Synergy Rom - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Anyone have great experience with the Synergy Rom? I am considering it but a review says it is laggier than the other ROMs on there? I wanted to clarify, is it at least better than STOCK? Thanks in advance

I was in the same boat as you, looking for new roms. Don't waste your time with others. Install LiquidSmooth. It's hands down the best rom I have ever used. It's stable, everything works, and there isn't any lag whatsoever. It also gets great battery life and it is very customizable
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 2

Most ROMs are really in their early stages, but it sounds like most of the TouchWiz-based ROMs are fairly complete. As far as lagging, it's probably going to depend on the phone. Beans, Clean, Hyperdrive, etc all have great reviews as well as reviews that list some problems.
I recommend picking one that fits your needs - mods and features - then FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS for flashing exactly. Then formulate your own opinions. A lot of negative reviews or problems stem from people not reading through the original post and thread comments. Reading solves most issues. Good luck, and have fun.

Anything special instructions I need to know for liquid smooth? Just wipe complete and install ROM with gapps? Does the Google wallet hack work with liquid smooth?
Thanks!

All I did was wipe date and cache and the whole jazz and flash the newest build from the goo link and the gapps from clockwork. It runs very smooth. No lag

Synergy rocks, don't waste your time reading into other people trying to steer you away from you want to try. one of the better TW roms. You will like it.

I never said the tw roms weren't good, I was just giving him my opinion on an excellent aosp rom

I am enjoying the synergy rom the most out of all the ones being offered right now. The battery life increase is amazing. It's smooth, sometimes didn't reboot all the way but boring into recovery and wiping davlik as ND cache seems to fix it ( I chalk that hiccup to it just all being a somewhat new room for a new phone) so the bugs need to be ironed out.

+1 on Synergy. Tried Hyper, but for me Synergy is smoother and better battery life. Can't really go wrong with any of the TW Roms right now though.

Thanks for the advice. I am trying out liquidsmooth.. Not bad.. A little buggy on calling.. It works.. Then when I make a call,it ends it immediately.. Over and over.. Wait a few min or reboot.. Then calling works.. Any suggestions on this?

When do you think ICS is going to be released; should I install an ICS-based ROM?

When do you think ICS is going to be released for the Note? I've been holding out on installing custom ROMs, but if it's still going to be a while, I might as well do it.
Also, which ROMs (ICS) are the best? Is the battery life better or worse? Are there a lot of bugs?

I'm using the unofficial. Then stripped out every last bit of bloat before installing apps. Vastly better than stock and only one rom flash. Plus the -k holokernel. My guess is ICS official won't come out until late May or June at the earliest. Even after that there will be custom roms based on it so I'm not going to bother until a good custom rom based on the official ICS comes out.

Be nice. Everything in any kind of forum is subjective.
I could also say you dont know what you're talking about if that's my opinion.
Im a senior software engineer who simply does not have the time to even look at Roms.
Does that make me "nuts?"
ICS seraphim is awesome. Works very smooth and is polished. There are very few known issues with most of these roms, nothing that should be a deal breaker for anyone.
Apex launcher is infinately better than touchwiz.
Also, ics stock revamped is another great rom ported over by smartguy044.

The actual process(after collecting all the files AND INFORMATION you'll NEED) take only minutes.
I would guess that odin takes about 2-3 minutes for each use
CWM takes about 4-6 mins placing files appropriately(automatically)
First boot can be a sweater because nothing really happens except constant logos that you arent used to being on for so long. Takes up to 10mins MAX for first boot of a "heavy rom" like a GB rom, or slightly less for "lighter" ICS roms. Patience here is very important. DO not shut down your phone during first boot EVER! lol
Before you know it, you'll be flashing like crazy.
Remember this advice;
Always make a backup(nandroid) in CWM before flashing anything!
Always wipe data/factory first, then cache, the optionally dalvik in advanced menu for CWM. Dalvik cache is wiped when you wipe cache so its kinda like an extra step. I have ALWAYS wiped all three everytime I flash a new rom, and have almost never had an issue over several devices and hundreds of flashes.
Good Luck, and NOTHING is more IMPORTANT than READING and internally questioning everything.
and dont forget to DONATE to these guys. they are the ones that definitely deserve it. a lot of hard work goes into development and they also put up with a LOT of b.s.

