[Q] Team Win Recovery mytouch 4g slide - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I currently purchased a phone that I believe is rooted. When I power up it just remains in the tmobile screen. When I go and do a factory reset it goes into this team win recovery program. It doesn't seem to have an OS and I just want to get it back to factory settings. In the loader screen it indicated that s-on. Im new and don't have a clue how to get this back to factory. PLEASE HELP
Thanx in advance
Jason

Need to wipe all in recovery, flash a ROM of choice (and anything else required like gapps) then reboot to the bootloader and flash the kernel with fastboot

Will this put the phone back to factory. I know this sounds dumb but how do you flash the rom and kernel.

These are instructions that will work for almost (depending on what TWRP(TEAMWINRECOVERYPROJECT) version you have) any ROM. So first tell us what version you have.
Then do your homework and find your device's android development section and find a ROM you like or one that is mostly stock, or just stock. Make sure you find/ download a flashable .zip file. Then download it and if it requires gapps (it'll say on the op(original post) of the ROM thread) then download those too. Then put these files on a microusb and pop it into your phone and flash via recovery. Stop. Don't reboot yet or anything.
Now. How much do you do android. Do you have adb/drivers for your phone yet? Reply as you figure all this out and we will help you through it.
Back to the guide. You are still in recovery after you flashed thing(s). Connect to computer and go to adb or just terminal and type adb reboot bootloader or just figure out how to reboot into fastboot with your phone (using the volume buttons or something).
Now. You are in fastboot mode after you have flashed file(s) in recovery. Go to the rom zip you flashed and extract it using 7zip. Take the boot.IMG and throw it in your folder your adb is in and type what the first guy said and then your all set.

Thx for the help...the twrp version I have is 2.2.2.1
now before I start my phone is in s-on is this ok? I was reading that a lot of roms wont work with security on.
Also I tried the pg59img.zip which is how to unroot my phone. I put this onto my sd card directory and ran but it didn't do anything.

since you have s-on that just means you have to do the fast boot part. if you have s-off you can stop after the recovery part. I think that is a high enough twrp for any firmware released yet. so you're recovery version is good. but id leave s-on because its hard to get it off sometimes and it keeps your phone more or less safe from becoming a brick. yeah all the zip does is delete su binaries i think... root just means you can have access to more partitions. if i were you id keep root. root itself cant hurt your device it just enables you to be able to do bad stuff to your device, but also goooooood stuff. so the culprit for your phone not working is likely just a bad flash so don't blame root, no need to unroot, you just need to get a good rom working. continue through instructions and reply as you have questions/uncertainties.

I just bought this for my wife and she doenst need anything complex. She likes the original tmobile OS. Id like to get it back to that state.

Okay then just look in your section for the latest stock in a flashable zip. Try the android development stickies or the android general stickies maybe the q&a stickies. Look for something that returns you to stock and steal the zip link form that tutorial. I've gotta go for a few hours. If you want when I get back I could find one for you sometimes they can be difficult to find

Go to the mt4g slide developers thread and download miktouch or bulletproof, both are based of stock T-Mobile os with some small improvements, being they use the stock kernel you shouldn't have to bother with fastboot.
Personally I find having all radio secure flags removed is best but to each their own. And if you want true stock (which is horrible on this phone) it will require extra syeps

I really do appreciate all the help. I was able to flash cm9 but now I get stuck in the avatar screen. It never goes into the os. I am assuming this is because of the boot. Can you please explain how to boot and how to get out of being stuck.
Thanx again

Download 7zip, its free. Take the ROM that you flashed, use 7zip to extract the contents, you will see something in there called boot.img , this is your kernel.
Go into fastboot mode through bootloader and connect device to PC, open up cmd in the location you boot.img is
Now in cmd type
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
All should now work

If you don't have fastboot installed here is a link for a simple install for windows, also there is a link there to a fastboot how to use guide that I made for both windows and linux

