[Q] Atrix Orange UK CWR removal. HELP... - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
Please help.
I need to reset my phone to factory defaults. (as im sending it back to orange for a replacement).
I have rooted my phone, but havn't unlocked the bootloader. (rooted using peet's tools)
Its running stock orange UK 45.31.0.MB860.Orange.en.GB. (have never applied a rom to the phone).
I installed the CWM manager(months ago, as i was looking at the roms) from the play store, which installed the clockwork mod Recovery on my phone.
(however this i know wont work as i havnt unlocked the bootloder !)
Now when i try and perform a factory reset, (on button and vol down button).
I get the option for Android recovery.(as well as a shed load of other options).
When i select this with the vol up button, it errors with the following.
Failed to boot 2
Then when i press the vol up button the following is displayed.
Starting RSD Protocol Support.
I dont want to unlock the bootloader, i just need to ability to run android recovery and return the phone to its original state.
(So Orange accept the phone under the orange care agreement).
Please can you advise...
Stu.

Thankyou so much for your help...
I found the correct sbf file for my stock Orange uk GB 2.3.4 phone.
and managed to flash it, all be it with a couple of heart stopping moments.
(whilst the phone restarted into different modes, windows started searching for drivers !!!. even though i had installed them already..
This caused it to fail early on !.. after the main download.
However a restart later, and another issue. the phone has now been flashed back to the correct stock image..
Note to self, ensure windows is never set to auto install windows updates....
flippn thing caused the usb drivers to reload for the atrix phone.
still. one happy atrix customer..
Thanks for your help !!.

No problems.
I performed a google search for orange.sbf and came up with the following.
http://www.das8nt.com/sbffiles.html
This has a load of sbf files..
Specifically, the one i needed was.
1FF-olympus_emara-user-2.3.4-4.5.2A-74_OLE-31-release-keys-signed-Orange-GB.sbf
This worked a dream, putting the phone back.
(ive now got this replaced by orange).
Good luck....
and remember, before you do it, ensure windows is set to not auto update windows updates !!!!....
:cyclops:

I've had 3 phones changed by orange all rooted with unlocked bootloader.. never had a problem. Tho I do pay for orange care package...

[q] unrooting sgs2 (already on stock rom)

My Goal: set everything back to stock for warranty. (charging system is *%$#ed)
my problem: I am stuck at the unrooting part.
I have read everything I can over and over and yet I still find myself in a predicament. I have restored everything back to stock (I rooted and unlocked my SGS2, but I never used a custom ROM).
I have relocked the device, I have reset everything back to stock. I used the jig to reset the flash counter. I re flashed my secure kernel. Everything checks out, except my Superuser access.
Now here is the part where I am stuck. So essentially from what I read I have 3 options that I can recall:
1 - just re flash my stock ROM to remove root (seems pointless as I have never had to flash a ROM, seeing as I am still on my stock ROM)
2 - unroot using SOC (which failed to work, stuck on step 6)
3 - use Samsung Kies to update. (this also failed, won't detect my phone, and yes it is in Kies mode, no debug)
I am at a loss. I am on the Bell network in Canada, and I am on UGKG2 firmware.
Please let me know if you need more information. Also, I apologize if the answer is in one of the threads. I have been reading everything whenever I can, and just can't figure this one out. thanks for your patience in advance

you have to flash an original firmware if you want to get rid of root and cwm.

Well, there is a market app (rootcheck) but it's easy to check yourself, if you dont have superuser in your app drawer you are not rooted.
Let's say, you dont have superuser app and you cannot access cwm recovery = you are not rooted
If I may ask, why exactly is it that you cannot unroot without flashing an original firmware? Why does SOC even give you the option if it doesn't work? Thanks for the timely replies though

soc does work but a lot of people screw up 3 Simple steps and end up with a semi bricked phone.
Flash a stock firmware is probably the more "safe" system. Also allows you to flash latest version that some countries will never receive or receive very late.
Sry my English sux even more today lol
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Ok... So let's troubleshoot why I can't get the unroot to work for SOC... I have tried both in and out of download mode. Debugging on and debugging off. Yet the unroot stops at step 6 and does nothing...

I read in another post it is as simple as removing superuser.apk and the su folder on system...

I just flashed the stock rom back. Seems to look quite 100% like it did when it came in the box. Jigged to kill flash counter. I think I am set to send it in Thanks a lot guys.
Following that, looks like for root you just need to download superuser app from market and you are good to go....
Its not so easy as you know.
Removing the superuser apk just removes the superuse app, but then you end up with a semi rooted phone with cwm recovery (that you dont want if you want to go back to stock)

Good im glad you managed to "restock" the phone as you see it is fast and easy with flash of a stock rom

