Just got the DNA and a few questions - HTC Droid DNA

I am coming from the S3 because of numerous issues. Verizon sent me a DNA and there are a few things I am not pleased with such as losing the SC card slot and removable battery. However, prior to switching from the S3 to the DNA, I had just gotten the 4.1.2. update and the changes were great! When does the update to 4.1.2. come out officially, and is it worth rooting to put a custom ROM with the newest sense 5.0 and the 4.2 update in? Lastly, if I make the jump, because I would like to free up some memory by removing bloatware, is it fairly easy to unroot back to stock? Also, if I root and decide I want to go back to stock when it does go live ( the 4.1.2 or 4.2 rather) can I keep it rooted and still update to the official?
I am not new to rooting and such, being as I have rooted every single phone I have ever had, I am just weighing options before jumping on the root train. Just a little weary because I put a custom ROM in my S3 and the camera stopped working and I couldn't get a solid GPS lock. So I guess another question would be, if I root, which would be the most stable ROM to put in my phone that everything works...
Thanks in advance!!

Hmm. I would go cyanogen mod ..

I was looking into cyanogen being as that is one of the better ROM's I have had in my previous phone. Cyangen is usually the most stable and has the most eye candy. I think I may make the plunge, but does the cyangen have the 4.1.2. with the newest sense?

Go with viper for your first Rom... Everything works and is by far the most customizable. I've tried a lot of different rims but I always seem to go back to viper

I will check it out, although I have used Viper before, but not sure which phone it was. Viper wasn't too bad, but I had GPS locking issues with Viper. Although, it could have just been the phone itself...

First CyanogenMod 10.1 JB is 4.2.2 = (AOSP), totally different If you want a Rom with Sense 5, The most Stable Sense Rom to date is
NOS M7 v2.0.3 (Sense 5.0 JB 4.1.2)

Samsung base - Touchwiz removed roms?

Hi,
coming from HTC Sensation we had a rom where devs took the HTC ICS base - removed (almost) all HTC Sense parts and replaced them with stock AOSP. The result was a very stable rom that looked, felt and behaved like AOSP without the need for devs to manually fix drivers and other issues.
My question is: Is this possible on Samsung roms? Remove TW and replace (almost) completely with AOSP counterparts? I don't just mean theming the rom, but basically turning stock Samsung into (almost) AOSP/Google.
Sorry if this question has been asked (probably) years ago - just wondering.
HyperGalaxy is probably what your looking for much like hypersensation & VI on sensation, thinks it's just changed to the latest OTA jellybean as base.
Keep meaning to try it but have got fond of paranoid rom & cm10 features and haven't had the time.

exactly, VI was my Sensation rom. I'd love something like that. Will look into HyperGalaxy. Thanks.
if you would go to the dev section and read the rom names you will find the answer to your question.. All the roms that are AOSP have AOSP written in their names. like the supernexus rom, hypergalaxy, liquid jellybean, and all the other AOSP roms. there are also AOKP, CM9/X, and PA roms for this phone...you can find all of them in the dev sections
thanks for asking this. i too came from the sensation and was on Hypernonsense. will check out hypergalaxy

Well, too bad, it seems like latest 1.0.2 version includes touchwiz now . I may still try it.
U realize that touchwiz is much more than a launcher? If u want to replace launcher just download another one from market and use it

any ROM that is AOSP-themed like hypersensation for the S3? HyperGalaxy is not, still using stock theme. CodecROM's theme is only half-AOSP and it looks fugly
For a completely AOSP ROM try SuperNexus. Its brilliant.

I'd love aosp. Waiting for mem leak fix first though. That's why I asked about something with Samsung base.

mean rom ever become jb

does anyone know if the mean rom will ever go to Jellybean?

Once the ota for jb is released mikey will hook it up...meanrom is sense and stock based so absolutely no way to build a jb rom as of yet
Sent from the depths of hell
thanks, cause i thought CM10 was considered jellybean and i installed it but wasnt liking the rom at all went right back to mean rom needless to day much better
Praise Odin
Cm10 is jellybean, it is modified from aosp and Google makes any changes or updates to android and it goes into aosp, the ROM you have is based on stock, the advantage is everything unique to stock stays in tact but the downside is you have to wait for HTC to release the updates
thanks alot, sticking to mean rom 3.8 s-on
mean rom has always been pretty much stock.. just the way i like it!!!!!
When MeanROM goes JB, you'll love it. The only reason you could possibly not like JB now is the lack of Sense. You'll have both once we get that magical OTA.
However, CM10 is amazing. So I have no idea what you're talking about anyway, haha.

[Q] HTC RUBY minimalist ICS/JB roms

Hey, this is my first post so sorry if its in the wrong place.
I have had my Amaze 4G for about a year and had wanted to experiment with different roms. Unfortunately there are not a lot which I can get to work with radio and tethering. I am with Wind (dont laugh) but only the T-mobile roms seem to work without incident. I had a good experience with EnergyROM but after trying the CyanogenMOD 10 4.1.2 nightlies I have been looking for a rom which has only the very basic apps preinstalled and no gapps. I really like cm10 because I only get what I want but being unstable releases the battery life is really bad. I wanted to post this to see what people are using which fit this criteria or if there is a way to edit the custom rom zips to remove these apps.
Thanks XD
Try venom rom. You can customize pretty much anything. I don't know the current state of tether on this ROM though because I don't really use it.

