How is your battery!? Awesome! - Samsung Galaxy Mega

Im starting to see the power in this phablet. Dual core handles good tasks and the memory might not be alot but helps. Havibg that plus battery management at its best. We look at having power juice probably for a few days.

Well, to be honest you guys seem to spend quite some time in Flight mode
But all I ask is for this phone to do better than the useless N4 in the battery department!

The battery is the monster better than s4 and note2

Here's my regular battery usage and I usually play games:

Better than my old n7000

Get atleast 5 hour screen (Mostly browser and email) on time with one and a half hour calling.
6 emails always on sync. Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn sync every hour.
Getting more than double in comparison to Note (N7000)
Sent from my GT-I9152 using xda app-developers app

Get 5+hrs plus screen time with 1.5 days of medium use . 3g always on . Mostly facebook , browsing, riptide gp2 , whatsapp
Get 6+hrs screen time with same above routine on 2g (GSM) for over 48hrs .
Cant ask more from the battery .

I Just got this phone 3 days ago and i can barely make 3 hours of screen time, and the brightness is low i just turn on wifi and in the battery usage it show that the screen use 80% of the battery what the hell how you do to have 5 hours + of screen time

yea i wan to know that too.. 5 hours of screen time is just too awesome

I get around 5 hours screen on after a whole day, too. My impression after the first week owning the phone was "the battery is so awesome!!!"
If I stay at home and use wifi all the time, I can get up to 6.5 hours screen on. I notice that my phone drains the battery faster if I repeatedly check the clock or text messages. I guess turning the display on and off too many times affects the battery quite a bit.
But anyway, it's not that awesome when you compare to the Note 3. That thing gets 8 hours screen on after a 20 hour period (and she goes to college during the day where the signal is not that good which also drains battery faster than normal). I'm kinda jealous, lol.

Well the AMOLED screen on the note 3 is supposed to be more friendly to batteries compared to the Super LCD on mega. Plus it's smaller than mega. On the other side you got a much bigger screen on mega that note users envy.

I THINK THERE ARE SOME MEGA different FROM OTHERS.
MINE HAVE DIFFICULT TO REACH 5 HOUR... AND I SAY I USE wifi AND 2G........I DON'T KNOW WHY MY MEGA IS NOT A GOOD BATTERY PERFORMER.

Coming from a note 1, when i got my mega i bought a spare battery. And i have basically never needed to use it. So, yes, would agree, in comparison, battery life is awesome. I also use green power to switch off stuff with screen off and overnight, and it works nicely.

Greenify everything ....

How much screen on time did you have? how long has it been since you flashed your current set up?
Sent from my SGH-I777 using XDA App
sorry forgot that shot....i rooted and flashed on either Sunday or Monday this week.....now i do use bluetooth for work so i'm thinking that kills the battery big time....
That is kind of good battery life considering you got almost four hours of screen on time. If your really worried then you should get one of the 3500 mah batteries. I have this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21589969. This battery gets me through at least a day and a half of heavy usage, and it works great for the price.
yeah i wasn't sure...i always keep reading about people getting 1.5-2 days on a battery...it's a new toy so hopefully when the excitement wears off that screen won't be on so much
That's exactly what will happen. You have new phone syndrome. I did too, when I first got my Galaxy S2. Except that I, unlike you, was running stock unrooted, and my battery life was more like 8 hours. I'm now running stock rooted with Entropy's kernel, plus I don't use my phone as much, and I get between 15 and 20 hours.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
Yeah...with almost 4 hours screen on, and mostly on cell data (assumption based on your 2.x hours of wifi on) that isn't too horrible. Your total awake time is about an hour more than screen on, so assuming you had phone calls, music playing, or some other screen off background task to account for some of that, you're doing pretty good...

LOL so I'm guessing the best way to really conserve battery is to keep the screen off. Just outta curiousity (which I will test tonight after full charge) what is an acceptable drop rate when phone is fully asleep for say 8 hours or so. Like what 1-2% an hour?

