Smart IR Remote for S4 taken down, want a refund? (AGAIN) - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Themes and Apps

UPDATE Aug 13: The app has been removed from the playstore AGAIN
UPDATE JULY 31st: The app has been restore in the playstore, it seems as if the dev was not lying and has kept its promise
Well, the app has been taken down. I contacted the gev through email, facebook and G+ and he never answered. Samething happened to a few members so i have taken my issue with the boss (Google) and they were extremely fast to refund me. Literally 10 seconds after I clicked submit issue, they sent an email confirming me my complaint was accepted and the refund has been made. GREAT!!!
I would not request a refund for an app taken down unless i had issue with it, which i did, so because the dev never answered, here is how to do it for yourself if you feel you've been abandoned.
Log into your google account https://play.google.com/store/account and go to "My Orders and Settings"
Look for SmartRemote and hit "Report a problem", then select "I'd like to request a refund" and give them a brief explenation. Also, if the app serves you, please don't do this, do this only if you're having issues that the dev obviously wont repair because he has, as far as i know, abandonned us.

Why was it taken down? Last I checked it was working flawlessly for me...

i'm not sure why, it's really hard to know when the devs cut all communication and doesn't tell anything to anyone. In any case, the apps works fine, just struggles with my specific devices and the dev promised it would be updated to work for my TV and AV but they never did and they stopped emails about 2 weeks ago. So got this refunded and bought TouchSquid which so far works just like i want it too, also it's much more sophisticated and for a limited time it's 12$

What a letdown. It was such a great app!

Does anyone have an apk for it or backup of it on tibu?

i had issues with this app on my s4. after selecting an action, lets say the volume up button, the app would continually trigger the IR, even if i wasnt pressing the volume up button anymore. this was obviously very annoying and required a phone reboot to clear everything up. this happened every time i used the app. the IR would continue flashing after the first button tap.
i've been using samsungs watchON. it took 15 seconds to set up my tv and uverse box and the remote works flawlessly. also, its free. much better remote functionality and layout.

This app pretty much sucks on my S4. A lot of the buttons are useless and when I try to use the center button that is usually associated for "enter" or "ok", it never works ever.
Requested a refund but it said they were unable to give me a refund. Another let down. Bah!

You wont find it here...even though it is now down, it was a paid app and thus uploading would be considered piracy/warez which is against forum rules

had this issue at first, then my real issue, which is still present today is that when i open the app, my blue notification light keeps flashing and drains battery, i have to reboot to fix it.
Also, not sure if im the only one, but the down arrow never works well.

i know what watchon is, its a gimicky, simple app. I want sophistication, macros, shortcuts to the keys i need.

That's strange. The app has always worked great for me. I will continue to use this for the life my S4.

Really I think it might be because it's stupid powerful. I can walk into any store control/cable TV's walk into a bar etc just total havoc. And it don't just work on TVs. Also those that have issues with it still issuing IR commands when it's not on. Disable. Air gestures and the Dynamic Option it will not do that anymore. :good:

Doesnt make sense really as touchsquid allows all the same functions. I mean the watchon app bare minimum allows you to mess with just about most tv's in bars and stores.

[App]Swiftkey is free on Amazon now[outdated]

Grab it now! It's my favorite keyboard.
Amazon appstore users are on a roll.
Thanks for that!

SwiftKey is pretty amazing at word prediction. I barely typed to send this message.
I kinda like it, but the backspacing irritates me that it wont go faster by holding. I understand the swiping back thing to do a word at a time, but that's annoying. Maybe I'm missing something in the settings...
I still prefer the GB keyboard or Swype when driving.

Curse you Amazon!!
Interesting... do you have an Amazon account? I just logged in with my Amazon account and it worked fine. Try signing up on amazon.com first and then try logging in. Maybe Amazon requires a credit card... not sure.
I'm starting to not like the Amazon Appstore. And I'll tell you why.
1st to use apps downloaded from them, it seems you must have a data connection (Angry Birds Rio confirmed, others suspected). ABR drains battery at 2 to 3 times of other AB games, and part of that I think is the connection polling continuously.
2nd I can't seem to remove apps from my download list after I uninstall them, and apps I happen to replace with their Market versions cause Appstore to continuously inform me that they need an update.
3rd Can't shut off update notifications.
I've emailed Amazon, and was told it was forwarded to the Appstore Dev team, but who knows if any of it will actually be addressed
Oh, and SwiftKey won't work for me for some reason, I'm going to try uninstalling and reinstalling it.

Yeah you MUST have a credit card added on your account to download any app... even free ones.
That's a big down for Amazon.
Teens have android too and most teens don't use credit cards.
Loss for Amazon.
And seeing the bugs and things done by Amazon on tthe post above mine... I don't think I'd use it too often I just wanted to try out Rio

That's some interesting observations. May be it's just ABR instead of all other apps but I will try to find out.
I think the download list is also your purchase history. That's why you can't remove them. Amazon should have them as 2 separate lists though.
-----------
You NEED a credit card to register for an Amazon account. It has nothing to do with the app being free or not.

