[Q] [Discussion] Why cant we port android on samsung wave y ?? - Android Development on Bada

Give me one good point on why cant we port android on wave y?? Samsung stopped developing bada on wave phone..!! Most of the phones got there android ports except wave y and some others. We want Android port on our wave y..!! To all developers from wave y users.

It's simple, there is no data on how much ram or that has graphics chip and processor is much worse than the s8500, internal memory is less than that required by android, and probably would not be able to make it run.

In Wave 1 and 2 both cases it was not mentioned about any Ram or GPU but later it was found that it has 512 mb ram btw Android is an open Source OS so we could use it in any phone and moreover phones worst than wave y are running Android smoothly. So Y cant we?? We just need some experienced badaroid devolopers..!!

There were plenty of problems with the porting of android 2.x on wave 1 and 2. However only wave 1, 2 & 3 will be supported by Android Wave Community (at the moment, maybe in the future, but let finish the port of these phones)

As you can see... for S8500 and S8530 not enough Developer...
Same problem since months/years...
Maybe this time we have waterproblem in Europe... :crying:
So this could 1 reason why nobody continue at the moment.
About the other small bada devices... PLEASE read about Broadcom for instance here:

Broadcom users should combine their brain... work together.
I mean NOT someone should do the whole work for you...
Because NOT enough time.
Please understand... Broadcom bada devices have LESS memory, less CPU and smaller Resolution for Display...
And you have to start COMPLETE from scratch...
Maybe Bootloader are not secured and solution like for S8000 Jet is possible.
Write own Bootloader...
I have no idea about Broadcom, sorry. NO interest...
Little example...
Since 2011 I have bought
2 x S8500 for over 400 Euro...
For tests I have damaged devices with broken glasses...
1 x S8500 broken Display
1 x S8530 broken Display + damaged Touch
1 x S8530 nearly 100 % working, accept Camera dead...
1 x S8530 with dead cam...
1 x S8600 with F%§ problem. End key self pressing... so Touch is damaged...
On S8600 this is very annoying problem, because every App autoclose...
I have bought RIFF JTAG...
In over 2 years I have payed MORE then 1000 Euro for testdevices + equipment for non profit... only for fun.
I have spent many time for reseach... Internet study via Google... etc...
2 years +
What is Broadcom user willing to do to reach their goal?
Why should R. or any other Dev now buy Broadcom "testdevices" for investigation? Spend again hundrets of hours... for maybe 10 or 11 Broadcom user...
Sorry.
Please accept, our known Android porting Devs have enough own problems or other... so no time for Broadcom...
See how many successfully Broadcom Porting projects exists...

Because the S8500 and S8530 are almost same as the galaxy s1, and that's making porting easier.
You will have to search for an equal android device with the same hardware specs, and ofcourse developers who want to do it.

Porting OS on Omnia hd

hi i've got a samsung omnia hd i8910... i think that symbian sucks and i've seen that there are a lot of porting for other mobile phone. so i ask you: can you create a way to install wp7 or android on i8910? the hardware of this phone is not bad and now there is also the overclock made by HyperX (up to 900MHz) .. so, someone can try to find a way to upgrade this phone to a really OS ? sorry for my bad english.
please help us, we are a lot with this problem!
up... please help us!
up please... help
hello everybody!
i am an omnia hd's owner too!
i think this smartphone is superb!the only limit is the symbian 5th O.S. infact i'd like to know why samsung team put this instead of android and didn't released any important update.
if android porting isn't possible, anyway i hope symbian 3^.
thanks for any help in advance!
i've knew that in past the problem was the boot loader. but i've read also that it was unlocked.
so where is the problem now?
the cpu is the OMAP3430 so i think that there is no problem to a android porting because the motorola droid has it too...
or maybe a porting of the maemo os, infact n900 has a OMAP3430.
help us... we want that our phone rise again, because we paid it a lot not so time ago.. and it has a very good hardware...
AFAIK No one else on this forum has one and no one is going to buy one to dev for you unless you donate.
i will donate if you could find codec dark edition room for me
I have this now. Great phone. I still use it mostly for the speakers.
I would love to see Symbian 3 Belle on. It's near impossible I guess. I wish Samsung had not ditched dual speakers.
Samsung really bombed this phone. A little more wide spread release and support with update to later versions of Symbian and it would have been soooo much better.

