Incorrect internal storage read - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently installed the new 4.2.2 sotmax rom onto my GSIII and whenever i go into setting it says I only have 5.7Gb free storage (internal, no external) - I've done a wipe cache/data from recovery and freed up unused backup space - still no luck.
Any solutions?

if you came from a 4.1.2 ROM please read this thread as 4.2.2 sets different mount points and will keep your 4.1.2 ROM also.

[Q] Help! Can't find my data in 4.2.2

I installed the latest carbon rom 4.2.2 and now i can't find my old data i.e when i was in the 4.1.2 sammy rom. And I know that the data hasn't been deleted since only around 4gb of space is left. Anyone has any idea where the data is? I tried checking in all the folders but didn't find any.
Thanks
P.S Restored back to the old rom though I would like to install a 4.2.2 rom provided this issue(if this is even an issue) gets resolved.

Storage full - but with what?

Hey everyone!
I thought maybe some of you could help me with this. I'm on XXUFME3 and I have a weird problem with the internal storage. I have only 3 GB left but I don't know what fills up so much of the storage as the Storage in Settings shows in the chart I haven't used this much space.

If you've flashed ME3 coming from a 4.1.2. rom without a wipe, then all your things remain at the old 4.1.2. mount points. 4.2 has new mount points and generally a wipe is required when switching.
Hej, JJ, try to be of help for once, would you? It's better to help them with their problems and then suggest where they should post the next time. It's in the rules, but I bet you knew that.

Hi guys,
I´m bumping this old thread because i have the same problem than the OP. I´ve search around for a while, but haven´t found any way to fix it.
As it happenned to the OP, my internal memory is full, but i´m not using nearly half of it.
What can i do about this?
I´m running temasek unofficial CM11 build v36. Did i full wipe before flashing it.
Thanks in advance for your time,
Walter

Go to /data/media with a root explorer you should see 3 folders:
0
legacy
obb
If there are any other folders beside the three above copy them to 0 folder leaving the three above..

Hey Tallman43, thanks for your answer.
This is how my internal memory looks like:
As you can see, inside data there is no media folder, just a bunch of app folders.
Im still a bit unclear on what to do

Unfortunately, i can´t move all the folders, as i don´t have enough space in the internal storage (the irony...) Many of the folders are duplicate btw, so i´m just trying to overwrite them.
I´ve tried two times, but at the second attempt the OS crashed and the phone got rebooted.
Any other ideas?
Thanks for your help btw, very kind of you!

Did you just backed up user apps + data? I guess after formatting you had to flash the ROM again, right?
What do you think caused me this problem? Could have been because i restored system apps and data from my Titanium backup?

Yep had to reflash but it's worth it for the space it freed up Its the new folder structure on 4.3 RootSu has a thread about it that explains everything.
Alright i´m looking into the thread now, thanks for the tip!

I´m looking into this solution. Could you explain how you copied all the internal content into the PC, and what was it that you restored back?
Do you have to to any special format or create any partitions after it´s clean?
Thanks!
I have been manually deleting folders from /data/media. I actually had a lot of data from old apps, and also all my old pictures, whatsapp pics etc...
I don´t understand how this can still be in the phone after several full wipes.
Is it any better way to wipe everything from the root folder and internal memory so i can flash the new rom with a completely clean phone?
would format in cwm do the trick?

[Q] Can't see internal sd card files after installing slimbean rom

I just installed Slimbean for the S3 i9300 (based on 4.3 android) coming from Ultima rom 15. The Rom is fantastic but I cannot see any of my files which were stored on my internal sd card. This means no access to backups! I can however see the folders and zip files from CWM. Also, when I check storage from settings, it is showing only 5.14 GB out of total 25.57.
So, I am sure the files are all there but not visible anywhere. Tried ES and Astro Explorer and searched all over.
I had done a complete wipe - cache, dalvik cache, format system and format data as suggested on the rom page.
Searched all over the net for a solution but no luck!

Sorry its a rom issue that its not giving access to the storage card, wait for some new build that arrive in ROM thread, if still the problem presists with some new builds than probably you might have to change the ROM..
Thanks Suyash1629…:good:
I dug a bit deeper and searched in different angles to come across this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2506982
It turns out that if you are "upgrading" to 4.3+ then you have to format your internal sd card. This can be easily missed as we normally flash roms without having to do that.
And not sure if it is related but after installing the slimbean 4.3 it seemed I lost root. SuperSu was asking to update binaries (?).
After all that I just reinstalled ultima rom - after which my internal sd card is again accessible and root is back. Will do more research before moving to 4.3.

I did not have a single issue with moving to 4.3. Did a mega wipe and installed the he rom (also slim) anything worked. Did you do a full wipe and manual system format as said in the instructions?

I did all the wipes from what I remember including formatting system and data. Only left out formatting the sd card - did you do this as well?
Doesn't the new rom also get deleted then?
As from 4.2 onwards, the file system directories got changed. Whatever file system on 4.1 will be neglected in the storage count in system. It is different from 4.1 and below. There is a forum link tat will teach u how to solve this. forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2274218

Usually I do a mega wipe before every major rom version which will delete anything but the external SD on which I got the rom zip and flash it right after mega wipe.
As said before, also the folder structure got changed in the new Android versions which you might know already (sdcard0 etc).

Device tells me I don't have enough storage to install new apps.

Hey guys,
so the S2 of a friend of mine has an issue where it tells you that you don't have enough space to install new apps. The Phone is running CM10.2 Stable and I already tried a factory reset. The thing is that she has almost 10GBs free in the internal storage and about 1GB on her (2GB)SD-Card, in the settings under "storage" it says that both were full, even though they clearly have enough free space.
Can you tell me how I can resolve this issue?
Thanks for your time and help in advance.

There is also an internal storage for apps, it's normally 2GB (the first one in settings - storage). Have you tried moving apps to the sdcard?
Reformating the storages? (backup!)
Or use a PIT file to increase the 2GB internal storage for apps.
Okay I didn't see that, apparently there really are 2 partitions labled "internal storage" the one has 12GB and the other one 2GB as you said, App2SD can only move some Apps, but somehow there's something taking up over 1GB of Storage that isn't labled anywhere, what could that be?
Try clearing your logs to free up space

1GB of the 2GB internal storage?
Make a screenshot of your storagespace and post it here.
Here's the screenshot:
It's showing that only about 420MB are used, that means that about 1.4GB are not showing up there and they are used by something else

Strange.
/data is the location. Look in /data/log maybe that's full with logs or something.
Nope, nothing. I tried an app that deletes thumbnails, cache, temporary files and stuff but that just freed a couple of megabytes :/ What else could it be?

Did your friend experienced this problem after he/she flashed this rom or recently flashed cm 10.2?
If so, did your friend got through all the necessary steps?

I flashed it for her, I installed the latest CWM, I wiped /data and /cache and the dalvik cache and then I flashed the latest CM10.2 and gapps at the time. I did that because it was showing this error previously but reflashing CM didn't fix it and that's why I ask here.

Try these steps, backup because everything will be lost.
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik Cache
Format /system
Format /data
Flash rom
Flash gapps

I tried that today but it's still showing me the error.
Could I somehow repartition everything so that I merge the 2GB and the 12GB-Partition? And if so, how do I do it?

Sometimes logs are good but the space if you forgot to turn the log command off is just a pain in the ass. I had once a 6gb log file

I've had issues with this in the past.
One solution that works: if you have 'lucky patcher' installed, open it, (you'll see a pop-up detailing a cache or something clean), now close the app.
All should be good now.
2nd solution, use 'SD Maid', loads of options and works for me.
Good luck.