Ok im almost there..Im in cm9. The original problem with this phone is the software doesn't see the charge of the battery. This is why I wanted to go back to factory default. I can let the phone sit with ac power, and the amber light never turns green. In boot mode I can let it sit for a long time and it wont die (off the battery only). Ive tried 3 different batteries, 3 different chargers all with the same result. Pins cleaned. Is there a way to calibrate the battery in the software? Is this software related (bad rom)? Again the amber light does indicate a charge and in the sw it shows a ligntning bolt through the battery but indicates 0% charge. Any help is appreciated.
Thanxk

battery
Swwwweeeeeeeettttt..I never knew that you have to leave it on for sometime to reach full charge status..Even though I had it on ac power charging the battery all night without the rom.
Nevermind all. TY so much for all the help and info. Im confident that I know enough to cause some trouble.

battery
Sorry I was mistaken. When powered up the phone will charge (seems slowly) the battery. But as soon as I power down, remove the charger, and power back up it loses the charge and shuts down. Any suggestions.

Try an external battery charger, if it still fails its the contacts or the logicboard

Ive tried the external battery and same issue. Could it be in the software. I don't get how it will remain on in boot mode with no charge for hours.
But when I go into cm9 and put it on the charger itll say charging...As soon as I remove the charger it shuts down.

Battery
Also a note...If I go into battery it says 0% - charging usb but the usage is insane
Screen = 75%
cell standby = 16%
Driode system = 6%
Is this the reason it cant charge? Im really at a loss here..Please help.

Phone will never charge in bootloader mode
Screen always takes up majority of battery use
If you have tried different batteries, different usbs, different ROMs, then all that's left is to see if there are malicious apps eating up battery and causing wake locks or assume its hardware.
Only two radios to pick from here, you can try whatever one you don't currently have but the only real safe way to change radios is with fastboot and you'll need soff for that

[Q] Lost and totally confused about S On 1.5

I did my research on how to install ROMS with a locked S On and Kernels, but just got even more confused about the process. I am coming from an Evo 4g CDMA.
I have H BOOT 1.5 unlocked S ON. My back up was lost. I tried to flash something like the newest MIUI using TWRP 1.1. w/e. I can't get past the boot screen for MIUI. As I was reading up on the forums, it seemed to me that you had to use a program called Flash Image GUI to get a kernel going on a ROM. Though, here is where I was confused. If a ROM has a kernel in it and I flash the ROM, does the Kernel part of that flash not get set up as well?
Would I need to flash the rom like normal from the SD Card then use something separate to flash a Kernel? If so, I am kinda boned. I can't get into the phone, just the recovery and can't get that program installed on the phone Trying to flash up Xplode now to see if maybe I just got a bad download.
If these questions were answered, please forgive me, I did try to find the answers, but as I read up more and more, it was getting to be more and more confusing to my personal issue at hand.
Thanks for the help!!
If you grab the kernel from your Miui zip, it's in the zips root called boot.img
Put that into your folder with your fastboot exe
Boot into bootloader the same as when you flashed the CWM
Use fastboot command... fastboot flash boot boot.img
this will flash the kernel and you should be able to boot up properly
Oh, well that is the problem. I had someone else flash TWRP for me. Guess I need to find out more on how to flash up that to get the kernel going. This S On thing is a massive PITA, lol. Guess once I get the phone up and going and I can use that program, things will be way easier

I see. i skipped the how to part since i thought you had alrady flashed the CMW your self, it's fairly easy.
you need..
1) to install the evo 3d usb drivers.. filename HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe .sorry i don't have a link, i got them off these forums somewhere
2) you need the fastboot.exe , again search google/these forums
then shut down your phone
pull battery out, then back in
hold down volume- (minus) and then hold the power button as well, only let go once in the bootloader, choose the fastboot option then insert usb cable to phone->pc .. you should see fastboot-usb message come up on your phone
then you can type out that fastboot command in the previous post from a dos command prompt, from the directory with your fastboot exe and boot.img
It's easier to put rom you want on the SD card make sure debug is on.
Adb reboot bootloader . Now
Fastboot boot recovery.img now wipe and flash rom you are good to go man. Works flawless .