That's why I swype... never even look but briefly. People look at their stereos and mp3 players more than I look at my phone while Swyping.
Your still forgetting its still fairly new. If teens don't have credit cards what's the point of having amazing remove that restriction?
Another thing I don't think the free app a day won't last long. Maximum would be a month.

I was just speaking from living in an area full of 20 something year old girls who text while driving their Escalades.
I'm also curious how long the fee-app-a-day thing goes on.
So you guys think amazon app is a battery drainer huh...well so far I've downloaded swiftkey and that's all, pretty cool looking keyboard, and I must say that it does predict words better than any other keyboard I've ever used.
Well, if it DOES battery drain it's going to be a deal breaker for me...
OP thanks for the info.

I think it might still go on, right now their giving out brand-new-good apps like rio, and swiftkey... right?Their just starting out so they want to attract more users, which its working.
Then it'll go to random apps that no one likes, and people will probably just leave the amazon app on their phone waiting for another free app.
If they did remove the credit-card thing even for free apps, maybe people would still use it, like me.
Does anyone know of any themes or skins for swiftkey? An all black one would be nice.
I also find it a little too tall for my tastes. In 200 dpi, however, it's the perfect height. I have been unable to quickly type on the gingerbread keyboard ports because they are far too short in 200 dpi. I love Swype, don't get me wrong, but I still find myself wanting to type most of the time.

New Market 3.1.3 (3.1.5 is up now too)

Edit, as of October 3, I'd suggest holding off on the 3.1.6 Market update. Could be fishy. It's signed differently than Google does. Mine below are fine.
EDIT: The new market is cool and all, but I have noticed that if I have multiple google accounts, it switches back and forth... which is REALLY annoying. If you notice issues, go to menu > accounts and make sure your primary is selected. Other than this, it is great.
EDIT 2: there is now a 3.1.5 - the bug mentioned above still exists
DOWNLOAD LINK FOR 3.1.5
If you had 3.1.3, it may just auto-update for you.
---------- below is older information for 3.1.3 --------------
You can thank @MastaTM (XDA: Official_Master) for the new Market (3.1.3)
http://www.multiupload.com/41FQ6PQ3MS
The below is litterally pasted from androidpolice (again, they are on point). I bolded what is new.
Wow, Google is on a roll with the Android Market lately. Since the release of Market v3.0, a number of small updates have come to the Android Market recently, but this is by far the biggest yet. Google has added the long-awaited +1 functionality to the Android Market (which has been on the web version of the Market for quite some time), along with a few other goodies.
There's a brand-new settings menu, as well as click-to-read explanations of app permissions (not developer customizable, unfortunately).
There are also 2 brand-new Market icons to spruce things up a bit (within the Market itself - unfortunately, the app drawer icon is still the same).
For convenience's sake, the size in megabytes of each app, along with its latest update date, have been moved from the bottom of descriptions to the top of individual app pages, which is a very useful change in our book.
Moving on to the thumbnail navigator, Google added a long-overdue sliding transition - a nice touch that makes the Market feel more polished.
Oh, and did we mention you can now use an optional custom PIN for purchases on your phone, instead of leaving your Google Checkout wide open for anyone that picks up your device? If you have kids, or your phone is stolen, this is one awesome feature to have - and really, it makes a lot of sense.
You'll need Unknown Sources enabled in the Settings -> Applications menu to install it.

Installing Android Market APK
Could use a little help here. Put a new ROM on my wife's phone, but for some reason, it doesn't have the Market on it. Every time I download the APK for the Market though, it asks me if I want to assign an account to it, which I choose Yes, and then it closes. I'm going to keep working on it, but if anyone has any ideas, please help!

EDIT: nevermind... it does not fix the bug.

2.xx is better. 3.xx is too slow and laggy
Someone in the General apps forum uploaded what they claim is version 3.1.6. I pushed it into system/app and over wrote vending.apk but I still have version 3.1.5. Others are reporting success, though. Saying it looks a little more polished.
Edit: Removed link due to suspicious nature of this "update". Search it out and install it on your own, but I've restored my nandroid backup and am done with it until more is known about it.

Try either clearing data from maps app in app manager (the bigger of the 2 files) or uninstalling and reinstallation of maps. Try the first and see what happens.

First things first, download gps status and see if you get a lock on some satellites and the data at the bottom refreshes, if not let us know.
which cleanROM? Weren't verizon note 2 users having problems with the univeral cleanROM and GPS? If so, I'd try the verizon specific cleanROM
Gps status no luck.. just hangs looking for sat signal. And its the 4.2 version of clean rom based off of international .. im cool with using map quest.. it works great. If you got nothing in GPS status then you have a GPS problem, not a navigation problem. Backup your rom, flash Beans, just get it far enough to download GPS status again, get a lock with all the relevant info at the bottom, then restore back to CR.

Yeah this. Idk how you're getting a maps lock and not a GPS status lock. But you need a solid lock for turn by turn to work. I was simply thinking you had a good lock. I always use GPS status to check lock and then proceed to use the others. What he suggested works. I did it back on clean rom 3.whatever and haven't had an issue since. However I also took Scotts advice and literally wiped everything about my phone when coming from beans. I'm talking Internal and external SD. Backed it up first of course. Somethjng between em doesn't play nice.

