[Q] Which .apk's(crapps) should I remove in official 4.1.2? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I'm thinking of switching to official ROM. The thing is, it's full of crapps. I want to remove EVERY SINGLE .apk I don't need(be it in the launcher or not). I want it to be as slim as CyanogenMod 10.1
Does anyone know? Thanks in advance!

First...you need to root your firmware in order to 'debloat'....
Second....you need an app like Titanium Backup to freeze and/or remove the bloat.....
Take a look at this thread. .....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1069924
Word of advice.....
1) freeze the (cr)apps before you delete them....to find out whether you lose any functionality that you need......you can unfreeze any needed apps if that does happen.
2) make a nandroid backup before you begin......that way you can restore your (bloat filled) firmware if you accidentally remove a system app that your phone needs to boot.....
Sent from my rooted, de bloated, stock JB powered S2 via PhilZ kernel and XDA developers app

An easier method to debloat is after rooting, install the app system cleanup, in the apps section it will give detailed info on most apps and which all are safe to remove and which all can be removed but with loss of features.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app

Just had a look at that system cleanup app.......
Seems it can do the same as Titanium Backup.....and a whole lot more......
Nice share King  thanks

Memo 1.0 app

I just installed Revolt and noticed JB no longer had the memo app.
I tried doing a Titanium restore but it didn't work (hung).
I found a thread with a port of Memo to CM7 but it wouldn't install.
I'm fine using an alternative if someone can help me restore my old memos. Any advice?

Well, that did install it (I see the icon now - thanks). Unfortunately, the app closes immediately after opening. I also tried using Titanium to restore *just* the data portion for Memo (in case it needed it to work), but that didn't do anything.
Worst case, if I can't get it working... is there a way to look at the data I have saved in Titanium to retrieve my old memos? Assuming they're saved in plain text/viewable with a hex editor?
Memos ae stored in .db file, but recovering it may be impossible.
And if you want working Memo app, here you go:

The only way is to flash a stock based Rom, restore memo.apk data, transfer your memo to another app, backup your memo with that app, or use titanium, then flash back your present ROM, and restore your third-party memo app.

hey can you tell me how you make it working with old memos ??
i have cm9 with siya 4 version and i have installed memo app...
and i have my old memos data backuped through titanium..
how to restore the old memos and make it working ??
I used titanium to restore "data only" back for memo app. Copied the above apk (few messages above) to my system/app dir, change permissions to rw-r-r and make sure there are no memo.tmp or memo.opex files. Reboot, and you should see your old memos

Restore Memo 1.0 using "signedMemo.apk"
I flashed my phone to CM 10.1 Pro a few days ago. I successfully restore all my memo installing "signedMemo.apk". Then use Titanium Backup to restore "data" only. Everything is there. What a relief. It took me days to Google it.
Many thanks atarifreak for posting the solution at Android Hilfe (Memo to restore 1.0 cyanogenmod 10)
I hope this will help many of you out there.

Its currently early days for this device and roms, as of 21st July we still have issues with CWM, Root, amongst other things so its back to the drawing board
Those who knew my later edition roms know that they came with Aroma Installer, alas this is another area thats not playing ball at the moment so ive gone back to the good ole days of producing a slim rom with removed app updates zips. Dont worry as development progresses the old style install will come back

Known Issues
A) Not an issue so to speak but certain menu items will cause a crash if you have not installed the additional apps, i.e faceunlock, or help file etc not a bug just the benefits of slim rom, but you probably wont come across it, Video player has odd dependancies
Tips and Tricks
1) Give yourself Developer Mode - Click Build Properties in about device until it tells you success
2) Turn animations to .5x instead of x1
3) Folder Mount works perfectly if you have it backedup when you open just pin the apps (after you install them before you open them)
4) Turn wifi on off at set times, Goto settings > Wifi > Advanced> set time

One thing I pride myself on is my n7000 thread never turned into a flame war.
We were all new to this and needes help on the way.
I always flash my builds every which way I can as to reduce any risk.
All I ask is that you read and follow instructions before asking a question. However I will always answer where possible and I ask users of this rom to assist each other.
I appreciate english is not everyones first language an I ask you all to understand that when assisting people. People should always search first but we shall not flame anyone who does not

thering1975 In the local forum i participate in some people flashed I9205 based rom onto their I9200 devices, taking the modem file (NON-HLOS.bin) out of the firmaware, an this worked fine. As an option it's also possible to remove the kernel and recovery from the firmware and in this case you won't get the two red lines after flashing. I guess your rom can be flashed to the i9200 in this way also?

