(Guide) Unlock Bootloader First Try (P769) - LG Optimus L9 P760, P765, P768, P769

Ok so a spark bursted in my head at 2 in the morning of an idea and it has worked so im noticed that alot of people struggle to unlock the bootloader but not because the steps are hard but there is one missing part i have found which is it needs to have a signal connection to you provider for it to work and the thing is when you flash V20B the radio is different so it sometimes might get the signal but that is like what 1/100 or something like that haha ok back on track my idea was what if i install the radio for the P769 which was extracted for the workaround that we had for the JB manual install via CWM on V20B and we would a working radio so the bootloader would unlock on first try and i tried it and it worked muahahaha ok so what to do
Well before you go flash V20B to make everything easier make sure this app is already installed on your phone
Artas Bootstrap Recovery Installer and make sure you have the radio zip on your sd card
Then make sure you have debuging on and show touches on also so everything is easier
Now flashing set up first go download the JB guide its in the root l9 offline method and download the bin for V20B ok so now flashing run the rootl9 bat file but for JB then start the flashing process and were going to swap the bin then after swapping let it do its thing
ok after it finishes go to supersu install the binary and after that go to artas bootstrap recovery and install it then boot to the recovery after in recovery flash the radio zip and let it install it takes a while maybe a min to 2 minutes and after it installed reboot and then you should see you have signal hoorah , now just let it sit for 30-40 minutes then after the time is up run the command "adb reboot oem-unlock" from your computer and it should take you to the acept to unlock it and just press volume up and tada you have unlocked bootloader on first try
Sorry For No Links but in a Hurrry Good luck

Lol, I think this post needs some editing, but thank you for the help and support. Perhaps when you get some rest you'd be able to re-write the guide with bullet points and links.

I can not find this app Artas Bootstrap Recovery Installer search all over since you posted this fix. Could you link me to it.

Well I have it unlocked with a Net10 sim card... so I need a T-Mobile simcard just to unlock the bootloader? Can use a simple mobile one?

I have no signal on my P768 on V20B how can I fix this?

I meant no signal from my provider... but I solved it, doing a Hard Reset, I'm sitting here waiting the 30-40 minutes, so I can enter the command, I'll tell if it works, it should work now, hopefully, if you were right and you do need signal from your provider to unlock the bootloader.

I tried before but only reboots with no unlock.

It didn't work on my P768 even if I have signal from my provider, I even checked the H+ on my phone before trying to unlock it, it just reboots normally.

Ok, I hate being hand held, but I have a question. Fm my understanding these are the steps I should be doing to unlock BL and Rooting the Sweet LG L9 P769 below:
1. First flash the V20B_00.KDZ Process.
2. Next Unlock the BL
3. Then Root the device Process.
4. Install recovery cwm, and the RC5.
Please let me know it this is correct, and add anything that i should lookout for.
When I start this process I'll make sure to take Note to write a first grader process.
I love this device for the price i pay for it, and i love a challenge.
My future device will be a LG optimus G Pro, but until then I need to get the LG L9 P769 hacked.

I would say a possible brick requiring a trip to LG Repair Center. But that's what warranties are for.

I have 2 phones so I am willing to give this a try even though I may brick it.
Here is my device status: P769BK 10g rooted.
I need to know exactly how to attempt the bootloader unlock. Do I need CWM? What software and steps to flash? etc.....
Ok I'm about ready to give this a go. I've familiarized myself with fastboot, and will flash u-boot and x-loader thru fastboot. Does anyone have an original u-boot and x-loader so I can unbrick my phone when this doesn't work?(P769)

Here seems to be original files with patched files. And IDA working files... Take a look in archive.
Ok I flashed patched bootloader thru omap4fastboot. Upon flashing u-boot and x-loader the phone is bricked won't turn on or anything. Was able to go back into fastboot though and flash the original files back. Its back working again, however when booting up the screen is mirrored(just picture not touch) it stays inverted like this until I lock and unlock the phone after that its fine until next restart and a very minor inconvenience until I can get a hold of P769 u-boot and x-loader from some kind person. So confirmed not working at least on P769.

@Tablechair
Great you have tried without fear and congrats for recovering back phone when it failed.
But tell me, was your P769 already had the mirror issue due to earlier P765 flashing? Or it appeared after above procedure you performed and now screen working fine?
What happened was:
I did not have the original bootloader file from P769. I only had the unmodified files that payday was working on. I suspect he had files from another device variant P760 or something. The screen mirror thing I haven't experienced before. I believe if I can put the proper files back it will be fixed. So, I really need someone with a full P769 dump to share with me u-boot and x-loader. The screen problem goes away shortly after boot, but I've noticed another symptom when I try to flash using the method in your thread the tool hangs after trying to contact the phone. It was very late though I could've overlooked something even though I've used that method before I will be trying again tonight after work.

xmmm maybe someone with a p760 variant to try, but first we must find a way to safe revert the trouble before trying

Now I start to have a picture of the pioneers in tech
Quick question: is this your primary phone or just a fun/backup phone?
This is my primary phone. Thank you for your kind words but, it was actually a really foolish thing to do. Next morning after this I tried a few times to flash a kdz to get root with Lelus's new method, but it does not work something got really messed up from flashing stuff in fastboot. Now after attempting to flash kdz I get security error again, and I will most likely have to send my phone into LG for warranty service. I'm not upset about it though, if I saved a few people from trying the same and bricking their phone I am happy and it was worth it.

