Update will/may overwrite recovery partition, flash new radio will/may also restore some of bloatware.
To preserve root: when cwm asks "Root access possibly lost. Fix?" Select Yes.

(It's modified official OTA update so it can be installed via cwm)

The Play store may not work if "google services" cache was cleared before installing the update (I'm sure it can be resolved easily)

Flashing with the offline flash method comes with a risk, and waiting for the ota or trying all the tricks to receive a ota is time consuming, and if you do get the update (via ota) you need all bloatware and no changes (to build.prop & completely remove artas182cwm) or the update will fail. I had the official ota update to jellybean (20D) crash on me 3 times and had to wait to get the update again. S***ed donkey balls, lol

Thanks for the upgrade zip. Seemed to have worked well. No apparent problems. The play store is working, though I didn't clear any caches before flashing.
Now to see if the wifi battery drain has been fixed.

If you want to modify it you can use Android Kitchen, just "set up working folder from rom" any rom will do, remove everything in "WORKING_" directory, copy everything from OTA zip into the "WORKING_" dir and edit "META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script"
I'm sure someone with 10g will find it useful.

3 attempts so far and each time after the firmware downloads and the prime reboots, right after the Android with the gears shows up he turns into an android with an exclamation mark.
Then after a 5 minute boot I get a system message that says:
Post here if you failed too, and solutions you have.
Attempts:
first - Device was nachorooted, root backed up via OTA rootkeeper. FAILED
second - with root disabled via OTA rootkeeper FAILED
third - removed root via viperboy's tool FAILED
fourth - factory reset then update FAILED
fifth - just going to repeat the stock attempts until something looks different
No idea if this would work but maybe use that tool viperboy made to unroot yours and then try (pretty sure it has an unroot option)? Not sure why that would help since rooted users have successfully updated but may be worth a shot.

So the same thing just happened to me. How did you end up updating? With kies?
Anyone have any idea why it would fail ota? Mine is also rooted.
Have the same problem with the OTA, Spain, unbranded. I can't even flash it through CF-CWM.
Will have to wait until my wife comes with her computer, mine can't run Kies.
I just updated mine via Kies. It was rooted (stock rom)
Now its not rooted anymore, so i have to root it again.

Yea I just updated via Kies as well, worked fine, except it failed downloading the update a few times, so i tried on a different laptop, and it was all good.

Could the problem be that I integrated system app updates in the /system? Or it's just that it's rooted?
me too. i'm getting failed OTA updates. the OTA update should be working will with chainfire 6.3 right? any help guys?
Had the same. Updated through Kies but lost root. Think it knows the system is modified so won't work ota.
To all with problems: OTA won't work with rooted devices!! Use Kies. And yes, you will lose root, but thanks to Chainfire that's very easy to restore...
My guess is that the failed OTAs have got to do with the custom recovery, that's why Kies works.
OTA does not work with custom recoveries like cwm.
What you need to do is let it download, move it out of /cache/fota/ to your sdcard, then update via cwm as you would with a custom rom. You will then need to reroot your device.

SGS3(rooted) can't update firmware via OTA(even Kies )it will stop on CWM
This what I did successfully
1.up firmware(use Odin) to CF-Root v6.3(that will have CWM 5.5 ver. 1.5)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695238
2.Then update firmware via OTA (settings>About device>Software update)check your firmware version in About device it should be new samsung firmware and that you will unroot you phone too
3.Re-root step 1 again if you want to root
Finally, I have successfully updated my stock rooted SGS3. Here's what I've done (upon my discovery)
1. For all the changes you've made on the root folder (/ or /system), make sure to put everything back to its normal state as the OTA looks up for signed apps/modified apps on those folders before updating. In my case, I had to remove the hyperx camera mod and make it to stock again as well as deleting unnecessary files like build.prop.bak that I've made. Just make everything SAME as the stock and everything will work as normal.
2. Make sure you're using CFRoot 6.3
3. After OTA update, you will surely lose your root. Just flash CFroot once again.
I have done all u say, but it will not let me update, keeps saying use kies but kies dont work for me keeps hanging after it says update firmware.

Don't need to unroot. Copy the file to the root folder of your ext SD and apply it using Moto Recovery. You will need to restore root after the update, so make sure you backup using Voodoo OTA rootkeeper.

Try this:
a) Take a full backup of your data and apps using TB
b) Unroot using Voodoo OTA Root keeper, you will NEED the backup.
c) Go into moto recovery and wipe data/factory reset the phone
d) Reboot and copy the file to the root of your ext-SD if you have not already
done so.
e) Go back into moto recovery and try installing the update.