What I did, which can help out other 3D noobs is this:
Since I just unlocked and have no back up, my kernel was still stock
Downloading a stock rom and moving it to my phone via comp, twrp recovery mode>> USB Toggle allows you to connect to PC! Put the rom on the main part of the SD card and just flash like normal.
Here you should be able to boot up like normal again.
Let me say, Flash Image GUI is a noobs friend till you can learn to use adb more.
I was told you can put a Rom on your card and just flash allowing the kernel to flash as well. I have not had success with this with HBoot 1.5 S On.
Flash Image GUI:
Download the rom you want, Aosp to Sense is fine.
Open Flash GUI and choose the Browse option.
Locate your rom on your card and choose it.
The app will give you a message saying the rom is big yada yada, say yes.
Wait a few moments as it finds the kernel. Once it does, choose flash Image.
Choose reboot recovery and flash the exact rom you picked with the App. Reboot and win.
This is just what I, a noob, have found to work.
I have NOT been able to just flash any rom on the SD Card and have it work. Flash Image UI has NOT been able to get Virus' Rom to load
A's I find more noob friendly tips I can report.
Thanks everyone else for the input! I won't lie, I came from an Evo 4g and am totally lazy as I am used to S Off and just flashing away. S On, I hate you. ADB, I fear you. Flash Image GUI, I want to marry you!
CDMA 3D, I wish we had more AOSP lol
Hope this helps out some people.

ADB is pretty simple to flash with lol
All you do is keep a copy of the recovery.img you are using in your adb folder...
You hold shift down right click on the folder that adb is in platform tools folder is where it's at say open cmd prompt to it. That is the fast painless method
Make sure you have a rom on your sd card.... Also that debug is turned on...
Plug phone in hook to computer...
ADB:
adb reboot bootloader
now:
fastboot boot recovery.img takes you into recovery...
Now wipe don't wipe SD card...
Flash rom your set works on virus roms and any other rom 0 issues
Also Flash GUI works for everyone nothing wrong with it....
I just prefer Good Old Adb to do my work If you need any help feel free to ask man.. I'll do what I can to help ya out if you get stuck..

You can not flash some ROMS through ADB/Fastboot with s-on, it just doesn't work no matter which way you go about it. Flashing a recovery is easy but that was not the OP's problem. The "noob" way that the OP suggested is the only way to get roms with custom boot.img in the zip to stick. I just installed CM9 and ADB/fastboot was of no use. Getting into recovery is easy but will not provide results unless you have used FlashImageGUI.apk first on a working ROM.
Nether CWM nor TWRP work to flash such ROM's with the right boot.img. You must use FlashImageGUI.apk!

Dah da dat ta ta! (Swoops in with my 2 cents)
See the Guide/Flashing Notes in my signature for a walkthru for flashing roms, recoveries, etc. All up to date. Choose your method: fastboot & recovery or flashimage & recovery.
Note: TWRP 2.0 with Dumlock is a workaround to avoid using fastboot (pc). FlashImage is not a requirement, its also a workaround vs fastboot.

There is the HBOOT downgrade. I have ZERO linux experience whatsoever and thought the process was very easy. I know it says to 'brick' the phone, but it is honestly not that scary. I have done two of these already both being successful on the first attempt. The live cd by closeone actually takes care of almost everything, except for actually doing the brick. Trust me being on 1.40 s-off is much much nicer.

After flashing the success kernel my phone won't boot? I'm on 10/2.
You haven't specified which is your phone model, as some device's bootloader is locked and some not.
Installing kernel in Samsung devices (Unlocked bootloader) is pretty easy, you just have to flash the zip from CWM recovery. Or if you have got a boot.img make a flashable zip (There are many tutorials over here for that) and flash it.
Another option is, replace the boot.img of your Custom ROM zip file and flash.

