Dead pixel? - HTC Rezound

I just noticed a dead pixel in the bottom right corner of my HTC Rezound. I've had it for over a year, and it just showed up, is that normal?
Is there any way to fix a dead pixel?

i have one when i got the phone lol. its not noticeable at all unless i go on the internet on my phone and look at full black image full screened
but you can get dead pixels from dropping your phone and something hits the screen, which can happen with monitors and tv's ect... dead pixels are permanent, only a screen replacement can fix this
have you dropped it recently? idk if the screen can just start dieing in random spots though lol

You may be able to unstick a pixel by rapidly cycling it on and off. I think there are some apps in the market that will do that. It doesn't always, or even usually work, but it's worth a shot.

hate to say this....but with the high dpi the rezound has, its probably more than one pixel if you can see it. I have used the dead pixel fixer app on the market and its nice when you need to set the screen all black or another solid color.

Dead Pixels...

So I work for Sprint, and I just got my replacement and come to find it has 2 dead pixels. I'm within my 30 days but what you guys think? keep replacing until I get one with clearly 0 dead pixels? anyone else get bothered by 1 dead pixel or what.... the first evo 3-d had 4 dead pixels.
yes, who the hell wants to have a screen with dead pixels? I certainly would not pay for that.. others have returned it.
I am going on my 4th evo but for hw related problems such as locking, not charging etc. if i got one that had a deal pixel.. it would go back to HTC/sprint.

+1 and you work for sprint. I work for a bottled water company. If I got a bad bottle or my cooler wasn't working correctly I'd want it replaced asap.

yeah me either....id like to see these dea pixels if u can post a PIC.....also i thought someone said that theres an app that can detect if u have dea pixels.....anyone know what its called?
I would not keep a phone with a dead pixel and i didn't, went through a few of them. to me it's a defect, what's the reason to not return a brand new device if it has a defect. but on the other hand that might sound like i am spoiled, the phone still works the same even if there is one dead pixel.
Yeah, to me, a dead pixel is a defect. I would not pay $200 for a brand new phone and settle for it to be in less than perfect condition. You can download "Dead Pixel Test" from the market. It just displays solid colored screens, which make it easier for you to spot a dead pixel.

yeah its in the Market called "Dead Pixel Test" it goes through all the colors to see if you have stuck or dead pixel's. I haven't see any yet and have had 2 E3D's.
I have a stuck pixel, on green. It's really only noticeable when using the camera. I'm going to exchange it since I can, otherwise it's something I can live with.
ive never had a phone with a dead pixel..or maybe i've never noticed it..hmmmm

Probably the latter.
My recommendation is if you do not see it, don't go looking for it. Odds are you will probably find 1 or 2 but if you do not know it is there, then who really cares.
Also, the pixel is not dead unless it stays black. What everyone is seeing is a stuck pixel and it is very common on these screens.
My first 3D had a stuck pixel. This one all pixels are good but there is a big-ass speck of dust under screen. I hate to do this, but I'm gonna have to go back and either have it cleaned or replaced. On another note...my 3G is kicking ass today with the stock EVRC Home and Roaming settings in my living room! An average of 5 tests 1090kbps D/L 410kbps U/L here in Tacoma, WA...not bad! Hope this lasts!!
So today I got my 3rd replacement and it actually has more dead pixels then the 2nd replacement... The 2nd one I think im going to keep since its 1 pixel on the screen and 2 on the bottom near the buttons... I don't want to keep having to do return kits and fighting for credits... its harder for us that work at sprint because we don;t get the exchanges in-store everything is online...
boy do you have that right... if you don't see a dead pixel don't go looking for one!
many years ago I bought a hans g monitor from newegg that was on super sale... so cheap it sold out fast...
so everyone was reporting anywhere from one or more dead or stuck pixels. the people with the stuck pixels were for the most post able to fix them by gently massaging them. a few had the pixels stay stuck. others had dead pixels.
I personally have a few in a horizontal line. they are stuck in a dark grey which could have really been much worse.
but after so many years, the monitor with stuck pixels is still worth they price I paid. sure, we paid good money for our phones, and I do expect a product that is one hundred percent, but if the pixel is out if the way or isn't easily noticed, why not keep it?
then again, our vision is concentrated in a much smaller area so it might be really bad. but either way, while curious I won't be checking for damaged pixels! cause that might just drive me insane because you can't un-see what you have seen lol

