WiFi Tether settings - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Now that WiFi Tether supports S4 users, I was wondering if people would like to share their settings so we can get this thing dialed!
I'll report in if I find a good combo.

Updated:
It appears that default settings work fine with or without WiFi encryption work.
However, it appears that the CrossBreeder installable zip is conflicting with it whereas it doesn't conflict with built-in hotspot.
It appears that CrossBreeder also had issues with the Note 2 WiFi Tether.
Will investigate.

Not here either, along with the 50 other setting combos I tried before giving up and waiting of official help..

the only rom that i've tried that it works perfectly in is synergy. wifi encryption and changing ssid both work, you just need to reboot each time after changing each setting. i couldn't get it to work in hyper. one guys stated that native tethering doesn't work in hyper so it could be that that hack conflicts with the wifi tether app.

I have default settings work sometimes on beans, but it will cut out periodically from the net even though the Wifi connection stays up. It is strange.

Any testers? I can't seem to get it working properly.

If I can only get help with getting Open Garden to work or perhaps reconfigure the adhoc or wifi settings, I will be so glad. I am sort of kind of used to the gps issue and working from all the posts and things I can search for but the Open garden is critical cause I have a galaxy tab 10.1 and rely heavily on the ability to tether my phone to the tablet. It did work on CM 7 but this ROM Is NICE and I would just love to have this work on ICS Passion, please help , much appreciated

If you are looking for a 3rd party wifi tethering solution that requires root access to run, you can give Barnacle a try Here

I have barnacle and Open Garden and Wifi tether. I was able to only get wifi tether working versus the other two because the other two operate in adhoc mode and they (the other two) do not have the ability for an end user to change the phone profile. Even though I am using a Vibrant, I had to change the profile in "Wifi tether" to Samsung Nexus and the problems went away
Thanks for you input

I definitely want to thank your first and foremost whether this works or not. I thank you for your time. Secondly, 20gb a month? heheh I doubt ive ever hit that mark. This is my work phone specifically used for email and data and very little calls, I primarily use my personal phone samsung galaxy s2 for calls and text... but last I checked on mytmobile the most ive used in 4 years is 1.7gb lol and thats heavy for me hahaha. ty ty again.
I know I don't have a thunderbolt but the same issue appears on the droid incredible 2. I found a fix and posted it here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583816
For some strange reason the cm team left out the two modules that activate WiFi and that's why you get that error.

What version of wireless tether are you using? The fix I posted was for v2.0.7. I have never had any kicking getting the beta builds to work.
Update: I just realized that I have dun disabled on my phone. Im not 100% sure but that may have something to do with why it works for me but not for you.

I think I might have to try infected eternity, I have not yet tried that. To my knowledge I believed I have flashed the latest radio (MR4).
Infected Eternity Rom installed, going to test the tethering now.
When i select the hotspot tethering and try to enable it just unchecks itself, I am running the latest MR4 radio and build 248 of the infected eternity rom. Guess im just not suppose to have this feature at all Thanks for everyone that has helped its truly appreciated.
I had some issues with different ROMs as well well getting wifi tether to work, but here is what I have which currently works:
a. Thundershed 1.5
b. IMO Lean Kernel 6.1 for AOSP
c. Latest Radio from 2.11.605.19
d. wireless tether 2.0.7
- Be sure to check the Routing Fix in Settings
When I start up Wifi Tether it brings up "Tethering or hotspot Active" in the status bar from the built-in hotspot, but that doesn't seem to affect wifi tether.
Also, when I first set it up I started it, let it setup the binaries and get superuser permission, then I stopped it, let it do whatever, then started it again.
I can connect without issue now. I hope this helps in some way.
I just got my thunderbolt today so maybe tomorrow I can look into it more for anyone interested and come up with a fix maybe. I haven't had a chance to get root but ill have time tomorrow.

[Q] Wireless Tethering issue (help please)

Issue: Connects but then No Internet access
(I've already read other relative threads searched)
- App is "Wireless Tether for R.. U.." (http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/)
- Has worked flawlessly for over a year until what seems like a few days ago. (no new apps added, etc.) - I am good about data usage.
- But now the Wi-fi tether starts, laptop devices connects to it fine, but then after 5 seconds laptops indicate "No Internet" (as no data gets to the connected device(s). Data on phone is fine though, just not through the wireless tether.
- Also deleted, and downloaded 3.1-beta14 apk just to make sure a recent app upgrade may have lost something... same result though.
Version is 3.1-beta2 (latest for Tbolt)
No ROM change ever made from Standard Thunderbolt/Veriz
Key Settings:
Device profile set to Thunderbolt
Setup Method = Auto (changing to Adhoc does not affect result)
New option "WiFi-driver reload" is checked (unchecking does not affect result)
"HTC routing-fix" activated (unchecking does not affect result)
Numerous restarts, reconnect attempts with different settings, etc. - nothing works.
Please help, it no longer works.
Anyone else recently experiencing this?
Have you tried an older version just to see if it helps?
Did you change a kernal or radios? Just trying to cover all the bases..
I could never get wireless teather 3.x to work at all. use the older 2.x versions
I use 3.1 with no issues

Download the latest version from https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether
Select the NexusOne profile and activate wifi driver reload, mss clamping and routing fix.
The other options are up to you (security, ssid, acces control...) but it should work assuming you have an aosp rom. For sense i think it's the same except that you can actually choose the thunder as the device profile.
So if I use an aosp rom I need to select the Nexus one as the device profile

