[Q] AT&T One X+, Cannot boot into recovery, red exclamation mark and phone image - HTC One X+

Hey guys,
After months of going through every possible related thread, or almost every one, i've reluctantly had to resort to opening a new one.
I have the AT&T HTC One X+ and I wanted to use it in Pakistan with the service provider being mobilink, Initially my phone was locked so I had to purchase an unlock code online. Once unlocked I inserted my Pakistani sim and I could make calls but wifi would not connect to any network and mobile data would not work at all. Frustrated, i turned to rooting and installing a custom ROM for the first time ever, thinking it would solve my problem according to my research on this forum. In retrospect I might have been wrong.
Nevertheless, I installed CM10, the brainchild of the highly esteemed Lloir, without any hitches via Hasoon's toolkit. I didnt care about my data and tried to make a recovery but I might have failed. Anyways, I downloaded the RUU as well. Everything was fine except the problems we all knew about i.e the calling issue, the camera, etc. Except, my problem was still not solved; my Pakistani sim always had the same effect, wifi and mobile data would stop working. It would take a factory reset to be able to use wifi and MD at all.
Frustrated, i wanted to try another ROM, namely Viper. Here is where the current problem began. I followed the steps on Hasoons toolkit thread to uninstall the custom ROM, revert to default, and relock the bootloader. Ever since i relocked the bootloader I havent been able to either unlock it again, nor boot into recovery. Command prompts never work for me because I'm obviously doing something wrong. But i did set-up the android sdk custom prompt thing and made the desktop shortcut and that seems to at least recognize my phone when its not in fastboot (as does my windows 7 ultimate 64-bit laptop), or in other words, when i'm using the phone proper and not in bootloader.
So, to highlight my issues: i'm stuck with a relocked bootloader with the default ROM (i did manage to revert back from CM10 before relocking), and i cannot boot into recovery. Luckily, i'm $10/month for insurance so I can get another phone for $200 but I'd rather man up and fix this myself with your help of course.
Please help,
Thanks,
Ammar.

Why not just flash a ruu again and start from scratch? It does it all for you.
You won't be able to get into recovery, manipulate fastboot and install roms etc since u locked your bootloader.
Relock bootloader, run ruu, unlock bootloader then flash custom recovery via fastboot and install a rom.
Find the ruu here for:

bootloader is already locked, i've flashed the default ROM, still can't unlock bootloader or go into recovery. upon clicking recovery in bootloader menu phone shows a red triangle on top of an image of a phone and then phone restarts.

Run the RUU my man. Running that reverts everything back to default. No recovery or anything. It's just like you got your phone out of the box

He's right. I locked mine up a few weeks ago and used RUU and it was like I took it out of the box. Unlocked bootloader and started over again. Worked like a charm.

Everyone should have the RUU on hand just incase something like this happens

[Q] AT&T One X+ stuck in boot loop

Hi, My AT&T One X+ is stuck in a boot loop after trying to root. I think the problem is that I was using a method to root a non-AT&T One X+. I had the boot loader unlocked, and I have tried to factory reset but it goes into a boot loop. I am stuck, and I don't know what I can do.

Using something for the international version on the AT&T version is definitely your problem. I do no understand why people can not read. You will be lucky if your device is not broken depending on waht tool you used. Now to try and fix, Go into the boot loader using power button and volume down. Go to fastboot and flash the STOCK AT&T RECOVERY. DO NOT USE AN INTERNATIONAL VERSION THEY ARE NOT FOR YOUR PHONE. Run the RUU with a locked boot loader. Alternatively You can flash AN AT&T RECOVERY and use the sideload option to try and place a AT&T ROM on the phone. Use recovery to install the zip.
WARNING: IF THIS DOES NOT WORK I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THAT DOES NOT WORK.
I think it's very hard to completely brick these phones with S-ON. You should try running the RUU and start all over again, using the all-in-one toolkit and follow the instructions here.
The similiar thing happened to me just the other day.
Heres what I did
Relock bootloader
Download stock AT&T RUU
Run RUU
You should have a stock phone now. That's what happened with mine anyway. This is my experience. I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone.

How did you do it? Where can I get the stock rom, and how do I flash it? I am new to android phones, I just switched from iPhone where everything is pretty much the same for every phone. I need as much help as possible. How do I relock the bootloader, and will AT&T be able to tell it was unlocked?
Search within hasoon2000's posts. He has the stock ruu posted somewhere.
I don't have htcs instructions in front of me but I'm pretty sure they explained how to lock the bootloader when you were following their instructions to lock it.

