How likely would a port of the Google edition galaxy s4 firmware be on our note 2's? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

They seem to be pretty similar in specs but are slightly different in size. Would there have to be resizing involved? I've read in the sgs4 forums that it actually isn't aosp, that it's Samsung framework without the bloat and extra optimizations from tw. I'm curious to know if this could ever work for us.

It could work, just as there were ports from other devices for the S3, but its doubtful because it would take a hell of a lot of bug fixing and its still way too soon to be asking.

Galaxy Note 2 in hand next Thurs

Not sure where to put this...but here we go.
As with past devices, including the s2 skyrocket, recent tabs and orig note, I will have the chance to see, touch and play with the Note 2 well before release. Specifically Thursday.
Just as I did with previous devices I wanted to get input on questions to ask etc.
This opportunity has nothing to do with my employment at Sprint. Any information obtained is obtained through relationships prior to and outside of my employment with Sprint.
Rules apply. Basically no pics (i have been known to break this rule)
Ask away

Also is the u.s. version going to have physical buttons?

I see a lot of complaints about the screen. I'm having a hard time believing that it will not look sharper than the current note. I want a good screen comparison please.
Thanks for this:
Battery life
How it compares to our Galaxy Note, displaying a movie side by side
Quadrant and antutu (just for fun)
When does it hit at&t (I know you work for Sprint)
Can I have one now please?

What problem is this?
Your leak on the original Note was spot on, so I'm excited to see what you dig up, even if you don't get a chance to take pics. Plus, getting hands on this early is indicative that they're already in production, which looks like Samsung is going to go with a semi-simultaneous global launch like the gs3...good news for my buddy who is converting to android for the Note 2 from his iPhone.

Thoughts on the Galaxy SVI?

Thought I would ask those who have the Note II what you guys think of the SIV. I am a tech junkie and always move on to something else. (My only regret was the Droid DNA.) I actually like my Note II a lot and really don't know if I want the SVI or not (or HTC One). So what do you guys think?

Samsung says that all their flagship devices, including the GS3 will get the software improvements, anything not related to hardware, like ir.
I don't want to downgrade screen sizes so Note 3 is when I'm making my move. That S4 Snapdragon CPU is ridiculously fast though and makes me jealous that I only have an Exynos 4 (which is still fast).
Edit: I hate to be critical but I'm just pointing out the Roman numeral for '4' is 'IV'. Sorta bugged me that you were calling it a Galaxy S6 haha

**** yeah! Galaxy S6!
I think it's cool, but no exynos for America. That's a bummer. I don't really want a snapdragon chip in a phone I use, unless the next Google phone is that. Plus the note has a good chip and is unlockable. Along with a lot of aosp support. So far th is year nothing tickles my pickle like the note 2 has.

May I ask why you dislike the Snapdragon? I've heard the US version will be slightly faster than the Exynos 5 chip. On top of that, Snapdragon CPUs can be over clocked to oblivion lol

I'm sure it will, I just hope it doesn't take awhile. I think we'll be close to the Note 3 release before we see these features though, but I hope I'm wrong. Maybe the features will be easy to port (from 4.2.2 to 4.1.1) and we'll see these features in roms shortly after the S4 release

You guys are right. The phone shows no sign of lag on stock kernel with Project Butter Jelly Bean. Guess the updated processors on these upcoming devices are just an added speed bonus.
Edit: although I'm anxious to see how the S4's battery life is on the newer processors and 2600 mah battery.

I feel like at this point improvement in the processor world needs to be battery life, however even that is still minor. I just don't see how a processor even twice as powerful could have any real world benefit.

yeah those google updates aren't all they're cracked up to be. I've had a gnex since the day it came out almost 2 years ago and have not had a speedy update yet. My wife and I are still waiting for the 4.3 update.
I would think this thread should go in the Nexus forums?
OT: Yeah it would be cool but as others said, OTAs aren't as all as they are cracked up to be. Custom OS's (Roms) > Google Updates (OTA's)
Nexus devices on Verizon don't get quick updates. Actually, devices in general don't.

Why is aosp better on the s4 vs n2 and s3

After having all 3 phones and trying aosp in it. The s4 is the only one I can tolerate with minimal issues. The s3 and note 2 all had data drops and other issues.
While pondering my next phone I was wondering why this is? I didn't know if the GPe helped smooth aosp out, or if the ril integration in Android is just getting better or what the deal is.
I guess I'm just trying to decide if the note 3 gets a bootloader unlock method how stable aosp will be.

Better hardware I suspect. More horsepower = More better. Not being smart. I really think that is why.

I'm thinking there has to be more then that. It's not just smoothness. It's all around stability. Data, camera ect. From what I've read I think the s3 still has camera issues on aosp.

Should I buy an S4?

Hey! Right now I have a Galaxy Note 2 and I was just curious if I should get an S4. I have a little over a year before I can upgrade again and I'm finding Galaxy S4s on Craigslist in my area around $250-$350, which isn't all that much more than a regular upgrade. I like the higher resolution display they have and the better camera, but I'm not sure if that would be the only thing I'd be getting out of it. Also, since there are developer edition S4s, I figured I could easily flash it to Kitkat, such as CM11, and expect no bugs or glitches. What's everyone's thought on going from a note 2 to an S4? Worth the money? Do you think it'd hold me off another year?

if you can't get a dev edition or a retail edition on mdk don't bother. on anything after mdk there is no custom recovery, only safestrap. and even on mdk there is no unlocked bootloader, just a loki exploit that allows us to flash twrp.
the phone is a great phone, but if you are looking to mod it, you have very few choices with the s4 unfortunately.
