Oleophobic screen? - HTC Desire X

Hi guys,
I'm about to buy this phone for my gf. She likes my One S (the big bro of the Desire X) and wants a mid-range phone, so I've decided to go for the Desire X.
In particular I'd like to ask you if the Desire X comes with the oleophobic, anti-fingerprint screen as the One S. I've found this info nowhere.
Thanks!

Nope,it's a normal s-lcd screen.

I see, thanks... Is it very sensitive to fingerprints?

Well yeah, but you can clean them easy. I use my t-shirt and just wipe them out. There is also an option to buy a anti-fingerprint screen cover.
But i would go with the One S. Screen is better, internal memory is better, camera is better, ram is better, cpu and gpu also. But the price is bigger.
Here is the full spec and you can compare it to DX. http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_one_s-4574.php

Yes, I already own a One S!
The Desire X would be for my gf, whose budget is no more than 200€. She likes the Sense UI and HTC design, so I think the Desire X is the best (and only) bet. I was just wondering about the anti-fingerprint treatment because it's a really nice thing, especially for a woman.
Thanks a lot anyway!

I got a desire X off the advice off the guys here and i love it its a grate phone does everything i want it to do only had one problem with it the screen got the common fault with the dead pixels but htc took my phone fitted a complete new screen and front face of the phone and returned it in a week no questions asked so i would defiantly go for one also my mate has the desire c and when playing videos in a public place you cant hear the audio the desire x you can hear it clearly seems very loud

Thanks guys!

Yup,the def. go with the DX. Then the screen cover is your only option if you don't want any fingerprints. It's not really expensive.
The phone is really great.

[Q] Htc Titan replacement screen

I'm looking at buying a used Htc Titan, but the screen is cracked. I'm getting quite the bargain and paying for a screen on top of the phone isn't a big deal. I can't find any screens for the Titan, but I do know the Sensation XL has the same size screen. Now my question is whether or not anyone here knows of any replacement screens or knows if the Sensation's is compatible with the Titan.
http://www.amazon.com/Original-Touchscreen-Digitizer-HTC-Sensation/dp/B004XFISBG
I have included a link to the screen I would be buying to replace the Titan's, that is if it works. Thank you in advance for your time and advice.

I believe the sensation has a 540 x 960 screen. Not the same as a titan so I'd be pretty surprised if it worked. Si
I completely overlooked that...... Thank you so much for the info!

Should I go for Xperia S...???

I've using Arc for about a year now and now I lost it....!!!
I'm planning on buying a Sony Xperia S but I am paranoid becuase of the screen problem which is being discussed on different forum...!!! So my question is, " Is it worth to take chance...??? Should I go for it...???"
Suggestions guys...!!!
Well it's pretty much a lottery if you get the yellow screen problem. Also, if you get the problem, you always get it repaired as its an issue recognized by Sony.
I myself don't have the problem, but if i develop it I really don't care, as it could be sent in .
It's your decision. To me, I don't care, because it could always be fixed .

People here at Sony center in India are bloody illetrates, when I was talking to them about the issue, they were trying to convience me that there can't be any problem like that...!!! Lolzzz...!!! And I don't think I can afford to wait 15 day for a repair each time my phone develops such problems...!!! I'm gonna make sure they offer me a refund or an exchange then only I'll buy it...!!!

I was in similar situation. Being an SE design fan, got Xperia S. I just couldn't accept it after a week of trying hard. Phone felt too long, thick, heavy, lousy capacitive buttons, gorgeous screen, bad idea to have cover for USB port, etc. Got HTC One X and love it so far. Sleek like Arc, and the build quality is way better than any SE phones I've seen.
I miss the simplicity of SE ROMs but i guess i can go customizations soon. Waiting for screen protectors to start using it regularly.

I will have 2 phones. The XS and later the Galaxy s3 when t comes out. I will skip the HTC one X now. I love the design of the XS opposed to the boring outdated rounded corners on every HTC phone. Angular is the new curve.