[Q] Need some help. Yes i'm a noob. But i've been doing homework

Atrix 2.3.4 - 4.5.91
First off, I've done like 10 hours of researching today so please bare with me.
I thought I had unlocked my bootloader and rooted my phone in the past. I'm able to tether so that was a sign I did it.
Today I attempted to install romracer cwm based recovery with rom manager. When i tried to install Rom from the sd. it restarted and said "failed to boot 2" after doing some research it said it was possible my bootloader was not unlocked. Now I think i did the right steps back when.
How do I find out for sure if my boot loader is unlocked.
I'm doing all this because Im attempting to get my phone back to stock as can be. I want to get it back to warranty for the following reasons
1) my video play back is all messed up on my recorder. (will a sbf fix this)?
2) when i insert a external sd card to my atrix, my screen sometimes turns black when it wants to).
So this is where i'm stuck. I read the newbie threads. Thanks for all the info. But man this "failed to boot 2" scared me. Luckily it didn't brick my phone. Took out battery and it started back up.
Help please
If your unlocked it will say unlocked in red letters at top of screen when turned on. If you aren't unlocked its possible you have just rooted your phone I think not positive that a factory reset would unroot your phone. Just go into recovery hold volume down when turning it on cycle down with volume down and choose with volume up in recovery both volume rockers are used to navigate and power is choose.

Use pudding thread to unlock your bootloader, install Rom Racers CWM via fastboot after you are unlocked. If you want to make sure you are rooted after that, use the Moto root, stuck at top of the General section.

My friend's phone tried to pull an OTA while he had CWM recovery installed, and it started boot looping. Had to download the stock recovery, name is PG05IMG.zip in the root of the SDCard, and force the phone to boot to the bootloader and install it. Once it did, the phone started up, rebooted itself, and installed the OTA fine. Sounds like yours may be trying to do something similar?
If so rooted phones need caches cleared for the ota to work.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
From my understanding, Rooted can still take OTA, but you have to have stock recovery to do it (as I witnessed earlier). You will lose root, and will have to re-flash recovery to TWRP, CWMR, or whatever your normal choice is, and then re-apply the su.zip, but otherwise easy as pie.

Hello, first of all I would like to thank everyone who has posted in this thread to try and help out. I just started having a very similar problem- I'm rooted and running stock, but apparently my phone accepted an OTA and I'm stuck in a bootloop as well.
I got into CWM recovery and downloaded the stock recovery PG05IMG.zip, but it won't install. It just aborts every time I try to install it. I'm a noob at this stuff and not very good at dealing with these sorts of things and I've been having a panic attack for the past hour, so if anyone could help me as soon as possible I would really appreciate it.
I'm really scared of making things worse than they already are. I just want a working phone.

pull battery, wait a minute, turn on phone
when in bootloader screen,
volume down, select reboot
back to white screen, select recovery ( i had to do this twice)
hold volume up and power when black screen appears
choose the bottom option (wipe cache i believe)
choose reboot
phone should be good aftter this
( idont own a thunderbolt, but i had to fix this for a nother phone, called tech support and this worked)
hope this helps - hopefully saves someone from ruu'ing and wiping their phone
Thank you for posting the file, life got in the way yesterday. Hope that fixes your situation!

The zip won't work in CWM because it's not designed for use with CWM. It's designed for use in Fastboot. Should be on the root of your sd card. From off, if I'm correct (like this with other HTC devices), hold volume down and power to boot into fastboot. This will allow it to flash the stock recovery.

[Q] Cant get past setup accounts

Hi....
Rooted my phone. Stock 2.3.4. Installed Rom Toolkit Pro. Froze some apps I thought I didnt need and I guess that included the contacts.apk and odex. Thought I had found them and installed them in the system/app but I was wrong. Went back into toolkit and saw a bunch of new system apps in Spanish and some other things in odd code. Decided to do a factory reset which I am now realizing was a bad idea. Now I boot the phone and all is pretty normal until I get to Add Accounts in the set up. Com.motorola.setup keeps fcing and i cant get past it. I jist need my phone back to functioning order. I cant use the market bit can look and replying to INcoming texts. My bf bought me this phone and he os ready to rip my head off. Any any help is appreciated.
More info
I can interact with the phone via voice command/search but have no access to apps or launcher. At this rate I dont care aboit root or anything...would downloading a copy of a stock rom and doing install update by sd calrd via android recovery work?
If your bootloader is locked install bootstrap recovery then in bootstrap recovery format system, data and cache then boot the phone into rsd lite protocol and flash one of the sbf's through rsd lite to return to stock. You will loose root but thats easy enough to get back.
Flashing a stock rom through bootstrap should also do the trick just remember to format the system data and cache partitions before flashing for best results.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA
Not sure how to do that if I cant interact with my launcher, homescreen, etc. Thanks for the add'l info.
Then you may have to unlock your bootloader and do it through cwm.

you can try restoring your system because that's all that's messed up. i've had a couple people try my system restore method and it worked. one has reported a failed to boot 4... you can alternatively try the sbf restore. both are shown on my site here http://www.motosunfire.com/system/ be sure to restore your backup (which you should have one) if you get it booted from the system restore.
thanks for replying

it shouldn't hurt because it's only restoring the system files. you can either do that or flash the Electrify SBF, but then you need to do a bunch of other steps to restore your phone. so it's up to you. i've had a few have success with my system restore method. one failure. i don't see it bricking the device in any way. it's as safe as it gets
ok
ok, I've done what you've written in your website
