[Q] RAM Expansion?? - Galaxy Ace S5830i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm just wondering if there is any way to expand the amount of RAM on my Galaxy Ace 2. I have Jelly Bean installed

Not physically, but you can go from round 400mb ram to 600 if you install JB correctly. There are pro's and con's of this though from reading around the place.
Ps. There is a Q & A section for a reason.

RAM Swap
I am not sure, but i guess u can use ram swap to do this. Google it!

AFAIK we have no kernel that supports SWAP at the moment.
BTW I find SWAP unnecessary since we have a lots of RAM.

dont know about RAM, but for Swap, i use it

D-kernel should be able to... And mind you, you are using the L variant if im not wrong. Who says its not possible. And we have enough ram for normal usage. But gaming? You'll need at least a Gig of ram...

Yep, my mistake, D-Kernel supports SWAP. But in my opinion SWAP doesn't bring any noticeable improvement. You would need a high class SD card an it will always be slower than RAM.
And I don't think that phones in general are good for gaming. But that's just my opinion.

[Q] Increase Ram?

Hello,
I am curious, I have looked around but haven't really found any good or helpful information in regards to this. Although the Xperia X10 has 384mb of system ram. If I move a bunch of apps using Link2sd and free up so much space, is there anyway to increase the 384mb limit, say add another 128mb to make it 512mb thus enhancing the device?
or am i out of town on this one?
buddy our first focus should be to atleast use full 384 mb...
however we are right now only using just 256 mb of the ram.....
if you really want to use more, flash data2sd.zip through xrecovery. but, know that it is slower :S just try using a different ROM, Jerpelea's cm7 is very fast and snappy, a bit buggy for now, but try some other ones, you might find one you like

Selling my Optimus to buy a galaxy Gio?

If I sell my optimus I need only $20 more to buy a gio.
I just want to buy it bcos it has no problem with multitouch and no touchbug. And a little bigger processor than optimus.
Worth it? If not why.
And dont tell me to buy other expensive phones like sgs2 and such

Yes Gio has a 800 Mhz processor, but I don't know if it support flash player...
O1 has a 1.500 mAh battery instead of 1.350, too...

IMO, I would never/ever buy Samsung device again (I still have Samsung Galaxy), cause their support sucks big time. Unless the unit is from top of the line products.
Regarding Samsung Galaxy Gio:
- it has less internal memory then O1
- OS is 2.2 Froyo (don't know if it will get 2.3 version)
- 1350 mAh battery vs 1500 mAh from O1
- how much RAM it has is a real question (cause RAM is a must have)
In the end: I don't think that just because of a faster processor (800 MHz) is worth your money and an upgrade. Better wait till fall for other, maybe better upgrade.
So that's a big NO for this option (but in the end it's your choice).

There is no point in going for Gio, and selling Optimus one. Whats the major difference in both the phones except the Gio using chipset Qualcomm QCT MSM7227 which is overclocked at 800mhz. If you using custom rom, the least OC you get in optimus one is 729 which would be stable.
So does it make any difference of mere 70-100mhz. Offcourse, you can somewhat resolve the touchscreen bug issue through mik's kernel.
The rest screen resolution, camera etc are same. Its not worth to pay extra to get the Gio, when you have a working CM7/GB rom for optimus one.
PS: I am not sure about the ram in Gio, but if its <=512mb (optimus one), thn you are wasting your money.

i hardly think there would be a dev section for gio in xda so custom roms would be out of question...if ur buying a new phone, buy d 1 which has good developer section.

Exactly, plus increase your budget to buy a better phone in future rather thn selling the current phone and buying a downgrade phone with no dev support yet, plus ram is still questionable.
Guys guys I don't really care about custom roms or kernel. Because gio don't need them. It has nothing to fix such as multitouch bug or touch bug 100% cpu or gpu or whatever.
And RAM problem? I don't think so, my friend own a galaxy ace and has no ram problem whatsoever he even use 5 homescreens with launcher pro.
And the battery thingy, I do not care less even if optimus had 1500mah than 1350mah(gio) or whatever bcos I still ended up charging it every single day and same goes with gio in the future too I guess. So the difference is not that big in battery imo.
And like I said, I don't plan to buy gio for an upgrade phone I just want it because it has no problem especially touch and multitouch problem which optimus had now, and the official gingerbread rom kernel still hasn't fixed this issue.
Oh and no gingerbread updates? I DONT really care. Although I read some news that ace, gio, fit and galaxy mini WILL get gb updates sometimes this year.

No one has said anything about low ram ? Did someone ? I said I was not able to find how much ram does it have.
You should buy Gio, as you have already made up your mind and wasting time of others saying Gio has this/that. You get the reviews which are not bais on the device they are using. Good luck with your purchase.
Less Ram often means less speed because ram need to get flushed more often to load new data. Just like when using a pc. It's getting less responsive.
It will be a good riddance from our community!! Go for it

Update your phone to gingerbread from the LG update and see if you still have problems. The Gio is probably the better off phone if your looking for just stock, but the hack community here is the best and you will regret not having such a great team of devs that work on the optimus.

Will using a custom kernel help in high ram usage?

Omega v39...
I think, kernel doesn't really matter.
It depends on how your ROM clean is, and low memory killer.
Because as I aways use Siyah in different ROM with different bloat applications removed.
Some of ROM was left about 100 MB free memory, some of was 150.
Currently use omega v40, left about 150 mb at this moment as I am typing , I guess if I kill all apps it should be up to over 200 mb free memory
The thing really worries me is battery.
I have 2 additional battery, which make me have 3 batteries in total, but I still can't hang on a day usage...

Does anyone know about a method to increase ram ?
Use Roehsoft RAM Expander. In very short words to explain what it does, less storage, more RAM
You should try zram. I'm using arter97 kernel and it's in the aTweaks app

1.8-2.0 GB ram free on Slim6 by Umang on clearing all apps. Minimum always free ram is 1.8 GB.....never less than that. I have Facebook, twitter,Instagram tumble, WhatsApp and few heavy games installed too........I only use greenify app to save few battery

Android cares about free RAM, that's why it kills processes when it's running low, unlike with Windows, when it just chugs a long (and uses pagefile).

It cares, but it is better when more ram is used. It also kills the least recently (or least important) used process when it needs ram.

I guess knowing how much free RAM gives us a sense of available overhead for the future. Adjusting the LMK to make use of the available free RAM isn't a bad idea.
