[Q] Replaced Build.prop and bricked - LG Optimus L9 P760, P765, P768, P769

In a little bit of a panic. I replaced the build.prop on my phone with one of the defaults I found here (for p769v20d) and now my phone won't start up. I just see the LG logo and the screen stays black. I tried doing a hard reset and the little open android shows up, but it then goes black as well. I have root but removed cwm to install the update. My bootloader is locked. Is there anyway to fix this?

Sounds like you'll need to do an offline flash http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38677123.

Do you still get adb connection? How about taking your original build.prop (or from your original kdz) and:
adb push build.prop > /system
? Should work fine I guess

You should do a search for similar questions before making the same question thats already been answered
anyways, you should offline flash a fresh 10g kdz.. root it and then use rooted v20d cwm back up to restore u to rooted v20d.
worked perfectly for me

[Q] Any idea why my phone bricked ?

Hi Guys,
I rooted my Optimus One using the Gingerbreak method following http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765. I got SuperUser privileges and everything worked fine.
Then I started deleting those Apps which can pre-installed on my Phone and were really irritating me and taking on space by using the "Root App Remover" from the Android Market.
Preinstalled Apps I removed :-
(1) Facebook for Android
(2) Twitter
(3) LG Home
(4) LG Games
(5) Music
(6) Video
Now my phone wont start and its stuck on the "Android" bootup screen.
I think I screwed up by removing LGHome, which probably was the Launcher. I then tried recovering by setting my phone back to factory settings but the Home screen just goes black and when I reboot gets stuck in "Android" screen.
Any help would be appreciated, as to what I did wrong and if I can somehow recover from this.
Thanks in advance.
do you have a custom recovery like CWM or Amonra ? if so boot int orecovery console then delete data/cache files including dalvik cache, also theres a how to section sticied at the top of the posts with instructionional thread on un-bricking
you removed the LG Home!(It's the launcher) Now you can do one thing switch of your phone then hold down home+vol down+power it will reset your phone via lg recovery!

My cousin delete his lg home LUNCHER and that happened.. But it's an easy fix just get someone to call you then end the call and you should be able to unlock your phone blank screen but you still have your status bar just send an apk/home LUNCHER file through gmail and you should get it on your phone that's if your signed in.. And just download.. This only applies if your phone is boot up but has an black screen.. If not of course this would not work.. Why t I posted it cause it came to mind

Rooted it again! Working perfectly.

You will have to be more specific than this...
Have you tried wiping Cache Partition and/or Dalvik Cache
When i boot the phone it never fully boots, when it finally gets to my lock screen the android system does not load. I can't do anything at all. I havent tried to root or anything. it just started and there was no reason why
the phone has finally booted to where my homepage would be but its a black screen that says android system on it and thats all. i can get to no apps or anything,
Im going too take a wild guess and say you either tried too install cwm without being rooted or u did not properly unlock your bootloadeR. Which is the case? Because this would not just happen did u read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302423

You might have to use rsd lite to flash a stock rom. If you look thru the posts in the dev section you will find what your looking for. I believe the post is labeled but don't quote me, how to root after sbf flash. I know it's something like that.
Read up on using rsd lite it's very easy once you read about it.
Best of luck to you.
If I can be of any further help feel free to pm me and I'll do my very best.

Sounds like you should factory reset.
Turn off phone
Hold volume down and press power
Continue holding volume down until it says fastboot in upper left corner
Release volume down
Press volume down until you get android recovery in upper left corner
Press volume up
Find factory reset option ( not sure where since I don't have factory recovery anymore)

Custom Unlock Icon on Boot, what does it mean?

I have what I think is an unusual booting splash screen. It is the first thing to show up after turning on.
I also booted in to the Odin menu just to see the status and took a picture of that.
I just got my phone today and have done nothing other than install normal applications, I haven't tried to root or flash anything.
I watched a video of some other verizon SGS3 owner turning on their device and that unlocked lock icon and custom do not appear.
Anyone know what this means?

