[MOD][APK] 9/14 AOSP 4.2 Themeable MMS for Deodex MDK & ME7 TW ROMs - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

9/14 Update. Now attached below is a working zip file for ME7 bases with contact fix for ROMs that include blocking mode.
Sup All,
I'm not a developer, just a very big fan of AOSP messaging and wanted to share progress I've made on getting it working with our VZW S4s.
I take no credit for the messaging app, only for minor tweaks and workarounds found to make it functional for our devices. I also take no responsibility if you don't follow exact directions and bork something. It is always recommended to do a nandroid backup to be on the safe side. The flashable zip I have attached below should work with any deodexed Touchwiz ROM. This WILL work on odex but requires the workaround when sending MMS to view the photo before sending.
MAKE SURE YOU CHOOSE THE CORRECT ZIP FILE for either MDK or ME7 base.
***WARNING, MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP SMS/MMS BEFORE FLASHING as this will wipe your current inbox!!!
There is a zip below with the FULLY THEMEABLE aosp MMS (font size and color, any color backgrounds, etc) with options for quick reply and has read, reply, and call in the dropdown panel. Also with working emoji and option for quick toggle for emoji in the compose box. Check out the screenshots below.
Directions:
1) MUST be rooted with a custom recovery.
2) Download the correct zip file attached below dependent of your base of MDK or ME7. If using the ME7 version, you will also need to flash the contacts fix zip provided by @notstevek if you are running a ROM that includes blocking mode.
3) MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP MMS/SMS BEFORE FLASHING!!! The newest zip will delete your current inbox.
4) Flash the zip in custom recovery. I am using TWRP but any custom recovery should be fine A nandroid is always recommended to be on the safe side
5) PROFIT, you should now have fully functional AOSP 4.2 messaging with working group messaging and no workaround needed for MMS
Let me know if you have questions and I'll help to the best of my ability.
For the best support from here on out please head over here and give @CPA Poke some love. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=42868475
Cheers and enjoy!!
**couple notes thanks to helpful users**
-Group messaging from Iphone users can come through wonky. If you use group messgaing with Iphone users...shame on you but keeping group messaging unchecked in settings should still give you single thread views.
-Selecting your own contact pic within a conversation will also cause a forceclose. This has been a known issue since 4.1 with Aosp messaging and touchwiz. So in the meantime just try and remember who you are, what your number is, where you live, and what you look like without clicking your own pic
-GIFs will be received as still images.
Big Thanks and Credits to:
@CPA Poke for the current zip and who got this working with no workarounds!!!

Yeah, I'm with ya! I tried really hard to get used to touchwiz or a 3rd party app but just love that aosp
Wishing your Bruins good luck tonight. I'm a lifelong diehard Sabres fan and a Buffalo native (Colorado now) so I have to root for my hometown Buffalo boy Kane tonight

OP updated with a few screenshots.

I havent tested this on stock but as long as you are rooted and able to rename the needed files, then yes this should work.

The ability to reply/dismiss from the pulldown is probably my most desired feature, not to mention the overall look and feel of AOSP far outclasses TW!
Still working great several hours later!
Bruins lifer here - Born and raised in Portland, Maine and played hockey growing up (still is, in my mind, the best major sport out there bar none). Should be a great series - any time two Original 6 teams lace up you know it's going to be wild!

Great! Glad it's still going smooth.
And yes, gonna be an awesome series for sure!! I'm actually heading out for an ice hockey bar league game of my own now so will miss most of game 1. Couldn't agree more about being the best sport....that's why I haven't been able to stop myself from playing even as I'm starting to slow down a bit in the upper half of my thirties

I haven't had a chance to try group messaging with this(just don't ever have a group to message lol) but I think they are sent as MMS in which case they may not send due to the lack of a work around similar to the one for photo MMS.
I'm about to hit the ice but will try and look more into it later. For now maybe just keep group messaging unchecked in the settings. And if anyone else can test and report back for frequent group messaging users it would be greatly appreciated.

