Some people have it working on the original Note using Chainfires plugins but last time I checked they didn't work on JB.
That being said some people have said they got it from the Samsung App Store, whether or not that's true I don't know. I don't know it shows up for me on the Samsung App Store app.

I've tried the samsung store version with no luck. I remembered it loaded but something was off... I think it was the graphics dimensions and colors but I dont remember. Also needs to run on Jelly Bean unless someone can refer me to a tut or rom on ICS which I rather not do. I defiantly would like to stay on JB. I know it works on GNI through Chainfire ICS lol

There is no way to go to ICS unless someone makes a ROM which they won't do most likely.
The only way to get it to work will be if Chainfire updates his mods, which he said he had no intention of doing, or they port it to our phone.
I'm waiting for Rigonauts and the devs of that are real assholes.

Chainfire is in such demand. It doesn't even have to be free. I'll pay $10-15 for an app like this. I'm sure other DEVs can take over the project. If I knew where to start I'd do it my self. Within the last 2 months I've learned to make my own roms edit apks and flashable mods. I don't know that much about programming. Just web languages. HTML CSS PHP and a Little Java. Admins/devs enlighten me please I'm willing to learn and do the work myself. Maybe some help but you guys get the picture I'm willing to put forth effort.

Chainfires app shouldn't have to be completely rewritten, I don't think, just updated enough to work with 4.2. Maybe you should post in the Android Development thread and ask there. The general one for all android, not the one for a single device.

ICS custom ROMs timeline?

Specifically a question for developers:
So I'm just curious when do you guys think an ICS custom ROM might be available for our vibrants?
More specifically, has google released enough of the SDK and/or ICS code for someone to actually make a working ICS ROM?
Can't wait to see it in action!
Thanks
Edit: my question really is:
what requirements do developers need to start working on a custom ROM when a new OS is released?

I have ICS on my vibrant now. Real easy to jsut compile your own from the sdk and flash.
Can't get gps working though.
3-4 Months until you have something usable. That is provided the Vibrant still has developers left to work on it. A lot of ppl switched.

[email protected] easy! Anyone anywhere who had working ics on a phone would be on every forum bragging till their head pops off..
There are hundreds of articles that say that google is releasing the source code once "it is officially on devices".
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2395048,00.asp
How long will it take them to have a working rom is another question. The gps issue we have with gingerbread has never been actually fixed, I think it is a driver issue..?
Either way, it all depends, but it IS a valid question once the source is released, until then people are just going to flame your thread.

And regardless if this is a question about development for developers, it's still the wrong section. That is why we have a "Q&A" section for future development or whatever.

First of all, it's still a question, regardless of the content, unless there is a specific development thread about ics, this question belongs in the q&a section, you're not someone special where the rules don't apply.
Secondly, since source for ics hasn't even been released yet (this is the vibrant, so some sdk port won't ever work, regardless of your secret hopes and dreams), and even then, it's gonna take people a bit to get situated with the new code, and get used to the new features, apis, and bugs.
To ask for a timeline for something that's not even out into phones that it's actually built for is kinda insulting to people IMHO.
But, I give it 2-3 months after source drop to get into a basic useable form on the vibrant.

First, I never said you demanded a a timeline, I said you asked. And the hopes and dreams thing wasn't directly at you, it was directed at all the people who don't finish reading a sentence, and only tale from a sentence what they want and twist everything around (and also takes cares of the stupid "one can hope" comments).

Slatedroid.com has a pretty active pandigital Modding community. They don't currently have a specific section for the star, but if you search for it you'll find discussion of the device and there are tools there made for similar pandigital devices that seem to work on the star. Good luck!
Thanks for the help both of you and yes I like it very much. And I am a developer and not at all new to android systems. Also I didnt expect anyone to be working on it at all even I was just asking.

WTF is so sacred about the Android OS?