Hi there
Could you be so kind to write a bit more comparing the two phones? I am trying hard to like my xps but coming from iPhone the hardware is a big step back. My mine worries would be the screen on the one s now getting used to my xps.
Kind regards

I tried the one x and it's normal htc. Give you the highest spec hardware and that's it. Love my arc and Xperia S way ahead of one x. Lol

While build quality of one X is better along with specs, I prefer my Arc over one X. At the same time I prefer One X over Xperia S. 4.2 to 4.3" screens are about the perfect size for me. Any bigger means stress on my thumb when pulling down the notification bar. Hope I will get used to One X screen size over time.
Unfortunately, Xperia S design has too much bezel before the screen starts at the bottom. That pushed the top edge of the screen very high making One X screen feel easier on thumb when using notification bar.
I just like Arc so much more and I might actually consider getting Arc C if ICS runs smoothly on it when it rolls out.

I didn't have problem but after using Arc, it just didn't feel right to own a thick one. SE set the trend for thin phone with Arc and when everyone is making thin phones they went back to making a thick XPS. I am not sure what features made it be so thick and soooo long. HTC One X has all features XPS has and still is as thin as Arc.
I think its just the right thickness, but i like having a firm grip of the phone. Coming from HTC Legend btw
Screen is downright amazing, and the only thing i can name as a con is a steep adjustment curve from hw buttons to capacitive buttons.
Y'all have a nice day!

Coming from a One S, is it worth to upgrade to the One X+?

From the title itself, is it worth to upgrade to One X+? I mean, one downfall of the One X, is faster battery drain compared to the One S.. and the One S seems to be so much faster than the One X, but now the One X+ have a different chipset and now having a 2100 mAh battery.. do you think it's worth it? I've read some posts in the One X+'s forum that the battery is improved but not that much.. but now, they managed to have 4-5 hrs screen time, which is not by far from the One S.. and the JB and Sense 4+ is buttery smooth compared to the X's stock.. can the One S still beat the One X+?
Btw, i also do like the 64gb storage because 16gb isn't quite enough for me being a mobile gamer and a music lover, that's why i'm considering the upgrade..

If I get the money and I can unlock the One X+ on O2 I will be selling my One S and getting this. 1000x better screen way more storage and faster chipset. Battery is never going to be as good but the One S has a q hd samoled display so it's going to last a long time.

Haha yea, the battery life is better many reviewers have said. Not amazingly better because the cpu is more powerful on the one x+ so most of the added battery power caters for that. Should be able to get a day with it which is the main thing . I want it badly as well lol. Was thinking about the nexus 4 but it's just problem after problem after problem on the n4 forum!

For starters OP the HOS was never faster than the HOX. It's like my mum trying to say her dual core centrino laptop is better than my quad core i7.. This is just something HOS users have invented to make themselves feel less insecure about buying a cheaper phone. ( Not that they need too. The HOS is a great phone). As for the battery. My friend owns a single core HTC SXL. It has a great battery life because of it's lower power. Now my HOX+ can pretty much go blow for blow with it in terms of battery, and lasts longer with the power saver mode enabled.
End of the day, it depends how you use your phone. If you use it as a phone/browser/media device. There is no need to upgrade. If you want to play the latest games or show off to your friends, your best upgrading to a HOX+ / SGS III or Note II.

Well that's a very professional answer, compared to some HOX+ users here who treat other people who have inferior phone to theirs, as dumb ****.. i really appreciate your response sir..
Now, about my plan to upgrade, after what i've heard from you, i really want to buy the HOX+ asap. i realized that 4.3" screen, 16gb storage and a battery that barely last a day with moderate use isn't enough for me.. before i bought my HOS, i really like the One X but i've read several reviews like in phonearena, gsmarena and here at xda that there are so many issues with the HOX like the short battery life, overheating problems, and the camera lens being vulnerable to scratches because it is really protruded, so i just bought the HOS. But seeing all that spectacular specs of the HOX+ and all the great things it has to offer, i fell out of love with my HOS.. and because i'm really a heavy user, mobile gamer and music lover, then the HOX+ is the perfect phone to upgrade to.