This is the correct answer to every question asked in here so far!!!!
There is no "generic Android way" to do what you're asking for. It can change for every single phone. And if you flash the wrong thing, you may permanently destroy your phone! And if your phone has different variants, be sure to get the version specifically for your exact phone! For example, flashing something for the wrong Galaxy S3 can kill your device in an unrecoverable way because where the kernel goes for one variant is where the bootloader goes for another variant!
If you don't know exactly what you're doing, then don't do it and go learn more! Experiment first ONLY with step-by-step tutorials for your EXACT scenario! If something's different, don't do it!
yeah read into this a good bit more before you do this. look in your phones forums for a guide. you mess this up you phone becomes pretty useless.
I'm a little worried now, and a bit rushed this morning as I have a funeral to attend this morning.
Bottom line, my phone has a blank screen now. It gets past the boot animation, but goes blank after that. I cannot get into recovery or boot loader by pressing the power/vol down buttons. I have done a couple battery pulls, but of no help. When I connect it to my PC, it does not show up as a disk drive, though it did say installing drivers.
Google flashable kernals and put in android sdk folder then go to cmd andtype fastboot flash name of kernal.img. I 90% sure.

This is the kernel I need for the rom I downloaded,

So what is being said is that I need to put this on my sd card in the android sdk folder, the flash it through the command prompt. Is this correct so far?

You need to flash via fastboot like u said Android SDK Folder. Just need to flash the boot.img follow what ROM u flash.
Extract the Boot.img from the ROM.zip u flashed.
Put the Boot.img at SDK folder which is same with fastboot locate.
Boot ur phone to BOOTLOADER -> Fastboot, then using command promp fasboot flash boot boot.img, then reboot your phone..
Here is where I'm at with this.
After letting my phone sit all night without the battery in it, I still have the same problem. After the boot animation, the screen is black. I tried to connect the phone to the pc, but my computer does not see it. I also tried to use a card reader, but still my computer does not see the card either. The reader is working because I put another sd card in it and it saw it.
The thing is now, I can get into the bootloader and recovery, though I now seem to have Clockwork instead of 4ext, which is what I had before I started having problems. Clockwork sees the card as well.
I don't know how to get anything on the card now since I cannot connect to the pc, either through the phone or through a card reader.
Anyone have any ideas?

I have the HTC EVO V 3D. It's rooted and S-off.

Wiped System?No OS on twrp2.2

hello
First time, Long time. Just managed to install twrp2.2 and it is a nice ui for any sytem. But my issue is rough.
I was going to install a new rom with a Merto pcs service flashed over from Sprint. Unlocked S-om with rom manager on it
when I received it back. Read alot and many peple claim it is ok to stay with 1.50 so-on, others say to go back to 1.40.
I managed to root the device per maxs evo hacks and until I installed and accidently wiped kel/cashe, System by accident,
Anyways I even tried removing the 8 gig sd card and used a fully backed up same card to try and get recovery img file to boot into.
No luck because it goes into a screen that says (Parsing...[SD ZIP under that it says [1] RECOVERY . Then , Do you want to update
up=yes , down = No. Tried yes and continues bootloop.
Then I tried putting back the other sd card and that allows me to go onto the twrp ui but no ofixes that I know of or can do.
Can anyone help me, I will look out for you, really.
Thanks in advance. D-ACman Florida.
If I read correctly, you need to take out your SD card and put into a PC to remove the pg86100.zip img off of it. Put it back then go back to the bootloader and go to recovery. After that, flash a rom.

wipeing my system along with cashe/kalvik/ and complete wipe, I somehow wiped the bootdrive of what it is telling me is the is no OS
installed si I'm at a loss and I k now if I can get into trwp recovery I can get a Rom either stock or other to be read and installed.
Each time I get bootloops and what I'm thinking is I should have take fastboot off when try to install an ICS rom, but that is still not the issue
I just believe I wiped eveything because of the statement on twrp ui that there is no OS installed.
I really appreciate whatever feedback and instructions you can give me. Just tell me what to try or do and I will
Thanks very much.
Download twrp recovery.img file. Put into your adb platform tools folder.
With phone off hold volume down & power.
Once in the bootloader, select fastboot.
Open a command from your platform tools folder. Then type..
fastboot boot recovery.img
Then just flash another ROM. If your sdcard is wiped , just toggle USB mass storage in recovery & transfer from computer.
Hope that helps