Got my note round 2 in the afternoon and had it flashed and up with apps on it by 3:30...just make sure to download the files you want to your computer ahead of time. Plan it out you know..like write a list out of each thing your gonna do and then do it. Then before you know it you'll download right from xda's app on your phone and flashing on the spot!! Good flashing and have fun!
Can't go wrong with the 'Emily' ROM. It's rock solid and the one I go back to when the still not quite stable ICS ROMs flake out.
The hybrid is really fun but takes some patience and reading to get things working. Depending on what you're setting up.

I was going to go to MeanBean. However, not sure about this Tranquility ROM. Is it even on XDA? Is it heavily themed or more stock? I am giving my phone to my father-in-law and want him to have a good ROM that just works and is close to stock in look.
just going to chime in here, if youre looking for a stock rom best bet is build yourself. it's easy enough to do if you follow some steps. sense isnt really stock imo
if youre looking for something nice to run theres plenty of roms out. best advice is try em all.
Another vote for Tranquility. I've run MeanBean for a while and it was good. Tranquility seems slightly smoother and the theming is excellent. Tranquility was on XDA, but they removed it. Now it's on www.themikmik.com
I did add Zepplinrox multitasking mod, which Mean bean already has in it. Makes a noticeable difference, especially with Sense reloads.

Think I'm going to give MeanBean a shot, working on backing everything up right now.
My biggest concern is battery life, I don't sit on my phone all day so I'm mostly concerned with how the phone behaves while the screen is off; though I do like a smooth experience when it's on.
I'll post back with my initial impression of MeanBean and my experience with the battery once I've had long enough to establish a norm.
-- Question from me. Anyone recommend a kernel over the stock kernel? Maybe something with better governors or fastcharge?

For your situation I would go with OMJ 2.2. It is an ICS rom but runs super smoothe, fast, and has exceptional battery life, and everything works. OMJ also has a later version 2.6 which uses Aroma so you can customize yourself.

Lag and dropped frames on custom Roms

Hey all,
Last night I rooted my DNA and installed TWRP recovery after using the latest Moonshine method to get S-OFF. I first installed the CM 10.1 Unofficial rom that I found under the DNA Original Android Development section, and that was a disaster, as it dropped frames constantly and was super buggy. I even did an Antutu test which it struggled through and scored a 11000... Then I went ahead and flashed one of the newer Sense 5 ROMs from the DNA Android Development forum and that one only faired slightly better with performance. I find it odd that they're running so terribly. Did I do something wrong in the process? I wiped the cache and dalvic cache and did a factory reset and all. I thought that with the DNA's specs, I wouldn't have this trouble...

I barely experience lag on the Sense 5 ROMs...
I definitely know what you mean. Trying out Sense 5 currently. I love Sense 5, but the drop in performance in relation to stock can be glaring at times. Especially opening and closing the app drawer.
This has been my experience on many custom ROMs over the years. I just think some people are more tolerant.
I downloaded an app from Play Store that fixes TRIM issues. Phone speeds up for a while, then slows down again. I also overclocked to 1.75 Ghz. The app is called LagFix

I seriously recommend Eclipse TW 2.0 by nitro. My favorite ROM by far. Imagine a ROM that looks like AOSP, even the status bar, but has all of the nifty TouchWiz features. And if you use Ktoonz's recommended setting, you also get amazing battery life. I love this ROM. Snappy too.

There are plenty of awesome ROMs available. Ultimately, you'll just have to try a few that grab your attention and see what is best for you. I bounced around between many of the TW ROMs before I finally landed on CM 10.1.3 RC2 and I'm very happy with it. See what works for you, TW vs AOSP then find the ROM that you like most.
There's a bunch of factors to consider, the first and most important is what you like, we're all different!
FWIW, I've tried BoneStock and Hyperdrive, they're both very good ROMS but I always go back to CM 10.2 because it does everything I want, it works to perfection and I have some apps that won't play nice with TouchWiz ROMs. Battery life is adequate for me.
As always, YMMV!
