Q: How is signal quality with AOSP-based roms (comparison to GS3) - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hey Guys,
I have a Vzw GS3. I live in a 'fringe area', signal wise, so I've never been able to use any of the AOSP roms available for the phone. From what I understand it has to do with Samsung not releasing the modem drivers and people having to reverse engineer them to get it to work.
Was wondering how the GS4 compares...if it's the same story or..?
Anyway, input would be appreciated. I'd like to get the phone, but I'm tired of Touchwiz.
Thanks!
damon

Nothing, eh?

There was a thread here yesterday that I can't find back.... It said no issues on aosp roms concerning data..... Same speed and signal as touchwiz.

I haven't noticed any signal segregation at all since I've I wiped out touchwiz and installed a cm nightly

[Q] TSM Resurrection Digital Roaming

Hey everyone, I have browsed this forum and the web quite a bit and could not find a yes/no answer to this question. I installed TSM's Resurrection v1.0 a couple of days ago and under setting/about phone/status under "Network" it says Digital Roaming. I noticed under the developers thread for this ROM it was discussed in the status/pull-down bar that it was not a problem and I just wanted to confirm that it was not an issue under the Network tab.
Since GB was never an official release for Samsung Fascinate, every GB rom has been ported from other phones. Mostly the other Samsung phones. So Digital Roaming is common. Nothing wrong with seeing it.

[Q] My new Samsung galaxy S2 SGH-I777

Hello all
First of all im not good english because my main language is italian anyway:
Im new i receiv this phone for a fews weeks ago my father gave me as gift from china.
Im using cyanogen mod 7 and i have kernel like 2.6.35.7-gedb93be [email protected] #1
The question is this: How i can update firmware automatic without doing so complicate and easy way to do??
I heard most people use SGH-I9100 and update with program Samsung Kies easy.
Well for this SGH-I777 cannot use kies and doesnt work either.
Any suggestion? Maybe a nice alternative for update in future?
Hope this information help a bit
Thank for support!
Alan
I'm pretty sure that's only possible if you have rom manager pro ...sort of , I'm pretty sure if you want to update you have to download and flash the update
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
Kies + cm7 would never work anyway. Cm7 is an aosp rom and kies only works with Samsung builds.
Sent from my HTC PH39100
If you are trying to update CM7 to newer builds you can use rom manager paid app and have access to it. OR you can also download the newer CM7 updates from here http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=galaxys2att
If you are wanting to upgrade the stock samsung firmware then you will need to go back to stock samsung rom for kies to work I think.

Thanks for all guys i paid premium rom manager and there seems all ok!
Remain only a problem about NFC when i go setting wireless + NFC its show me grey out why? doesnt work?
NFC is not enabled yet on the AT&T version of this phone. Some developers have made progress in getting the phone to recognize the NFC chip, but no one has been able to enable full functionality of NFC.
Oh so i have to wait for next update version cyanogen mod for fix this problem? I hope so because need a lot nfc :s! thanks for quick reply u guys are great

Right now, NFC working in CM7 is still quite a ways away... I have only succeeded in partial functionality with official Samsung firmware.
The problem is that the AOSP/CM7 Nfc.apk does NOT like our stock device's JNI libraries (crashfest) - but using the Nexus S JNI libs causes the behavior you describe.
Aosp? Ehm well im a noob lol i dont understand at all about technology especial telephone instead computer antway i try to learn as quick as i can :/

Learning
I hear you, man. After the last few years with iPhones, I am learning a ton since coming here.
AOSP is Android Open Source Project. It is often used to mean plain android without any 3rd party changes like HTC sense or Samsung TouchWiz.
Cyanogen builds their ROMs straight from AOSP. Other devs start with already modified versions. For example UnNamed and Serindipity are built off of the Samsung modified android that came on our phones.

Lol now understand clear thank a lot! Too bad that i couldnt use nfc right now....i wonderf when can be able to enable? :S any clues?

Rule number one of Cyanogen Mod is do not ask for dates. I would say that applies here too. Even if the devs can get NFC to work it is very unlikely we will be able to use google wallet, which is the big draw for a lot of people.

I knew some of what you were talking about, but I am a little unclear about the link between AOSP and stock Android. They don't actually put out anything that is usable by average consumers, right? Their output is solely for the dev community?

My New rooted phone
Hello, I am a newbie to this whole rooting thing. I just had my phone rooted with UnNamed ROM v2.2.1 so far the phone has been really fast and smooth. Its a nice clean setup. The big question is, now what? What should be my next step? Nothing big since I`m still learning. Maybe a theme? I not sure. Thanks for any input. Have a great night.
Do whatever you feel like doing, or leave it as it is if it works for you. That's the beauty of Android, you always have choices. Enjoy your phone, it's a beast.

