[Q] NFC Tag on wireless charger - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Just got the Samsung wireless charger and stuck a nfc sticker on it and it will not read it even when I switched nfc to always be on (even with screen off) any ideas how I can get it to work?

Do you mean the OEM one or one of the inserts? Many (most?) of the inserts block (or at least hamper) NFC. I have the OEM back and I think it works BETTER than the battery antenna. I used it at the cafeteria at work and it picked up from about a 1/2 inch away through a case.
Edit: also, there is a massive thread in the accessories section (wireless chargers and cases) that discusses this ad nauseum.

The OEM back from Verizon. I am talking about physically putting the nfc sticker on the charger itself. It scans fine when not on charger but I stuck it on the charger and it doesnt read :S

There's a related threads on this here:

and here:

The consensus is that it probably won't work without doing some kind of modification with cases.

[Q] How do you charge the Gtab?

I have tried to re-charge my gtab but for some reason when I plug it in to my wall's outlet, it does not charge at all. Either mine is defective or I am doing something wrong.

Did you try connecting to other wall outlet? If yes, and still not working for Gtab 10.1, but work for other devices, you might need to exchange your tab for the new one.
Mine works fine without any issues. And I don't think there's any special way to connect the power adapter. The connector can hook up to your Gtab only in one direction (Samsung logo facing up towards the screen).
I asked Steve Jobs and he says your doing it wrong.
But just in case. Have you tried multiple outlets. The charging while on/off. loose connection. I know it all sounds stupid but you have to rule out the obvious before you think there's an issue. So far as I'm aware you're the first person that has an issue just charging his tab on here.

Yes, there's no other outlet in my house that does any different whether my Gtab is on/off. It looks like mine is defective and I'm going to have to make a trip back to Best Buy. Thanks for the help.

I too had this feeling that there's an issue. After complete discharge, it takes about five mins of charging for the gtab to even display the charging symbol.

New Charging Port - Still not charging!

Just replaced the charging port on my ATT SGII i777. Still not charging. Any ideas on what to try next?
The charge port I bought was for a i9100 but I was under the impression that they were interchangeable:
I've tried several chargers so I'm pretty sure it is not the charger,

Cable? Have you tried a different charging cable?I know it sounds ridiculous but I remember someone posting that fixed their issue.

Yes. Charger and cables. tried like 4 different one including two samsung ones.. I also plugged it into the computer and it is not detected at all.
After my original post, I noticed that my cellular service wasn't working either. Cleaned up the old port with a good dose of rubbing alcohol and a soft toothbrush and put it back in. Charger still not working but the cell service is back.
The markings on both boards say GT-i9100 and rev2.2 but the original says R.B82 and the replacement says says R.B84. I doubt that means anything.
Any other ideas or testing to do? Luckily I ordered an external charger and extra battery so I am not dead in the water.
Just a quick update - I bought several other charging ports before I finally found one that works. The one that worked was on ebay from muchbuy-outlet. I emailed them prior to purchasing. They said it would work and it did. Here is the link will expire at some point...

I tried this one from ebay and it did not work (can't post link so it's ebay item # 330880743336
Im thinking of trying the one you linked. Could I ask when you bought your GS2? I got mine about a mnth after it came out. If you got yours at the same time maybe ill take the risk of buying another board.

you know, I didnt use my i777 for 6 months, and I went to charge it and it wouldnt charge... It would just sit there with the captivate lights blinking rapidly like it wanted to start, and didnt... Long story short, I took the battery out of my i777 and used my t989 as a temporary charger just to get some juice in there (to about 10 %) and switched it back to the i777 and the i777 charged it no problem after that. I think there could be an issue with the i777 firmware which doesnt charge a battery that has gone to complete dead.
I have no issues charging or connecting to adb now