You will probably get a better response if you post this in Q&A. I don't know the answer to your question though. I am curious what they answer is.
it comes up once you've flashed something using odin
if you'll notice on the third image, next to "SYSTEM STATUS:" it says "Custom" this means something other than something official has been flashed to it
i'd really like to know how you did this
me too
Like I said, I haven't done anything. I have actually not even plugged it into my computer yet via usb cable.
Maybe it came rooted

Its not rooted
I suspected that and tried to just download superSU and it doesn't work, says phone isn't rooted.
Assuming you bought yours brand new from the store, I'd go back. But first I'd try removing the microsd card and booting up. Then try the SIM card, then boot up again. If its still the same, something is up with your device. It keeps booting up into download mode. :S
I don't think he was saying it boots into DL mode on its own, just that he went into DL mode to confirm he's not running anything custom, which it appears he is not.
Strange that it would show the custom boot image when you're running the official ROM. I don't know that that's a bad thing, or that it's worth returning the phone. Might be worth calling Verizon and talking to them about it. At the least you then have a record that your phone was doing that from the beginning, so if you have to return it later on after installing custom ROMs, you can say it was always like that

Please please don't return to VZW. See if a dev can help you to get dump. You could be holding the key to save tens of thousands of us.
This is very interesting. Subscribing to thread!
Although yours isn't rooted and perhaps not unlocked, the devs can check out what's different in your device through a dump and it could assist them in achieving root and unlocking the bootloader. I don't really know a whole lot about developing, so maybe that's not possible

Really sticky situation, bricked p769 phone

So I have an LG Optimus L9 phone from T-Mobile that I recently got, but it wouldn't let me save apps to my SD card, which really limited my space. Id rooted my previous Android phone, and I thought I could do it again.
So I tried unlocking my bootloader and rooting my phone using this tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277639
But I guess one thing led to another and... Well, now when I start my phone, it just leads to a screen that says Encrypting and a button that says "Reset phone", and every single time it resets to this "Encrypting" screen. Every once in a blue moon, I can get it into CWM recovery screen, but I don't know what to do. I've been trying out multiple things, but I'm on the verge of losing my mind! Can anyone help me? I'd really appreciate it!
*UPDATE*
Good news! I used the LG Mobile Support tool to update my phone to V20H by using the advice below!
BOOTLOOPS? STUCK AT LG LOGO? : Dont worry!!! If you were on CM and flashed JB or vice versa or your data partition is not matching with new partitions, then your phone may get BOOTLOOPS on LG Logo.
HARD-RESET to solve it (Press VolDown, Home and Power all together) You will loose data, dont worry, before starting you took BACKUP and I am sure about it. Phone should start normally. (Click for correct method of HARDRESET)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2085344
So now it boots up fine and works! But now the touchscreen is wonky. That's normal from what the tutorial said, but at this point, I'm desperately just trying to bring my phone back to normal... Anyone know how I can fix the touchscreen issue, or restore back to normal from here?

Keep following the tutorial if you still want to unlock bootloader. Otherwise jump to the 2nd part of it (step 5 and on), to flash back to P769 rom and then apply (flash) touchscreen fix.

I just tried following the tutorial again, but I came across the same error I got the last time I tried (before I got myself into the encryption shenanigans). I was following the youtube tutorial that carloswii5 posted at the top of his written tutorial.
I got to the part where I had to install the recovery (At 13:37 of the video), but when I click the button to install it, I get this error:

(The forum won't let me post links until I'm have 10 posts on the forum, so I put a space after the h in the http...)
Sorry for the terrible webcam picture. Any idea what this means, and how I can fix this? Where did I go wrong? And thanks again, people, I appreciate the help!

I actually got it up and running a while ago, thanks though, I really appreciate it!
Apprearently I had to flash my phone to V10G, root it, install the L9 recovery, and then follow the tutorial. I don't know how that slipped my mind, but I didn't try flashing it to V10G first.
Just for the sake of putting a resolution to this thread's issue, here's what I did.
1. I flashed my phone to V10G using cmahendra's tutorial here:
h ttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2085344
2. Then I rooted the phone using this Chinese tool that aristide1997 posted:
h ttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2439667
(There might be a better way to root the phone, but that's how I did it)
3. Then I installed the L9 Recovery apk that I got from carloswii5's tutorial. (It's the last link, the mega.co.nz one, the all in one zip that ggfool politely posted)
h ttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277639
5. After that, I just followed carloswii5's youtube tutorial,
h ttp://youtu.be/WyNtFP_TkKc
and everything went smoothly from there.
Anyway, thanks for all the help you guys, I'm glad I finally got this problem sorted out, and can now install custom roms on my phone!

I am having similar problems to the one explained above...
Today my phone started giving me google service stopped working and calculator stopped working...so I restarted my phone. when it powered back up it got stuck on the LG Logo Screen...once in a while it will go to the encryption screen with the reset phone button and does nothing if I push it. I have tried to hard reset the phone by doing the Volume Down + Home Button + Power button all at the same time. When I push all three after removing the battery to make sure the phone is powered down, it just vibrates and powers up to the LG Logo screen again and sits there. I am really frustrated at this point and heart broken because I really like this phone. I have had the phone a little over a year now. So it is out of warranty. For some reason it is not getting seen when I connect it to my computer via USB cable. I do not understand all the conversation about re-rooting and such. I am not all that tech savvy, so I need simple instructions.

