I think I broke it - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'll try to make this brief and to the point. I just got my Thunderbolt a few days ago and it was already rooted. My original goal was to flash it myself and put it on PagePlus. (I posted in another thread, but no one answered) I ran CDMA Workshop and I noticed that my T-bolt wasn't showing up in the ports under device manager. I then attempted to unroot it but that failed badly. I ran through a bunch of articles online and I figured out how to install customs roms. I thought that would fix the issue.
So far I've tried 4 different roms and they've all installed fine. It's just the reboot that's the issue now. When it turns on it goes to the white HTC screen and then it hangs on a blank screen until it reboots again. It's stuck in a loop. So if anyone knows what's wrong, I'd seriously be very thank full.
Any help would be extremely appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.

I guess I didn't ask the question correctly. I dunno. I installed a few custom roms and and it gets stuck after the HTC screen. what can I do to fix it?

What recovery are you using?
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2

thank you for replying. I'm using 4EXT Recovery Touch. I make sure I wipe / format everything first everytime.

When you boot into the bootloader does it list your radio version?
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2

yes, it's Radio - 1.48.00.930w_3
Here is the complete list:
MMECHA XD SHIP S-ON
HBOOT - 1.05.0000
MICROP - /
Radio - 1.48.00.930w_3
eMMc - boot

Have you flashed either of the official ICS ota radios? I think you have the wrong baseband.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2

OK, so I went to this site and got the radio, renamed it, and then moved it over to the freshly formatted sd card. I ran bootloader, it's been at the HBOOT checking ... [PG05IMG.zip] screen for about 5 minutes now, I'm about to reboot and try again. I don't understaned the part about having s-off. I know it means security off, but I don't know how to turn it off.
http://www.androidmodmarket.com/ModMarket/Listings/XDA-L-2136273.html
edit: still hangs at the HBOOT checking ... [PG05IMG.zip] screen

Lol you're s on so you cant flash a radio. You need to run the revolutionary tool and get s off. Then flash the radio in the bootloader.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2

Is there another way to turn s-off? I can't get it to recognize my phone at all and the drivers are installed. I turn on the phone and then it goes go the htc logo and then to a blank screen. it hangs there for a few and then reboots into a loop. since s-on can't I just install a stock rom and be done with it?

Try flashing a GB ROM.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2

all the rom downloads I found are on Multiupload. Nothing I can use. do you have a link?

Yea I can't help you much there. I'm sure someone else might have a link. You could try infectedrom.com. I bet the link to eternity still works
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2

I think all I need it to get s-off. I found a rom that is compatible with the radio I have. Is there another way to turn s-off with a bootloader or through recovery?

before this phone becomes a victim of Hulk Smash, does anyone else have any ideas?

So are you able to connect with ADB from a computer? The All-in-One tool might be able reset to factory, so you can start over. It can also walk you through Revolutionary/S-Off.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41384498&postcount=519
Note on Windows 7 with the latest version of the tool I linked above, I had to use Koush's Universal ADB Driver instead of the HTC one -- it kept causing my computer to blue screen/reboot.
If you're still looking for a GB ROM as someone mentioned a few posts back, the ThunderShed ROM on rootzwiki is very good.

Did go airborne install OK and boot? If so you should try using the revolutionary tool to get s off now.

Oh, yeah. I'm way passed all the issues I had earlier. I'm back to rooted and running smoothly again. I installed airborne, but I really don't care too much for it. It seems real boring. I am considering going back to stock so I can use the legit ICS. All I have to do is just flash the update stock update file and I should be good to go right? I think it's on Android 2.??? and I'd rather have it on legit 4.???

Whatever you do don't take the update.... Just make sure you have ICS radios flashed before you flash the ICS ROMs.

Bricked???

I have loaded this radio then I booted into recovery and tried to install Das BAMF Sense 3.0 RC4.9 from zip and the download starts then about halfway though it goes back to the bootloader screen with the android guys skateboarding. It has fastboot highlighted with the only options being bootloader, reboot, reboot bootloader, and power down. I have tried to reboot, boot back into recovery and restore but it keeps going back to this screen...any idea's??

