Rewriting Bootloader - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone!
I would like to know if it's possible to rewrite the bootloader, mine is damn crashed
The sim doesn't work, and it cant be connected to any available operators [But the device is able to find them]
Also Phone can not run any other rom but DSC
And also I wonder why it writes error near "Network Lock"
Is it possible to fix?

You may need the QDL Tool for this, but I'm inclined to believe yours is a hardware issue rather than software. Usually, "Default NV Checked #3" refers to the internal MicroSD. It may have failed or it may be stuck on write protect. Run the following test and post the results.
1. Turn off your Streak
2. Hold down the camera button all the way, as you turn on your Streak
3. At the white screen, dial in the code *#301# – This will open the engineering mode that allows you to run individual tests.
4. Dial in 10 then press Enter to run the SD & SIM test
5. The Internal SD test should pass, and it should show “permanent write-nonprotect”.

I have already tryed qdl tool, nothing changed
And the test is showing “permanent write-nonprotect”.

Try installing a stock ROM and recovery, 360 for example, and see if that helps restore the bootloader. Then install the custom ROM of your choice.

The device hangs on Dell logo, it can run ONLY DSC rom, thats strange

You may want to try running fastboot and pushing a replacement boot.img from 407 to the Streak, and see if that takes. The hardware diagnostics you did seem to rule out a hardware failure, which means the boot.img must have been corrupted somehow.

so do I have to use the following code to flash the boot.img ?
Code:
fastboot -i 0x413c flash boot boot.img
but i don't know where can I get the boot.img, can't find it on this site
Do i have to take it out from the stock .PKG file?

Each of the ROMs should be available on dev host in zip format as well. Download one of those and you can get the boot.img from the zip.

Rooting a Streak Engineering Sample

Hello all,
Apologies if this is not the right section to post - though it might be if I'm able to lift the ROM off this engineering device
I've been trying to root/change the ROM of this sample Streak device I have access to, but to no avail. It's SIM unlocked, but clearly is an earlier SW (possbily HW) version. There's no access to fastboot (pressing the camera on boot gets me to the engineering test menu, no fastboot option).
Here's some additional information:
Modem (Baseband) Version: AUS_************51
Model Number: M01M
OEM Version: Unknown
Build number: 77910
Any ideas?
Thanks
jkbuha
I'd ask Paul at modaco. He seems to know his way around rooting..
Sent from my Dell Streak using Tapatalk
Thanks for the tip fards - I didn't really want to trouble Paul, but seeing as no one here has any ideas I'll drop him an email and see what his thoughts are.
cheers
jkbuha
photo of the engineering menu please
this sucks
Heres the boatloader !!! My touchscreen wont calibrate either nor will it go into fastboot!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Try using the androot.apk since it doesnt require fastboot.
well 1% progress...
im rooted but i cant downgrade or flash any rom im afraid to flash clockwork....I just found out how to get fastboot even on that screen tho!!!!!!!!!
thats interesting, australian version?
in any case, you can either root it via the universal root tool and do a nandroid backup, or you can yaffs2 it.
you need linux os on your computer, yaffs2, and the system folder from your device
Code:
# cd /where/your/dumped/system/folder/is
# ./mkfs.yaffs2 system /system.img
# exit
i have an engineering device too, the one with a sticker under the battery cover. just wondering, is there a FCC number for that one?
Hi I'm back - apos for the delay
So here's an update...
I've managed to semi-brick my engineering (aus?) dell by issuing a fastboot -w and/or a fastboot flash boot/recovery without backing up my system first! Flashing any recovery image so far is unsuccessful.
Here's what I know so far:
Pressing volume down ONLY (not UP) on powerup goes directly to the fastboot menu. Right now that's the only thing that works - no recovery, booting.
I tried to flash the backup nandroid image kindly provided by one of the posters on this forum, but no luck. Boot/Recovery/System works but when flashing userdata with the data.img provided I get an error saying remote: too large.
Not sure if I have an FCC id - I'll check later
Any help appreciated!
if you can get into fastboot, i wonder if you can get into recovery?
its volume up+down+power on boot.
if you cant, try flashing to 2.1 using the american guide and see if it works. your device is already half bricked, so might as well give it a shot.
http://android.modaco.com/content-p...-devices-download-here/page/180/#entry1376331
theres also a few recoveries you can try, but the stock one wont do you any good since you dont have the baseband 51 rom.
Thanks for the link - but same results unfortunately
Pressing up+down on power on takes me to a menu which says:
1) factory reset
2) update from .zip (NOTE: not pkg)
3) reboot
When pressing the second option the screen goes blank (I'm assuming it's trying to launch recovery) and depending on what recovery I've flashed it either goes to fastboot mode or the two icons start flashing on/off then stop altogether. It's never gone to a proper recovery menu, irrespective of the imgs I've flashed.
Anyone has a link to
(i) a humongous backlog of recovery roms
(ii) a set of nandroid img backups for the streak
Or any other ideas?
Thanks