It is because the usb port that we have on our phone is not that great. Before I got my port fixed by Samsung, it would not be able to charge an empty battery, but now it is fine. Although sometime when the battery get too hot, it just through the phone in a loop of charging just enough to boot then shut down again.
You need I9100 gt model Rev 2.3 to replace sgh i777 At&t usb flex cable.
I just changed mine. Mine was rev 2.3. I got mine ebay at the "Cellphone-Repair-Shop" Search for "usb flex cable i9100 gt" model. It has to be the Gt model and it has to be The rev 2.3. So ask your seller before you buy. I believe the cellphone repair shop only sells 2.3.
I did put the Non-GT model in first because I read several reviews that it would work if I bought it from a specific store. This turned out to be a misplacement of many reviews. I am returning that one tomorrow. The wrong one charged for a day. Then nothing... and it caused all kinds of reception problems. Pretty much made phone useless.
Now with the Gt model in, when I connect to computer (wouldn't work before) it reads in explorer that this is a i9100 gt model phone. I do believe it is the new usb port that causes this to be read as a Gt i9100 and not the warning screen caused by rooting.
I wonder if this will cause any problems when flashing roms or anything else like otg usb mounting.

Bud,
When I plug in my charger the charging circuit goes on and off. I have a tone that dings once (or makes a "BEDUP' sound) indicating the charger is charging and it sounds like a bell indicating that the charger circuit connects and disconnect even before the BEDUP sound can fully complete! LOL Well instead of just one 'bedup' sound it bedups then bedups again! and again etc. The actual indicator on the battery icon goes on then off in sync to the bedups. I suspect its the dock connector charging port but am not positive. I have two I777's; the second one charges fine with the same usb cable so the cable is ruled out. I also had trouble using ODIN and getting my drivers to load in windows "Intermittently", but only on the SUSPECT I777.
Sometimes I can get it to charge by holding the USB cable either pressed upward or downward but it I change pressure at all it will go out.
Were the actual metal strips on your dock connector worn out? That is what I am thinking my issue is. If so It will require another charging port.
After reading your post an reevaluating my issues I am even more sure it is the charging port, but would appreciate any input you may have about your experience!
Thanks for your input!

Hey, thanks for the info.
My i777 device has the same issue. But the item in the above link does not ship to my country.
So I checked on ebay for another S2 REV 2.3 usb flex cable and found this.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140959296482
But in the cable you have bought it says "R.CB4 28 GT-I9100 REV2.4" and on my selected cable it says "R.CA4 GT-I9100 REV2.4"
Is that a big difference or should I not worry about it?
Thanks!

Sorry I missed this but anyone having this issue should first try cleaning the port with a small brush (soft toothbrush or I used these: http://www.dentek.com/product/144/easy-brush-cleaners/) dipped in isopropyl alcohol. That may help (or not). If that doesn't solve the problem, you are going to need to swap out the charging port. -- Bud

[Q] Problem with wireless charging.

I have had my G3 for two weeks now and am very happy with it. I dumped my Droid 3, so as you can imagine, it's a huge leap in technology and power to go from the Droid 3 to a G3. I decided I wanted to start doing wireless charging as I saw several others in other forums talking about their shells getting cracked or damaged from excessive force needed to insert the usb cable to charge the phone. It does seem like it could eventually lead to some heavy wear and tear.
So I did some research and a lot of reading, and purchased the following charger and back cover and I can't get wireless charging to work at all. The reviews on the charger appear to be very positive and according to the description on EBAY, the back cover will work on the Verizon G3. The pins appear to line up correctly and I have tried moving the phone all over the mat but no luck. Could one of the apps I have frozen in Titanium Backup be preventing this from working? I basically only froze the crapware stuff. Is there a setting somewhere that needs to be configured? I have an email out to the EBAY person I bought the cover from but have not gotten a response yet. Ideas? Suggestions?

Does your new cover have 4 pins space correctly? I know in the past, some vendors from ebay were sending out only the NFC cases on accident and calling them Qi covers.
The charger you got is a knock off of the TYLT charger, so it could possibly be something with that charger too. If you have a Verizon store near by, Id go down and see if they ahve any Qi chargers setup. Each one I have gone into always had at least one so I could test if my things were working.
The new back cover definitely has 4 pins and from the best I can tell, they match up. I will definitely try your Verizon store idea when i can find a store.