it's there any way to make the stock color one

[ROM][ICS] Senseless ICS - 5/8/2012 - EVEN MOAR AOSP

First ROM for me. Spent the day half studying for a Calculus final and the other half making this.
Overall I'm very happy with it. Smooth, Stable, and ICS makes it look great.
Disclaimer: I'm not responsible for what happens if something goes wrong. I've tested it a lot and it should be fine.
5/6/12
Removed a lot of Sense and HTC files. Not 100% Senseless yet, but I don't really want to break anything.
Added Apex Launcher.
Added ICS Boot Animation.
Added AOSP Browser, Calculator, E-Mail, Messaging, Calendar
Added working Sprint Voicemail.
5/8/12
ICS Status Bar and ICS Settings.
MMS limit raised and defaulted to 5 MB
Some camera mods.
Added ICS Keyboard. Not default yet though.
Bugs: - I hate bugs. They'll be resolved or mitigated when my finals are over.
Can't seem to find a way to enable 4g on the ICS Notifications...
Lockscreen gets in the way of picking up calls. I consider this a bug. Not a privacy feature.
Music controls don't show up on the AOSP lockscreen. Using LeeDroid's AOSP Lockscreen fixes. Not sure if wallpaper is supposed to show up or not though.
If you find a bug then please PM me or discuss it in the thread.
Todo:
Take some fancy schmancy screenshots,
Theme framework-res.apk, Settings.apk, SystemUI.apk to AOSP ICS. # Half done.
Integrate Leedroid tweaks in a week. # Not really necessary anymore.
Apply some speed tweaks. IMO not totally important b/c there's not much speed gains to be had with much of anything besides cache size boosting or overclocking, but maybe Android has something I've never seen before in an OS.
Not sure of the stability of the file host. Will actively search for a place to mirror.
Download ROM
Download ICS Notifications
Mirrors:
https://rapidshare.com/files/1803980693/ics-signed.zip - Thanks herousr!
Install Instructions:
When the leak came out, I flashed Freeza's firmware. IDK what the verdict is on whether or not it's reversible or not, but I personally haven't seen any problems with reception or what not.
With that said:
1. Backup your Data with Titanium Backup or similar. I would also suggest a Nanddroid in case you want to go back.
2. Do whatever wipe style you like. I typically do a Factory Reset and then a System wipe from TWRP.
3. Flash the ics-signed.zip
----- If you want access to 4g or like the Sense status bar or the Sense Settings, do not continue. -----
4. Load the ROM. I haven't been able to avoid the step for whatever reason. Most likely my lack of skill with update-script.
5. Go back into recovery and install the ICS Notifications.
Download ROM
Download ICS Notifications

It does not. MMS completely works from the stock app though and you can just disable the notifications from the AOSP one or remove the App with Titanium Backup or not.
I was debating putting it in there, but I figured that I liked how it looked so I might as well.

Idk if anyone remembers empiires suprarom but after reading the description in the op for some reason it reminded me of that, using a sense base getting as close to aosp as possible with losing that sense functionality. Any chance this'll be laid out in a similar manner?

Yes, working 3d and 2d.
Had to move the ROM to my server and it's not spectacular so if anyone could mirror it it'd be great. Since Megaupload got taken down I haven't found a good file host that allows > 300 MB.
I'm working on pulling this damn update together with what I want it to have which should theme it to almost full ICS. But the zip just isn't agreeing with me.
You thinking a builds later tonight or tomorrow?

Get ICS AOSP apps on Sense 3.6 Evo 3D [UPDATE-2] [+Calender App]

Hi all, I have not created the mod or apps. So all credit goes to the people where I gathered it from. Just thought of sharing it here because it was hard myself looking for it all the way. And since I found it, I'd like to share it with you guys.
ICS Notification Bar. Flash in recovery and you're good to go. NANDROID PLEASE. (Changes phone settings to stock ICS too) (Credit to VladBelsky, got this from his forum): http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?h42x34ar49xk5t5
ICS Messaging Application (Doesn't replace your default app, freeze it in Titanium): http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?g1rufbrrkbra6sb
ICS Gallery Application (Install as a regular .apk file and it DOES NOT support 3D pictures for obvious reasons but still a good eye-candy software to have on your phone ): http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?fb79eppsoxfki3d
ICS Browser - For-Real (Install as a regular .apk file BUT IT DOES REPLACE your default HTC Sense Browser so I recommend you make a backup of it. Though as far as I've noticed, it's faster, better and smoother in many ways.): http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?2a4k523jvufjkw7
ICS Contacts Application (Flash via recovery, would not replace your regular HTC dialer): http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?oyo19m5afnhef09
ICS Email Application (Not that much of use to me but still thought of sharing, Flash via recovery): http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?8s8cs5xf0imxjqx
ICS Calender Application (Flash via recovery, not sure if it replaces the regular calender or not): http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?dbzviddbbkgwb7m
I found Contacts and Email on a One S forum. Tried out on my Evo 3D and it worked perfect. Though I got disappointed by the Contacts app as it still uses the regular call screen by HTC Sense. Lets wait till a complete port shows up. Other than that, the app works flawless.
I'll update this thread soon as I love AOSP apps and I keep looking for them always. I have a few more in my phone that I'll transfer and upload by tonight.
Hit thanks if you like and after digging so much, I think I'm ready to take requests.