3 dead pixels here I think, but you only see em if you staring at a lit screen with nothing on it... And if you doing that then you just tryna find a complaint
Bussin Caps n 3D
I am still up in the fence about returning my phone because of one tiny stuck pixel.
I think the question is, how many EVO's would I need to go through to get one without. I am guessing a lot more people have stuck pixels that just don't know about because they haven't found them yet.
I think the odds of getting a perfect screen are probably far less then getting one with stuck pixels.
As the 30 days grows closer this decison is becoming harder and harder and I keep talking myself out of the return thinking I might get something worse but I am just not happy with non-perfection!

Maybe you exchange the one you have now and if it has problems you should return it and wait for the next hardware version. Maybe it will have less problems.

So I bit the bullet and went for the exchange.
I am happy to say that the new device has no dead pixels! What is does have a the slightly crooked screen but I would have never even known what that was if not reading it on here so I can live with that over dead pixels.
Also, my screens colors seem so much better on this one. Maybe the misaligned screens are the ones with the whiter whites because it definitely looks better?
One thing I found weird was the lock screen was set on the weather one. My first one was not...It was definitely an un-opened box and I didn't even think about till hours after when I was like, um I didn't change my locks screen and it had the weather one as default.
Anyone, much happier with this one....

I will tell you but in all honesty if you haven't found one, I wouldn't go looking for it.
In the market if you search pixel, there is something called dead pixel test or something like that. It cycles through different colors. The most popular culprits will usually show on the black screen.
Go into a dark room and turn the brightness up. What you usually will see are bright white spots on the black screen which would be the stuck pixels.
Only the strong hearted and non OCD people should do this....Although any OCD person probably won't be able to control the urge to search for it now.

Got my transformer, two small bright spots on the screen

Two small pinpoints of white light on the screen. Are these dead pixels? Stuck Pixels?
I'm guessing that either way I should exchange it. So, apparently Asus is going to be having quality issues?

let it load
select "fix my screen"
if it doesnt go away after it runs... if it doesnt auto close after a minute, just close it
its a dead pixel
return son!
No dice. Thanks anyway.
Guess this bad boy is going back...
I got a replacement Prime yesterday and thought everything was perfect until I opened my web browser to google, which is pretty much all white and noticed a bright spot like you are describing in the title. Mine are definitely NOT stuck/dead pixels. I know because I returned my first one in part because of stuck pixels. It's almost like these pixel(s) allow slightly more light through than the adjacent pixels. Sort of like light bleed but not at the edge of the screen. I can only see it on white or very, very light backgrounds. It disappears entirely on darker colors.
It is unfortunate but I will not replace this again for a third time. It goes away unless my Prime is charging or docked (which I assume is because it is similar to the tablet being plugged in) and can only be seen on an all white background. I will never use my tablet plugged in, I charge it at night when I sleep, and the limited amount I have it docked is not an issue since it only shows up on an all white background and seems less noticeable than a dead/stuck pixel. Honestly, a smudged screen is more noticeable/annoying. Since I don't use my dock much it will probably end up having a dead battery anyway which means I really wouldn't see it much, unless the battery in the dock is required for it to function while attached, I'm not sure but will find out. Thinking about it I guess it probably does need to be charged for the ports and everything to work unless it leaches off the tablet. Who knows...I'll test it at some point.
It is kind of strange though and I really dislike trying to justify a flaw to keep a $500 device but whatever. IPS screens have some nice benefits but they seem to have a lot of flaws too like bright spots, pretty bad light bleed and more stuck pixels than I am used too. I went back and forth in my OCD head so many times about how many times I would exchange or return this device before I get one that is pristine but if I return it there is nothing else that interests me.
Asus had quality issues with their past Transformer and to think the 1080p tablet will be any different is ignorant.
Anyway, end blog. Since that's what XDA is now

If it's only 2 pixels and they are not directly adjacent, it's unlikely that they will take it back as that is deemed an acceptable tolerance for dead/stuck pixels. I think you need to have 5 or more total or 2 directly adjacent.
Pretty much all manufacturers use this guideline I believe. I hope I am wrong and you do get to exchange it.