It works because maps will use the Cell towers and wifi to lock on alone, but many apps will require a true GPS lock (Ingress and the Nav app come to mind).
You don't have the experience or credentials to be claiming GPS is "broke". I hear this same stupid crap with every phone I get, and it's always someone like you.
It's not a Clean rom nor Note 2 issue. You're obviously doing it wrong. I don't see how some people have so many issues with phones. It's always noobs like you as well. Proof:

Man I understand the frustration...I do but there was a time even you didn't know jack about phones. Yeah maybe he should've searched but he didn't. No need to bash him so hard. Questions are how some people learn. Myself Included. I see so many high and mighty Devs who are too good to help people with problems yet have no problems bashing people. Its like the nerd in school who was a nobody and is now a somebody but with the worst possible attitude.

Pop Up Ads All Over

I have just, in the past couple of days, developed a pretty serious issue with pop-up ads appearing all over the place on my phone. They come in two different ways. 1st is when an ad pops up over the top of another app. This has happened with GO SMS and with the Facebook app for sure. I can't recall what other apps it has happened with, but I don't get the impression that the ad is related to the app I'm in. I've had them pop up on the home screen as well.
Here is an example of a pop-up ad when I opened GO SMS:
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
I also have it happen where I open my browser (I use Chrome) and it will automatically launch a new tab, then the tab will act as a redirect and send me to the Play Store for another app (basically sending me to the download/install page for an app).
I don't recall installing any apps just before this started happening. I believe that my app list is the same before and after this issue, but I'll keep looking. I have not rooted and am using the Nova Pro launcher, if that helps at all.
How can I figure out what is causing this and, most importantly, how do I make it go away? A factory reset is an option, but I'd like to keep that as a last resort if possible.
Thank you for any and all help.

Air Push Detector said it is not necessary for Android 4.1+. I ran it, though, and told it to scan anyways. It didn't find anything.
It is driving me nuts that I can't nail down where these are coming from.
Try uninstalling gosms. If I remember right. When I tried that crapp it was full of ads

I can try that. If that is the offender, that'll be a real bummer. Used it for about a year, now, between my S3 and Note 3 and never had an issue. I got pretty comfy with using it as a messaging app, too.
That said, if it is going to cause pop-ups like this, it isn't worth it.

You recently change a theme in it or something?
Many of the "free" addons to Go* products are full of this crap.

I had an add on, but it was from a while ago. I can't really think of a thing I changed between it not happening and happening.
I have deleted GO SMS, though, and have not experienced the issue since. Looking like that was the culprit. Now I just need to find an acceptable SMS app.

Enjoy your app play store popup

Ok For a couple months now Ive been getting a very annoying nag everytime I download a new app from the play store. Basically I click download and I get a pup up nag that says "enjoy your app, if you ever forget your password we can restore your access...blah blah.tell us how we can contact you" or something to that effect. I don't want them to contact me and I'm not going to forget my password..I just want to turn the nag off......Ive checked the settings and I haven't found a way to do it. Ive also searched here and all over the web and cant seem to find anything.
Any help?

Can you take a screen shot of it please, I've never seen that before.
I second what @mjones73 said... I haven't gotten that ever, grab a screen shot so we can take a look at it.
A little preliminary stuff, have you ran Addons Detector to see if there is some push stuff going on?

I cant get a screen shot, I accidentally hit continue on it and then cancelled it....if I do that it goes away for a little while but comes back. As for the addons detectors no I havent I can try but this has been happening on multiple ROMs and I just reflashed the phone.

And what happens when you hit continue? It believe it's just asking you to add additional verification options to your google account.

Why? You should have verification setup even if you have it toggled off in your Google account settings. I believe this is also information needed to do a password reset if needed, so it's actually kind of important.

loki,
Am getting the screen once in a while. Like you, I do not intend to provide google/gmail with my phone number voluntarily as well. In my case, when I got the screen, I went to the settings and killed play store(Force Stop). That screen disappeared when I installed a new app using play store App again.

Hello.
I also have this all the time i update or install a new application using the play store. I dont think you can turn this off unless you give google what it wants.
I personally say "F**k you google you piece of sh*t, i aint givin you nothing" and hit the back button every time.

I finally gave in and did it and it went away. Pretty sure google already has my phone number anyways. Still kind of messed up though considering all of the hacking and data spills happening lately...I don't totally feel comfortable giving ANYONE my info lately.
In my case, I log into the gmail account associated with the phone on a Desktop using browser. My guess is that google wants to make sure that the primary account associated with the phone is active. Still it sucks that everything considered personal are now targeted information for Corporates like Google.

of course they have all this information, the point here is with your approval they legitimize it; they come clean. in practice but unfortunately none of it matters.
google is a disgrace and it blemished "open source".
I have to agree, yet another data-mining ploy by Google.
Anyway, I seem to have (at least temporarily) stopped this notification by hitting continue, then deleting the pre-filled phone number and then backing out of the recovery options screen.
We'll see if it comes back. I too have no interest in giving out more personal information than is absolutely necessary to make my phone work.
