[Q] Fixes don't work: Error retrieving information from server. [RPC:S-5:AEC-0] - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can't post link. Its a message screen at the center of the screen showing exactly this message: "Error retrieving information from server. [RPC:S-5:AEC-0]".
When this problem happens, the page doesn't load the images (I checked this a few times)
-When I try to view apps: for example, when I'm browsing apps with the google play app, that error appears, and when I press ok, it returns to the previous page. Trying to open any app anywhere ("people also downloaded", link from another app or webpage to google play app) causes this.
-This happens about 75% of the times. I have to try again few times, and sometimes the error doesn't appear.
-Wifi or mobile data, doesn't matter.
-Happened on my Huawei ideos x5 and still happening on my Samsung galaxy s3.
-This doesn't happen when downloading apps. It has never happened in that situation.
-Happened when I tried to do an in app purchase. Aftter putting password, it said that card not valid. With second try it worked.
-I have tried many times clearing caches/datas of google play and the framework thing, rebooting after but didn't help.
-I have cleared cache in recovery too, with no success.
-I have removed and replaced google account, didn't help. (at the same time with the 2 previous operations)
-I have installed new google play versions.
This seems to be account dependent problem. I haven't found a working solution yet.
EDIT: Plot twist: Now I ALSO get the more common problem that happens when trying to DOWNLOAD apps. "...could not be downloaded due to an error. (Error retrieving information from server. [RPC:S-5:AEC-0])". Then I did the data/cache clears to google play and services framework, rebooted and then tried to download. "Error retrieving information from server. [RPC:S-5:AEC-0]" to NOTIFICATION bar. Then google play app froze and now when i try to download, I get the "...could not be downloaded due to an error. (Error retrieving information from server. [RPC:S-5:AEC-0])" Message in the google play app.

3) Locate "Google Play" & select clear data
4) reboot your device.

Still not working.

Here's the fix...
Go into Google Play. Go to settings. Go to content filtering. Uncheck all the boxes except for 'Everything.' It may ask you to create (or enter) a password. Do it. Back out of the settings. Go back into settings. Go to content filtering. Check all boxes. Cross your fingers. Apps should now download and update.
Good luck and post your results with this post quoted in your reply if it worked for you.

I'm having the same problem as OP, and registered just so I could post this. I followed your instructions, and now I can't install anything because of filter restrictions, even though I set it to let me download everything again.

Maybe I should mention that I first followed the instructions posted in here with the framework services clear data and all. Not sure if that is part of what made mine suddenly work or not.
The problems began for me when I got the 4.3 update.
This was the little tweak I made that got me updating and downloading again. Sorry if it doesn't work for you.

Just remove you're account and sign in again

I am having the same problem too. This started when I updated to 4.3 on my Nexus 4 phone. Except I get an error code of "7" instead of "5" when purchasing a paid app, and a "5" when I try to download or update an app. Very frustrating!

[Solved] error 921 google Play

Hi there
Lately i have a error 921 at Google play. Cannot Update or download from the market.
I tried everything i found here (i think) on xda forums
Clear cache and date from google play app, clear data from Google service framework, rebooted, But no.
I also did a factory reset from settings, added my account back on, but same error. Error 921.
I also added another google account, same error 921 :-/
Does someone has a solution to this?
What rom?

No Luck. I contacted google support, so hopefully they can help.
I cleared cache, dalvik, factory reset from cwm and more.. no luck. All downloads hangs for a long time, then error 921
I also followed this: http://allaboutregistry.blogspot.com/2012/04/how-to-fix-android-error-921.html No luck
Update: It works on Mobile data, as in 3g. Not wifi. But since i do not have a good dataplan, i need the google play to work on WiFi. Suggestions?
This worked for me after restoring settings after changing roms, but it seems "too easy" compared to what you've already done.. eiher way, you may try it...
Go to you System Settings -> Accounts & Sync -> go to your google account and remove it. Then open your Play Store App and add the account from there.

No success for me doing that way. Says "cannot remove account".
So i did a factory reset in CWM, added account and started all over. still no success. Strange error.
Also added transparent proxy to see if it worked. But no.
But over 3G it works. over WIFI not.

Another possibility:
have you tried to unmount your sdcard in the Systems -> Storage menu and then try to install any app?
oh, and is you Google Play version 3.5.15?
Like the resources very much... Thanks for sharing.

Still i think my IP was blocked from D/L from market and the support ticket to google solved it...