No Market on my streak! :o(

Hi I have no Market to install any applications,it won't install anything through a PC connection and it's in a factory reset state. I did a lot of research and tried to re-install the vending.apk file which controls it through an adb command prompt but it then fails on the permissions. I have rooted the phone but at the moment is useless because I cant get it to install any other rooted applications! Can anyone help me solve my dilemma. I'm not very good when it comes to programming and coding and have learned all I know from forums. So at the moment all my Dell Streak is an oversized mobile phone! Regards, Tris.
You rooted the phone. Did you delete the Market.apk by accident?
In any event, you should be able to get the Market.apk file here. Save it to your MicroSD card and then run it using a file explorer. That should fix your Market problem in the interim, although you would probably do better restoring your ROM.
Tried to install that used 'Astro' all was well but when I run the market it says it stopped unexpectedly and asks me to force close.
Been trying to Restore Rom using this method, only problem is I cant find the fastboot-windows.exe to continue the flash:-
HOW TO RESTORE YOUR STREAK BACK TO FACTORY CONDITION:
1. Download the stock recovery ROM here and the stock official Dell ROM here.
2. Rename the stock official Dell ROM 'Update.pkg' and put it in the root directory on your SD card.
3. Boot Streak in fastboot mode (hold camera button when turning on), press 'Fastboot Mode' button, wait 10 seconds then connect to your PC (must have Dell PC suite installed).
4. Open a command prompt, navigate to the folder where your 'fastboot-windows.exe' is stored.
5. Type 'fastboot-windows.exe -i 0x413c flash recovery c:\recovery.stock.img' . Make sure the .img file is in c:\ directory. The program will now update the recovery image on your Streak.
6. Once the phone reads 'Recovery Done', remove the battery and insert it again.
7. Boot Streak in Recovery mode (hold down vol up and vol down when turning on) and select option 2.
5. Wait till it installs and it'll boot into Android....DONE!
Any ideas why it now force closes and where that fastboot file should come from?
Thanks again.
Questions:
1. You've rooted your streak. What recovery image did you use?
2. Did you go to /system/etc and change "install-recovery.sh" to "install-recovery.sh.bak"?
While the first question is mainly for curiosity, the second question is very important. It tells me whether the recovery image in question 1 actually stuck around or was replaced by the default recovery image.
For best results, look for multi-recovery flasher in the development forum and use that to restore a default recovery image to the Streak instead of doing it manually. It includes all the files you need, including the fastboot file. After that, go to the wiki and download an official ROM image from there.
I have no idea what is causing the force closes, and that is why I'm recommending starting fresh from a stock ROM in the first place.
Thanks for your help, managed to get the job done. All that stuff wasn't necessary but appreciate the quick reply.
First I managed to download a Stock Dell o2-UK 2.2 Rom form the Dell website Here:- http: //cot.ag/fKoFRX
Then I followed another guide I found by changing the filename to 'update.pkg', putting it on the SD cards Root directory and booting into recovery Mode (Hold down both Volume buttons while powering on) selected the install form SD option and just let it do its work! Buzzing!!!
At least I can do this again in the future if things go wrong once more(I HOPE NOT)!! I can't help myself you see,i'm one of those people where the last thing I did just isn't enough!
Once again thanks for the help and maybe I hope this could help someone else who needs a jargon free solution to a fresh stock install.Tris.
In simpler language, your recovery image was a stock one, so you only had to follow the Dell standard procedure for replacing the ROM.
P. S. Use the thanks button if I was of help.

[Q] Huawei U8520 Dual Sim problem with bootloop and no recovery menu

Hi all
first of all I apologize if this is not the right place to put my inquiry in, but I could not find the specific forum for this device.
I have serious problem with this android mobile phone. it is pretty good phone very useful with dual sim function one of them is 3G with WiFi Hotspot but the problem that I have rooted the phone with superoneclick and I have installed a lot of apps in it modifying some language files then when I restart the phone to let the changes take effect then the mobile keep restarting for infinite. Tried to get in to the recovery mode by using Call Button+Volume up+Power but the screen became blank. I spent the whole day searching the the internet to find the solution but with no clue. the problem the device is new and not supported that much in the public forums. could not find Stock Rom. Huawei website and bulletin was not useful.
is there any way to do it through USB or sdcard and How?
thanks in Advance
I am still trying to find a solution...
if you need it, I attached the original recovery dump to this post.
then you just need to get "fastboot" and then (after preparing your device for fastboot):
"fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" (on a command line opened on the same folder where "fastboot" is)
or you can probably do it too on Linux if you prefer. if it is possible, you'll find the way for it on Google.
also, to access fastboot mode is POWER+VOL_DOWN (not volume up or a 3 key combination) and recovery is POWER+HOME (which you probably already know).
the system dump I can't send because I never made a dump.img of it and I am currently having a bootloop problem (I'll probably have to flash the original rom from a friend).

