[Q] Is my phone dead? - HTC Rezound

For the last week or so, I've noticed my Wi-Fi has been dropping in and out. I had been trying some JB ROMS lately and restoring to another Sense ROM. I figured it needed a big refresh, so I ran the 403.605.2 RUU from the root of the SD card in the PH98IMG.zip form.
Still the same issues, and now my 4G is really flaky.
Now I'm wondering if my phone is just on its way out.
Is running the RUU from a PC better?
Can I do any other wipe/flash combos to reset it even further?
I am S-Off...

Run the ruu again and perform a factory reset in hboot BEFORE installing a custom recovery.

Edit: i too am s-off and ran this with all jb roms posted and it works perfectly fine....also always make backups and rename that file on the link and make sure it looks like PH98IMG.zip

Thanks for the info. I had run the 4.03.605.2 RUU a couple of times, and also the latest official RUU that updated to 4.05.605.14 with the correct radios you listed. I have no idea what was going on, but my phone seemed to get worse every step. It would reboot, Wi-Fi quit, the 4G quit. It would go into a bootloop on the white HTC screen and wouldn't boot until I ran the RUU again. It finally went to that mode where it wouldn't boot at all until I charged the battery for a few hours. I figured it was hosed, and started browsing eBay for something new.
I finally ran the latest official RUU again and let it update OTA to the latest. I then did a factory reset under settings, then from the bootloader. I ran it stock for a day, then finally last night installed Amon RA and installed EclipticRez v9 and (fingers crossed) things seem to be back to normal.
I really wish I knew what happened, and I'm wondering if it could be battery related. I was sure it was something hardware related. Nothing I did for the couple of days before I first posted helped...

Weird...my phone wasn't that loopy...I've seen similar errors on other posts but if followed proper steps should work fine...I always read twice and flash once just to be safe instead of getting flash happy lol..I updated radios because signal and battery life was poor and read that jelly bean required the latest ruu...so I did tons of research

[Q] Help me return this rezound to stock (SOLVED)

I need to return a rezound to stock. I purchased it @ retail but have since gotten one via craigs list for nearly half price.
I was running an ICS rom.
First attempts with using RUU in windows resulted in ruu not seeing the phone via USB. The phone was locked @ the time and in fastboot usb mode.
I have tried many of the threads doing things like setting mainversion low etc.. still wont detect the phone . Tried pulling the zip and doing it from hboot but it says hboot mainversion is older.
Im sort of lost and on my last day here. I am currently on cleanrom so it looks kinda like stock, I realize it will still says relocked but i dont want anything else out of place if possible...
Flash the newest ICS CleanRom, Scott has it in his rom to get you back to mainver 1.00.000.00. This will allow you to pull the zip and do it from hboot. But make sure you using the right RUU. If you have hboot 2.11 you have to run RUU 2.01.xxx.xx.
Ok flashed to the latest, now as far as the ruu zip.. im in linux so i cant just grab them from the windows temp folder i have been dl them..
if using the downloads from scotts do i need to do both the smaller 3.xmb one and the larger472.xmb one? do this after re-locking correct?
UPDATE SOLVED
This issue was the ruu file there was the older one once i searched out the new one by name and found it all is well.
Thanks for the clear concise answer EmerikL

Just got s-off and am having a major issue

ive read every thread and nothing seems to work...
ive done the internal and sd memory fixes but im still having a major issue, i was running clean rom de1.2 perfectly before i went and started the s-off procedure...now once i achieved s-off and i went to upgrade my rom to cleanrom de 1.3 i was getting the memory errors and reboots...went through the steps to fix the memory as i mentioned earlier and im still getting reboots when i receive txts or emails...normally id think this were a rom issue but ive tried some different roms...i thought i had the issues taken care of but now when i go to play some music it reboots plus im still getting reboots with sms and gmail...i froze gmail and have bought enough time to charge my phone to a decent ammount (have been working on this all morning), everything is current and have tried everything from wiping several times and re-installing the roms several times, all the fastboot and adb commands from the storage issues...flashed different kernels and even recoveries...i cant even stream music from my laptop and play it on the phone with out there being a reboot...i can send sms fine, it just appears to be receiving them is the issue...dont know if this is one problem or several...what information of my phone would you guys need to diagnose a problem...
im on:
Cleanrom DE 1.3 w/ 3.0.13 kernel
baseband v. 1.22.10.0310r 1.22.10.0308r
build 3.13.605.7 cl363816 release keys
hboot 2.21.2121
not sure what else to try...is there a method to getting back to bone stock so i can retry this whole thing again...im talking relocking the device and redoing all the htcdev crap/root/s-off/rom again
thank you very much in advance for any help
Sounds like youre on old firmware. Flash the old firmware patch. If it doesn't help Flash the ruu. If you're s-off no need to relock at all. You'll need to have a Ph file for recovery unless you want to unlock