On my HOX+ the rubber around the raised camera bezel is just slightly raised compared to the glass. So when i put my phone down, the glass never makes contact with the surface. I don't know if this is the same for all HOX+'s though, as i have read threads by people claiming that there camera is not centered on the back of the phone. But from my experience with the HOX+, the quality is great. I guess you will just have to cross your fingers and hope you get a good model

It's good that the camera lens protrusion is now solved in the HOX+, and yes i've also read that some models, the camera eye isn't centered, i guess i have to inspect first the unit i will get before i pay for it. Good to know all issues to avoid before buying.
Btw, i never consider the sgs3 nor the note 2 because: 1) i was never impressed with the build quality of samsung mobile being plastic, it looks very cheap. 2) touchwiz UI isn't appealing compared to sense UI, i don't plan to root my phone yet within a year so i can't live with it's UI. 3) the One X+ looks sexier and more premium than any other samsung mobile. 4) sgs3 and note 2 is too mainstream, over rated, and almost all people use this and braging that they have the best and the latest phone out there, i don't want to be one of them. 5) super-lcd2 is more appealing to me than samoled, (though it's very ironic because my One S have samoled).
So i guess i will definitely get the One X+ if i can sell my One S, then i could get the money to buy one.. i'm afraid my One S will never have a JB update because it isn't one of the flagships today.

[Q] Potential HTC Desire X User

Morning all,
I was wondering if anybody can help.
I'm looking to purchase a HTC Desire X or maybe even a One X. More likely the Desire as that is more within my budget. I've read good reviews about both phones, android capability is what I'm looking for and they look good. The only thing which is putting me off the Desire is the 4 GB of memory. I understand you can store extra data on an external card which the phone has a slot provided. However, I was wondering whether this is a hindrance at all. For example, moving stuff to memory card, is it easy etc
Phone use will be mainly for Camera, some internet browsing, e-mail, GPS & hopefully google nav if I can get/or download onto the phone.
Many thanks in advance.
Pedro
For your use ..desire x is good..moving data is easy n you will have good full sense Rom with file manager n more access by ckpv5 and others...you will get good battery too..but I would really suggest you to get a s3...as gaming and screen quality is what attracts more after getting an android...I got an s3..+ it has lot more memory and functions you may like...+ GPS is better and also 3g n WiFi speeds..as I tested by myself..so you can start saving money ..

Pedro. HTC Desire X is a nice performer for its price tag. But it has, in my opinion, 2 main disadvantages: bad quality pictures (compared to competition) and lack of front camera (for video chat or auto-portrait pics).
In the same price range and size, a SGSIII mini is a good choice nowadays (under 300 euros).
HTC One X and SGSIII are bigger and more powerfull phones with great specs (over 400 euros).

Hi Pedro,
I went with the Desire X for budget reasons as it was on offer during the New Year's sales and I like HTC's designs. I thought I'd get a fairly basic phone with many limitations. I couldn't have been more wrong. The phone is very good considering the price. Sure it doesn't have a powerful processor or super duper specs, but I found it to be surprisingly adept at handling anything I throw at it. It might not be able to play some of the higher end games (there's a thread in the forums detailing people's success with those), but it's more than adequate for all-purpose smartphone use including the sort of things you mention.
ROM development for the phone is still in its infancy, but there are already some great ROMs to choose from. And moving things to the SD card is trivial. You can also get a utility app like App2SD to inform you whenever you install an app to move it to the SD. Android's 'Move to Storage' feature makes it super easy.

Sorry. But my older Samsung Galaxy S (released in 2010) take better pictures, specially video recording.
I don´t know about Xperia Sola, U, etc... but I was expecting much better pictures than a 3 year old smartphone (SGS).
However, I´m still happy with the Desire X cause is fast, nice looking and very handy with a 4 inch screen.
HTC desire x has da best 5mp camera so far...I have shot most insane piks...burst mode..is damn awesome...one thing everybody forgets to mention is da sound quality....the beats audio which u won't even get in Samsung s3...sound matches..well it outruns actually to dat of apple...desire x won't let u down u can definitely go for it

There's no point to check on a midrange smartphones like desire x over high end devices if you have $$$. When in the end you will say "I'm regret buying this midrange device I should have gone for one x ohemg I'm stupid blablabla."
Add: to answer your questions, trust me 4gb of internal memory are more than enough to store apps and games (1gb to be precise for free use). I have 40 games and over 20 daily apps and I still got 340.18mb of internal storage and I haven't move a single of apps and games yet to my sdcard not even once.
If you're that worried you gonna run out of space which I doubt on desire x. Check out link2sd. Seriously guys check it out. It's somewhere here on xda and google play.
Oh btw, as much as I love HTC now I suggest you go for the S3 instead of one x. One x has A LOT of battery complains than S3.

