe dalvik.
After that, flash whatever you want.
All these are a must.

My P500 doesn't display an IME either after installing Cyanogenmod... at least on the P500 it's a known issue, but beyond that you may have more luck in the galaxy forums, as there are more people there with the same device.
Just ask the moderator (PM) to move it.

I have same problem here cant call and text

buddy tell how to fix this!
Imei no base band eror solved
I have cross the same issue before... But my s2 working fine..
This error occurs sometime when flashing a new ROM. So, first of all you should backup your EFS-map. But for that it is too late hehe.
Reflashing works sometimes. I know that when installing a MIUI ROM you should also flash a zip-file that backups your imei, otherwise you'll have no carier. Maybe you should flash that EFS-backup zip-file and then reflash a ROM?
Hope is works for you buddy, goodluck.
you get it from Android market or new Android market, the only thing is your phone must have root, there is efs file and another file, not to sure but I flashed my Samsung galaxy back to Android 2.3.5 with a rom I got from Xda and now I dont have super user and the only way to use HC-KTool is if your phone has root, super user permissions, you can also try KTool is the same thing on the Android Market, you can also get Root explorer, rom manager they both have efs files but you must have root, so simple download new Android Market from 4shared.com then download HC-KTool or KTool from the new Android Market, good luck!
I am facing the same problem of unknown baseband version and IMIE no. Although i didn't do anything weird with my sgs2. I have been using it four 5 months now and its stock (Not rooted no any roms installed). Just today i faced this problem after i was changing between some sim cards. I tried factory reset a no. of times but it didn't help. Kindly help since i don't want to end up with just an "expensive media player" like someone quoted here! In dire state now

Yes, u are on right track.
As far as i am concerned, the KJ3 firmware, (one which you are using) is best. So, if u want stock, hold on to it.
It is the official stock firmware.
But, if u want to try some custom roms, there are many.
One of my favourite is "CHECKROM"
thank you so much for you quick reply....really appreciate.....

Well, i don't have any internet related problem. The download speed is normally very good.
It may be some modem problem. Do one thing, there is an update to KJ3 version available,i.e. KK2, may be that will fix your problem.
Just flash, it according to the procedure, mentioned in the intratech thread(link i posted earlier). Hope this will fix.

Hey there
I'm fairly new to rooting and I was using this guide:
cnet.co.uk/mobile-phones/how-to-root-your-samsung-galaxy-s2-50004972/
but I cant seem to find the kernel that is "similar" or "close to" as mine. I am currently on exact same stats as above:
Model: GT-I9100P
Android Version: 2.3.5
Baseband V: I9100PXXKI3
Kernel V: 2.6.35.7-I9100PXXKJ4-CL664063 [email protected] #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XXKJ4
also I seen people mentioning NFC which I have no idea if my phone has or not, but I do know I purchased it off O2 on "contract", I was wondering if I could still root my phone and which kernel would be SAFE to use
I am willing to speak via Skype (British) to have someone walk me through the procedure if that makes anyone's life easier.
thank you for any feedback :cyclops:

NFC, just google the meaning came with your phone.
Don't follow just any root my phone tutorial on just any site. If you mess up with your phone, those guys can't help you.
The is the easiest way to root your phone, You don't even need to flash any kernel.
good luck

im sorry but i read through that post and got totally lost, i do not see any sort of structure explaining my situation - nor did i find anything to do with the i9100P-XXKJ4 model - which is what im trying to find the correct kernel for =/
the Cnet guy seems the most simplest way to me, if only i had a kernel that i was sure would work - i would have a rooted sgs2 by now.

[Q] I give up....Help ??

Not exactly a newb. I have flashed custom roms rooted phones and other advanced things but there seems to be an awful lot of different ways to do what i want to do. This is literally my first time asking for help i can always find the answers i need maybe im just getting old
Phone information

Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000M

Ok i want to root it that's it nothing fancy some apps i use need superuser to run so .... ya. Really im looking for the easiest least painful way to do this i looked at the Siyah kernel that looks like a winner but is it really necessary to change the whole kernel ? I have no intention for the foreseeable future of using custom roms or anything like that quite pleased with the stock one for now plus it's a brand new phone really am not in the mood to brick it or do something silly yet maybe in another year lol . Anyone got a step by step process to root it even it it requires a kernel change then so be it i would also like recommendations on what kernel to use in that case software to use etc etc.... I would appreciate anyone who can take a few minutes to help out .
Thanks !