[Q] l9 p769 root error beicked phone

I have a us T-Mobile p769 and I tried to root and put on a cm10 rom and ran into this error. I have rooted many android phones and tablets and kindles, and have never had so many problems as with this phone. does anyone know of a way to restore this phone?
I have tried redoing offline method but cant not get into the phone when put into SW update mode the only other option I have is the lg recovery screen for lg data techs. if I tried to do a hard reset it just goes straight back to this screen(see attached) thank you in advance for any help.

good, you are done with fastboot.
Put your phone into s/w upgrade
Do following steps 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11,(offline flash) from [GUIDE] Root L9 ICS/JB with New Lelus method & Offline Flashing [LOCKED BL] [31-Mar] by cmahendra Your phone should boot normally after that. Then from same guide steps 0, 5, 7, 8 (root).

You won't need unfix anymore, #12 and #13 can be done after you completely restore your phone.
Pinoyto has been working on CM10.1 ,which works quite alright but installation might be tricky and it needs unlocked bootloader.

Use the offline kdz method to get back on 10G rooted. Search for lelus' screen fix and apply.

Can you elaborate on this? I've tried to use the Smartflashtool to fix this problem and haven't had any luck.
Havent used it in a long time, but in fact you only need smartflashtool (sft), the fls file you extacted from the kdz file and that's basically it. Reboot your phone in download mode and open sft. In there change to the correct tab, choose your fls (dont remember which field, since it is REALLY long ago) hit start and it should update your baseband.

Great idea but how do you get past the magic number does not match issue? If you have the model.dll file for the p769 could you please forward so I can replace the one I have. Mine is for the 940
Sent from my LG-P769 using xda-developers app. 'tis the season to give thanks so push the button already!
Like I said, I only inserted the fls file and there was no magic number error.
Maybe check the p970 forum, there is another version of SFT. Maybe it was this one, that worked.
Well that would be great if we could get that to work for our phone because it take like three minutes to flash. This would be an alternate to the offline flash.
P769v20h- 'tis the season to give thanks so push the button already!
Ok again:
It works to flash the BASEBAND ONLY!
It does NOT and I repeat N O T work for the full firmware.
For this to work we would need a new modell.dll, which we probably can only get from LG itself, or a REALLY good reverse engineer here on the forum. But I really doubt anyone wants to do this. I was also talking to xonar_ and he is like an android god to me. He confirmed, that it's very hard, up to impossible to get this to work. I also tested a pack made by him, but it also wouldnt work. If anyone is interested, go ahead an contact him. He is a really nice guy and explains everything very much in detail, if you nicely ask for

Maybe you and I are not talking about the same thing. I'm talking about the SmartFlash Tool that is in this post. I don't know what you are talking about.
Fixed my touch screen on LG P769
I am now able to fix my wonky touch screen finally. Thank God.
After spending the whole day Saturday to unlock the bootloader and install custom rom, I finally gave up after 24 hours. Next I wanted my phone to be in working condition by Sunday night.
I just flashed the stock kdz (V20h) for t-mobile usa. I had this one originally. My display was okay (after initial switch off and on) but touch was still not good.
After that I just did root my phone and installed Super Su. as mentioned in other threads
Then followed the command to cat v6.bin into some firmware file, as mentioned in other threads. It feels so good to get the touch screen working again.
The display is still mirrored when phone boots, but first time i switch off the screen and on again, and it's fixed.
I will edit this post, later with more details and links later.
Also, I did a Factory Data reset, after flashing v20h kdz. But I believe it was not required. In fact, it was very difficult to enter passwords for wifi, google play account etc with the wonky touch screen.
Sounds like you got it under control. Here is a zip file Kuma made that I use when I try to unlock bootloader. Sometimes I have to install it twice but it's the fastest way to get back to normal

Work through the wonky screen and install artas182x cwm recovery for locked bootloaders (it's a 2nd init recovery) & Robert busybox.
I have both apps on my themed rom for locked bootloaders http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46151882

Something here doesn't make any sense, I can't find a mirror for V20B anywhere.. does this mean I'm stuck with a locked bootloader or is there another alternative?

Just a quick question,
I live in an area with no signal and I use wifi calling for text/wifi. Do I have to have signal during the 30 minute wait to be prompted after I run the commands and reboot?