This is the RUU you need:
http://www.htcruu.com/?dir=EvitaRE
Not sure what the exact steps are to flash it as I've never done it but I think it would go something like:
Boot phone into bootloader and connect it via USB to your computer
Lock the bootloader, from your computer run: fastboot oem lock
Then from the computer execute the RUU .exe you downloaded above
If you downloaded the all-in-one toolkit, you could instead select "Relock Bootloader" and then "Do Command" and follow the instructions.

Thanks for the link, I had a link to a bad download before. My only problem now is that the phone is not detected by the computer anymore. Is there anything I can do? Is there a certain mode that I need to be in for using the RUU?
I was able to get my computer to detect the phone and install the drivers. The RUU is currently running. I was wondering if anyone could help me to find the right method to root my phone.

Search around the forums for the stock ROM. Make sure you use the right model RUU. INTERNATIONAL AND ATT are not the same. Once you've located the RUU, use hasoons toolkit to relock your bootloader (there is an option for that). ATT will be able to tell if you've relocked because it says "relocked" at the top of the screen when you run hboot or fastboot.
The RUU will install the stock ROM once you launch the program from your PC. it will take about 5-10 minutes to do so. Once it completes your phone will reboot and it will be stock. Let me know if you need help flashing a custom recovery and ROM

There are many ways to root.
1) install recovery using hasoons toolkit
2) install recovery using fastboot or adb.
There are other ways but #1 is what I recommend. Very easy to follow instructions

Just go flash a custom rom. Everything will go back to normal then.

Damn, not sure what happened...

So I tried overwriting cwm with twrp using a few methods i found online. The last one was this link here-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1764398
I guess i didnt bother to see if it would work on our phone before screwing it up. Well anyway I ran that command and it basically wiped everything on my phone and Sense wont load up anymore.
I can boot into CWM still, and the phone boots up to the lock screen, but when i unlock it, it just goes to either a black screen or a white screen with green HTC written on it, then reboots.
What can i do to fix this? I have a backup saved on an external hard drive at home which i cant get to for another 10 hours -.-
But I tried running the "factory reset" option on CWM and it didnt help at all. Ideas?
Do u have the at&t x+ or the international x+?

I also used the correct boot image when i used the command i noted, but obv i didnt do any research to see if the command was usable for this phone. Any idea what i could do? Just re-flash another image or something?
Ok so u need to grab the At&t ruu file and ruu the device

U can only flash a Rom in custom recovery. And at this point u might not have the correct custom recovery on the device. Another thing is did u read the full instructions on how to run ruu? I wanna make sure that u don't run into any problems with this process

Is this an appropriate link for information on using the RUU?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841890
Or do i simply connect via fastboot, and then run the exe for our phone?
Also, is this the correct RUU?
http://www.androidfiles.org/ruu/sec....55.17_18.20.95.55L_release_290329_signed.exe
Edit: Also, I have twrp 2.4.4.0 running on my phone now.
If you have TWRP working now on your phone, simply sideload an AT&T/TELUS rom of your chaoice and you should be good to go after that. Don't forget to flash the correspondent boot.img. Otherwise, yes this is the RUU you need for your phone. (CINGULAR)

Hmm, sideloading didnt seem to work. I have a file called "venom" on my phone now, but its still doing the same thing, and i cant get ADB to run again (adb devices returns nothing) to copy over boot.img either : /
im gonna try a few more times and then run RUU i guess...
edit: i ran RUU and it ran into an error, saying that the RUU isnt for my phone (even though it is?)
Attempting to run again. Will update with what happens...
edit2: same thing happened. What should i do at this point?
Exact error is:
Error [155] unknown error
rom update utility cannot update your android phone
please get the correct rom update utility and try again
Edit3: ok, this thing is really ****in with me. I was able to get sideload to actually work this time, venom installed and is booting up. Hopefully it makes it to the home screen this time >.<
You have to relock the bootloader and then run the ruu. http://www.androidfiles.org/ruu/sec....55.17_18.20.95.55L_release_290329_signed.exe is the correct ruu for the at&t version. After the ruu is finished then you unlock the bootloader and flash a custom recovery. Then flash away If you don't relock the bootloader the ruu will fail and not install.

Bricked device won't respond to RUU

Ok this is odd. I tried to go fully stock from Newt Sense 5 1.0.4 ROM so I can completely install the rom from the ground up (I had black boxes show up when the 1.0.4 patch was installed on some menus and crashes in settings).
I relocked the bootloader and used RUU which wiped the CWM Recovery and the ROM from the device but then it gave me this error and now the phone will not boot past recovery and will not allow me to re-unlock my bootloader for whatever reason. Any ideas? Any help would be appreciated since my phone is pretty much a paper weight right now.