I'm very happy with my Desire X, especially with a custom ROM installed. Plenty of memory left, no problems for me at all. Also the size and thickness of the phone is imo perfect.
I don't use a front camera, so I won't miss one.
For me it's well worth the money.
Hello everybody.
Didn't realise a full scale debate would erupt after my initial post! However, I am on a technology forum
To answer a few questions, I am on a budget and the S3 did look good coupled with the reviews but I've purchased a Desire X today for £153 inc P & P which I think is a steal. I'll be in touch with my findings once I receive the phone.
I appreciate everyone's comments and views especially vogonpoetlaureate. I won't be using the phone for games. (I just don't play them at all). So in theory, I shouldn't have any issues.
Would I be able to use google nav as sat nav in my car? (Should I be able to download of course.) Apologies if someone has already answered that If I can, is there an accessory to mount it?

I believe you can use google nav in your car. There are a lot of accesories to mount your device, but most of them are universal.
I don't know if there's an official mount yet, but the others will work fine.

For that price, HTC Desire X is the best smartphone you can buy!
Another minor flaw it has... no compass. If you are using a nav app, when you stand still, it may get a little bit lost cause it does not know in which direction you are heading, until you start moving.
So, in my opinion, the 3 cons it has: lack for front camera, lack of compass, bad speakerphone (BTW, I don´t like Beats Audio) are really minor for a great looking, nice screen, fast and handy smartphone. That´s why I bought it.

It gets hot, that's true (and kinda strange.... )
The camera isn't that bad (and absolutely enough for the use you're gonna do of it, e.g. posting photos on FB)
If you are looking for similar sized phones you can consider the GSIII Mini, considering the fact that it hasn't got Sense customization, and for a HTC user it can be kinda disappointing (I used to have a Wildfire S, when I bought a Xperia go I was so disappointed of sony customized UI that I replaced it with the Desire X)
Just a thing... please improve your english..

I'd recommend it if you can get it for £180.
However if you're willing to go for a few quid extra I'd go for the GSIII Mini or a little bit more than that you could get a Nexus 4...
As Matyt said, the device gets hot and it gets pretty annoying and unpleasant.
We have received updates for this device, and most users now have a Jelly Bean update.
Moreover our device gets the Linux 3.4 kernel with Jelly Bean meaning we'll be able to run the next few releases of Android on our phone whether it's officially or unofficially.
We have lots of progress on the AOSP ROMs front as well, with CM9 almost fully working and CM10.1 in the works.
In terms of developer support, you can't go wrong with the DX
Thanks for your advice im geting more tempted to get the desire x now do you think there is a way to fix the overheating and do yuou think this could shorten its life?
once i again....
if you dont have too much money and want a nice - cool , fast phone...not in a shoe size...you better buy it!!!!
it gets hot but not in critical points....
for the money you will pay you will get a very good phone
and lately a lot of developers are working on our phone...so we will get jb roms aosp and others..which will make our phone twice faster
from what you ask...this phone suits you!! A LOTTT

thanks for all your help nice to see a bunch of friendy guys who know what there talking about who can give real advice
mine doesnt over heat until i play an intense 3d game. and that happens to all the midrange phones i know of. Its only major compromise is on:
- no front camera
- no digital compass
- no 720p video recording (although playback is possible)
But dont forget the positive things:
- fast processor
- Good camera lens and low light snapshots
- HTC Sense (although lite version)
- Ram is higher
- Screen colour reproduciton is v good. (although not very bright)
- HTC Sense
- JellyBean (Upcoming in some regions - Damn you HTC)
- Light and beautiful design.
I agree with neXus PRIME. I havent had the issue of the phone overheating.
The phone is absolutely amazing in my honest opinion. Except for the front camera and htc full sense. Although i would advice you to check this link regarding the white noise (hiss sound) on some of our Desire X.
But that has never annoyed me at all as i barely noticed it. And after some search on Google, the white noise seems to be a problem or some kind of sacrifice introduced on almost all mobile devices to compensate and even out other weird sounds. I think there is a video regarding this which is on one of the pages on that link thread.
There is nothing else to disregard Desire X as an awesome and handy and comfortable device for those of us keen on getting a quality phone within a budget.
And once again if you want to compensate for all the con points neXus PRIME has first mentioned in the above thread, then by all means buy a Samsung Galaxy S3 mini.
I have come from a Wildfire to the Desire x.
The perfect move.
The DX camera is 10x netter than the Wildfire
I am glad i Made the move.