[Q] Play Store stopped working

All of a sudden Google Play Store stopped working. When I try to start it up, I get a screen "Authentication is required. You need to sign into your Google Account." and a [Retry] button. When I press the button, I get the same screen again.
I've checked that there's no firewall, my Google Account is working (checked from the PC), I've cleaned the Play Store data, all to no avail. I tried removing the account but that is not allowed, I need to do a factory reset for that -- something that I'm not particularly looking forward to.
Any idea what is going wrong and how I can recover?

im not sure if u can, but if u installed the market using the froyo gapps installer in a thread from here you should be able to go to settings->applications->manage apps and find play store and click on it and downgrade, a button where uninstall would normally be, also u could tell me ur device and android version and where u installed gpps from, thatd really help me at helping you out

Actually, I have the feeling that Market (and Play) try to start some authentication service, that fails or is missing.

hmm............try using the program u used to install market again, but first try after uninstalling updates to clear cache and data for google services framework and market, and also try to force stop them, otherwise try to reuse the app u used to install market
I removed the google apps and reinstalled them (several times, several ways). Finally success after reinstall using ArcTools. Now I can start Google Play. I asks me to create an account and it seems to work again.
Thanks for the assistance!
Again, I lost Google Play. Same symptoms: it says I need to sign in or create an account first, but doesn't give me the opportunity to do so.
I removed everything Google related. Re-installed Market (using ArcTools) but Market just doesn't get installed. Similar when trying to install Play using ArcTools: all tools get installed but there's no Play.
When restoring Market or Play from backup I have the same problems decribed in the beginning of the message.
Really puzzling - and frustrating.

Google Play Services app issue...

Downloaded the new YouTube update today. Opened it. I get a pop-up stating I don't have Google Play services installed on my phone and its needed to run the app (or at least sign in).
So I go to download it... It downloads, starts installing and then I get an error message saying "incompatible with other applications using the same shared ID"
Anyone else having this issue? I'm at a loss...
Getting this same error on my iconia a500. Any ideas how to fix this?
Luckily I titanium'd recently so I was able to roll back but I want to upgrade and this is annoying the crap out of me.
Updated the error message
Argh... Tried a fresh install and still an issue... Wife is having the same issue
Are you guys running custom ROMs? What type? Stock based? Custom kernel? ASOP?

I have the exact same problem. I updated the YouTube app from Google Play last night. When I opened it, a message displayed saying that I needed to install Google Play Services. When I tried to install it, I got the same error message as you.
I tried doing a factory reset and then attempted to install Google Play Services before I restored any apps, but no luck.
I'm not running any custom ROMs. I'm running the stock version of Android (4.0.3) that came with my iDeaUSA YG A777 tablet. I don't have any custom kernels, either.

Running Vigor 360. Problem didn't show up until latest YouTube update. It seems others on Nils business sense are having issue too.
people with this problem can you please check something for me.
go to settings > apps "all tab" and look for google services framework\
if this is here: clear data, then reboot.
No go. Found it, cleared data, rebooted
Went into market, updated YouTube. Opened it, get the pop-up saying Google Play services needs to be installed, hit ok, takes me to the market to install it. It downloads, goes to install them I get the incompatible error.
This sucks :/

thank god for titanium backup, restoring things so easily.
I had this problem running Nils Business ICS 3.6, flashed Rezone Redux last night.....now everything plays happily.
Yeah, I'm starting to think its a issue with a certain type of sock-based custom ROM.....
I think it has something to do with ROMs that already have services installed. I am checking it out.

A solution to this problem that worked for me was found on another Android forum.
Because I'm new to this forum, I'm not allowed to post links. So, if you put "Google Play services won't install" into Google (with the quotes), then it should be the first page that comes up.
PM me the link. I'll post it.
I'm also having the same problem. I've installed custom rom jellyblast.

How to fix: Can't establish a reliable connection to the server

Yesterday i flashed new kernel and the google play did the "No connection" error.
I tried many options excluding factory reset, it was the last option to try.
I tried clear data and catch of the play store and the google play services and it didn't fix it.
I tried to fix permission in the recovery, to remove the google account and when I tried to enter the account again, the phone shows me the error: "Can't establish a reliable connection to the server".
I tested many fixes that I saw on the internet but again WITHOUT FACTORY RESET.
I tried many things myself, and wow!! I tried to find an option how to fix it!!!
I decided to show you the option!
Let's start!
1. When the message appears ( ^^up to this^^ ) click on the next button.
2. Now if you will click on the log in button, it will show you the error again. So click on the register button. Enter any details you want, it will not help you in the future. Now when you finish to enter the details, go to the google play, it's will works now!!
3. Now go to the settings app, and remove the account you added last minute.
4. Press on the add account bottom and click on the google icon. Now you can add your google account without any error!!!
Enjoy !!

After it to do a reboot and that's it.

I had this same error the other day.it happens because play store thinks your account sharing. instead of using phone to download something go to play store and send it to your phone after you do that once you will be able to install apps with your phone again. The some big long ways to fox this but you will have to search google for them if the simplest way doesnt work,
Error 491
I tried the short way to fix the error by trying to download from Google play store on my computer. No luck. gives me the same error. message. My phone is rooted but still can't do much with it. This is really frustrating. can someone please help.

Hey to all of you still having problems with this error. After playing around with it I discovered I had to go into Google settings and turn on location access, and I also turned on "allow remote lock and factory reset" in the device manager tab. That seemed to do the trick. Hope this helps.
