Enable boot animations on any kernel/ROM - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Themes and Apps

Hey just wanted to post a link here to anbechs thread where he has a flashable Zip to enable custom boot animations since I've been seeing it come up more and more in this section. Tested and confirmed working for me on Goldeneye 3.0 mf8 rom with ktoons 7-11 kernel. Please thank anbech for creating this mod.

I did try Anbach's zip file (which basically replaces the original bootanimation file in system/bin for the an AOSP bootanimation version) but during boot I've got nothing but a black screen instead of (any) animation.
EDITED:
:good: Finally...It works even on stock ROM/Kernel, however, once installed, the permissions of the bootanimation file in system/bin need to be changed/updated from 644 to 755 (see the attached screenshot). As originally installed, it couldn't work because (although set to read/write) it didn't have the (elevated) permissions to execute.

nice, thanks for posting this

Install AOSP Browser with Flash on a rooted N10

I have installed fully working Flash integrated with the AOSP browser on my N10 by following the instructions found in this thread for the N7:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1780746
HOWEVER: The standard AOSP browser doesn't allow you to permanently set the user agent string. Yes, you can play around with the debug settings but the change doesn't stick over reboots. So instead of using the apk provided in the original thread I extracted the Browser.apk from the latest Cyanogenmod 10.1 for the Nexus 10. This lightly customised version has a setting to permanently change the user agent in Settings>Advanced. You can download the Cyanogenmod nightly from:
http://get.cm/?device=manta
Just unzip the files and look in system/apps for Browser.apk
Follow the rest of the instructions from the original thread. You will need to have rooted your Nexus to do this.
To mods: I would have posted this in themes & apps but I haven't posted enough to create a thread. If you think it's worth it maybe you could move this thread?
can you post the aosp browser apk for the N10? Is it the same as the one in the Play Store because that one doesn't work.

The best thing would be for you to download the latest Cyanogenmod nightly from the link above. You can then open the zip and get the apk from that. I don't really want to post the apk separately from Cyanogenmod.
There is an app that installs the asop browser for you

Alright thanks I'm going to install CM.10.1 now. I had it once before and I didn't like the boot logo (I know it's a small complaint) but can I keep the stock Nexus 10 boot logo while still having CM10.1?
edit: Nvm, I just installed the stock N10 bootanimation.zip

[SCRIPT] Odex any ROM

First, thanks to tommytomatoe for creating the awesome dexo script! I have only automated the process. For more info on the dexo script check TT's thread here.
Also, thanks to volk9029 for all the ROM testing, he tested a majority of the ROMs.
In theory, this script will re-odex any completely deodexed ROM, BUT it depends on the modifications the dev has done to their ROM. ie..if framework.jar is missing "preloaded-classes", the script will abort. preloaded-classes is needed for odex ROMs to boot.
Each of the ROMs listed below as "incompatible" have "preloaded-classes" missing from /system/framework/framework.jar. Each of these ROMs would be compatible if framework.jar is modded correctly. For more info see post # 8
Requirements:
-You need to have the HTC usb drivers installed. If you have HTC Sync installed, you're good to go.
-You need to have usb debugging enabled on your phone. Settings, Dev options, usb debugging.
-I recommend doing a backup before running this script (just in case)
Install:
-Extract zip to pc
-Phone must be booted
-connect phone to pc
-run "Odex my ROM.bat"
The script only takes a few minutes, your phone will appear frozen during the process. When the script is done, your phone will reboot.
DOWNLOAD
Compatible ROMs:
-OMJ's
-Superjelly
-meanbean 3.01
-Viper's ROM 3.10
-Hatka LTE ROM
-Digital Bath ROM
-Micromax A75
-Red Line ROM by billbowers
Incompatible ROMs:
-Flex's Stock w/ Goodies
-Tranquility ROM
-Timberwolf671 ROM
These are the only ROMs tested, if you use this script on another ROM, please post your results & I'll update the list.

Thanks so much for this. I just odexed the new HatkaLTE ROM and it's running great! I had read TT's thread but was a little intimidated by it. Great job automating this!
This works perfect! Thanks
This its awesome. Great idea. I knew tommy had made the script, and now you have automated it. Nice work from both of you. Thanks. Any reversal method being designed yet? I suppose do a nandroid before using the script would be best.

some good info from TT about the preloaded-classes issue...
tommytomatoe said:
Good stuff To bring a little more clarification as to why those rams are in the incompatible list.
"Preloaded-classes gets accidentally compiled into classes.dex by sloppy devs
Framework.jar should only be modified using baksmali and smali, never apktool or any other tool.
The bad framework.jar, its classes.dex contains the code and instructions for preloaded-classes already. So when you odex, framework.odex contains preloaded-classes and classes.dex codes - which causes the system not to boot. Odex files should only contain classes.dex code.
How to resolve? Take a fresh framework.jar and baksmali it. Edit it. Then smali. This will ensure preloaded-classes were untouched, as baksmali is smart enough to leave it alone.
Another alternative is to pull classes.dex from fresh framework.jar and baksmali it. Smali when finished and insert back into jar file.
Then, when you odex, framework.jar will contain only preloaded-classes and framework.odex is the optimized classes.dex. "
Of course, autogeeks suggestion works but that is not ideal for the obvious reasons. Mods done to framework.jar would no longer be available, all dependencies on those mods would of course be broken.
...then again, I haven't touched android in a long long time. What do I know

[MOD] CRT-OFF for VZW S4

This is the CRT-Off effect made for the Verizon S4!
I compiled this using the stock Verizon S4 I545VRUAMDK framework so it *should* work with any De-Odexed ROM based on such.
I know some people have been using the mod from the AT&T version, but in case you are having problems with that one give this a try instead.
You can also switch to a fade out effect instead of the CRT. Just add this line to your build.prop file! (remove it to go back to CRT)
Code:
persist.sys.screen_off=fade
Available download for De-Odexed ROMs and some Odexed. Let me know if I'm missing yours and I'll add it.
Flash using recovery
Download Links:
Download De-Odex CRT-Off
Download CRT-Off for Stock Rooted Odex
Download CRT-Off for CleanROM 1.5R2 Odex
Download CRT-Off for Synergy r104
Nice a lot of people are going to like this!

I've tested using a clean install through TWRP without issues. Try a new install by first wiping dalvik, system, data and cache in TWRP, then queue up the stock root zip first and the crt-off stock odex zip second.

It's the old TV style shut off animation. This mod will display this effect when pressing the power button on your phone.
Here is a video of it I found on YouTube (not my video). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4Wt23WPvZg
Old box style TVs used a cathode ray tube (CRT) to display the images instead of the LCD and plasma technology used in today's flat-screen TVs.
Thanks.

Are you referring to boot animations ? Crt is a screen off animation.
I only say that as the link you provided links to a thread about boot and shutdown animations.
At the op AFAIK Google have removed Crt for a fade off screen animation, which sucks

Yea it doesn't work.
Using wanam xposed. I just get crt tv screen off effect using this module..
S6 crt animation ?
I figured it out!
If you have a lollipop AOSP ROM like I do, I have beanstalk, Wanam Xposed doesnt work as of right now 06/27/2015 , so you have to install the xposed framework and then install this module.