I tried the LG Mobile Support Tool....unfortunately because the phone is not booting up all the way, my computer is not being seen. I ended up going out and replacing the phone with another phone. This was the second time that something like this happened to that phone. The first time it automatically started an System Update without my input and I was not in a good coverage area and not hooked to a Wi-Fi at the time and then my battery dies midway through. This lead to the phone being stuck without the software fully downloaded. Had to send it to LG for a little over a week to completely wipe the phone and re-install the software. It was under warranty at that time. This time the warranty was out of date. I will still see if there is anything that they can do for it. I went with another LG, but bought the extended warranty through the store where I bought it, not making that mistake again.
Hi thejenibear, thanks for your feedback.
Cheers. Good luck.

[Q] Phone is dead. Please help.

I have an E970 which I have loved over the past 16 months. Love it. It's not rooted or modded in any way, but I had it set up real nice.
I was at the hospital emergency room yesterday visiting someone and had some time to kill, so I updated some apps that needed updating. I did this over LTE, not hospital WIFI. I mention this because of what happened next.
Last night I started getting an error message when I attempted to get into the settings: "unfortunately settings has stopped." Everything else looked normal at this point.
Of course, the first thing I did was reboot and there was no change.
So, I did a little research and the suggestion was:
1) something you installed or updated last messed it up, try uninstalling the updates.
2) try putting the phone into safe mode and see if it works.
So I uninstalled the apps I had updated while at the hospital. Swiftkey keyboard, Chrome, Dolphin, the MyAT&T app (never used), and some others. About 12 in all. No dice, settings was still not working.
So after another reboot, I put the phone into safe mode (which I didn't know existed on Android). It took a long time to reboot into safe mode, much longer than a normal reboot. Settings was still not working. Same errror. Thats when things got worse.
Rebooted back out of safe mode. It still took a long time to reboot. Now not only does settings not work, but now the notification area on the top of the screen is gone, the notiication shade is now gone, and long pressing home does not bring up task manager. I am able to get into the settings for the home screen and the lock screen via the menu key. I cannot access sound settings or wifi or anything else in settings. I also lost my wallpaper. The LG launcher was still working as was the LG lock screen. All else looks fine, my MMS, contacts, email, etc.
This morning, I tried rebooting again. Now the phone won't boot past the white AT&T logo after the animation and sound plays.
I tried removing the sim and the sd card. No change. No boot.
What the hell happened to my phone and what should I do?
At this point I realize I'm probably going to lose everything in my phone memory, and I'm at peace with that. I had my photos and media all on my SD card, but my contacts and my text messages from the last 16 months are going to be gone.
I am not versed in rooting or recovery, though I am actually very technical. I would appreciate any assistance anyone could give. Thank you.

Two option that I can think are a factory reset and restoring with a program named lgnpst.
Factory reset would be simplest if it works, but will definitely wipe your phone.
Using lgnpst usually doesn't wipe the phone. Let me know how you want to proceed.

First of all, thank you very much for replying!
LGNPST doesn't wipe the phone? Well, I'm all for that if it works. Boy, I thought for sure I was 100% going to lose everything. Now at least maybe there is a tiny chance of not losing everything.
I had joined the lg-optimus-g irc and user autoprime directed me to the guide there. I downloaded and installed tSilenzio's Automated LGNPST already. I was going to use it to flash the stock rom, but I didn't do that yet. Is that what you need me to do with LGNPST, flash the stock rom or does LGNPST have other options? Please let me know, I'll wait for your reply, sir!

I would use the stock firmware posted by g33k3r, it is a zip that contains a tot file which you rename to .bin for use with lgnpst. If afterwards you want to try custom ROMs we can go from there.

I'm downloading LGE970ATT-V20j-Stock.bin.zip right now. It's a super slow download though...
Let me see if I can find the one from g33k3r...

I found it just before you posted that... DLing now.....
So flashing this *may* repair my phone without losing everything? I'm guessing it will overwrite all the Android OS, LG and AT&T files?

I think i'm screwed.. I did the flash, it rebooted, but is stuck on white AT&T screen...
I think I have to do the factory reset.
well, that's it. did the factory reset. that worked.
>sigh<
the only stuff I wish I could have saved would have been the contacts and the text messages. They are gone now.
Thank you, adfurgerson, for the hand holding. I appreciate it!