Both worked for me, just flash the statusbar and install the mms apk. I wish we were able to have the ICS statusbar but keep the leedroid drop down settings. Also, the mms doesnt work with the sense locksreen notifications. Other than that both look and work great!

Umm, I haven't tried that but you can always NANDROID and experiment new things. So do try and put down a feedback. And yes as it is the official ICS status bar, it must have support for 4G. Cant tell any more as I'm on GSM. Sorry..

I did not make this, all credit goes to the creator of Olympus trinity rom...
This is a 3d gallery apk, just like aosp version. I'm not sure if pics work but I tested videos and they work perfectly...
http://db.tt/4RrWz19z
Disregard, I think I had a faulty backup for those who read....
Confirmed. If you only want the Status bar and not the Settings to look like ICS AOSP, simply remove the Settings.apk.
I'm sure it'd work if you'd only want the Settings and not the status bar.
There are no FC's or anything like that. If you want battery percentage, you can just flash the battery mod for ICS.
This is bad ass thanks! Makes it look way better while still having sense
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Now if we could only get AOSP lockscreen, I'd be SOLD.
EDIT: Percentages did not show after I flashed the ICS battery mod.
Also, I renamed my mms.apk to mms1.apk, and copied the AOSP mms it into system/app as stated in 2nd post.
Except I never used Titanium, so no freezing. It did indeed completely replace my mms app. Works great.

Dialer app

Previously I was running Cyanogenmod with what I guess is original Google dialer.
Is there a way, how to install it, or aftermarket, which is as close to it as possible, without root?

Customize Dialer?
Is there a way (preferably without root) to modify/customize the "in call" screen on the Galaxy S5. I am not talking about the Dialer App itself but the screen that comes up once you place the call. I want to be able to move the "end call" button from the top right spot to the top middle spot to make it easier to reach with either hand.

I want to be able to move the "end call" button from the top right spot to the top middle spot to make it easier to reach with either hand.

You cant do it without root cause it needs to modify system apps.
If rooted it is possible. I themed mine like this which will be available in alliance roms next update

Hello,
I read this today somewhere and this is exactly what you meant. I get my S5 tomorrow so I have notbeen able to test it yet, but it should work on any kitkat device.

I got the Google dialer working on my S5... You need root and if you want to make any dialer fully 100% with out any use of the stock one, you need to do a lot more then just have the app in the priv-app folder. Once I've worked a few bugs out, I was going to either package it as a zip, or give it to a rom development or two to use as an add-mod to their rom(s).

Wondering if you can share the steps you followed to get GOOGLE DIALER working on the S5 ? I tried to install by putting in Piv Ap, changing permissions and rebooting - and no luck - it FC's when i try to launch it every time.
If you can share the steps you took to get it working - even if I have keep my original phone ap for taking calls and GOOGLE DIALER for making calls - that would still be cool -
If you think it is too complex and difficult, I understand - but if you can share what you did - that would be very cool -
thanks

Well.... So far:
The good
• App will open with no crashes or force closes
• Search will search your accounts for contacts and Google for people / businesses.
• You can place a call
The bad
• Samsung app is still used during a call.
• Samsung app is still used to receive a call.
• No contacts button
The Ugly
• Removing Samsung's in call app will still allow your calls to connect, but you get no GUI so you can't hang up.
• Removing Samsung's phone app (not being used anymore) will cause zero signal and two com.phone error popups on boot.
• Google Contacts FC when opening
Bonus: info on other Google/AOSP apps
The Google and AOSP SMS/MMS app can be used and fully replace the Samsung one. Why is this good news? Because those apps have the quick reply (popup when you get a message) Kind of like the iPhone but much better :victory: I have a few different themed versions and get some more and will do a post with the info (and credit where credit due) tomorrow.
The AOSP browser likes to FC
Other working apps: Calculator, Clock, Email (even exchange bypassed), File manager, torch, gallery, pretty much everything else besides phone and contacts... I'll add them to the same post as the messaging app tomorrow. (Will be flashable zips)
On good news... Once the CyanogenMod ROM is finished for S5, it will be MUCH easier for me to get the dialer and contacts working fully 100% on Samsung's touchwiz framework.... I had them working flawlessly on my S4 before I busted the LCD... Nothing beats touchwize framework with Google/AOSP apps and style

I dont usually use aosp apps but to let you know stock mms does have an option to enable pop up messages and includes a quick reply too.
For phone it does use both secteleservice (secphone) and incallui for the phone features. That is why deleting the teleservice resulted in no signal because that app basically does the phone signal and pre call functions while the incallui controls all incall functions. So you would need an app and probably libs to replace both.