It important that you are 100% happy with your purchase...my advice go with your heart.
the Desire X is a nice phone has everything that you need and will receive updates for at least 4.X(not sure about official but surely unofficially).
about the heating that can usually happen due to prolonged usage at high frequency of the processor(our default governor is performance hence the reason slow down scaling and rapid fire upscaling).
this can be fixed by moving to interactive governor(better ratio of scaling) or/and changing the scaling governor to conservative.
though this problem might persist if you play games/use apps that have a high processor demand(usually very graphic intensive).
there so my suggestion is to look for a device that has the following points.
1.confirmed jb update(this gives it a better chance of getting 4.x future updates).
2.Strong developer comunity.
3.possible working method for rooting.
4.custom recoveries.
5.good specs vs price ratio.
for me the Desire X ticks all these boxes.
but in the end the choice is yours.
Good Luck,
Dark Passenger
The phone is far better with the JB update, from my own anecdotal experience. I was unhappy with it on ICS. I'm still not impressed with Sense Lite that we were burdend with, and had I known about it at the time I would have opted for another device.
There are many positives about the phone, it is very cheap and it works OK for the price. If I had more money I would go for a Nexus 4 though.
The other reviews above are good, but I'd add in the actual handset is not very comfortable in your hands, especially for extended periods, and the screen feels less responsive than the one on the old Desire (Bravo). It is very plasticy and the back cover feels very cheapo and fragile.
It's a grand Android phone, it costs next to nothing (comparatively) but the performance is fairly low end and there's an air of cheapness to the whole thing. My Nexus 4, GS3 and other devices feel far superior (though to be fair they are). My One X JB update slowed down some fairly basic functionality for me and I really didn't like it after it updated. I've a concern that HTC are rushing software or it is too fragmented for them to release solid ROMs for their devices.
I use the DX as my day to day out and about phone and it works fine for the most part. There's nothign major wrong with it, just a lot of little niggles here and there. Some of which were fixed with JB update!
If you want a very cheap phone for basic surfing, facebook etc and won't be installing any particularly big games you'll be fine with this device.
I went to get the desire X on sataday and was told by the shop that they do not keep them in stock as they are such a bad phone that they nobody wanted them but from what you guys said it sounds like hes talking out of his ass

i never do i sent a nice email to there head office saying how there staff ignored evreyone in the shop untill they all waked out then when i came back an hr later the palce was empty and then was told its a rubish phone but you guys on here seem to be loving the thing so im just looking for somewhere elce to buy it from but there isnt any other place i can find that sells it so i may have to bite the bullet and buy it from them
Personally, i hate the phone. I regret buying it everyday. Hell, even my old Galaxy S was a lot better then this piece of crap. Don't recommend buying it.
I find it Amazing that some people take so much effort and time to come onto a forum and talk rubbish.
You can go onto virtually any forum, IPHONE, Galaxy 3 and 4 forums, you will always get people there with problems, mostly user related.
You also get the chops who also go onto the various forums and say this phone is the biggest rubbish just for the kick of it.
To the one who bought this product, surely you dont compare it to Top of the range Galaxy, Sony or Iphone.
Compare apples with apples.
The Desire X fits into its own market, It delivers just what is expected of it . Accept that or buy another phone that will suit your needs.

'Delivers what is expected of it' Yeah because when we spend $300 on a phone we all expect a software update that will break one of the phone's main selling points.

This is not, hate desire x forum. I like dislike a lot of things. But this phone ISN'T crap. I've tested many equally costing devices from others and they can be called crap. Let us all stay on topic. Our frustration with jelly bean update n bugs shouldn't make us so narrow minded so as to neglect all the good things about it.
Peace.