[Q] wp7?

are we ever going to have wp7 on our tg01 ? just because we dont have the 3 buttons and the capacitive screen on our tg01 does that mean we cant have wp7? i mean we still have a powerful 1ghz snapdragon cpu and a decent ram. surely there is a way around this little problem.

android development stopped way back in november-december. i doubt it would ever continue progress. nowadays, the hd2 devs have moved on, so i doubt you would see them coming back to develop for older devices.
Cotulla is the best dev around, who wasthe main hd2 porter for wp7 and android. and he also ported android for the hd mini.
anyway, even if android is finished, there will still be many problems, like poor battery life due to the kernel not built for the specific device etc. the hd2 even with amdroid/wp7 isnt perfect. it sucks up battery twice as fast as wm. so imagine that on tg01's....

I would trade it for SII but for S? No way!!
i change my s8500 for galaxy s.
For ACE?
No. It has got Qualcomm MSM7227 as AP, what almost excludes ability to port Bada in there, at least for me.
It's pretty "easy" (by this I mean less than 100 hours of work) achievable for SGS series.
Wave M?
I think the hardware of the Ace is verry similar to the new Wave M.. Just try it to port when the Wave M has been released.. The Wave M will be the middle class of the Waves, like the Ace of the Galaxy-series. (like the differences between s8500 and i9000)
Thats why I traded my old Wave for a LG Optimus Black. Maybe it has a bit powerless hardware, but it runs a full stable Android and it works like a charm.
So goodbye Bada, I moved into Android.

I moved because I'll move all my entire devices to Android if its possible. After having an Iphone 2G, a few Symbian's Nokia and a LG KS20 with Windows Mobile, I can't doubt it: Android is the best phone for a technogeek like me

Android isnt a phone its an OS very important for people that dont know that and read this.
We like here to use the right declarations of such things, this would either confuse users that dont know it right.
Wont you need the BADA source code?
The reason why android can be ported (if not completely because there are chip driver issues like modems not working etc) is because its open source...
To port BADA to any device wont you need the source code to work with?
Samsung is holding bada's source code and i dont think they will open source it at all even if it uses some opensource code.
They did pay for the right to use opensource code into a proprietory system.

WOW like i said befor bada os it's an awsome os and bada 2.0 even more awsome then all oses togeter only thing that it is missing is devlepers and apps and APPS
and then the all world will be using bada os and not symbain (yack!!!!!!!!!) or Ios(realy stupid OS and to complacte togeter that it's making it usless) or Android (i like android to but there isn't something special in it)
or windows phone 7 (what the F#$# is that why we need it )
so i thanking you for add support to show samsung that it had to foucse on bada os from the start and not go to other oses
bada os ruls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
in the future will be bada os for tablets and PC because it actuly have a linux core
I think he is the only one man in the world, who wants badaOS on his ace So don't make big conclusions.
so now it is over, this is more than only offtopic, leave the guy when he is unhappy with android you all should imagine that he can decide which os he will, and why you all always so putting him down.
i cannot get you all, its near a kindergarden what you make here, ok? we shuld now let this thing behind, otherwize i will make here directly an anti android campagne to show the users what is bad about to use it.
when all are fair i will also stay fair, when this thing goes on wrong direction than we all only can be opponents.
i am trying now to finish this childisch diskussion.

The problem its not porting but the complexe off boot and 2 level Os or 3 maybe make's bada verry verry complexe to dissasemble and also to porting we realy need open source then works maybe 6month for realy works, verry verry complexe !!!
Bada like's Iphone Os !!!

now, let's talk about porting Windows Phone 7.5 to Galaxy Ace(not just eyecandy)

I would suggest too but if you read the OP he says he doesnt want any eyecandy WP7 and Jinav's is eyecandy :/
Not possible. Even if someone would manage to overcome all the driver problems because of the different hardware, there is one important difference: the screen resolution. The only resolution supported by WP7.5 is WVGA (800*480)- will change with WP8, but who would invest such an extreme amount of work and time for the Ace then - and the Ace just has HVGA (320*480).