Best thing to do is run a ruu then it wipes your phone clean.

I had the sd issues after s-off and I never did the editing to fix the issues all I did to fix them was reflash amon ra then reflashed my backup of cleanrom and reflashed the kernel and rebooted then let it startup and then pulled battery and then restarted the phone and everything was back to normal sd card issue fixed. Try that it might work. Oh and I took the jhboot when it asked when it asked if I wanted to install it.

ok the old firmware patch seems to have worked...i really hope so cuz ive just about exhausted my AD&B keys...
ok so now that that has been taken care of, will it be smooth sailing from here on out? thanks for everything, especially the devs and hackers that made my headache even possible...
came from a droid x and that couldve been a hell of a device, wish there were an s-off equivalent to its ridiculous bootloader...but yeah loving the rezound dont even wanna return it even its mangled battery terminal...
ok spoke too soon...the sms reboots are gone...i can make calls but now the memory is back to being a problem...both internal and sd are showing as non existent...so do i now run those memory fixes again? or just wipe and install the rom completely from scratch again?

youre prolly on an incompatible hboot(cant mix GB and ICS)
heres what id do:
-run the 3.13.605.07 RUU
-clear storage in hboot
-install the ics jpbear hboot,if desired
-install recovery
-fresh start cleanrom 1.3
i just did the above to go from 3.11/1.2 to 3.13/1.3 and i have absolutely no issues. its smooth, fluid,sd card is there, never rebooted.
im not supposed to relock for this am i? do i just flash in recovery like 605.1 ruu?

ive got no clue what youre talking about. ruus are flashed i hboot, not recovery. what ph98img did you install?
again,heres what id do:
-run the 3.13.605.07 RUU (not flash a rom)
-clear storage in hboot
-install the ics jpbear hboot,if desired

-fresh start cleanrom 1.3 (wipe cache,dalvic,data/factory reset, system, boot) do not install old firmware patch.
follow those directions exactly, and you wont have prollems. if you dont know what something means, ask.

That's a Rom. A ruu installs everything. Radios, boot and everything else.

despite many here misusing the term ruu, a ruu is an executable file run on a PC which does quite a bit more than a rom flash. Run one of the Ruu, out wit until Verizon releases a real ruu for ics, which hopefully will be Wednesday.

Despite however exceedingly helpful once again pointing out how many people "misuse" the term RUU may be.. This did not help him solve his problem in the slightest.
OP:
In the above instructions where he says "Run RUU":
-You will need to download the full ICS leak from android police or I believe there's a link here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631630
--There are instructions on that site on how to install the RUU.
Then follow the previous poster's instructions about installing a new hboot (if you want to, it is not required)
**EDIT: You do not NEED to do this, please only do it if you know what you're doing. I have had absolutely no reason to replace my hboot and I haven't had any issues.**
Then you will need to reinstall a custom recovery.
Then you can proceed with your wiping/flashing. I remember a previous poster saying to do a factory reset after updating to the new RUU. Not sure if it's required, but I did it and I'm not having any issues.
Hope this helps!
yeah thanks again and i found that original RUU im installing now...i wouldve updated my status earlier but the download took an hour or so...everything seems fine at the moment...its currently updating /system, but i did notice it relocked my device, and i still have s-off though...so my question is, do i need to worry about being locked if ive still got s-off?
UPDATE:
ive got a fully functioning phone now...thanks everyone for the assistance and patience...this has been the most critical mod ive done to any phone...dont know where it screwed up along the way but im gonna enjoy this for a while before i tamper with it again

