Is it possible to root without Connecting to PC? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

l lost my USB cord that came with my tablet. l can still charge it with an aftermarket charger, but I have no usb connector to plug into a computer. I have a stock unrooted ice cream sandwich tablet. Is there anyway to root it without a USB cord?

I think you can through mobile Odin app. I have not used it but I read somewhere that it works.

You can't use mobile Odin because it requires root access. AFAIK, there is no way to root it without USB.

Solution
It is possible. You need to use an app not found on the Play Store, and get it using an APK file. The play store is basically a storage place in the cloud for loads of APKs, and it can install them, too. However you can also download these from the internet and run them to install them. These will let you root your phone with one click in the app. There are many of these available. With every app there is always the risk of bricking your tablet, but this is minimal. If you then want to get a custom ROM, you will want an app called ROM Manager.

Hey dude, first of all, ROM Manager is in the play store. Second, it needs root to flash the recovery.

Yeah, that's what I meant. Find an app that can root for you, then get ROM Manager. You can't post links when you're under 10 posts

Do you know any app that can root? I'd be very interested to find out.

If there is an apk that could root my tablet, i'd be soooo happy...:silly:

I found one on my HTC Hero that did the trick. I don't think it was on the play store though... I think it's called Universal Androot

Framaroot doesn't work. I don't know what other .apk there is to try.

Achieved
I recently wanted to ROOT my Samsung GT-P7500 and upon trolling the web, I came upon this website. So i went about searching and failng to find a suitable answer, I researched a bit and found an easy way to ROOT my tablet.
Being an owner of 2 Samsung products, Galaxy S3 (SPH-L710) and an Galaxy Express (SGH-I437), I had ROOTED both these cell phones using KingrootV4.82. It's really simple, push button rooting.

Android Market on Samsung Ace

I own a Samsung Ace, and I bought it in Middle East. Apparently Android Market is officially not supported here yet.
Now the phone came with one installed in it. I used it fine, never bought any app but downloaded a lot of free apps. They ran fine and everything was good. Except for one thing that ever since I had been using the phone, it had the habit of occasionally shutting it down.
So I took the phone to Samsung care they rebooted the phone or reinstalled the OS. Irrespective of whether the phone's working fine or not, I no longer see the Market icon on my phone.
I have tried downloading a couple of apk online. But one of them force closed even before the Market opened. The second force closes itself when I select any app from the Market.
I can come up with only 2 solutions,
1. Some ACE user out there send me the apk.
2. Some geek tell me how to find the market apk inside the phone, since the phone came with market installed on it, so there has to be an apk file inside it.
Waiting for everyone's reply.
Login your GMail app.
or, install the CWM and install the gapps from there.
Using root explorer, go to system-> apps-> & install vending.apk

Dont jus say thanks, use d 'THANKS' button. [XDA RULE]
Just instal one of samfirmware ROM (if you brought your phone, then flash all except the modem (Phone)). The european roms have Android Market instaled by default (but you will lose your warranty). If you want, I can write a tutoriual for that.

As long as it has root access, you should be able to shift gapps to the /system partition.
Install ES explorer and in the seetings mark root acess
For me best explorer and it's free

Looks cool but it must be connected to same network (192.168.1.xx)!
I dont really know if you want it to immediately install, but if you dont then use some cloud storage etc. Dropbox, Box, Google Drive and then download it to your phone. But if you want it to be immediately installed after you send it then I am afraid I cant help you.
I think the best way would be some kind ofvpn network way to remote control Your phone

Yes! Omg. You guys lack the answer he wants! You log in to the play store on your computer, using the same info as on your phone. Then, find the app you want on your computer and click install. Choose your device, and bam. Done.

Well, if you could upload your apk to there, that would be the best way. You might have to design your own app, unless you can figure out a way to adb over the internet, then you could use adb push and adb install.
Other than that, you have to make your own api for it. And it would only work on rooted phones.

cant install verizon cloud after flash

Hey, for some reason when I go to download Verizon Cloud to restore some of my data it won't let me download it, it says "this item isn't available on your carrier" even though I have a Verizon phone.
Any help would be appreciated!
Also the ROM that I installed was Tron 2.2, runs super smoothly

On Tron, and most other AOSP/AOKP ROMs, the phone no longer identifies itself as a "Verizon" phone, so Verizon specific apps don't work... Some of them you can side load and will work, others will not or will only work partially since most of them require other Verizon specific apps and services to be running on the phone and I don't know of any AOSP ROMs that have those services loaded. Check the various APK repositories and try to install, but to be honest it's only a 50/50 chance it will work.
This is the reason that we generally use Ultimate Backup (or Titanium Backup, My Backup, etc) and Nandroid images, and Google cloud based services and do not use Verizon services on custom ROMs.
Alright, fixed the issue, went into my build.prop and changed "ro.carrier" from "unkown" to "verizon" and aloud me to download it.

Does anyone know of a suitable 3rd party software like COOLMUSTER athough i dont want to pay for crap thank you very much for the help!

[Q] Using Sky Go on a rooted S3 with Cyanogen

I know there have been PLENTY of threads on xda trying to solve this and I've asked questions on the threads themselves and I'm yet to receive a reply. Can someone please give me a small guide (if possible ) how temp unroot.
1. Rootkeeper or any other app on the app store doesn't work when root is protected for me
2. SuperSU uninstall doesn't work for me
3. Flashing a zip to remove SuperSU and Busybox didn't work for me either.
There isn't a file with the name 'superuser.apk' that I could find.
Can anyone help with my predict? I really need to get this working before US Open

BTW I actually don't mind unrooting my phone for a few weeks as long as I don't lose data or backup. If there is a way to do this (which isn't considered a temp root) please let me know

Sky Go is an application which allows people with a Sky subscription to watch TV on their devices, whether it be a tablet, phone or PC. I'm guessing u live outside the UK because Sky is quite popular here. As for the app, it is free, however you need an account to access it. Here's the link to it in the Play Store anyways.

I'm not sure if you can have a look at this without an account but let me know anyway buddy.

Is there any way someone could pull the stock browser.apk so I can side load it on my S5. The new s5 comes with chrome but I kinda like the S4 stock browser for certain things. I know there is at least one other member with an s5 that would like it too. I searched Google but couldn't find it.

Yeah that's what I was thinking might work but there isn't root for the Verizon s5 yet. And I'm not sure if I could get away with rooting with Knox and being on the edge program. I don't think they would like the Knox counter marked when they get the phone back. I'll play with other Web browsers till I find one that suits my needs. Thanks for your help

My only problem with chrome is that it has problems with embedded youtube videos. Sometimes there isn't sound and other times the sound comes out of the ear speaker instead of the back. If it wasn't for that I would be happy with chrome