Ok woke up early today and I had seen this type of fix on another page on Q&A. SO first I had to get the file but you cant just
open prompt and type a command but I k now I had to go to the tools folder after inserting the .img file. Ok did that.
Since I have always kept my SDk in the root of my C:dr it's easier to hold shift down and right click on the tools folder then I placed the commands and brother, for lack of a better word or terminology,--- Absolutlely nothing happens.
Now am I using the right syntax commands? maybe not but the way you gave me the advice I thought it might get the img file onto the internal
drive of the phone.
Man I tried to even put the trwpzip file onto the sdcard and install it, unfortunetly that did'nt work either. So when I use the file manager
in TWRP2.2 I can see the files in the root of the phone and when I go and tap on the inner usb dr I have no files that I can see. What I might
have to do is to take snapshots of the actual menus I am seeing and perhaps I can get help that way.
I know it is difficult when you can't see exactly what is on my phone screen.
What about the DUMLOCK method within the ui of twrp. I have to digest some info on that section for I have'nt a clue about what the
dumlock does but if it's in the twrp UI it must be of some importance.
I really appreciate what you guys are doing for me and wether I get it fixed with or without your methods I will definately give U points for
taking time out to read my issues. I have not mentioned that I also have a duplicate phone (My 1st EVO) and that one came with 1.40 H-Boot
as opposed to this one with 1.50. nevertheless it is a good feeling, I know, when you can get ur **** running and installing Roms like if it was
a candy store. Im an old school type guy, as far as age is concerned and I am a Self employed Sub HVAC/R TECH and I Love to play with
ANdroid and all that goes with Flashing. I just wish I would have went to school for Computer Programming instead of AC.
But it is what it is. Sorry for the long life history and thanks again, If U can figure something else out please reply. Thanks

Still on Bootloop

Ok here I'll try again.
Phone is Evo3d Flashed to Metro PCS
phone is unlocked and S-ON
TWRP 2.2 recovery
when noticed I was low on space on my micro sd card I then replaced it witha pny 32 gig class 4 sd card
It comes already formatted 32 fat but I did another clean format on the computer
I replaced or copied everything onto the new card then installed it the working evo 3-d
I was on mikV for a few days but once I got into leedroid tweeks I then decided to just flash my nandroid recovery and go
back to stock.
At that time I was on CWM 4040 or something to that affect.
I noticed the beautiful UI for the TWRP 2.2 and decided to use that recovery.
As soon as I decided to use another custom rom the **** hit the fan.
So now I'm back where I started and I am reading many posts where I think I need to go and relock the phone
then install the stock rom and hopefully that will work.
What I need is to get step by step on the command prompts and computer to recognize the phone
when I try to place the image thats necessary to do the "fastboot lock commands and that it is seen working.
That's where I'm stuck at and am going from this dell laptop computer to my desktop and start the ADK/SDK download
put it in the C: drive and hopefully In the cprompt it will communicate to the phone.
I there a nooby guide to the step by step command procedure to do this?

I plugged it in and yes, it charged! but I am gonna try the RUU now, ill tell you the results, really never encountered this before ;(
May I ask why you want to relock your bootloader?
If your phone is not charging, it's probably because your Recovery is not the latest to date.
@muhhh351
You should flash a Recovery known working on charging mode, the first releases were lacking this mode, but this is resolved now. Click on Frequently Asked Questions in my signature everything is there for you to find about HOX+ and their recoveries.

TWRP is more complete and a rigourously tested recovery. CWM was modded to work on the HOX+.
First make sure your SDK tool (adb) is correctly installed and also the HTC's drivers. (There is a link for a tutorial in my signature.)
Download the correspondent recovery for your phone International OR AT&T/Telus (N.B. Links are available in the Sticky FAQ)
Flash the Recovery.
Clear Cache
Reboot in Recovery
Install your correspondent version of any ROM.zip you want that is already on your storage. (Otherwise,Sideload a ROM to be able to flash one inRecovery)
Flash the boot.img of your desired ROM
Clear Cache Again
Reboot
Should work

I tried to be polite (anyway I am not allowed to talk like that, I never developed any sort of app, neither a ROM or kernel so I am not very qualified to judge others work), I'm sure you understood what I meant.
And yes I agree everything is way more complicated and unstable with CWM.
Please help. I'm having same problem. I can get into bootloader and fastboot and even successfully installed recovery but I can't get into recovery bc I always go to that white htc screen and no idea what to do next. Please please help me. I am on 1.15 software and 1.32 hboot and 4.1.1 Android version
Thank u