[Q] Accidentally started first part of update

So I have Scott's CleanROM GBE 1.7.5 on my phone. I was wandering through my phone's settings, and accidentally hit something in the update area. I do not know what I was thinking, but I know I expected it to ask me if I was sure I wanted to update. So far it has only done the first part where it prepares the phone for the update. I do not know when the other part is coming but I assume it is automatic. I was planning on updating to a rooted ICS once I felt comfortable with it (just seemed a little harder than my original flash of rooted GB). So if it would be easier to just update to ICS some way now, I would be very willing to do that. I am s-on, I believe I installed Amon Ra, but I am not sure how to check and not sure if I have an actual recovery rom or not.
I checked around and found similar problems, but nothing really like mine since my update has not gone all the way thru yet. If anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated. THank you.
Easiest way is to relock your bootloader, run the newest ruu, unlock and flash recovery again. That way you will be set up to run any ics Rom without having to worry about flashing a patch

Ok just to make sure I know and don't mess anything else up. I relock (should be easy to.find a guide) . Then run the update on my phone? Then unlock thru HTC again, and flash the actual amon or CWM to my phone? And from there I will be able to flash any ICS Rom with more ease?
And thank you for the quick reply.
Edit: I searched the internet more for less-similar situations. I think all I have to do is re-lock. Download the newest RUU from Android police and put it in the root of the SD card as PH98IMG.zip (I'm assuming it should be the internal memory, but please correct me if I am wrong.) Hold volume down & power to boot into bootloader, then the phone takes it from there?
Also, nothing I have to do as far as unrooting?

Then you just have to press continue when it tells you to.
PS: Another way to get to the bootloader is to use adb (make sure USB debugging is enabled on your phone)
Command:
adb reboot bootloader
I find it easier than holding down buttons for a long time, but that's just my personal preference.
(Also, most custom ROMs can reboot to bootloader from within the ROM. I forget if CleanROM GBE includes the advanced power menu.)

Good advise, and if he RUUs to ICS, then he should not even get asked to install the update because it will already be installed on his phone.
Also RUU twice. Just reboot into bootloader right away and install the RUU a second time. Then boot up normally and remove the zip file from the sdcard.
Thanks, you all helped a lot. I was able to get the stock rom, rooted, and running smoothly. But, once I tried to install custom roms I had problems. I decided to S-off to make it easier from here on out. After a few tries, it said I had successfully done the S-off. I tried to install Juopunutbear custom hboot, directly afterwards and it said it installed but I was stuck on the Juopunutbear screen. After this, I have not been able to get past hboot.I do not think the custom hboot actually installed. It is saying from the top:

My external sd card needed formatting, so I just did that. And my plan is to RUU again (i guess twice), flash recovery (when clicked on currently, nothing happens), I guess root although I am not sure about this part, then try to install a custom rom.
Didn't want to make another thread just to check on this, but does this sound about right?
And as far as installing rom since I am now s-off, just go to recovery and flash it, nothing else at all to worry about?

The jbear hboot might have failed because you are on the newest global update with 2.27 hboot, and I believe the controlbear tool still has the 2.25 hboot. (someone correct me if I'm wrong)
I think there is an unguarded 2.27 hboot somewhere, so you should flash that manually.
Sent from my NeoMax Rezound
Right now, like I said the hboot says at the top 2.27.0000
When I reboot from there, or boot it regularly it goes to a JuopunutBear, black and green writing screen.
I have tried to install this forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1843030 ([HBOOT] HBoot 2.27 (from 4.03.605 OTA) Unlocked) from both, but cannot figure out how to do so.
edit: within JuopunutBear, wiping says "can't open" and applying update gives "failed to open loopdevice" and "failed to mount /sdcard" when I try to update.
Within the regular hboot, I get "no image" as it searches for files.
Well, I put the same file on a new sd card, and it worked on the first try, kinda.
Now it appears my phone is bricked. It will not boot at all. She barely lasted a few hours s-off before I messed it up. Any tips anyone out there can give to this sad fellow, or am I off to get a replacement?
A little more info on this. Windows tries installing QHUSB_DLOAD driver for it when plugged in, but unsuccessfully. The charging indicator does not come on either. Have tried to turn it on plugged in with battery out, and battery in both ways.