2%/hour idle drain I consider bad - that's why I haven't released a kernel since 1/2/2012 - I have a power management regression that pushes drain to a bit over 2%/hour when connected to wifi.
I strive for 0.5%/hour and get very close to that frequently when in a good signal area. In a weak signal area (like at my desk at work), it's around 1%/hour.
4.5%/hour or so is the idle drain you'll get if the phone is unable to enter deep sleep.

There probably won't be too much difference between everyone's best times besides the people who don't use their phones. We all have the same phone with the same battery and most ROMs don't really affect battery life.

There are already quite a few screen shots, as the other poster indicated they are all conclusive at the most point. I believe the integrated LTE functionally helped alot. With WiMAX we had a seperate chip which made battery life poor. I get an average of day and a half before recharging and that's using majority of WiFi, BT on all the time but no LTE, many calls etc and screen on 3/4 brightness. That may change once LTE is rolled out and on for most in my opinion but that's when the real tests will be important but for now, all good with heavy usage and that seems to be consistent with everyone else. I am running Fresh 1.0 but that was to address links and multitasking in general.

Yesterday, I had many, many emails and texts, watched Thor (Netflix, 3G), took a 2 minute video of my Wife in her garden, a few pictures, listed to Google Music (3G) for about 30 minutes, a half dozen short phonecalls, and went to bed just under 18 hours @ 35%.
That was pretty acceptable to me, especially with the Netfix vid, which ate up a chunk of the battery.
I'm rooted stock.
Barley using the phone, 15 hours. It had actually slept while off.
Using it, 9 & 1/2 hours & this was also light usage. Didn't have any services syncing aside from mail & I did do a lot of browing & some WiFi.
P.S.
Normally it's all over the place. From 5-8 hours avg. A roll of the dice every time I unplug.
Moderate usage I get a 6%battery drop per hour. Heavy usage 10%. Using Easy Battery Saver, screen is usually 25% brightness, wifi, smartsync.

About 2 and a half days (almost all weekend) with light usage. I don't even check anymore - I have moderate use, and even have an app that randomly changes my wallpaper every 30 minutes, and I still make it to the end of the day with over 30% before I charge it for the night.

Wallpaper Changer from the play store. I have it set to my wallpaper folder, so it randomly cycles through some 700 wallpapers. It's pretty neat.
The longest I've gotten is 58 hours with 20% battery left. I think only had around 2.5 hours of screen time though. mainly texts and fb messages. Nothing too straining on the battery
The only thing(other than physical screen-on usage) that effects battery life are the radios.
Turn them off when not using the phone makes it burn the battery at about 1% every 2-3 hours.
Turn on the radio when you need to use it.
This goes for turning off LTE if you don't have LTE, turning off bluetooth, NFC, and toggling 3g and wifi as needed.
Huge difference.
A lot of people talk about live wallpapers. They make NO difference in battery usage.
Turn them on.
.
I get like, 8 hours max of heavy usage (CS Portable/Emulators) because Maps is on for some reason after I Force Kill it.
I don't know why it does that, but sparse usage usually gets me a day at max.
I know this doesn't count cause it was sitting and in airplane mode. I was on a trip in the Bahamas for a week so no service.
I could have lasted for at least 10 days. If only we had batteries that lasted that long with the radio on!
It just shows how well this phone sleeps!

On a full charge.. 28 - 32 hours with moderate use. Active sync exchange and Gmail sync on too. So much better than my OG EVO and its 12 hours if im lucky, and that one was rooted with turning the processor down.
With normal use(a few emails, a few dozen texts, maybe a short phone call, 30 minutes web browsing) I get about 10-12 hours on a charge.
With light use(few texts, read an email or two) I'll get 14-16 hours.
With heavier use (web browse an hour, play Temple Run for 30 minutes, 40-50 texts, 30-40 minutes of phone calls, I'll get 5-6 hours.
This phone's battery life is quite terrible. I disabled everything that I can without turning it into a 2007 Motorola flip phone.
I bought this on Ebay for $25 to help: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA07Y08C1271
I've only had the phone for a week but my best time has been about 10 hours on Tuesday with what is moderate useage for me... not much better than my GNEX
Check this out. I had my phone plugged in at work, and I unplugged it when I left. I just grabbed it to do some surfing, and my battery is still showing 100% after 4 hours. I know it's been at idle, but I would have expected some drop of the battery.
Is this normal? Don't get me wrong; I'm definitely not complaining, just curious that's all. My last 4 Android phones never held the battery this good at idle.

