[Q] Camera Flash Notification - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I'm new to this android and touchwiz thing from an iPhone, so maybe i'm just tripping.
I recently rooted my phone getting the Hyperdrive ROM ver 5.0.5(?) (the most recent one) and I unchecked flash notification thing on the setting, but when I get incoming calls, it still flashes. It's bugging the hell out of me. I digged through all the setting possible and couldn't find anything related to it. Anyone have a fix for this android newcomer?

Because it's indicating vibration is turned on. Perhaps I'm missing something obvious here.

Its a "feature" they added to builds since KI3, The only way to remove it is to use a custom rom with Jkay delux built in or one of the other mods that remove it.
There is no way to remove it without rooting and modding.

Read the posts linked in this post, then you will understand what you will have todo to flash a custom rom/rom that the mod can be applied to.
If I remember correctly, it just means that vibration is enabled and that it also changes when you switch between silent and loud. Im not sure as i haven't used a samsung rom in a while. Anyway, you shouldn't worry about it all.
I'm tired of that icon too......is there any way to make it disappear beside jkay mod or "dis-activate it" .......
For me it is really more of a problem than a feature.
1. The vibration should be set to always if the phone need to vibrate during incoming call and message.
2. So now the vibration icon is shown always in the status bar. Before it was only when the phone was put to silent mode.
3. The only way to remove the icon when normal mode is to change the vibration to never where you are likely to miss messages and calls.
I used JKay anyways. End of the day its individual preference. I like to keep my status bar as much empty as possible
Had high time breaking my head with this when I went to XWKK5. I managed to remove icon by setting the vibration to never. But missed the call vibration. Thought I screwed my settings with mods

Nope, well there are other mods that remove the icon, but they also involve rooting, custom roms and flashing mods so you might as well use Jkays and get all the other good stuff.

How to turn of vibrate on exchange mail

Hi
Love the S3
However, i cannot for the life of me figure out how to disable vibration when recieving a mail on my exchange account...
I have my phone set to vibrate only all the time, and i want it to vibrate only when recieving a call or a text...
However it always vibrates when recieving exchange mail! It does NOT vibrate when recieving gmail... If i switch off the exchange tray notification it does NOT vibrate. However i want the tray/led notification, but no vibration... Im 99% sure this is how it is on SGSII, Galaxy Nexus and so on...
Any ideas?
Under settings vibrate somewhere there is a setting for auto vibrate/auto haptic.
Check if it's active for the exchange app. You can either disable it for only exchange or disable the feature altogether.
I'm imagining it's not a small oversight by you about forgetting to untick vibrate alert in the exchange mail app itself.

No auto haptic is disabled, otherwise everthing will vibrate
Notifications are set to silent..
There are no option to select vibrate or not in the e-mail app...

I don't know if this will work, I only just flipped it myself:
In the file /data/data/com.android.email/shared_prefs/AndroidMail.Main.xml, I've set the line <boolean name="<UUID>.vibrate" value="false" />. Before it was true. The <UUID> is a (surprise) UUID, that I'm guessing identifies the account; a guess that other lines in the file seems to support.
Try it out. It might work. When I find out either way, I'll post back, but I wanted to share my findings ASAP.
EDIT: You need root for this to work, obviously. Those files are protected against fiddling from the regular user.
Hmm i think you have a point.. There are quite a bit of references to vibrate ,including one set to "always" in the files in that folder, which i set to "never"... I edited around a bit with root explorer, which creates a .bak file, but the changes seem to be reverted when rebooted, and the .bak files are deleted as well...
I hardly have time now, but over the weekend i will mess around with it a bit...

Hmm, no dice. The setting that seems to be the right one, which is in com.android.email_preferences.xml and called <string name="account_settings_vibrate_when">always</string> can be set to "never", but whenever I enter the settings screen from the phone, it reverts back to 'always'.
I have also fiddled around in the database files, thinking that maybe the xml got overridden from a database value, but no dice.
I have found a work around temporarily before they update the software with a more discrete management of vibration in different notifications.
Under settings - sounds - vibration intensity you can set the notification vibration to nil.
I primarily use this for it to only vibrate when phone call comes and all other notification i only want sound and no vibration.

Problem is that also turns off vibration for texts/SMS'es, and I don't want that (turns out BTW that the stock Samsung SMS-app also lacks a vibration option in its notification settings... a trend?). It sucks balls.

Hi all
I upgraded my S3 to Android 4.0.4 yesterday on Rogers in Canada and it's running even better.
The only issue I noticed is regarding the vibration notification form the native email app. I used to not get notified when I was on a call and an email comes through. Now, it vibrates every time i get an email while on a call. i did find the setting in the email app to remove the vibration notification but it removes it completely even when not on a call and also when it's in vibrate mode??
for Gmail it's working well, only get a silent status bar notification which is what I want.
does anyone experience the same? let me know what I should do. it's frustrating to get that vibrating noise while on a call. i did try the kill the duck app but it didn't work....
Thanks

Thanks... but already have tried that. It works for all apps except for the native email app. Seems that after the update to Android 4.0.4, after they've added the vibration notification option, it seems to override all other vibrate notifications.
So for instance if i tick off that option in the native email app settings... and my phone is on vibrate, i won't get the vibe notification. and if i have it on, it will always be on, even while on a call....
So I only need a solution to suppress it while on a call... tried some apps like kill the duck and it still didn't work....
Help!