Wanted to post this in the NeoMax thread, but I am currently not allowed to. I gave up on my last Rezound, and am getting a replacement here soon. I did a bunch of reading before and after I got my Rezound, and a bunch more the past few days as I wanted to get an ICS rom. Unfortunately, the one time I deferred from guides I followed (installing the JBear hboot), I killed my Rezound. I now want to stay S-on, at least until I gain some more familiarity and skill with this whole process.
What I plan on doing is once I get the Rezound, installing the OTA update, possibly having to wait for it to do so. I assume this would be the newest, .2, global update. I plan to unlock, flash recovery, then root. The rom I really want however is NeoMax. There are limited instructions on how I go about this. But from what I understand I change the filename to PH98IMG and flash it from hboot? The file name is originally, GlobalRuuPH98IMG.zip, but the thread title claims ICS De-Sensed 3.14.605.12, which I believe is two versions prior. So here I am lost. If it is in fact older, I have to flash the rom through recovery, then flash the kernel, correct? If so, do I just use the 3.14.605 that was in the NeoMax thread?
Sorry to bother you all with what i'm sure others have done many times. Like I said, I have read a lot on this, its just that I either did not understand in the least what the guides were saying, or it seemed like this situation was much different. And on a side note, if there is any other rom out there that someone would recommend that would make this easier (such as being on the latest kernel), I wouldn't be opposed to trying it. I just want one that is desensed, as it is one of my main reasons for wanting a custom rom.

Don't worry, you're not bothering anyone.
The people who claim to have bricked their phones when they have a boot loop and say nothing about their rom and firmware are bothering people.
Keep doing what you are currently doing and people will always be willing to help you.
Ok, so back to helping...
Of you're starting on GB, make sure you update to 3.14.605.12 before updating to the most recent one.
If you update via OTA then you don't need to worry.
Keep in mind that NeoMax is based off of the 3.14.605.12 build, so you'll have to mix n match the right way to get it to work on the latest firmware.
I believe it was you have to use the new kernel if you use the new radios and hboot.
So after installing NeoMax, flash the PH98IMG that contains the newer kernel, not the 3.14.605.12 version.
Or use fastboot to flash the kernel. (my preferred method while s-on)

As far as which kernel, this is what was said in the NeoMAX Q&A:
Q: "I flashed your rom and my phone gets really hot after a while. In fact, Ive noticed it on all the newer roms lately. What could be causing it and how can I attempt to fix it?"
A: "Make sure you have updated your radio to the latest available and then flash the 2nd to latest kernel. This combination has been known to have the best rom performance for all my roms and decreased heat"
SO this means I should use the 4.03.605.1? And the newest radio will automatically still be on there from the OTA update, or will I have to flash those as well? I have no experience in flashing radios so this is new ground to me.

That QA is outdated.
It was referring to using the 3.14.605.07 kernel as opposed to the then-most-recent 3.14.605.10
Back then those two builds were similar enough that they could mix n match without issues.
Between 3.14.605.12 and 4.03.605.1 is a lot of changes. (whole number change to represent it) Specifically, new hboot and radios. Therefore, it is incompatible with the older kernels.
When you're S-ON you can't touch the radios except through an official RUU.
Even with s-off I doubt you can flash radios from recovery (not sure on this one), and NeoMax doesn't have any radio files anyway. (nor does any rom I know for this phone)
If you haven't yet updated to 4.03.605.1 then I recommend that you stay on 3.14.605.12 until Neo updates the ROM.
If you already updated, it is still possible to run NeoMax. You just have to manually flash the new 4.03.605.1 kernel after installing the ROM.

[Q] Trying to RUU to update my firmware not working.

So I'm currently on Flyhalf's CM10.1 (S-ON), and I checked the recommended firmware/radios for the ROM and realized I'm outdated. It calls for Hboot 2.26 and radio 2.23.10.0123r, 2.23.10.0124r. but I'm on 2.25 and 1.22.10.0421r/1.22.10.0424r. I just updated to the latest version of the rom and I keep getting random bootlooping as well as the rom being way more unstable than the previous build I was on for about 4 months.
So, I'm trying to use Wildhorse's guide to updating firmware through RUU in hopes that it will solve my problems and it just plain isn't working. I've put the RUU in my external SD as PH98IMG, waited for my battery to charge to 90%, shut off the phone, pulled the battery, then gone into Hboot to flash it but I keep getting "No Image or Wrong Image" and it just goes back to the main Hboot screen every single time. Can anyone explain to me why this is happening even though I'm following everybody's directions exactly? I've been searching through the forums for about 2 hours now and I can't get an answer.
I'm still kind of new to HTC devices and how they work, so if anyone could help me figure this out I'd be very thankful.