Well, if you can get into the bootloader you are not bricked. Go to Jcase's stock recovery thread and get the rooted stock PG5... to load in hboot. It will essentially get you back to rooted Froyo and then you can reflash the recovery and whatever rom you want.
Or I believe you can rename a ROM to PG5... and flash it in recovery as well, although I've never tried that method.

I've never heard of anyone flashing a rom through hboot by renaming it to pg05img or whatever it is. I wouldn't try that without evidence of out working

I had an issue kinda similar like this and ended up having to flash the RUU through the bootloader. It is the stock firmware 605.19, and I had to reroot. It's a pain I know but it works

I to had to this at one point and it does work. I would first try to flash cwm in fastboot though. Sometimes that works.

My friend's phone tried to pull an OTA while he had CWM recovery installed, and it started boot looping. Had to download the stock recovery, name is PG05IMG.zip in the root of the SDCard, and force the phone to boot to the bootloader and install it. Once it did, the phone started up, rebooted itself, and installed the OTA fine. Sounds like yours may be trying to do something similar?
If so rooted phones need caches cleared for the ota to work.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
From my understanding, Rooted can still take OTA, but you have to have stock recovery to do it (as I witnessed earlier). You will lose root, and will have to re-flash recovery to TWRP, CWMR, or whatever your normal choice is, and then re-apply the su.zip, but otherwise easy as pie.

Stock recovery PG05IMG.zip http://dl.dropbox.com/u/61129367/PG05IMG-Stock-Recovery.zip
Hello, first of all I would like to thank everyone who has posted in this thread to try and help out. I just started having a very similar problem- I'm rooted and running stock, but apparently my phone accepted an OTA and I'm stuck in a bootloop as well.
I got into CWM recovery and downloaded the stock recovery PG05IMG.zip, but it won't install. It just aborts every time I try to install it. I'm a noob at this stuff and not very good at dealing with these sorts of things and I've been having a panic attack for the past hour, so if anyone could help me as soon as possible I would really appreciate it.
I'm really scared of making things worse than they already are. I just want a working phone.

pull battery, wait a minute, turn on phone
when in bootloader screen,
volume down, select reboot
back to white screen, select recovery ( i had to do this twice)
hold volume up and power when black screen appears
choose the bottom option (wipe cache i believe)
choose reboot
phone should be good aftter this
( idont own a thunderbolt, but i had to fix this for a nother phone, called tech support and this worked)
hope this helps - hopefully saves someone from ruu'ing and wiping their phone

The zip won't work in CWM because it's not designed for use with CWM. It's designed for use in Fastboot. Should be on the root of your sd card. From off, if I'm correct (like this with other HTC devices), hold volume down and power to boot into fastboot. This will allow it to flash the stock recovery.

Need help from those who have successfully installed cm9 on boot manager

K I'm using boot manager to install a cm9 Rom and it keeps failing at creating boot.img. I don't know what I'm doing wrong since I've herd of others installing cm9 roms sucessfully using boot manager. Maybe it's something in my settings? Tried making a thread at init2winit forums but have not gotten any response over there. Anyone here willing to help me out? I would greatly appreciate it.

Remember to disable logging in Superuser. That also causes some major issues. Just open superuser hit settings icon, and where it says logging set it to off. You should have much better luck that way

The Rezound is supported by bootmanager.
I've never been able to get boot manager to work correctly since I've started using it back on my dinc2. Had issues installing some roms on that phone too. Which is why I think my problem may be the settings I am using. Is there specific settings I need to use for the rezound?
EDIT: After I changed the settings SU I tried again at work and it froze still and even rebooted during the install.

Doesnt look like anyone has asked you this, but are you S-Off?? You need to be S-off for this to work. Also make sure when installing you wipe system/data/cache. You should be able to use the ext.4/2 either one will work. I use the ext.4 since it installs faster....alot faster.