I got a notification on the phone (a pop up screen) only after I copied the file to the ext-sdcard whilst the Razr was connected to the PC. You need requisite Moto drivers to be installed.

One question, I already have a stock rom v20a on the phone, can I directly install the rom via KDZ or do I have to return it to the V10K and then to install your version?
Another question, the KDZ phone mode setting: diag or emergency?
Thanks in advance for your reply and sorry for bad English
The first forum post after five years of membership
No, just flash it directly via kdz, set your usb connection to LG Software, and set your kdz to DIAG.
Thanks for this!
Is this the latest v20a?
flashable zip
can you make a flashable zip for this, if you dont mind.
And also how much free space left on system partition after deodexed?
How much free memory?
Thanks in advance.
Maybe later i make a flashable zip for this.
And this is screenshot for system rom and free ram

Thanks that's good. Since some of us are using the stock rom, it still safe to use the flashable zip than kdz.
And also lg already release the source code of v20a, then it wont be long cm10 will be base on this.
By the way, what are the bloated apps did you deletes if any?

How did you root this v20A. I think it may help me in finding a way to root the v20A released for L5.

Hi Kambi I flashed your rom from stock v20a with KDZ: all ok with last manual reboot. I found all my programs (also Maps) and cell rooted (superuser installed) but it's impossible open recovery cwm from cell off with Power+volup+home (I tried also other keys) I opened only from rommanager after his installation. Another strange issue: I can't install .apk from sd by filemanager; report error "there is a problem parsing the package". Any solutions? Thx
Did you try vol up + vol down + home then power?

Its power+vol up+vol down+home.
And for "there is a problem parsing the package", maybe your apk corrupted.
What about other apk?

if i flash this firmware from KDZ, will my apps and my data be removed?
Hi Kambi, thx for your quick reply I reflash your rom and KDZ stop working in "wParam=11, lParam=0" and cell return to charging mode. So I taked off usb cable, booted cell, popup android upgrading all my 116 apps, then all ok with cell rooted. Meanwhere KZD went on with popup "upgrade error: VParam 100-LParam2" and Win popup "UpTexEx MCF program stopped..." and so I stopped program. What is this? Now I can enter in recovery with last combination Pow+both vol+home and finally I'm in CWM! I downloaded reboot menu app and taked superuser permission, reboot in recovery ok! In rebooting cwm says"rom may flash stock recovery on boot.Fix? This can not be undone. - yes disable recovery flash. I go back and reboot. What mean? Issues: a bit lag in apps, in changing screen, in tel signal/dialer, in scan ext-sd (burned one 8gb cl4 in copying from sd int to ext, sometime self unmount: maybe quality sd cl 4?), that's enought now! Ciao

indeed, the version currently in OP should work fully now. using supersu 1.65 should net you root. just gutta wait for teh awesome devs to make yall some roms now. there are some things still left needed to be fixed for 4.3/note3 stuff.
dont restore any backups until this selinux stuff is fixed/figured out, luckily its a note 3 issue so all the note 3 people will be working on it .
this is a 4.3 thing but dont have my recovery fix root/remove scripts. you need them for root, when i get some time ill trash that stuff and compile a better version but for now just click no

Thank you for your work on this - I am amazed that you rooted the 3 so quickly!
When you say don't restore any backups, are you talking about Nandroids or TiBU files?

nandroids, currently there is an issue where selinux flag isnt being set properly when restoring data and then causes bootloops. titanium backup should be good
just to be clear, i didnt root the note 3, you guys had an unlocked bootloader it means rooting was as simple as flashing recovery. i included rooting steps in my OP to help people out.
Great Work Shabby!
Thanks for allowing me to assist you in getting it up and running!
Now we are just waiting on jellybomb 1.0

I was able to get the recovery to install and also the supersu. Once I rebooted it offered to repair root which I selected no per instructions but when I login to the stock room now after installing recovery and SU I receive an error that SuperSU has stopped and it never opens or allows me to open rooted applications.

Just re-run the CF-Auto Root instructions to the T and you should be back in business. I had the same issues and just used CF auto Root and it resolved my issues and I have root with no seen issues so far. Just got the device literally 1hr ago and just finishing up on it. Also if you installed a recovery you will have to ODIN back to OUDHS to get that back. I am holding off until I see some Jellybomb