You are on a leaked firmware, the currently available RUUs are all older than that, and you can't go back when you are S-ON. You need to S-OFF then you can RUU back to 3.14.605.12 and then OTA back up to the current 4.5.605.14

Okay, I was really hoping that wasn't the case. I hate to ask for more help, but I don't really understand how I'm supposed to get S-Off when I need to be on the stock RUU to do it, and I can't get on the stock RUU because I need to be S-Off to do so...
I hope I'm not stuck this way. Technically I'm on all the same software as I was yesterday, but now I'm getting random reboots all the time as well as bootloops that either go on for ten minutes or never end. I was on a build of CM10.1 from may with Amon Ra recovery, then tried to flash the newest TWRP that requires the new firmware (didn't realize I was on older firmware) and it bricked my phone. So I put on an older CWM recovery, tried to backup and it froze in the middle of every backup it tried to make. Put on an old TWRP, backups worked, so I flashed the newest version of CM10.1 (again not knowing I didn't have newest firmware) and that's when the bootlooping/rebooting started. I recovered to the old version of CM10.1 and the issue didn't go away, so now I'm just trying to figure out what I can do to get my phone in a usable state again.

Hey, wait a sec...
My bad, I just double checked, and with that Hboot/radio combination you are on stock ICS firmware already! Just RUU version 3.14.605.12, that should work without issues if done correctly and you should be back to pure ICS and can then allow the OTA to upgrade you in a few steps to 4.5.605.14

Oh, thank god. Hahah. I didn't remember ever flashing any leaked firmware before, so I was kind of confused there. I figured I may have done it somewhere in the unlocking/rooting process and just couldnt remember. Okay, thanks again for the help. RUU's have always confused me with the way they work. I should be stable in no time hopefully.
And now I'm having more issues... I can't use the Rom Updater because somethings wrong with my usb connection. I can plug it in and transfer files and such, but trying to use any ADB commands results in "Device not found" and the Rom Updater says it can't connect to my device either. My HTC Drivers are up to date, so I'm not sure why this is happening. Is there any way I can just get the PH98IMG.zip for 3.14.605.12 instead of having to use the RUU?
Not really sure what you are trying to run, I didn't think there was a 3.14.605.12 executable RUU, but use this page and instructions and grab the file: http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...cream-sandwich-ruu-for-final-ota-3-14-605-12/
Remember you will need to RELOCK the bootloader if I am not mistaken it is possible to hard brick if you don't!
Then copy to external SD card, name the file PH98IMG.zip (beware of the Windows "double zip" issue), verify MD5 on the SDcard, then reboot into hboot and go. Do it twice!!! Let it boot up and sit for about 10 minutes to calm down, then remove the PH98IMG.zip file from the SD card. Everything should be smooth sailing from there...
You should then be S-ON, completely stock. You will need to unlock again to do anything more

Strange, re-locking the bootloader was all I needed to get the RUU to update in my bootloader. No one else said to do that in any of the instructions, but I did it and immediately it started updating with the PH98IMG that I was originally trying to flash (from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38527788&postcount=745&nocache=1&z=1965375486761331).
I'm back to stock now, but firmware is 4.03.605.2, not 4.03.605.14. Is that going to be an issue or can I go right ahead with re-unlocking the bootloader and flashing recovery/roms?

Well, I have some good news and bad news...
Bad news is you are now on a leaked firmware and will have to S-OFF to go up or down in versions unless a full RUU is released for the current OTA of 4.5.605.14...
Good news is you are the global leak, and you can use the JuopunutBear S-OFF exploit from http://unlimited.io/index.htm just as if you were on the original ICS release. Also, you can S-OFF and use most ROMs and recoveries as you are now on a global mode firmware.

Lol, all right, I would have tried to get the right firmware on there but my phone got so buggy that it wouldn't even boot into the rom anymore. So I couldn't get it on the SD card and I had to make do with what I had on there. At this point, I'm just glad the phone is usable again and I might leave it stock for a while. Thank you so much for all your help, I couldn't have figured this out without you!