[Q] ROM Flashing woes/USB fails

Hiya!
Got my hands on HOX+ yesterday and after giving Sense a try I decided I still hate it... Not to mention all the bloatware. So I went ahead and downloaded the all-in-one toolkit and Llior's CM10.1 with blade's kernel.
Now, I did give FAQ and instructions a look, everything seemed clear, especially since I've been nuking/flashing my Desire almost monthly for god knows how long.
Everything went as expected, got drivers, got token, unlocked, flashed CWM from the toolkit, proceeded with a full wipe/format to be sure no old stuff is laying around somewhere. And this is where I understood something is wrong. When I tried to sideload the ROM via the toolkit, it yelled at me that no device is detected. I tried unplugging/plugging the USB to no avail...
Tried searching around forums and while I did find some info, nothing seems to solve my problem.
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Suddenly feeling noob again,
v1ks_
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk 2
It is a known issue that sideload can take up to 5 mins to work when in recovery. You could also flash back to stock with the proper RUU and when you unlock the bootloader boot the phone and after the initial setup copy the rom to the storage. After you flash recovery.img and boot.img and boot into recovery you will see that the rom is on the memory now. GL&HF
Thanks!
So am I understanding this correctly that the USB problems (where it fails to detect load USB master while in bootloader will be solved if I flash a RUU boot.img so I can actually get adb to work, so I can get that stock ROM unto the phone?
Also, about the sideload and it taking up to five minutes. I don't even get to sideloading, the toolkit just curses it has no device, because of USB not working properly...
Cheers and thanks!
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk 2
Not positive, but it sounds like your drivers aren't installed. Did you install the htc syncmanager on your pc? and the second problem I see is that I believe the pizza kernel is the only one currently working for Lloir's cm10

Hiya!
Well, I'm still not entirely what I'm messed up, but going back to stock obviously fixed the problem. So thanks for that...
As far as Lloirs CM goes, the required kernel, at least as per his post, is the blade one, which I did flash. Got stuck on first boot, which was taking way longer than it should... IMHO (well over 20mins, so I just returned to stock for now).
Thanks for the help. Now I have another issue to try and solve... My Debian box doesn't really like my hox+, file transfer are plain weird...

I had to reset mine to stock, relock it and return it on warranty, apparently there is a known issue with the sim card slot or tray or something. On my third now, debating whether to unlock and try again. No matter what I flashed on it, RUU, stock roms, anything, I couldn't get it back working right. Always had the roaming. New sim card didn't work either.
So your gonna have to do some work to get it back to stock and proper relocked, and then request a new phone from verizon.

Ruu back to stock, I had the same issue and had to do this to get it working again. You do NOT need to go back to s-on to run the ruu, but you do need to be running the stock hboot, so if you are on eng hboot make sure you flash back. .torrented has links in his signature for the ruu and the hboot

How exactly is this an issue? Seems more like a cosmetic thing. Plus, your carrier could be renting towers from another carrier causing the phone to think it is roaming while it actually is not.

I don't think this has anything to do with renting towers. The same thing happened to me while I was flashing the GPE rom for the DNA. I spent two days trying to revert back to s-on and stock out of the box. Finally figured out how to do it. Next I took the ota and the triangle disappeared and showed 4G LTE.
It means your are stuck in roaming. You'll have to adb install stock hboot. Run the RUU. Let it boot. Once that's installed, you'll have to go into hboot and do a factory reset. After that, get the two OTA's. Then install custom recovery and your back in business. I've done it three times that I remember, maybe more, with success. If the first time factory reset don't work, so it again. Promise it will work. You don't have to lock or relock...

I have the 'triangle' problem on a moonshine s-off DNA, but ADB doesn't recognize the phone, I only get "list of devices attached" and blank. It will connect in fastboot, but I've tried 3 computers, multiple usb ports, installing and updating drivers, etc. The device shows up in windows attached by usb and I can drag and drop files- any ideas? I am NOT a programmer by the way, so have been trying to rely on step by steps. Is there a way to fix it without adb? I guess even if I have to go back to box stock that will be better than no phone!
Also, the other things I've read do say you have to lock the bootloader in order to flash the stock hboot and run the RUU.
Thanks in advance-

Planedoc, thanks for that, nogo however...when I tried to manually install those I got a Windows (7) error message saying "The folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with Windows for x64 based systems."
I did try to install Koush's universal drivers as well via the exe he provided, and it still didn't recognize the phone in ADB, and then every time I plug the phone in it tries to install it's own drivers again, currently the DNA is showing up in device manager with device name: HTC6435LVW, Device type ortable devices, Location: Port_#0004.Hub_#0005, and driver files \Windows\system32\DRIVERS\WinUSB.sys and \Windows\system32\DRIVERS\WUDFRd.sys
Maybe I'll try my wifes macbook tonight and see if it shows up there.