Let me explain it to you very clearly.
Galaxy Ace has an 800MHz ARM11 MSM7225 processor which sucks so bad.
Lumia 610 has a 800MHz Cortex A8 MSM7230 processor which is quantum leaps better than the Ace.
Secondly, Galaxy Ace has a pathetic resolution of 320x480 while all WP75 phones currently has 480x800.
Thirdly, don't expect it to end up like HD2 because HD7 & HD2 has the exact same hardware that's why it was easier to port.
WP7 is closed source so it's nearly impossible to port WP7 unless there is a similar hardware to Ace running WP7.
So, I hope you understand the gravity of your request is simply impossible to achieve.
and the Lumia 610 is running Tango, not Mango.

Thanks again aleks!
Haven't come across any yet.
+1
This is really a great device. Amazing price-quality ratio. I just bought one as a second phone and I'm very happy with it.
Performance is comparable to Samsung Galaxy S+ but with a nice 4.3 screen.
And Alcatel has promised an ICS update so fingers crossed.
@ whigga: yeah, it's really a great device with such cheap price. it's a steal!
hopefully devs can look into this phone. it's something like LG Optimus X2 of some sort.
Available here now for $280
I really like the 4.3" over my 4.1" phones,
Strange they made no 850MHz 3G units for countries that have the stronger frequency like Australia, USA, Thailand, China etc... for those that dont know 850MHz can penetrate into buildings to allow better indoor reception.
Just like to bump this thread. Any update of development?
Heey guys!
I just bought this phone 2 days ago, after my Galaxy Gio died 1,5 week ago.
I'm very happy to hear there are more satisfied users of the OT-995 who want a custom rom and XDA thread
Let's hope a good developer will also get this beautifull device!
By the way: does someone know a good way to root the Alcatel OT-995?
@ markvann: that remains the question. I still got an unrooted OT-995. tried those rooting procs, nothing works atm.

Hello Petalotis!
I just looked, and it seems there is not 512mb ram. It's exactly the same as it is with Xperia Neo V I guess, because my telephone says there's something like 370 mb ram. Normally I'm a heavy device user (except for my last one, the Galaxy Gio), but I have to say this smartphone can handle all the apps I want. I'm really happy with it, and on Quadrant Standard benchmark it even scores better than Galaxy Nexus (and on Antutu they have around the same amount of points). So I hope you don't get fooled by the 'not-so-high' amount of ram, and that you can participate in searching for OT-995 root methodes and ROMs!
Sent from my ALCATEL One Touch 995 using XDA
I want to buy a new Android phone and this one catch my attention, i have a ZTE Blade and want to upgrade .
The launch of this phone in my country (Portugal) will be in 7 of May with the name of "Optimus Madrid" and the price maybe would be €229,90, i was searching here if anyone begun to developing custom roms to him, will be an asset.
+1 for development of this device
also I would ask the people who bought this device if they try to connect mouse or keyboard in mini usb gate ?
already seen a guide to do this in galaxy s (in this forum). Hub must accept external power because there isnt enough power in mini usb
is it possible that this works ? can you try to connect keyboard and mouse in hub or a usb flash
i would appreciate that
thank you very much
I also have the alcatel ot-995.
I''ve tried things like superonclick and z4root.
Is there any possible way to root my phone or do I just have to wait for a new rooting way.
Hello! I just bought is phone people , has as nice price!!!
And I hope someone considering spend some time to make the root possible!!

Just like to bump on this thread again.
To Devs: Hopefully someone out there who has the heart to develop a ROM for this nice phone would be love by all who bought this amazing price-to-performance phone.

This phone is perfectly capable of making 3g video calls. At least it works in Holland, where I live. Do realize that this functionality also depends on your network provider if they allow it.

Yeah, you're right! Software implementation is defenitely not as good as the hardware should allow it to be. Processor and ram are more than capable, but still there is lag where similar speced phones have none. Hopefully the promised ICS upgrade will fix this or otherwise hoping for some good 'ol custom rom development.
OT995 Potentials
I'm a freak of speed for low cost and the alcatel OT995 will definetly be
my next one!
Hopefully does developers see the potentials of this low budget device,
and make a masterpiece ready to challenge with high-end non-price-quality
phones!
I keep fingers crossed, once a project gets started, I buy one !