Cool, glad you got it working.
That firmware is actually pretty decent and rock solid stable, you shouldn't have any more software related issues... Plus you can root/ROM like normal from that version, the radios may be slightler lower than most recommended versions, but they should work fine. If you do decide to go the ROM route again, I would suggest going S-OFF before starting, it will just make it easier in the long run.
Hey, just wanted to ask some questions as a follow-up since this seems to be the most relevant (and active) thread to my issue:
Long story short, got a new (to me) Rezound. It was running CM10, from the forthnightly thread. New SIM card from Verizon and I was getting data, but the no mobile network found error. After reading the threads I could find on the error, went with the suggestion of a wipe and so I did. A few too many beers while reading thru the forums, and I did the wipe a bit too thoroughly. Now I have a no OS found, and instead of thinking I know what I'm doing I'd like to ask to make sure I understand this correctly.
Currently, the phone is S-OFF, with TWRP 2.5.0.0. It's saying I'm not rooted, but then again no OS to be rooted. The dump from my bootloader is as follows:
*** TAMPERED ***
*** LOCKED ***
VIGOR PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-2.28.0000
RADIO-2.23.10.0123r/2.23.10.0124r

After checking this thread and this one here it looks like the following applies:
* I can just run the regular RUU (executable) to load a stock image without having to revert back to S-ON first.
* I will have to re-unlock the bootloader thru htcdev after RUUing
* I'll need to reinstall TWRP
Is this right? Am I missing anything?

Okay, that's good to know. For now though, if I just wanted to get my phone working, make sure there's not a SIM issue and such I could go back to a stock image without worrying? I just would rather do a lot more reading and make sure I understand what I'm doing before I try to put a rom on and screw things up further.

S-off is S-off... installing a RUU wont change that, it may set you back to 'Locked", but you are S-off so it doesn't matter, you can stay locked&s-off and its no different than unlocked/S-off.
If you are going back to stock and are S-off I would use the Global Mode Leak (4.3.605.2) available on AndroidPolice and flash in Hboot... rename file to PH98IMG.zip and place in root of SD card (how it gets there is a irrelevant) then reboot into Hboot, confirm and wait.

[Q] Help Stuck in Bootloader

Hi guys.
I was trying to do one of two things. Either get to stock ICS with the RUU or get to an older stock version so that my phone would update itself.
I ran the ICS RUU and ran into an issue. Im on Hboot 2.28 Radio 2.23.10.0123r/2.23.10.0124r
I am S-On and relocked to get run the RUU.
I got an error as it said the Hboot version is older. Now I am stuck on the Bootloader with TAMPERED, RELOCKED, and Security Warning.
I should have known that I potentially had a leaked Hboot version but it was so long ago I forgot.
What can I do? Iv been googling and searching threads without much luck. Do I have to S-off? Can I S-off from this position? The other issue I keep running into is dead file links.

So I think I found out what I did. 2.28 is the Global version. I must of rooted that version and flashed roms. I wanted to unroot and get back to stock software version.
Where should I go from here? Is there an RUU for the ICS Global? I can not seem to find one.
Have you tried unlocking the bootloader again?
Edit: I searched for a long time (a few days ago) but couldn't find any information on S-Off, not going back to stock for people on the latest OTA. I'm not the best person to give advice, but if you're on the current OTA, I don't think you can use the RUU.exe.
Also, you can't downgrade if you're S-On - only upgrade..

Yes I can unlock again and that does get me unstock from the boot screen but still cant get where I want. Hmm.
I wonder if you can fastboot-flash the older kernels, using a computer, then flash the old stock ROM, lock the bootloader, then run an RUU.. Can anyone confirm this? Sounds too simple to work on an HTC phone.
Edit: No, of course that doesn't work. Sorry, I can't really offer any more help.. I'll have to just hope that someone more knowledgeable can take over.