There is always something wrong with his ROMs, including the ones he made for the Thunderbolt. . I tried flashing one of his a week ago. The phone would not connect to the network, wifi worked. I ran a different rom still no connection, ran the RUU, no luck. I had a new sim put in, and wound up getting the unit replaced.
Are you S-Off? Are the proper drivers for your computer installed?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1928439
Also did you have the eng hboot and did you switch back to the pre ota hboot before relocking? Cause if you locked with eng then that will definitely brick your phone. If that didn't happen and you can still get into fastboot then it's just your on the new hboot and RUU won't run with the new hboot. Just flash the pre ota hboot then run the RUU that should make it run.

Youre not bricked. As long as you can get to the bootloader menu there is hope. You have to re unlock using the unlock token HTC emailed you through fast boot . fastboot Flash unlocktoken unlock_code.bin I believe is the command. Then after reflash your ROM through recovery
Flash twrp recovery if possible via fastboot if you don't already have it, adb sideload a stock rom

[Q] Trouble flashing ROM, believe is due to S-OFF

Hello. So I've tried multiple times flashing ROMs to my device, and have always had problems somewhere along the line. The furthest I got was successfully flashing this ROM, but it ended up in a boot loop. I believed it was due to my device being S-ON, even though I've successfully rooted and unlocked my bootloader via HTCdev and thus I've been attempting to get S-OFF. I tried JuopunutBear but got an error message related to checking my adb and fastboot drivers (Which I'm fairly sure are up to date and working) and I think the problem is I am on HBOOT 1.57. I've been attempting to downgrade using this guide (Which uses Revolutionary to get S-OFF in which case I wouldn't need JuopunutBear). I only got a bit of the way in, however, before I got stuck. After relocking my device it tells you to put the RUU zip on your device, but my computer isn't detecting my device and I'm stuck in the bootloader. I've tried shutting it off, trying all the options in the bootloader, taking out the battery, entering commands into adb, and probably some other things I've forgot, but I'm still stuck on the bootloader and my device isn't detected at all on my computer (Either in command prompt or in the explorer window).
Essentially what I'm asking here is:
How do I get my phone unstuck from bootloader?
Do I need S-OFF to be able to flash ROMs?
If I don't need S-OFF, what was I doing wrong? Should I try a different ROM?
And I suppose I may as well ask if that's a worthwhile ROM. I want something that optimizes my device and allows for custom themes, but otherwise I'm not too picky.
Specs:
Windows Vista (With ADB and fastboot, as well as HTC Sync and other phone drivers. Essentially I think I have all the software I'd need installed.)
HTC EVO 3D CDMA with Virgin Mobile as the carrier.
HTCdev unlocked bootloader
S-ON
HBOOT 1.57
Stock ROM
4ext recovery
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!
(Also I apologize if I didn't give all the information needed or if I posted this in the incorrect spot. I figured this would be the most appropriate spot since although I have issues with specific processes it's also a fairly general request for help.)
UPDATE: I tried re-unlocking my phone using HTCdev so I'm no longer stuck in bootloader. I'm going to be trying the HBOOT Downgrade Toolkit guide again sometime today or tomorrow to see if I can get it working. I think one of the problems before was that I didn't put the RUU on the sdcard beforehand and then my device wasn't being recognized so i couldn't put it there then. If I put it on beforehand I should be able to update successfully and get past the step I was stuck on before.

It will be your hboot causing the problems.
Most recoveries allow you to mount usb storage so you can use that option to connect to your pc and move the ruu across without removing your sdcard etc.

Reboot issue after re-lock

Hey ppl,
A while back I got a software update notice, so select the OTA and let it run. It failed to update my OS, so I relocked the bootloader thinking that may be the issue, and tried to update again. Now, every time the phone reboots it boots into the bootloader screen.
This issue is causing me to not be able to reboot into recovery, so I can't put any new ROM on the phone.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.

You, probably need to run an RUU.
It'll restore your phone to complete stock form so you can start over. It's an official tool, you can download it and run it on your PC but you have to download the one made specifically for your phone model.
I'm assuming you have the AT&T One? Are you s-off or s-on? Depending on which you can skip to that section in this guide : http://www.htc1guru.com/guides/return-stock-guide/
It seems pretty detailed though I haven't used it myself. Besides that there is a ton of info about how to run RUUs so do some searching first.