[Q] Qi wireless charging for D620(Europe) possible??

hi, I have European version D620 for my girlfriend, incl. a NFC chip, attached to the inside of the back cover. So it has 2 contacts in the phone that connect to that. We do not use NFC at this point, would prefer Qi Wireless charging... would putting in a Qi wireless charger foil connected to those 2 contacts instead of the NFC chip do the trick? Would it be something LG would have need to have built in, or would it be recognized by Android? This D620 has Android 4.4, my Nexus 5 had that too.... Concerning the Nexus 5, hardly anywhere it's mentioned that it is compatible with Qi wireless charging, , but I would not want a phone without it anymore.... (now with the S6 having it standard it will come to life i'm sure!!)
Any technician who would now the answer??
I'm thinking of buying a Samsung NOTE 2 compatible foil for a couple of dollars, put it in and and just give it a try...( I checked for the size, should be able to fit it in easily, hopefully it will not be too thick...
thanks in advance,
Wil
nice idea, but it won't work, i'm pretty sure. charging doesn't work with any two contacts you have on your phone especially if they're designed for something that runs on low power like nfc. it's the same as if you would try to take out the ir blaster diode and use it's two contacts to charge the phone... that's why there is a usb port on the bottom of the phone

[Q] Car mount with fixed USB charger HELP

Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a car dock for my Nexus 6 similar to the pro clip or this fix2car mount http://www.holdersandmounts.co.uk/f...on-mount-dash-mount-with-usb-car-charger.html[1]
Basically my criteria are that I want to be able to take the phone in and out of the mount without having to attach the USB cable after. I want the USB cable to be fixed and the phone simply slides in to it.
The pro clip would cost me 150$+ and the fix2car one I linked would run me close to 70$. I'm looking for something about half that price.
Hope you guys can help!
Thanks
0 replies on XDA and on reddit, something tells me i'm about to drop a hundred bucks on a car mount... AGAIN!
PSA to anyone thinking about it: DO NOT get the airdock 2, it's a piece of poop and the phone falls off constantly.
If you must have the fixed plug, you could hack one in place with some JB Weld. A lot of guys did just that back in the "old" days.
Or suguru, that stuff works great for something like this. BTW, my airdock works great.

If you would like to charge your phone in a car dock without having to attach USB each time why don't you get the QI charging dock? It is about $35-$40 here in US, probably about same in UK. And will work with non-bulky case.

welllllllll the reason why im trying to avoid a QI charging dock (which btw is not a make or model but the technology, can you specify which model you're referring to?) is because i bought this neato quick charge usb lighter thingy and i'd like to be able to use quick charge..... wireless QI charging is pretty slow and when having the screen on, and steaming music, and using maps for nav, it doesn't actually gain any charge!

Well, I am doing the same, streaming and navigating, with Nexus 6 in the dock, using 2.1A USB lighter thingy and it charges.
I am also aware QI is a technology and not a model. There are quite few of those. I am using this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00N4H1R1M?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s01

the problem is that QI will bottleneck your charging. using a quickcharge usb lighter thing will work via a cable but not through QI!
QI will support up to 15 watts of charging in the future, it was actually announced like a couple of weeks ago or something, so future models will support quick charging
I have quick charger at work and at home. In the car I need the dock I can use with minimum effort and without connecting/disconnecting USB frequently

Curious to know if you got the holder yet?
From the pictures on the site, it appears that one of the claws on the top lands directly on the power and/or volume buttons.
Would like to know if it interferes with proper operation?

it can if you have it completely tightened down, but you would not be able to pull the phone in and out if it was tightened down. the way i have it now is the clamp holds on to the lip of the phone but not so tightly that I can't easily put the phone in and out of the dock. The clamp does not press on the buttons, this way.