I went through the same thing... it appears as if none of the ICS roms support LTE..
If you are in need of your mobile data because you are on contract with Verizon there is NO ROM that you can use. At best all you can do is root it, install pershoot's kernel and customize manually. Those of us on contact are all in the same boat, many for nearly a year now waiting for ICS drivers that support the modem. If you don't need the modem then use one of the CM9 or AOKP ones that specify vzw.
Even after drivers are oficially released dont expect a lot in terms of custom ROM support for the SCH-i905 though, there simply arent any developers building for it. AOKP should be all we need though when drivers do come.

Op... You don't get Hubs... You build it yourself...

As for hubs, in my opinion they are more trouble than they are worth since creating them requires multiple widgets and customizations that ultimately take more memory and cause more lag. To each their own. Its fun to tinker and I did dabble a bit into trying to create my own but decided agaist it after wanting to slit my wrists rather than deal with minimalistic text's awful settings UI a moment longer LOL. Props to those with the time and patience to do it, I lack both.
Sent from my SCH-I905 using Tapatalk 2
Thank you all, That answers everything. Hubs do seem like a ungodly amount of work. So I will be making my own approach at customization. Who knows what Ill end up with. And I am on contract and use my mobile data all the time. So its a necessity for me.

that is a very disappointing thing.. I really wish the device more closely resembled the other units.. but oh well.. its still a good tablet.
Agreed, for me this is a race between the release of ICS for this tablet or another LTE tablet on Verizon with ICS on it being released but with better hardware. would love to see the transformer infinity get LTE.

Verizon Galaxy Note II Development...

I’ve been curious as to why development and rom builds have been so slow to come to the Verizon Galaxy Note II? I look at other carriers and see that they have a more extensive collection of ROMS available and was wondering why?
The reason for thisi is our devs have currently been working out keeping unlocked bootloaders on the latest update for some unfortunate people, And we are just getting started with the roms. FOr the best roms, let the devs work on their own pace.
Ill take quality over quantity any day

I would have to agree. I've been using Clean ROM because I love the 5x6 Launcher. Thanks for the heads up though. I have been tied to the fourms every day just browsing waiting for new ROM releases.

From past experience, I've had a phone with many roms but most of them had their share of bugs which drove me away. I have used Scott's roms before the note 2 and his attention to detail and simplicity is unsurpassed, we are very fortunate to have him. We also are lucky to have CM builds pumping out as my former device waited over a year for just the beta.

Really most OTA ROMS are not all that different.. Sure some have more options etc.. The real fun comes when AOSP is stable..
We just got official CM nightly's as of yesterday.. While there are a few things to work out with kinks here and there, the real fun has just begun...

It will only improve. Verizon was late to the party with their variant and locked out the bootloader. Nobody is going to develop much on a device with locked bootloader. Also, it is true that devs have been busy helping us noobs.
I didn't think development would even be this fast. This is the best phone on the best carrier, so I assume development will continue. I am sure many people have a GS3 already, so won't be moving to this platform.
Speed up development by donating to a dev.

Didn't someone just release a mod that a allows cross carrier roms?! Not to mention aosp is finally getting solid. Patience is a virtue, things are taking off.
I personally think the development on this device has been great. Better than I expected really, given the way Verizon tried to chase away users from this device with stupid things like the branding on the home button. At the end of the day I'm just happy with what we have. Could have been a lot worse without Adam.
If your that bored flash some N7105 base roms. Just don't derp and flash the radios for the other carriers. I am running SkyNote right now.

I think one of the reason why is lack of stock functionality. The varieties of AOKP, Baked, CM, AOSP, Miui roms have been extremely popular and successful on other Google devices(varieties of these roms account for more than 50% of entire roms), but apparently not many people demand those roms on Galaxy Note2 because of lack of stock functionality...such as SPen, page buddy, other good motion functions, and etc, etc. I used to be a huge fan of AOKP roms while I was owning Galaxy Nexus, but after switching to GNote2, I never looked back. I wanted more of Samsung experience rather than Google.

I agree with this. I want to keep most of the stock functionality with the ability to mod. Hence why I love beans rom.

Please recommend a TouchWiz ROM

I need a reliable TouchWiz ROM for my note 1 that is reliable and debloated. I don't want my boss to know I removed the AT&T crap and that Cyanogen Mod 10.1 on this phone is flaky

Padawan JB is by far the most popular. To be honest though, all the TouchWiz ROMs here are debloated, so it's a matter of preference.

Well if this is a office/work/agency type issued device, then you should leave as is....as with my agency they track my device.
But to answer your question Here and as stated they are all good to go, it's what meets your needs, and that would be for you to figure out. Thanks.
