[Q] Made a mistake changing file permissions. Need fix quick. - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was trying to replace a file in /system/etc folder and it wouldn't let me paste one, so I changed the permissions to be able to paste a file, but what I did was remove the execute permission for /system , /system/etc , and /system/etc/paranoid.
Any way I can change them back somehow? I tried loading TWRP and opening terminal and typing "chmod 755 system" and "chmod 755 etc" and it went, but didn't help the phone boot.
I just can't boot and need help.
Edit: I fixed by reinstalling the ROM again without wiping.

Permission denied?

I'm having issues replacing system files on my droid. No, I have no idea how to compile my own roms.
Trying to replace /system/media/audio/ui/Charger_Connection.ogg with something a bit cooler... (half life 2 suitchargeok1.wav sound)
I converted the .wav into .ogg with audacity and attempted to replace the original file with Root explorer (after renaming it of course). That didn't work, as it kept recreating the original file. Upon doing more reading I discovered there is a way to do it in recovery mode with adb. Failing to figure out how the command line thing works, I tried Droid Explorer and still no luck. Permission denied, so I looked at the chmod outputs and it looks like
-rw-r--r-- for all the files in this directory. Changing them with su chmod 777 didn't work either:
Code:
su chmod 777 Charger_Connection.ogg
Permission denied
I can't figure this out, the device is rooted and in recovery mode. How does it still have the balls to deny me permissions?
I'm using the Axura205Vibrant rom if that helps and the latest usb driver from android-sdk-windows.
Thanks for reading.
No bright ideas, professors?
download Super Manager from the market if you are rooted and use that to copy the file to the proper folder. Just make sure to set the phone to super user in the settings.
Thank you so much! Worked perfectly, I can have the greatest phone ever now lol

[Q] Framework-res Not Recognised

So this is my issue.
I've not got a typical problem with how to edit the apk or what not, but my modified frameworks changes aren't taking effect on the device.
I've used AutoAPKTool to decompile, do my changes then compile and ADB to transfer the apk across to my System/Framework folder, but the changes aren't showing on the device, for instance if I change an image.
This is what I'm using to transfer via ADB,
"su
stop
cp /system/framework/framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.old
cp /storage/framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk
chmod 644 /system/framework/framework-res.apk
sync
start"
I've tried doing a normal "adb push" function but each time I get "Permission Denied" dispite having SU privelages and yes I'm rooted. I've google every possible permission problem but no luck.
I'm using the Archos 70, I hope this is the right forum and I appreciate all help.
Regards.
Anyone please?
You have to put your updated image in the _custom_res folder with the correct folder structure.

Did you mount system as read/write before copying?

changed permission of /system/ with yaffs explorer. phone keeps rebooting

Hi,
i accidently changed the permission of the folder "system" to READ only. atleast i think so... i used Yaffs Explorer to change permission of "system" and i ticked the first line on all 3.
again.. this was an accident cuz i didnt know what i was doing.
now the problem is my phone just keeps restarting ... and then it boots into recovery (3e) on its own...
i tried using ADB to change the permission with adb shell ... and all that.. problem is
adb works. phone connects and shows off as device.
but if i try using the adb shell command or any other command with adb ( except sideload ) it tells me
"PERMISSION DENIED" and similar messages...
i have no clue how to safe my phone now any help would be much much appreciated.
i thought something of my own...
is it possible to write a shell script which changes the permission of "system" folder to its correct one.. make it as a .ZIP file and update use it with "update from adb"
please any help^^
best regards
Krype
I assume you are rooted have you gone into CWM and reset permissions?

Interesting issue, possibly permissions error?

I've messed with some of my files on my phone through ES File manager, and I kept getting errors with a specific folder, I then realized that, it's only happening with the folder I created while pushing a file through adb. ESFM has root permissions enabled, but I could not find where to view the permissions for a folder, only files. I also managed to change the stuff in the folder while in recovery. Do I need to set the permissions for the folder through adb right after i create it, or is it a bug somewhere with the ROM/device, or just a random error? If someone could provide an explanation it would be nice.

See if you can duplicate the error while pulling a logcat. That will help out in solving your problem.
if you dont wanna do that just adb remount and chmod the folder either through adb or adb shell access then restart phone
It's specific to only the folder i created through adb. I'm wondering if anyone else experienced it, or if it is only on my phone
what type of folder and either way you should be able to just adb shell then su then chmod /path to folder

I created the folder on the /sdcard while pushing a file from my computer. The folder was still accessable, I just wasn't able to copy anything into it/edit it. What permissions would be given to a folder like that if i didn't specify them?
you should have been able to read and write by default all of mine are... erm.... delete the folder and create it via root browser or what ever explorer you have and you should be able to long press and access permissions

[Q] SGPT12, modified build.prop, won't boot anymore!

hi,
I still have adb access,
already tried to adb-push of the original build.prop backup back in place, it is actually uploaded, but won't boot anyway.
backup done by build.prop editor, and file pop and push from a linux machine (so no CRLF thing for sure).
attaching snapshot of logcat.txt
... *HELP*
thank you
the problem was in the file permissions. i had to remove write permissions to the group. (rw-r--r--)
You can fix permissions using adb

First of all DO NOT WIPE DATA / FACTORY RESET
This will remove adb access. Depending how far you can boot, do you get adb in recovery or normal. Can you use adb shell? If you can you can us adb shell chmod 644 /system/build.prop
EDIT:
Failing that try to install a zip. Sell my links for both current and older zips