Reboot your phone in Bootloader mode (fastboot) you should have this 4 choices :
HBOOT
REBOOT
REBOOT BOOTLOADER
POWER DOWN
leave HBOOT highlighted then press the power button once, a new menu will appear :
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
FACTORY RESET
SIMLOCK
SHOW BARCODE
IMAGE CRC
From there with the Volume control (up & down) simply select RECOVERY and press Power button one time, your phone should Reboot in Recovery mode.
When in Recovery mode the VERY FIRST thing you will do, is a complete backup of your actual ROM and you will keep it as long as you gonna own the phone, so put this backup in a safe place on your computer and make sure to never delete it.
Thank you but the thing is.. I put twrp on it and version 2.3.3.0 and it won't boot in it. Any ideas why? Then I looked for a more recent recovery and I wasn't sure if this is evita?? So, basically I'm still unable to get into recovery and it goes to that htc white screen.
Btw. Your instructions are excellent

Is your SDK/ADB Tool correctly installed?

OK I will give you a trick...
Navigate to platform-tools of your SDK folder.
Right click and create a New text document
In the new text paste this : c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
Save it with this name : StartADB.bat (important to save it with .bat extension and overwrite the warning)
Now right click again on your new bat file, and create a shortcut to your desktop.
Now try to adb devices your phone via your new desktop shortcut.
Type this command with your phone plugged : adb devices
You should have your serial in return
OK I am doing that. Please give me a few MIN. Ty

[Q] Can boot into a "black screen" recovery and get ADB feedback but that is it.

[Q] Can boot into a "black screen" recovery and get ADB feedback but that is it.
Strange issue I have here, well it is to me at least, my fathers SGH-I777 the AT&t model boots fine and works when booted but the play store gives me the "no connection" on both wifi and hspa+ and there are a few apps that do not work and cannot be updated for android 4.3 because of the play store. All that is just a day on android and would be fixable if recovery worked. It had or possibly still has clockworkmod recovery installed on it, no idea of the version unfortunately. The first thing that came to my mind was to just update it, well, it cannot be that easy as the latest version of ROM manager does not work, it crashes on startup. So I decided to try ADB and I will get this back if it is in its black screen version of recovery mode
Code:
C:\1>adb devices
List of devices attached
0123456789ABCDEF recovery
C:\1>
and this if it is booted into android
Code:
C:\1>adb devices
List of devices attached
0123456789ABCDEF device
C:\1>
Kind of a side note but also the main issue, when I try to "reboot to recovery" or hold both volume rockers and the power button till to logo appears all I get is a black screen and if it is dark enough in the room you can see that the backlight is on. So I am assuming a corrupted file somewhere, I just need to get somewhere and so far after 3 hours of searching for a solution today I have not. I don't know where to splice this in so i'll do it here; I am pretty sure this is a result of my father having Cyanogenmod updater update from 10.1 to 10.2 without completely re flashing boot and installing from a "factory reset" device then recovering the data.
List of some other things I have tried:
installing the latest apk of the play store
installing the latest apk of ROM manager
not much else that I can think of at this time, but ask and I will either try it or tell you if I have and try again anyways. Not too urgent but thank you for being here xda .
I just read this "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1824419" and it looks like rom manager is not a good idea, still need to find a way to install the recovery though and I have no idea how to get fastboot to work without it.

Put in normal download mode by pulling battery and hold the volume down button as you plug the micro usb in. Reflash to stock jelly bean 4.1.2 using Odin and root with framaroot 1.42 and use aragon exploit and go from there....

Alright ill try that in a few minutes, just left the house.

Just a couple of points, which may be helpful if you are not very familiar with the SGH-I777. Recovery is built into the kernel, not in a separate partition of it's own, so you can't just install a recovery, you must install a kernel containing a recovery.
Rom manager is said to be OK when you have CM on the phone, but in your case it would probably be best to avoid it until the problem is resolved.
The solution 4-2ndtwin posted sounds correct to me. If it were my phone, I'd try that first before flashing back to stock.