I had one dead pixel on my Xoom and Best Buy replaced it without even turning it on to verify
I had two stuck pixels when I first got my Prime. Running pixel fixer apps didn't fix the problem. However, both of them have "unstuck" themselves after a few days of use. If you have some time before you have to return it, you may want to wait a little.
EDIT: Check that. I just ran a dead pixel test and only one of the two unstuck itself. The other one is so unnoticeable to me that I haven't seen it.

Same issue here, bottom right of the screen, small patch of white light in the browser window about an inch from the corner..
Not sure whether to return, the rest of the tablet is awesome!!
I just got another one and about 7 dead pixels the kind you can see on
Black screens and also slightly a bit of light bleed where the headphone jack is

One Dead Pixel - One Poxy Dead Green Pixel

Pretty much as the title says to be honest, have had the phone 14 days but three are being gits about the exchanging it for no particular reason.
I have tried downloading and installing any and every free pixel fixer from the Market and left them running any where from 2-30 mins.
Like I say its one green pixel right in the middle of the top third of the screen.
Any suggestions please or home made remedies, I have been advised about running a magnet over it quickly but not really keen n doing that to be honest.
Thanks in advance.
Well most dead pixel fixers should run for hours and not minutes... Also, there's the pressure technique which consists of pressing down on the dead pixel. Only catch is you can't really do that with the SGS2 because of the glass. So your best bet is return the phone for warranty replacement (If possible)
U said it is a dead pixel and u want to cure it using old tech used for LCD screens.
Our GS2 has AMOLED screen which is different from LCD.
LCD pixels physically twist to let block or allow light through them which is why they get stuck. Here all those apps or home remedies may work.
For an AMOLED pixel to get "stuck", it would have to burn out meaning it would be permanently black, or if the controller had a short that for some reason continually told a particular pixel to stay a particular color.
To make long story short-claim factory warranty ASAP.

Dead Pixels

Has anyone found dead pixels on their Z2 got mine Saturday and already had it replaced once for this issue and the replacement has the same problem
Cant find any dead pixels on mine. Come to think of it i always got lucky with stuff like that. Not a single dead pixel on any device i ever had.
2, one really noticeable, one is faded

Sony warranty states that 2 dead pixels are acceptable. Fortunately, my Z2 has none.
I've sent mine back for a replacement with one dead pixel and overheating issue. Bought it last Friday, already gone
I found one dead pixel on mine, but I'm ignoring it for now.
OK. I have one stuck green pixel on the top right. Is this a common thing with xperias? Does anything actually work to fix them? My phone is ULB so I can't get it replaced.

Try display tester pro. No guarantee but worth the try
I had a Z replaced at least a dozen times due to dead pixels, eventually got a Z1 which had none but now it looks like Sony is plagued by them back with the z2
I've tried a few apps to fix it. Its only barely visible when on full brightness with a black background when its close to my eyes. No biggie.

Every phone manufacturer suffers from these problems not just sony, I remember it was a common problem with the nexus 5 when it got released, if it's only 1 dead pixel then it should be much of a problem, besides I have heard you need at least 3 dead pixels to get a replacement
do you guys check for dead pixels with a magnifier? As now with these high dpi screens it's pretty hard to identify "one" dead pixel to me... maybe mine has but i don't think i can notice it without a magnifier lol
I only noticed it on the black screen in the dark. It doesn't bother me, it's only one pixel.

Same for me. Only visible on full brightness with black. Its never like that unless I check.

[Q] Prelude to dead pixel formation?

Hi, i've had my samsung s3 for about 20 months now nearly 2 years and so far so good.
however i have been reading that AMOLED screens eventually have dead pixels and ideally if you were to get them it's before the 2 year warranty window rather than just after.
My question is before you started to get the dead pixels and black spots on the screen did you find that it would go away for a bit then come back?
just now when i backed out of an app i noticed there was a big black mark dot on the screen.. larger than one pixel but maybe like 4-5 in a circle and also to the side of it a slightly discoloured pixels of red etc.. when i swiped through the windows where my apps were it all went away. was this just a glitch from what was showing on the app i was using (with black screen and red colours) or dead pixel potentially forming?
I have no idea what dead pixels look like when they're dying.. though i do know it's all black when they're dead.
is this most likely a glitch or have you guys who have had dead pixels before noticed something similar just before they died?
I've a Droid RAZR for 3+ years now. No issues with the display till now.
I think not all displays die like that..