I got rid of my DNA a while back because of battery life but I kinda want it back. I have a buddy trading me his DNA and he just sent me a screenshot of his usage.

+1 for gsam, great app.
What does it matter what his current screen time is? Two people just told you they get 5 hours of constant screen time and 3 hours would be a bare min with hard hard gaming and tasks. For what this phone is, it does fantastic for its battery.
And if you are spending 5 hours staring at your phone you may just be an inrovert. Lets think about this, if you spend 5 hours glued to your phone, thats 20% of your day blocking off everything around you. Thats alot of things to miss out on.
Is that 5 hour mark achievable with just LTE and no WiFi?
I get a full day (17ish hours I am awake) with at least 3hrs screen on and will goto bed with at least 20% charge left.
edit: I also have 4g and wifi on throughout the day - never turning either of them off.
The battery life has a lot to do with your signal coverage.
Take this as an example. For the first few months with the phone I worked in an office with poor signal reception. I mean bad. It would be hunting for even a 1X connection on minute, then showing full bars of 4G the next, just to lose it all 10 minutes later. (It was the building, not the phone). Now I'm in a new office that has excellent 3G coverage (4G seems to come and go, I blame Verizon).
My routine is the same. Unplug at 6:30am, moderate use throughout the day. At the old office I'd be down to 30% or so by lunch (12) and if I didn't charge it I'd die around 5:30pm. At the new office I actually forget to charge it during the day sometimes. It'll last until 8pm. And that's using the phone a good amount during the day.

What ROM/kernel/settings are you using? I've never gotten over 4.5 hours.
I don't know about screen time but I'm right over 12 hours off the charger today and have 53% left. Most days I have between 25% and 35% left when I put it on the charger at night after 16 hours. No wifi, LTE on and auto brightness. Only had to charge it twice before the end of the day.
I will install GSam though. I'm interested to see what my actual screen time is.

That's a little higher than normal for me, for example, today I'm at 15 hours and have 14% left.
On days where I use my screen a lot I get less.
The other night I was working on some late night research and my phone was plugged in and I noticed the charging light turn green. Knowing I had at least 5 more hours to go before I was done, I un plugged it, put on Netflix over 4G, streaming some hd movie my kids watch, since Dr Seuss about trees. Anyway, i let it play at full brightness and recorded the time and percent. It died at right around 5.5 hours.
I ended up using the best fit line (linear approx) and wrote a model of battery life as a function of screen tine, brightness, and 4g vs wifi. I'll see if I am find it.
But over 5 hours is pretty respectable though. I was impressed.

[Q] Samsung galaxy s3 battery

Im new to this forum thing so sorry if i do/type something wrong. Anyway, i got my gs3 few months ago, and the battery life lasts a day, when i had iphone 3g it lasted like 3 days without charging, so i wanna know if this is normal with everyone or i have to fix it. Yes its rooted with a costume rom.
How often do you use it? Which CPU governor are you using? Make sure it can deep sleep, because if it doesn't it will drain very quickly.
Deep sleep? First I'm hearing about that. Could I set that myself in the paranoid kangdroid ROM
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Deep sleep is a built-in feature that reduces power consumption when you're not using the phone. There are some applications that will keep your phone awake (known as a a wakelock) even when the phone's screen is off. To find out more, get CPU Spy and Wakelock Detector. The former will show you how long your CPU is in each frequency and deep sleep, if at all. The latter will scan for apps that are keeping your phone awake when it should be sleeping.
How much screen on time and other use does it get?
I get 3-4 hours of screen on time before I charge and that's a typical day for me. The newer and more powerful hardware is going to use more battery in general, too - compared to an older phone with much weaker hardware.

Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
If your phone lasts a full day, that's a miracle by today's standards. My S3 i9300 lasts about a full day also, with ~2 hours of screen time at most. Unless you have a Motorola Razr Maxx (3300 mAh battery) or a Note 2, you're probably not going to get over a day of battery life on any phone with anything over minimal usage. Also, don't let your battery die completely; don't go lower than around 20-25%. If you repeatedly do, your battery will overall hold less of a charge.
I suggest also that you turn on Power Saver if you're not gaming. Go into Settings -> Power Saver and disable the screen power savings (it limits the frame rate). This basically keeps the phone from going above 1 GHz (barely noticeable in terms of speed, but big battery savings).
Since you use a custom ROM, try messing with the min/max frequencies of your phone. My Samsung Galaxy SII has pretty good battery life; in this screenshot it's about 2 hours of screen time - 30 minutes of internet data, 30 minutes of music and the rest is miscellaneous gaming, videos, arranging apps etc. Oh yes, and a few phone calls, of course.

Moto E battery life

Hello all forum members,
i have recently bought a moto e and been using it for over a week now. the mobile has been performing very well. however recently i noticed that the battery life for my moto e is coming to around less than 1 day. For instance yesterday i had taken it completely charged in morning around 7 am from house. i did not charge it through the day. it had mobile data on through the day.background applications were running like the updates, location, emails etc which are usually on. at home i have wi fi and used it along with a small time of playing games (may be half to one hr). by the time i had gone to rest, the battery was around 13 percent and phone was dead when i got up.
so it lost around 87% charge in 14-15 hours.
is this normal time to expect on battery? i read people claiming more than 1 day with normal usage.
please help me out with this as i am concerned whether to return the phone or get a replacement.
thank you,
Tarun

It's completely normal. Moto E's battery last for that much time only.
It's totally fine!

I meant a smartphone
I am getting a SOT of (mostly indoor use):
1- Only 2g all day - 5.5+ hours
2- 2g and Wifi(wifi mainly used) all day- 6.5+ hours
3-Only wifi all- 7+ hours
And a average standby time of around 24 hours with that SOT
I am not a intensive gamer, my usage pattern includes mainly using messaging services, watching videos on youtube, listening to music.
Snapshots of battery life
i am attaching the two screenshots i took yesterday. i have tried calibrating my battery as what Matt has suggested on motorola forums for moto-g.
discharged the phone completely, charged it to 100% without turning it on. kept at 100% for 4 more hours, removed from charger, turned it on for 3-5 mins, then put it off and charged it again for 1 hour. repeated this cycle for 1 more time.
after this calibration even, i am getting a low usable battery life i think. 13 hours to 5% charge. during the last few hours (around 2-3 hours) i was chatting on whatsapp and listening to FM radio, so the screen was on as shown, other services were on like location, mobile data, auto brightness.
can anyone tell me if this is normal?, people are claiming a battery life of more than 1 day. now i am getting really worried.
thank you,
Tarun

Screen on Time
i have attached the scrrenshots which i have attached to get an exact idea of screen on time. but as far as my estimate goes, my screen on time would be 4 hours (guessing from my chart-attached on page 1)
Battery life is good for me, normal usage with some wifi

you have certain settings that are much different than mine. your mobile data is off, your battery saver is on. your case cannot be compared here.
post the battery snapshot details. only then we can understand if we are comparing apples to apples or apples to oranges.

Yea not using mobile data at all, only wifi and calls added battery detail snapshot in previous post
was connected to internet all day
WiFi and 2g(mainly WiFi though)
this same pattern of usage used to give a SOT of 2.5 hours maximum on my previous device (Xperia Ray- Carbon ROM)
I am really impressed with this device!