And where would the setting be for the popup with quick reply?
If you're thinking the quick response snippets, that's not the same thing. And looking at the settings for the stock MMS app (see attached screenshots) there is no pop-up setting or anything close to what the aosp/Google MMS app has

Hi All,
Just a quick note to those that keep up with this thread, as you would have seen I haven't been very active of late.
Unfortunately, at this point in time I am too busy with "real life" to sink time into this project.
I am not abandoning this project, there are many things I have planned and am working on to extend and improve upon this theme. When time permits I will finish what I have started and release a new version.
In the meantime there are plenty of users that have used this theme for a while and can help you with any issues you may have.
If I haven't replied to your quote, mention or PM, I will endeavour to do so in the coming week.
Thanks.

Feast your eyes on All Backs Black for Note3 TW 4.4+ (Rooted) Odexed or Deodexed by the original creator @Kdio.
This is a tried and proven theme that has been implemented on both the S3 & S4. In saying that, this is not a port, this theme was made ground up by Kdio and myself for the Note3.
Some users install this theme for battery efficiency; I prefer to use it purely for aesthetics I find it more pleasing to the eye than the stock TouchWiz interface colours.
For those of you that prefer something simple and done right or would like a reported 20% more battery, this theme is probably for you.
Neither I nor the original creator of this theme are responsible for any damage you do to your device. Flash at your own risk.
A few words from the Man you should be grateful to if you decide to flash and use this theme.
Theme Creator Kdio said:
Objective:
As extensively researched by the community, the use of black backgrounds in OLED (AMOLED and Super AMOLED) devices may lead to a gain up to 20% more battery juice. As related information, you can find some maths here and this xda experiment.
If, as is mine, your main device concern is lifetime and not the looks, give this a try and share your experience. Mine has been fantastic!

Yeah, go for it.
@coldmethod Thank you for supporting us sprint users. About to flash this on free3 with the 4/27 international all backs black theme already installed I'll report back if there's any issues.
Edit. Got it flashed on fre3 2.14b and no issues. Can't comment on dialer, contacts, mms theming due to already having flashed modified versions of those files that were pre themed to make this theme invert them properly. Can't find the link right now but they were posted in the fre3 thread by @micmars. 2 thinks are still not themed though. The notification bar and the wifi calling toggle.
Neither bother me that much as I usually have wifi calling disabled and it's mostly gray when disabled and I can use Wanam to make the notification bar black.
Really loving this theme keep up the great work.

Hey GavinMazey,
I will fix the wifi calling toggle in the next update, as for the notification bar this is a per ROM mod, I didn't have it set out clearly enough in the OP (fixed now) but here it is.
Enhancements
* Semi-Transparent Notification/Status screen;
For the above enhancements please pull the below files from your device, upload to your favourite file sharing site then PM me the link.
system\framework\framework-res.apk
system\framework\twframework_res.apk
system\priv-app\SystemUI.apk
Please also include a link to the ROM.
If you do the above I will create a file specific to your ROM that will fix the notification bar.

Update
Hi All,
See the OP for an update.
This is untested as I'm flying blind, but it should be all good.
08/06/2014
- WiFi calling icon fixed
- Mms apk name corrected
- Removed themed XML's from email apk
- Call and S-Voice icons in dialer fixed
If there are any issues let me know asap.
@coldmethod new version is running great so far. I noticed that mms isn't being themed properly on newest update.
I will also upload the 3 files for the notification mods for fre3 in the next day or 2. He just posted that an update will be coming in that time frame so I'll give you the new files as soon as I get them. One question though does the theme need to be applied before I pull the files or can I just take them from the zip?

Yeah the MMS issue is bizarre considering nothing was changed on it except the name. I'm looking into it now.
The three files can be pulled from your device or the Zip, but from the Zip is easier.

Mate would you mind testing the new MMS app for me please. I will send a PM.
Also, post the voicemail icon and I'll have a look.

@coldmethod
I've been messing around and in the op of fre3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2671779 there is a inverted dialer, contacts, mms zip the apps aren't fully inverted b&w like yours. So I pulled the mms.apk from there and the mms.apk vrthemer folder from your International theme, unzipped the n900 theme and placed the files I'm their respective locations then zipped it back up and flashed. Here's the result.
edit...wrong image, fixed now
Also send me a pm if you'd like me to test your new mms fix. I have a fresh backup.