I understand your concerns but Siyah is really what you need. For daily usage you will not see a difference to a stock rom other than some speed increase and better battery life so it’s winner at all fronts I think Also simple flashing odin version of Siyah is a lot safer than messing with stock rom’s and rooting programs. Not mentioning a lot easier and faster. For your consideration.

Yea it is a sgs 2. You're carrier is bell.. Right? You can root and flash anything in the I9100 forum.

Ok so just want to make sure i get this right. I read there was no specific kernel for our phones (bell) so if i want to stay close to stock it looks like i would use CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_LPQ-PROPER-v5.4-CWM5.zip and odin . Or i can use Siyah looking at Siyah-v3.3.1 already have it downloaded any problems with that version are there better more stable ones i should use instead ?
I guess i can use Odin for either ?
Enter download mode
click pda select file
click start
done ?
No need to wipe anything is there ?
Yep. Go for it. Any will do it .
I've used SiyahKernel allot and it's been great. It will install touch CWM recovery as well so you can nandroId backup your while ROM. Lots of other bells and whistles too, but no one forces anyone to use or tweak them off you don't want.
Flashing these kernels (via Odin) increase your flash counter and warning triangle on boot.
For ICS firmware use Chainfire Triangle Away app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22463153#post22463153
For GB use USB jig (depending on bootloader version) or follow Chainfire method in his CF-root thread.
You could also use zergrush root method and no CWM recovery.
**Most important; backup your EFS folder. If this ever gets corrupted , it is difficult to repair, mostly cannot and phone will not be able to make cellular connection.** Edit: EFS file its where your IMEI is located, without it any Carrier won't recognise the SIM.
Just search here in XDA and there are also a number of root app In Google Play.

Need help finding insecure kernel please

Hi, My names Drew, and I just recently joined xda to tinker around with my phone and explore the possibilities that the manufacturers apparently didn't want us to have. I have had my phone for quite a while and I felt it was time to play with it some more. I am have the Samsung Galaxy S2, it is StraightTalks version of it, here are the details on it found through the about-phone.
Firmware: 2.3.6
BasebandVersion: S720C.01 VLI02
Kernel Version: [email protected] -55 #2 PREEMPT Wed Sep 12 10:20:26 KST 2012
I was not sure of which information was needed to get a insecure kernel version, as I could not find anything specifically geared to my phone on these forums. I was unable to directly post on the developers thread due to my low post count (which I would hope should soon get higher as time moves on). So basically, to the point, what insecure kernel should I use since I am a first time rooter? I understand everything here in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125414 except for step two when it's talking about kernal versions.
I moved your question to a new thread in the proper forum where someone can help you out.

I am not sure(gb is old school) but your kernel version isn't exactly shown, and your current kernel already kinda looks like a insecure kernel, I suggest that you dial *#1234# check the pda info and since the kernel usually matches the firmware(pda) version get one kernel according to that.
Edit: Safer thing to do would be to upgrade to JB and rooting it(which is fairly easier I think).

Ok I dialed *#1234# and I get a verizon operator saying this. "Welcome to Verizon wireless. Your future/feature? update could not be completed. Please try your call again". JB = Jellybean? How do I update my phone to that, I tried to do a system update and it says my phone's already up to date.

Just get a stock jb operating system from sammobile and flash via Odin, there are a lot of threads that cover those matters, read stickied threads, it's a really easy and simple procedure, just be careful not to make mistakes (like suddenly flashing pit files).

I went on sammobile, and looked through their firmware list and mine was not even on there. So that brings me to my next question, since mine is a straight talk phone, and is NOT on the list, is there a possibility that my phone will be bricked flashing a stocked jb operating system to it?

What do you mean by "straight talk" is it some kind of network operator, and are you using some kind of network unlocked device (I am asking because you mentioned Verizon), I will tell you one simple thing though if your device model( as given in the about phone - >model number) is GT-I9100 then it's safe to flash any i9100 JB firmware (especially since you're on GB) if the phone gets sim locked or something you can use the unlock apps available here or in the playstore to unlock it.

When people mention US carriers the first question you ask is:-
'The sticker on the phone chassis, under the battery; what does it say ?'

It was actually SCH-S720C, sorry I was being a busybody on android area51, I managed to solve my own issue and root my phone. With all the trouble of trying to figure out which insecure kernel I needed to flash, I found out that my phone is actually the Samsung Proclaim, even though I have never heard my phone be called that before. And yes it was Straighttalk, its like Net10. Sorry to leave everyone who replied since my last reply hanging, I have been very busy lately. Thanks for replying on my thread to help me out.