[Q] Dead P760 after accidentally deleting internal partition

Hello,
a few weeks ago i flashed cwm and cyanogenmod 10.2 nightly to my L9. I wanted to use Link2SD to move some apps from internal memory, so i had to repartition the sd-card. Unfortunaly the phone would not let me remove the sd-card (seems like it is stuck because the eject-mechanism is not working). So i tried to repartition the memory with Aparted from within the phone and of course i accidentally removed the phones internal partition, instead of the sd-card partition. Now the phone won't respond to almost anything i have tried. That includes:
- turning the phone on
- booting to recovery
- s/w upgrade mode
With Lelus tool i am able to get a fastboot connection, it even looks like i am able to flash another recovery image (i have the omap drivers still installed from flashing the phone the first time). But in the end the phone itself does not respond to anything. When trying to install ics x and u boot with Lelus script it fails after complaining about a missing partition.
Do you know another way to restore internal partition(s)? Is there any hope to get the phone working again?
Thank you in advance
if all fails try this you may get lucky

Thanks a lot! Looks like LG Support Tool recognizes my phone now (there is no visual feedback on the phone screen in S/W Upgrade right?) But when i start to use the tool to recover from a failed upgrade, it always skips around 20-25% progress. For a moment the phone is not shown in my windows device manager and after that, it is recognized as Ti Board - Omap44xx every few seconds and then lost again, like the driver is not properly installed (is that possible after being able to get to fastboot and S/W Upgrade mode?). Any idea?

The s/w mode from the unofficial fastboot is not going to work. I think you really messed up your phone doing that (aparted). You might be able to run a fastboot command to repartition it but I doubt it will work. Try this command select option 1 (just fastboot)
fastboot devices
fastboot oem format
You should have a look at this information as well http://www.omappedia.com/wiki/Android_Fastboot
Sent from my LGMS769 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
my phone just LOGO,, try update offline error 4%
then i try with fastboot:
fastboot devices
fastboot erase u-boot
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash u-boot 2.img
fastboot flash boot 3.img
fastboot flash recovery 4.img
now phone is dead,, i se on device manager omap4430 fastboot usb device only connect then disconect continuesly...
please helpp,,, #cry
This should help you fix it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2119090
It will give you fastboot access again so you can flash the correct files.
I love omap devices, they seem to be difficult to hard brick with the exception of the high security models.

if you have something to add please do
Thank you all.
Here's an alternative method for those who don't trust flashing tools due to bad experiences and prefer flashing files manually via Fastboot (like me):
Follow steps 1. to 3. and 5. of the opening post.
Unzip the stock rom (archive) into your ADB/Fastboot folder.
Boot the tablet to the bootloader (c.f. step 6. of the opening post).
Use the following commands:
Code:
fastboot flash gpt gpt.bin
fastboot erase misc
fastboot erase persistent
fastboot erase frp
fastboot erase metadata
fastboot format config
fastboot format country
fastboot format cache
fastboot format data
fastboot format factory
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash config config.img
fastboot flash country country.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader
fastboot flash oemvars bootloader_policy-oemvars.txt
fastboot flashing lock
fastboot continue
Execute each of them with Enter and wait till a command got executed completely before you try to use the next one.
It might happen that you face an error while flashing that oemvars bootloader_policy-oemvars.txt. I couldn't find out why that happened and ignoring it seems to be harmless.
Follow steps a) to e) of the opening post.

So my Android YB1-X90F was locking up when trying to boot, just stuck showing the Lenovo logo. Thinking I'm clever I stubbled across the boot menu if you start the device with the Volume Up held. From there I tried the Recovery Mode and did a Factory Reset. Then the tablet started up and shows the Green Andriod Bin Man, saysi Encrypting and promptly reboots. So one starts Googling and ends up here. Some very help information, thanks for that.
So I've got as far as installing all the drivers/Intel Phone tool/Android Suite etc. but I'm still stuck. The flash is locked. Is there another way to unlock this as I can't get into Android to allow the developer options as suggested in Step 2 of the opening post?
Trying the fastbook commands in post 2 also fail

finished. total time: 0.170s

LOL @ me, of course the manual fastboot commands fail as that's precisely what the Phone Tool App trying when doing its magic.