Be prepared, I get rather long winded.
If you were on the most current 4.05.605.14 with S-on which based on what you list as the radios and hboot is what it appears you were on, then you are in a difficult spot. The really bad news is the only RUU you would be able to use is the 4.05.605.14 and no one has admitted to being able to get ahold of. The most current one available is 3.14.605.12 but that is useless to you. You would have to S-off to go back to stock but would have to have a working rom to do it. It's not impossible but it aint easy. I just had to do it about a month ago when I was trying to S-off my replacement Rezound. It came with the most current stock ROM and I didn't bother reading up on the current ControlBear method. In the past, you had to have a rooted rom in order to S-off. So of course, I unlocked the bootloader, flashed AmonRa 3.15 and then used superuser to root it and then went about trying to S-off. I couldn't find my previous windows based versions of ControlBear so I went about making a live cd ubunto disk and trying to S-off. It wouldn't work. Then I read the unlimited.io site instructions and found that the current version needs the unrooted stock rom to succeed. I really never paid attention to unrooting before because if I had to do it, I could always just run the factory wipe and root would be gone but not this time. It kept showing that I was rooted. So I tried wiping data, cache, dalvik cache, and after that didn't work, I wiped the system. Very bad move on my part. Now I couldn't get past the bootloader. I thought I was done for because I knew with S-on, there was no going back and the global rom RUU was still not available.
After trying all kinds of things I ended up
1. downloading the 4.05.605.14 stock rooted rom listed HERE (Thanks MicroMod777) in the Rezound Development section.
2. Then downloaded the current firmware.zip from HERE (Thanks Flyhalf205) and then extracted the recovery.img along with the hboot .nb0 file from it.
3. I then created 2 separate custom ph98img.zip for each so I could always reinstall the stock hboot and the stock recovery.img.
4. I extracted the boot.img from the rooted rom and flashed that first. I don't remember if I did it via adb in fastboot usb or with another ph98img.zip and then
5. I made sure that my bootloader was unlocked and then installed AmonRa as the recovery
6. Then used AmonRa to flash the stock rooted zip file. I then wiped the cache 3 times and the dalkvik cache 3 times.
I let the phone reboot and I was back to a working phone.!!! Then I found out that it was rooted with SuperSu which gives you the option of doing a full permanent unroot which I did. I then put that ph98img that I had made that had the stock recovery.img on it and flashed that in the bootloader. After rebooting I now had a fully stock phone and proceeded to do the S-off. I left the bootloader unlocked as directed by the unlimited.io site. I had limited experience with ubunto but found THIS PAGE that helped walk me through it. I followed it exactly and ended up with an S-off phone. One thing that wasn't clear to me was how to open a terminal in ubunto but I figured that out after trial and error. IIRC, I clicked on the home tab on the left and then in the search box, typed terminal. The first icon that was shown was a terminal emulator and I used that for the commands.
Now I still wasn't finished. I ended up relocking the bootloader but didn't like the relocked and tampered flags that were showing. So I ended up running the most recent RUU (3.14.605.12 found HERE and I now had a ***LOCKED*** bootloader and then let the phone reboot. After it rebooted, I hit the home key and bypassed the setup. I then got into settings and then into software update and let it update. It did a small update and then had to repeat the reboot, bypass setup, and software update. This time it did the global update. I let it reboot but this time, I ran the setup. Once I was up and running, I again went into bootloader and reinstalled AmonRa and used the 3.16 version and made sure to do a nandroid before doing anything further. After that, I got ahold of SuperSu 1.51 and flashed that in the AmonRa recovery. I now had a ***LOCKED*** stock rooted Rezound and several nandroid backups of both fully stock and rooted. Which turned out to be a great idea because not even 3 weeks later after this, the phone started malfunctioning (power button) and a problem with the camera so it got replaced and I had to put it back fully stock. I was already setup for this. I unrooted, put the stock recovery back on, and made it S-on. When the replacement came, I immediately unlocked it, did the S-off (only took one try), relocked, ruu'd back to 3.14.605.12, updated to global rom, flashed AmonRa, and restored with my most recent rooted nandroid. and I am back up and running a whole lot sooner...
I hope this helps.
Very much so! Thank you. If I could hit the thanks button 10x I would.
Im sure im not the only only to have the Hboot 2.28 issue.

This guide was FREAKING AWESOME. It led me to finally after 2 years go S-Off (wire trick) to do RUU, etc. Have to return phone and have already got replacement. Crossed my fingers and everything looks stock stock stock !
