Flash daylies without loosing data? - Ubuntu Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
so today ive been able to set my ubuntu touch with the latest apps , corrected the timezone and all that on my Nexus 7.
One thing that i dont know is , it is possible to flash the daylies without loosing the apps and all that?

You can do it by typing "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade" inside terminal.

Do you mean that this will flash the latest build without loosing my data/apps?
If so that's very cool.

I try your method from terminal and it works good. That's all? With this l never have to flash zip update again? Thanks.

You will have to flash zip yet, but only if in your sudo apt-get upgrade, you see something with "platerform-api" or "hybris".

Ok thanks, in this case I have to use the daily update, true?

From the terminal inside Ubuntu touch is there a command that we can type to verify what number of build we have?

No because there is no daily update for plateform-api and hybris, just once by week. anyway, today or tomorrow will be Saucy builds by default, thus you will have to update your system with flash.

Ok great thing, thanks

Flash Saucy this morning. I replace my cm10.1 backup and then flash Saucy zip file. There is a method to see ubuntu phone by windows

Why can't I receive official updates?

Hi, as the title, I just have got root permits and I have got by Clockwork Manager that says "this version should be used with CF-CWM v.1.1 or newer. It appears if you running a different recovery. Some features has been disabled"
When I have tried to upgrade my system I have got the message that the device has been modified and there aren't updates available!
What is mean? Why have I got the message?
Which anomalies could I have?
On my phone I have installed the last official Rom JB.
Thank you for your attention!

Manually download the right updated version and flash it with odin. Good luck. You could also try unrooting and having your counter reset using triangle away.

And then why can't I upgrade my phone with officials updates?
I followed a guide and unfortunately I can't post the url address of the site with the guide...because I have sent few posts (I'm young user here..) on this forum.
This guide explained step by step all what to root the phone and said to download a file package with Odin and cf-root files.
Can you tell me, step by step, what I need to solve my problem?
Anyway I remember that I just set the phone in download mode and I plugged the micro usb cable with Odin loaded on pc; then I selected the cf-root file version 6.1.

Someone does know the same issue?
edit: this issue doesn't always appears..

[Q] CM hides my old "stock" partition.

Hey guys,
I recently installed first CM 10.1 then PACman rom on my i9300. Before that I used roms based on the stock samsung roms (Darky, Chaos, Wannam, etc). As soon as I flashed CM all my files dissapeared from my intrnal SD card, at first I thought that it had been formatted not knowing that CM installed itself on /sdcard/0. Last night when I went on and installed the PACman rom I noticed that from CM, when I navigated the sdcard to install the .zip the files I was browsing through were my old files and realized what had happrned. Now my question is how can I browse these files so that I can delete them and free up all that space? I tried using different root explorers both on my phone and on the PC but I just can't get to my "old" files. Any suggestion? Thanks.
Inviato dal mio GT-I9300 con Tapatalk 2
do you have old files in your phone or they are gone??
secard/0 directory is accessible from PC and from root explorer too.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
So, the default directory I see when starting the file explorer from the phone and the pc is /sdcard which has the "new" files and no subfolder named 0. I tried going to /storage/sdcard0 and /storage/emulated/0 but it takes me to the same folder. The strange thing is that when in cwm recovery I go to "install update from sdcard" I see the "old" folder and have to go to ./0 to get to the files I can access from the phone and pc.

That's the way Android 4.2.x works not specific to CM, but yeah your advise holds Search thoroughly before asking questions.
Your old internal sd data that you were using with Android 4.1.2 is now in /data/media when you are using any Android 4.2.x based ROM
Thank you vary much! Found it! Sorry for reopening this topic, I did not know what to look for

[Q] Install packages on ubuntu touch

Hi,
I have just installed ubuntu touch on my Samsung galaxy s3 using the help of this link :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2315397
I am unable to post on that particular thread that's why i am creating a new thread here.
My question is : how to install any package on the ubuntu touch that I just installed??
Eg: say vim, or libcups....
I got the terminal.
When I try to install a package, sudo apt-get " " prompts for a password which I don't know.
Is there any other way to install packages? Do I have to create my own ubuntu build containing those packages and then install that on my phone??
Any help will be really great!
Thanks
Try "ubuntu" as the root password
...or "phablet"

Which is fine... But once in a while you will want to use
Code:
phablet-flash cdimage-touch
as not all parts of the OS will update via apt-get.
A perfect example is when they flipped the container...
Flash the image to your device with this command:
phablet-flash ubuntu-system -b
Click to collapse
All your data will be erased!
After that go into the system settings and check for updates. You'll be able to update it via the settings now without a PC.

[Q] Updating

Once rooted should I disable updates or should I continue to accept Amazon updates?
I'd like to believe the updates will improve the OS but I'm not sure at all if that's actually the case.

There is a nifty trick, the app "Android Firewall" can be used, you can use the android cowboy website to find out how it works.

I concur. Firewall does nothing to block updates.

Nope. BUT if you have SS instaled from both stock & working rom slot, it cannot complete the update. That means you reboot into SS & just reflach older bin (complete bin, not the stripped version from Hash) & then flash supersu & update your build.prop to reflect the new version.

So basically you're saying, if I'm on stock rom and have SS installed and my device gets updated automatically. I can still go back to SS and restore it to older version and get my root access?