I am an apple convert, go ahead fanboys, flame me all you want. I am a tech geek and I try everything out. I want to learn and I want to play around with the toys that I buy.
I have fiddled with the SDK and the SDE. The company I work for built an Android device for military use, so I know a little about the processes used in hacking and development.
The thing I want to know is WHY is it in just about every thread I read, there is an assumption that everyone automatically KNOWS how to install a rom or kernel or anything else of that nature.
Go to the Aroma installer thread for example. There is a comment from the developer that states "Do not ask how to install Aroma. If you have to ask then you don't know what it's for". Well, bull****. I want to install a custom rom on my phone that utilizes the Aroma installer, but i cannot find any instructions or documentation on how to install Aroma. I can find all sorts of examples on how to use it, but not how to install it.
Now I created a theme way back when for the G1, I previously owned the Thunderbolt and have installed roms on it. But each device is different. Why is it so hard to make a post to help out the new guy?
I am sorry for the rant, and if the devs want to delete this post, then please do so. But I am frustrated to hell with the android community spouting how much better they are than anybody else. It;'s like some damn good ole boys club from redneck USA. Why not help spur on the community and share the knowledge?
because dear sir there are a lot of android forums out there, but this is a mobile phone and tablet development forum,, with rules that you need to read, and a journey of learning you need to take,, this involves reading and searching and accumulating knowledge, a far cry from having Apple sauce wiped from your chin
And yes,the journey is mentioned in the forum rules. Welcome to the world of free people

First u don't install aroma its a installer. U flash a aroma Rom the same as any other. It just guides you thru the install. Depending on the dev it has options to pick thru durning install. Like auto removing built in apps or installing a theme. It's just a installer.

I am trying to install the Dragon ICS rom, but it uses Aroma which I have no experience with.
I guess trial and error is not the best way to go with these things. I finally figured out how to get Aroma installed via the Clockwork recovery, and then went on to install Dragon ICS, the kernel failed, not the device will not turn on.... oh well...
Back to the drawing board I guess, Thanks anyway...
To me what matters is people who are smart enough to understand a phone OS usually pick Android, I mean just because Westlife outsell the Beatles does that really make them better? No it just means they more popular because of the image in the same way reality show acts are guaranteed a number 1.

The last time I checked, XDA was a DEVELOPMENT forum; not an Android forum. There are plenty of iOS dev threads on XDA. Go troll somewhere else!
As for the OP, AROMA should do all the work for you. Just flash the ROM that uses it, and follow the setup.

On a serious note, I'm beginning to understand the OP rant on this topic..
He has asked for assistance.. you can either contribute to making another well-rounded Android user or just ignore it all together. Chiming in with useless insults is what has now made yet another thread pointless and has now made 1000000000001 threads on this topic that still offer little to no clear assistance.
So again, I will ask, please go troll elsewhere.

You don't have to do anything except flashing the Rom like usual.
The installer is shipped within the rom.zip.
The only difference is that you get an interface after you accepted to flash the rom, which let's you choose which parts/mods you want to apply.
I guess you modified the rom.zip, because you told "you got it installed", reflash the unmodified Rom and just follow the on screen instructions.

NEW Protos/Something about XDA and the users

So, YES I'M FD1999
And this isn't a attempt to come back. I'll just help my friend. I don't care if you ban me again.
So I saw that paul.n posted a thread about Protos. WHAT THE HELL IS THE PROBLEM?!? I don't see any problems!!! He posted that only to show that you. But no somebody must come and report that. If I remember right, Arjen is linking to the Google Code page (ICS Weeklies). And what's the problem when paul.n is posting a link to that forum? I don't see any rule, XDA! Define your rules, or don't open a forum! And cornelha, I have permissions to use some work here. It's open-source. Proper credits are given. Links, too. And modifications on those work are bigger than 75%. So read some threads and you'll read something awesome with 'proper credits... links' If you still don't get it, then I recommend you to go to school.
I WRITE WHAT I WANT:
If you still want PROTOS go here:

- no data... it attempts to run but unsuccessful
- unable to change sounds (ie ringtone, notification) ... likely need a folder created on sdcard and store miui tones inside to work ... temp fix: use edge app to set different ringtone etc
- user agent for browser thinks its a desktop but doesn't load mobile layout for device ... temp fix: menu > advanced > user agent > change android to iphone
- themes app fc but works by accessing through the menu

A mod can remove this thread if there's a concern otherwise I'll remove once the dev makes a post. Nevertheless, the dev made it public posting it on dev-host for all.
p.s. - I agree with you, but you must also understand this is open source code and XDA is a community driven site and we should share with another to make our devices the absolute best that they can be. One should be concerned if one is taking ownership for someone else's work or turning a profit, in the mean time you can rest assure your statement is valued.

We do have a policy (XDA Rule 12) and it does not cover reposting anything you might find. It doesn't matter if it is for profit or not, if it is their work then they get to dictate whether to allow others to re-share it. Open source code does not mean free rein to do anything you wish with the code. I agree that it would be nice if everyone freely offered all of their work on XDA, but that seems pretty unlikely and unenforceable anyways.
Now, given that this ROM does not appear to have come from someone registered here on XDA, at least not with his dev-host username, I won't take it down unless contacted. I will move it to General though as it isn't your work.