[Q] Help! Tethering Droid Incredible 4g w/Unlimited Data

Is it possible to tether a rooted droid incredible 4g running the stock HTC Sense image that STILL has the unlimited data plan (I got the phone just before they killed it last summer)? I have a stock droid incredible 4g (Android 4.0.4) that I simply unlocked the bootloader on and installed/flashed SuperSU from TWRP. I apologize if my terminology is off as I am new to this. I have installed both WiFi Tether and FoxFi and have had no success with either program. I may be configuring something incorrectly or it may not be possible given I'm still on the unlimited data plan. I assumed that rooting my device would somehow allow Wifi Tether to bypass whatever verizon blocks on the unlimited data plans to prevent tethering. I have googled everything I can with regard to this issue and have attempted all the recommended fixes with FoxFi (rename the SSID, reboot the phone, disabled WiFi, etc...). I do not know how to configure Wifi Tether (tried the defaults and a few combinations I found on google) and have found very little to assist further with it. There are multiple device-profiles and setup-methods to choose from in addition to a bunch of other options, and am hoping someone know specifically what I can do or have a combination that works. Any help would be greatly appreciated .
Simplified Questions:
(1) Is it possible to teather on a droid inc 4g with unlimited data?
***These Questions assume '1' above is true***
(2) Can this work in FoxFi, if so, how do I configure it?
(3) Can this work in Wifi Tether, if so, how do I configure it?
(3a) In Wifi Tether, I would need it set up to do a 'hotspot' not an ad-hoc network connection, no clue how to do this...
(3b) In Wifi Tether, which device-profile and setup-method should be used?
(3c) There are a number of options in WiFi Teather, which ones should be selected?
Solved
I continued to search and try settings and figured out what worked:
(1) Phone must be rooted
(2) Download WiFi Teather
(3) In Settings -> Choose HTC Rezound (LTE/CDMA/GSM) as the 'Device-Profile'
(4) Leave the 'Setup-Method' as 'Auto', which is the default
(5) Optional: Use 'WiFi-Encryption' if you'd like
(6) Set the SSID
(7) Check the box for 'Wifi-driver reload'
(8) Ensure 'MSS clamping' is checked (was by default for me)
(9) Ensure 'Routing fix' is checked (was by default for me)
(10) Start Tethering
The above should work...
Simple, if your on a sense based ROM just use open garden https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=og.android.tether
And in settings select either generic ICS or rezound I forget its been a while but I know it works flawlessly
On cm which I am just use the built in tethering very simple
I use WiFi Tether (currently using 3.2-beta2). Works great. Fast, no drops, etc.
While I am running ViperLTE, I see no reason why it won't work with rooted stock.
In fact... I'm using it right now

I have found that signal strength/area is everything when it comes to speeds - tethering or otherwise. At work, I have intermittent 4G and my tethering speeds are so-so. I have to carefully put my phone in the right spot to get 4G, and that spot varies depending on the weather...
However, at home my signal and 4G are rock solid. 4G speeds, including tethering, are faster than my WiFi connection.

lollipop wifi tether help

Flashed 5.0.1. Thanks stooges! Everything seems great but i cant get my tether to work. Does anyone have tether working on 5.0.1? If so what is settings? Thanks.
That maybe a bug I have it to and I can't get anything but here is a app that will give you free and unlimited tethering: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.snclab.wifitetherrouter&hl=en
Trust me when I say the price is worth it just do the settings he recommends:
For LG G3 using this config
Interface wlan0
Method 2
Channel 1
Encryption wpa2-psk
"No Firmware Reload" <- UNCHECKED
if not work
Interface wlan0
Method 3 - HostApd

apn method
Still no tether for me. I understand the apn method works for native hotspot although i cant confirm or get it working myself. This is a lollipop deal breaker for me as this is my only internet access. I have been rumming barepop but think im going to flash clean stock and try apn method 1 more time. If no luck i going back to zv6.
The hotspot hack works. Make sure you're saving the apn when you do it. And do it to both.
I can't get WiFi tether router to work either.
If you do the apn thing go to my unlock post and look in the apn setting I have a hack that may work.

Does the apn hack work on 3g? This is the only reason i can come up with for why i cant get it to work. Im on lte/cdma. Follow instructions exactly. When i turn on hotspot, 3g turns off then hotspot turns off. Then error pops up saying something network error then popul about info for hotspot subscription. Ive gone to youtube to watch method. Its easy idk what im missing.

I don't think that's an issue. But maybe.
I'm on the fringe of LTE so my signal bounces back and forth between LTE and 3G.
Theres a link in the top of the OP of the Hotspot hack I made. It's in the International thread on the same thing apparently. You might get some more help from there.

I don't either. I've done everything in the video exactly. Someone a few posts up said "make sure you do it to both". What does both mean? They only add ",dun" to one thing in the video.

If you don't have the options in MORE go to your Mobil data area make sure you switch to global and see if they show up then. There was a discussion about why some people care missing those options in the settings on another thread just can't remember now where, it might have been in the ZV8 stock rom thread.

When they mean both they're talking about; in shortcut master add ,dun to both internet and cinet.spcs under APN type

I reinstalled the ROM and wiped everything just like that post said, and still didn't see any tether options. It wasn't until I did the ##RTN# on my dailer using my MSL number that it finally worked. So thank you for pointing me to that post.
Any progress on getting this to work? I have the sprint G3 rooted with the original rom but still having the data teathering error. I tried doing the shortcuts trick but it didnt work with the lite version.
Nevermind I got mine to work now. Took a couple reboots but the shortcuts method worked.
