London O2 SG2 I9100 on USA Verizon - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all!
Short and sweet, I purchased a SG2 I9100 in London and now I'm in the US. Can I use this phone with a Verizon sim?
I've done all the rooting, flashing, etc... I can use wifi but no messaging or phone calls ("mobile network not available").
So before I mess around with this thing anymore, is it even possible or am I looking at a GSM vs CDMA issue and nothing can be done?
Thanks all!
Mike

[Q] Will Samsung Vibrant work in Greece ?

Hello to everyone!I'm thinking of buying an unlocked one from ebay.Do you know if it will work flawlessly in Greek telephone providers ? I mean if it is compatible with their band.
Thanks for your time!
Yes it would if it really is unlocked. I've had my Vibrant for more than 4 months now and have tried it with 3-5 local carriers all of which worked like a charm, be it on 2G or a 3G one.
What frequency does your provider use over there?
- First thing i thought when i saw the title was "Major, Epic roaming charge. BOOM!"lol

Please Help, Atrix problems in South Africa!

Hi Guys,
Im in South Africa and I recently imported a Motorola atrix from the USA from AT&T. The importer created a motoblur account to ‘unlock’ the phone. So when I got the phone I could not create my own motoblur account. I took the phone to Motorola SA and the guy there reset the phone and I was able to create a motoblur account. All good I thought. The phone was camping on the cell c network and everything looked great. But then we soon realised it only camps on edge signal and won’t get 3g. The Motorola guy said it seemed the phone was locked to another network (AT&T) for 3g. Straight away I thought it was because it’s an import.
So I was on the net and tried to investigate the issue and I found that this was actually very common for this phone on AT&T. Apparently it can be changed with an update or with rooting and doing some changes etc. I’m just a student who wants a decent phone, I really don’t know my way around all this rooting stuff and firmware updates etc.
So basically I just wanted to know if you could help me sort it out? Or maybe you know somebody I could get hold of in South Africa that could help me?
I really appreciate your time and I’m looking forward to hearing from you guys
It could be cause your network uses different bands. For example if you take an AT&T atrix, unlock it, and try it on t-mobile, it will work but it will only get EDGE service as 3g runs on different frequencies on different networks.

[Q] International I9100 on Japan's data network

Hello, I'm going to Japan in May/June & I was wondering if the international I9100, not the Japanese SC variant, is compatible with the data networks over there. I did some Googling but didn't find any conclusive answers. I apologise if the question is "noob", or if this is not the right section to post this in.
In addition, this is my first time in Japan (specifically, Tokyo) with a smartphone so I was looking at prepaid data plans for non-Residents, and chanced upon b-mobile (http://www.bmobile.ne.jp/) which appears to offer pretty good choices. My Japanese is at around the N3 level but reading a wall of text gives me a headache so I've been referring to softbanksucks.blogspot.com for more cognitively-friendly, English translations of certain related news.
1) They've launched a new prepaid card (at least I think it's prepaid) called the Chameleon 4G which rides on DOCOMO's 4G network. My question is, since my I9100 is not LTE-capable, will I still be able to tap on the data network (if I get that card) but maxed out at a speed my phone is able to handle.
2) Since this is my first time, I would like to ask if anyone who has been to Japan has any recommendations for getting a prepaid SIM card with data (eg. Plans, things to look out for, tips, etc). I was looking at data SIMs with talktime too but they all seem to be post-paid.
Many thanks for any help rendered!

Docomo should work the i9100 as it uses a GSM network. From my memory, either docomo or softbank may actually deny giving you a sim card for unlocked phones. At least that was the case for my friend while he was working in tokyo.

Hmm that's strange, especially since he was working there and all. I heard both companies started selling prepaid SIM cards not too long ago, albeit at an exorbitant price. Thanks for clarifying the networks though!

I'm actually going in late May as well and was wondering the same thing. Fact that SGS2 will work is great news, as far as getting a sim, can't you just bs them and say a friend will give you some old phone when you meet up or whatever? If they offer and sell prepaid sims, I wouldn't imagine it being that much of a problem...
As far as networks, I gathered that majority over there is UMTS aka HSDPA these days, which most GSM phones have anyway, so that shouldn't be a problem at all.

Not sure the bs will work, 'cause from what I hear, you need an actual Japanese address & some kind of Japanese identification.
It's much easier to get a data-only SIM card & maybe couple that with a Skype Premium subscription for the period of time you'll be there, for calling.

Or via a friend, which is what i ended up doing. IMO much easier to just connect with or make a new friend and have them hook ya up.

Safe travels

[Q] Is wifi calling possible on Unlocked At&T with T-Mobile

Guys, running a T-Mobile Galaxy SII and find the wifi calling a great thing. I'm on the $30 unlimited data and text and 100 minutes of call. Fallen in lust with a Note. Wife has international version but limited to 2G on T-Mobile. I'm thinking of an AT&T unlocked and T-Mobile radio. For anyone who has gone down that route, can they say if wifi calling is available?
Thanks

[Q] american carrier for e120l.

Hi, I'm having trouble trying to find which american carrier i should be using with my e120l phone. I tried going to a tmobile store but they say the phone will only work on edge and i tried putting in an at&t sim when i was running on stock ICS and the internet was really slow.
I'm not opposed to using the phone at 3g or 3.5/4g, but have no idea which, if any carriers in america, offer good internet to this phone. Is there a specific combination of ROM/carrier i can use to make it work?
Thanks for the help!