Well, since that option didn't work, one solution is Tasker. It'll give you (among a sh*tload of other stuff) the ability to define a context, e.g. 'Call in progress' and then set 'Vibrate on Notify: Off' while that context is true.
It's got a GAZILLION more possibilities, and the learning curve may seem a bit steep. And it's a pay-app. But it's worth every last penny, if you ask me.
Check it out.

Apart from Tasker, is there anything else out there? 4.99$ for an app to simply disable the email vibrate notification on a call is not the ideal solution....

Well, there are other similar apps, like Locale or Settings Profile. Some of them have "Lite" or "Free" versions that may or may not work. All of them are general purpose context/setting apps, though. I don't know of any, except that Duck app you mentioned, which didn't work, that do just what you want. Sorry.
On a side note, Tasker has a 7-day trial version on their home page.

[Q] S3 notifications & vibration controls are a mess

I have recently moved to an S3 after years in iPhone land. Its been mostly great, the S3 is a way more open and powerful platform. However a coupe of small things are driving me nuts.
All I want is my phone to vibrate and ring at the same time for incoming calls. Vibrate and play a tone when an SMS is recieved and neither vibrate or play a tone when an email is recievied (but still pop up the icon in the notification area). Seems simple enough, but it appears to be impossible on the stock phone. The only setting covering vibration in the Sound menu is "Sound and Vibration" but if I tick this the damn phone vibrates for all notifications, even if I have the notification sound set as "Silent".
The most frustrating thing is that is seems vibration settings per app used to be there in the S2, but have been removed in the S3. Now the Messaging and Email Apps do not have a specific vibrate option, rather it is all controlled with the global "Sound and Vibration" option.
My other annoyance is there is no easy way to control the brightness from the notification area (with out installing a crappy app). Once again it appears the S2 had a slider right on the notification pulldown, but for some reason this was removed?!?
I have used up all my Google Fu and have no answers. Can anyone suggest how to do these seemingly simple things in the stock rom, or suggest an app or even rom that has these features.
Thanks.

You can fix that in the messaging app settings. Messaging -> Settings -> Notification Settings. Tick Notifications and then select a ringtone. If it is still not working then its a bug, try rebooting the phone.
Regarding brightness control, try the app Quicker in Google Play

Thanks for the suggestion.. it gets quite close to what i want if you use the status bar shortcut. Just wish it could put the slider *right on* the status bar.
I think that saying it's a mess is a bit melodramatic. I have mine set up exactly as you describe. Maybe you need to play with your in-app settings a bit more ...

If i were you i'd do a factory reset.
Before i got my phone i had heard issues where notifications either wouldnt appear or would appear even when there is no text and various other issues regarding sound etc
So to make sure i didnt get any of these issues as soon as i got my phone i didnt a factory reset straight away and i haven't had any issues.
I've set my phone to silent and vibrate. The SMS notification vibration duration is annoyingly long on the S3. Is there a way to shorten it?
I use volume control + pro, and everything is good.... Give it a try

No problems at all. As has been said, you need to set your notifications in the in app settings, not the general sound settings on the phone.
To start, go into the phone settings and select sound, and then for notifications set it to silent. Leave sound and vibration as checked.
Then use your in app settings to set you sound and vibration for notifications. I haven't used the stock email app, I use the gmail app. You have to go into the settings for each individual app, but you can set a custom notification sound and vibration for each account. I tested this with two of mine, having vibration on for one and off for another then sent some mail. It vibrated for the account with vibration on, and did not vibrate for the one with vibration off.

OK, just out of interest sake I set up an email account using the stock email app and while it does have custom notification settings for each account, it does not give you the option to disable/enable vibration. So, to me, it appears you can not turn off the vibration in the stock email app without turning it off for the whole phone.
I would assume your only choice would be to use a third party email app if this is important to you.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
I'm on stock everything and it works fine. Only thing I had to do is install an app to get some specific mp3 ringtones I had made. But I do have the option for different types of vibration for different contacts or groups, the silent mode works and the custom vibration also works.

So my question is,

If the app is only in beta, the developers will probably add notifications in future versiones (if it's so important).
If you want to do it by yourself, you will have to modify the apk file.

Search in app's settings if there are some notifications options to enable sound. When you had enabled sound, you will just have to change the notification ringtone by downloading one, placing it into Notifications folder and switching to it in Settings.

[Q] Help with my galaxy s4's lockscreen notification.

So, a little while ago I had to reinstall the stock texting application and odex file on my s4. In doing so, I can send texts again like new but for some reason it's not displaying the notification for a message on the lockscreen.. (rectangle that says "New Message" that you click that takes you to the thread) I'm not sure why it's doing it. I have the notifications enabled and hangouts disabled. (turned off) The screen still lights up with a new text and vibrates and even has the status bar notification, just not lockscreen. If anyone can help me, that'd be awesome. Also, can we keep the bias 3rd party messaging opinions out? Thanks so much in advance!

Thats strange. try clearing data on messaging and then re-check preview message in messaging settings.
Yeah, I tried that.
So here's what I did to fix my issue,
1: I was running the build.prop hack for the s5 status bar. I returned to stock build.prop and did a battery grab reboot.
2: Not that it's relevant, but I cleared all data for Google play services.
3: *Important* I cleared my cache then all data for the Messaging app in settings. Reboot and reopen the app and it worked good as new. I hope this can help someone with the same issue.