Wow... I didn't know they updated so much, I been out of the loop.
The most minimalist remind me of the old Speed ROM days. Those were very minimalist with sense still attached.

I saw the dev page for it and it seems like exactly what i've been looking for but the last time i tried installing i ran into issues. Something to do with s-on/off I think. I have no idea how to make set it to off =/
edit: until i get android rev working would it be safe to just open up the energyrom zip and delete all the apks i dont want? I figured for non essentials like facebook and gmail it wouldnt affect much

[Q] What can I do with my new HTC One?

I've been on the galaxy product line for my last two phones and have rooted them then installed CM on them straight away. Now that I have an HTC One, and it's still a fairly new device, I'm wondering what things I should/could do to it...
So far all I've done is unlock the bootloader, and I'm kinda waiting for ASOP Android to be released but are there any ROMs that are must haves or is there any reason to root it at this point?
Thanks for your help.
I suggest you look around the forum for yourself so you can figure that out

Yeah, I was expecting this type of reply. I've done a decent amount of searching in the HTC boards and this one. I'm asking the question for other people's opinions. But I guess you're right, I could go around the forums on my phone, so, that would be something to do on it although not what I'm looking for.
Sorry if that wasn't what you were looking for but that's my best suggestion

As a Samsung user for the past 3 years or so I've always used aosp Roma myself. I haven't even looked at a single aosp Rom for the one (won't until official comes out) my suggestion is use sense for a while. There's a thread over in international about some stuff the one can do. Check it out. I'd install a international Rom and play with it. (Arhd is great) If you flash an aosp Rom you'll lose beats and the great camera. Keep it (close to) stock for now and enjoy the new sense.

PAC, vanilla rootbox, paranoid android, aokp, slim bean all good ROMs, personally I use PAC and vanilla rootbox.

I wondered the same thing with mine. The next steps you could take if you wanted to: get s-off, get supercid, and pick a good Rom that you like. (for all intensive purporses the first two are negligible). I am currently on Android Revolution HD (arhd) and loving it. Fast and smooth with the 4.2.2 and good battery life. That's a good place to start.

Another vote for Android Revolution HD ...It's an amazing piece of work and just keeps getting better
It still includes an amount of HTC/Google Junk, but it's easy to fix with a root explorer or Titanium Backup

[Q] Back to Sense from CM 10.2

Before i ask my question, I searched for the answer i promise. As you can see by my few posts, i usually find my answer by searching. I am stumped and i think it is because i am not sure i am searching the right string of words....
I recently got a replacement DNA. Unlocked and rooted like the last phone through adb with revone and then pushed recovery and SU. Took my first jump to a non-sense rom, and pulled a nightly for CM 10.2 . It works great, and I am enjoying the Rom, but my data drops in and out. I flashed and wiped and flashed again, and still had the same issues. I am going to go back to a sense Rom for a while until some things are hammered out....
My question.....
I remember reading something about issues going back from CM 10 to Sense because of the "0" folder. If i want to go back to completely stock sense or a sense rom, if memory serves me right, it IS NOT as easy as loading Rom and flashing because of "0" folder correct? I accidentally deleted my Nandroid. If i have to wipe the SD card or anything it's no big deal as the phone has nothing of importance on it. I am just looking for the right steps to get back to a sense rom.
Thanks for the help as always!
As long as you flash a 4.2 Sense rom, you should be just fine.

What if i were to go lower? What is the process like there?

I've flashed back to sense a couple times. Just remember to pull the things you want off /sdcard/ before you wipe everything.
If you have ADB set up plug in your phone and type
adb pull /sdcard/ C:\<username \Desktop\
or wherever you want to keep it.
Thanks for the help guys! Either of you have a preference of good daily driver Roms? I am debating sense 5 from newt or the gpe from him. Looking for a solid daily driver

I'd recommend viper(sense 4+) for a daily driver. You may want to wait for official sense 5, because some of the sense 5 ROMs have been abandoned. It's supposed to come out this month.

Yeah i saw that it was coming. I am probably just going to hang out on the CM builds. As the day goes on the data is staying. at least until either the GPE rom is updated, or official sense 5 comes out. I don't mind sense, i just hate all the bloat, and hate going through and disabling and deleting stuff.....

That's why I stick to aosp based ROMs. Sense is nice, but all the junk isn't worth it.

that was why i jumped to cm, i had great luck with them on my million other android phones. This nightly if the data sticks is good for me, although i wouldnt mind jumping on the GPE edition, people seem to really be enjoying it. hopefully a monthly comes up for the dna on cm and i can check that out...

GPE? Also, Flyhalf's unnoficial CM shouldn't have any issues with data if you're wanting to stay on CM, and only has issues with GPS. Otherwise I'd suggest AOKP. Its been pretty solid for me since the 8/3 build, and TheDanimal said there may be new build up this weekend.
EDIT: Google Play Edition. Herp derp.

haha... I actually jumped on the GPE and haven't looked back. It's so smooth. No big issues for me so far, so i will hang out for a while with it and wait for something good to come along or better. 4.3 seems to be in the works for the GPE.