It might work, if I remember correctly, some have done it with no signal only wifi, I would leave it on longer than 30 mins though.

So I got my bootloader unlocked but unfortunately during the second flashing process the up test program froze and errored out, now my phone isnt recognized in adb devices and will only go into s/w upgrade mode.
Edit: I also tried fastboot and was able to sucessfuly get into fasboot but flashing the stock x-loader and u-boot was unsucessful and fastboot just gave me the "waiting on device" message.
Edit 2: So after quite the night of running through your guide and a couple of hard ships, I have to say this a very well written guide and it would have worked the first try if I had been doing too much multitasking while in the second flash process.
Overall was easy to follow and I got through after having failed attempts with others guide before due to oem unlock command not working after waiting.
Also I highly reccomend anyone who is going to try this to at least give the other tutorials on unlocking the bootloader for the p769 a solid read through. It will make a difference in what you understand and dont.
Lots of props and I look forward to seeing what you do for our phone in the future!

I cant seem to location the V20B Europe Open KDZ either. Looks like LG updated to V20C for it.... anyone know of a working link to the v20b kdz??

EDIT: I have located it, It is Here, second link in first post: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B059sYrh0T19UWluVjVWaGJpTFU/edit?usp=sharing This include a few other files include the v20bkdz
confused abotu superuser part.....
So carlos it looks like i was having the same issue as you that you posted in another unlocking bootloader thread, cant get past the adb oem-unlock. It just keeps doing a normal reboot.
I saw you got it to work with the wifi connection, is that confirmed needed for every attempt?
also in your guide you have the following command: Go to the Superuser App and update the binary the normal way
I dont know what that means , could you explain that part a little better. Thanks

P769 LG Security Error

So I rooted my phone with a locked bootloader using this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2173465 and went ahead and installed CWM recovery, and then tried to flash this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2428306
After my phone rebooted, I keep on getting this LG Security Error and cannot boot into the phone. I've tried to use the fastboot method to try and flash a new kdz, however I keep on getting stuck at the waiting for device part.. would appreciate it if anyone could help me to just restore my phone to factory settings?

Sounds like you made a serious error and didn't do any research before proceeding. Did you install the LG drivers prior to doing anything with the phone? If not, you have just bricked your device. L9RecoveryInstaller.apk is the ONLY way at the moment to successfully install CWM on the P769 if the bootloader is locked. I don't have all the answers myself as I'm fairly new to this device, P769, myself. There may be someone here with a little more insight as to how to fix your issue, but if you didn't install LGs drivers beforehand, I'd say your device is bricked. Sorry.
You'll need to use fastboot to flash ICS u and x. Then go into upgrade mode by holding volume up and plugging the phone to the computer. Upgrade mode should pop up and you're ready to flash any kdz using the offline flash method.

Or simply unbrick using the lgupdate tool. Why not go the easy way?

security error should appear when some system mod was been wrong (sorry bad english)
you should re-flash the firmware with kdz(this time flash a firmware with cwm and root included)

L9 P769 is a much different creature than the other P76X variants. CWM CANNOT be installed on the recovery partition unless the bootloader is unlocked. There are very few people here who have managed to unlock the bootloader on this device ( P769 ). Any attempt to modify the bootloader, boot partition, or recovery ends in "LG Security Error". As per my previous post, the only way to get CWM on this device with a locked bootloader is with the L9RecoveryInstaller.apk.

Do you have busybox installed and or do you have multiple copies of busybox installed?
If you don't have busybox, install it from the Play Store. Make sure it installs to /system/xbin.
If you have multiple copies, which I did when I had this error, use the busybox installer to uninstall all copies of busybox and then use the installer to reinstall busybox to /system/xbin.
You may need to run L9RecoveryInstaller again. It will say there is a recovery installed just reinstall anyway.
Reboot and try again.

Cm11 is available, yes some people can unlock the bootloader. Theres a few threads about removing tmobile bloatware, along with solutions to the other questions I answered. Simply search your question and you'll find a solution. THEN if you can't find the solution by searching make a thread to ask about it. Goodluck if you try unlocking the bootloader, its quite a journey!! If you can't unlock it or the process scares you out of trying search Kuma ROM. Goodluck!

Hi, I'm in a similar boat as the OP, successfully rooted the device but didn't realise I needed an unlocked bootloader to flash a recovery. Now I get Security Error.
Now, I keep seeing "ICS x and u" on this forum, and have no idea what it is. Yet people keep saying it like it's obvious.
Is this it? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44144663
If so, obviously I can't follow the steps because my phone won't boot up past the splash screen. And said phone isn't recognized by ADB at the moment, because I can only figure out how to boot it into S/W update mode.
Currently I can't even use the L9RecoveryInstaller.apk, because, again, can't boot up. Help?