For the moment the modem is removed as ia the kernel.
No recovery is included as no cuatom kernel or cwm is done yet.
As for will it work on i9200 I cant say in theory I cant see why not as long as the partition table matches but alas im not going to recommend it so try at your risk.

Congratulations! This is officially the first custom ROM for the Galaxy Mega 6.3. I'm sure this will be the best ROM just like with my original Note. Hopefully the issues with CWM and root will be ironed out soon. I am not bothered with AROMA as long as I get the slimmest ROM possible with rock solid stability. All the extras can be put in a separate file for those who want them.
So with Foldermount, is this correct?
* Do a backup of the mounts in the app
* No need to put the data back into phone storage
* After installing custom ROM, install apps that use foldermount
* Before opening the apps, restore foldermount data
Is the default phone storage bigger in this ROM? Thanks for all the hard work

I backed folder mount both with tb and its internal backup
Google rerestored all apps
Open folder mount and pinned the apps
Started apps and they all worked without downloading again
An thanks its crude at the mo hence beta tag loads to add in and ill update it regularly. Got loads to so but its stable so far and pretty snappy.

A little extra storage in build one but original full rom is about a gig this is 680 or so but I got a way to go yet. Plenty of optimising nd strramlining. Plus nees to add in built in updater etc. The core setup without addons is heavily ut back probably save another 100mb from language files etc.

I see, I just need to back everything using Titanium backup and restore them like usual. I deleted most bloatware manually and currently I get almost 900MB RAM free. The only Samsung app I use is the Watch On to use the remote control function of the Mega. Keep up the excellent work :highfive:
Use tb sparingly it can be a pain I restore data only.
Foldrrmount has its own backup in its settings I think. The app data is on your sd card so once pinned all good

[Q] Stock rooted and wanting to freeze apps.

I rooted using the one click and was hoping to freeze some bloatware and unnecessary extras. Casual was nice enough to freeze a few things for me. I also froze the ota apk (sdm01.apk don't recall exactly). Does a list exist what is safe to freeze/remove anywhere? Thanks
Depends on what you are trying to freeze. You can use es file explorer or root explorer to delete them out of the system/app folder. Most custom roms are already debloated. Test out a couple of Roms and find the one you like. As for a list, should be able to just google that.

Deleting the apk also is a good way to free up system space and make your handset run faster. Also when I say custom ROM, it does not necessarily mean that it does not have the stock features anymore. Just that there are added features that help with functionality and performance.

Several ROMs are debloated, for example,
[ROM] Android Revolution HD 4.0 | ICS | High Quality & Performance | Best STOCK ROM
It might be good to peek in the ROM Bible:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1423022
And go through the developer's thread to see the list of ROM's and read their first page where the features/unfeatures/undocumented features (bugs) are listed.
Good answer!
You really have to be careful when uninstalling apps.
Best thing to do is to freeze them in titanium backup first. Then if they kill something you can un freeze them.

Thanks pbergonzi and Chevy for your valuable replies
and one more question
Debloated ROM means what kind of ROMs ? What exactly does it mean ?
sorry i am noob
thank you
Debloating means to remove the bloat. Bloat means to puff up, or swell. Some people feel that carriers fill the phones with junk, such as T-mobile apps, that is, bloated. Some developers make ROM's without the junk or bloatware, thus debloated.
The simple act of google finds explanations of bloat, etc. That is a reminder to search. One of the things that separate noobs from non-noobs is the ability to use a search engine.
Thank You
so basically you are saying search before you post, right ?
ok got it !
sorry
thank you friend
Use rom toolbox to get rid of bloat, it has an uninstaller through which you can remove any system applications. Make sure you have root and proper know how which application can be removed without ending up in a boot loop

I wonder if theres a Clean Stock Rom Lollilop 5.0.2 For A7 , with minimal system software Stock without modifying anything, I just want a Simple system android, Its annoying that apps like KNOX,Smart Manager,S finder etc.. its better to remove.
That's true. But I delete these things with root explorer. So the Sami waste is gone.

But im,afraid... some apps are connected to them when I tried to remove, we can`t just simply remove it, otherwise we have to restore the system again..
Look a bit around here in xda forum. You find many stuff over debloating Sami Roms. Often heavenly detailed.
