[Q] Can't access notification shade - HTC One X+

I recently bought the HTC One X+ and decided yesterday to install a screen protector on it. I took the phone to a mobile store where the employee used some liquid to install the screen protector, I thought that it was no big deal, I've seen them install it this way a lot of times. The screen protector was installed and everything was fine, but about an hour of using the device.. the screen started glitching as if the notification shade was being rapidly pulled down and up, so I rebooted the phone because I thought that it may have been a bug with the ROM I was using, but after the phone fully booted, I couldn't access the notification shade by pulling it down, so I flashed Cyanogenmod (still thinking it might have been the ROM) but that didn't work...
Now the touch on the top edge of the screen is broken and I have no idea on what or who to blame.
I still haven't removed the screen protector because I'm not sure whether I should return the phone to the mobile store or just remove the screen protector and hope for the best.
What should I do?
UPDATE: I removed the screen protector half way and wiped the top of the screen but no luck :/
UPDATE 2: I give up! it seems that I have a dead zone (a perfect rectangle on the top edge)
right now I'm looking for an app that will allow me access to the notification shade by pressing the power button or long-pressing the home/back button. Anybody knows any?

Well to test if it is really a dead zone at the top of the phone underneath the earpiece, go to an app that has a horizontal orientation. Rotate your phone, and the status bar should then be along one of the sides of the screen instead. See if you can pull it down from there. If not, then for some reason you have a defunct notification shade.
If it does work, then see if there is an app that you use that will show that the zone is dead (again in horizontal orientation; you'll basically just need to change what the parts of the screen does to troubleshoot).
In the mean time, there are launchers such as Nova Launcher that allow you to add icons and set gestures to access a variety of options, including bringing down the notification shade. I personally use a down swipe on any part of the home screen to bring down the whole notification shade without having to reach to the top for it.
If you really have a dead zone on your screen, see if you can't get some help with that, because it is beyond me.

I actually can access the notification shade in landscape mode, with the help of an app I confirm that there's indeed a dead zone at the top edge of the display. My problem was that i couldn't access it in portrait mode in apps other than the custom launcher. Right now I'm using GMD Gesture Control and with a two finger swipe down I am able to finally access it but my current problem is using the device with only one hand (I can't swipe down with two fingers while using the device with one hand you see)

wouldn't removing the screen protector be the easiest way to discover if the protector is the one causing lack of sensitivity or if the device has truly been damaged?

I did remove it...
I also did some research and it turns out that pressing too hard on the screen was the main cause, so I'm going to return to the store again because of that goddamn idiot

woops, didn't see your updates. Sorry!

I finally figured out how to expand the status bar by long pressing a button thanks to this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.friedflow.statusbarexpander&hl=en

bump this thread up.
just had this problem and tried searching for a solution, only managed to find this thread. running a fully stock phone.
software 1.17.707.2, android 4.1.1. tried rebooting, shutting off phone and leaving it off overnight and turning it on in the morning.
the only app i installed within the last week was castle clash(and since uninstalled it, doesn't work).
using the developer tools(pointer location), realised the dead zone was across the whole drop down notification bar (y coordinates of 0-98 out of 1280)..
anyone has encountered a similar problem and has a solution?

[Xperia S] Parts Of Screen Don't Respond

I recently recieved my Xperia S back from Sony today as I had the yellow tint issue. That seems to be gone 'fingers crossed' but it seems like I now have a more annoying issue
The bottom right of my screen is less sensitive than the rest of the screen. For example when unlocking my phone I find it very hard to get the unlock icon from one side to the other. It gets to about where the camera Icon is and then it goes back to where I dragged it from. It take me about 5 attempts to get it unlocked.
Also when draging icons on the homescreen to the far right position on the homescreen dock and I can have some trouble picking up the icon or moving it there.
I've found a part of my screen that doesn't respond at all! On the app drawer the icon next to the sorting option (Manage Applications button) doesn't respond at all. I've tried clicking it over 20 times and nothing has happened. If I drag the status bar down over the icon it doesn't recognise that my finger is touching the screen and then the status bar falls the the bottom of the screen.
I've tried restoring my phone and trying a newer firmware but the problem is still there. Did they do something wrong when they put my phone back together? Is there anything I can do rather than sending it back to Sony?

[Q] How to remove "2nd" screen on lockscreen? Widget? (Attached Screenshots)

[Q] How to remove "2nd" screen on lockscreen? Widget? (Attached Screenshots)
With my new note 3, I noticed when I turn the screen on and pull the lockscreen down, another screen pops up with an accuweather.com widget attached to an "Upcoming events" calendar. At this screen, if you swipe from right to left, another screen is available with shortcuts on it. How can I disable this 2nd lockscreen? Many times throughout the day I swipe my screen to get into my phone and I end upbringing up this 2nd screen by accident.
Secondly, I have another issue with the lock screen. On my Note 2, I would get a notification... email, facebook etc. from the lock screen I would pull the notification bar down, touch the notification I wanted to look at and the phone would leave the lockscreen and take me to the notification. however, with the note 3, I'll do all of the aforementioned and nothing will happen. I have to swipe open the lockscreen and THEN I will be able to see which notification I selected. Is there anyway to correct this? I hate having to swipe the screen open to see the notification I selected from the notification bar.
I have forcefully uninstalled accuweather widget and 2nd screen is still there. I have disabled all widgets from the lock screen and its still there. I don't know what else to do. Any help is appreciated.

I don't know about your situation but if I swipe my "first" lock screen left to right, I never see the second screen.

1.) Don't you just long press the said lock screen widget and trash it? The only lock screen widget I can't seem to trash is the favorite apps but it doesn't bother me. I don't use it but it doesn't bother me.
2.) I also would like to see if there was a immediate work around with this but it is my understanding this is how the mop flops and it is what it is.

Literally the first setting under lock screen in settings is to disable this... Did you look there? Just click the on switch to off for multiple widgets...
As for notifications, it's to prevent pocket unlock, I don't think there's a way to disable it

you are correct. Usually when you want to get rid of a widget you will long press it and it will kind of pop off the screen and you can drag it to the trash can. However if you look at the screenshot I provided, that weather widget on my lockscreen if you long press it nothing happens at all. There's no way for me to get rid of it I have been playing with my phone for 3 days now disabling just about everything in the damn phone and it will not go away. I just want a regular old lock screen with no frills and nothing on it. just like the one I had on my note 2.

will you try something for me? From your lock screen, I want you to swipe it open but touch the screen just below the notification bar and see what happens. If I swipe it left to right in the middle of the bottom of my screen it will unlock the phone. If I swipe it at the top of the screen where the clock is it will swipe over to a different page that has widgets on it. I have went into my settings and into my lock screen settings and disabled everything even the widgets and it is still there.

Just tried it. Just below the notification bar and to the bottom of where the clock/weather would be, nothing happens when I swipe left to right. Below that, swiping left to right opens the lock screen as normal.

Check out these pics. When I swipe at the top of the lock screen like I asked you to do, you can see a WHITE BOARDER around the time. When I swipe that, my lock screen slides to the right and I see a widget. When I swipe at the bottom, the phone unlocks as normal. And as you can see, I have EVERYTHING turned off that would trigger that widget.

Exactly. I don't like it and I don't want it. I don't want to be able to swipe to anything except to unlock my damn phone. Drives me nuts!
There's a simple solution to this. Don't swipe the top twenty five percent of your screen. That's the only part of the screen that has that issue. Swipe in the giant area on the bottom half of the phone. What you're asking for is to go back a version or two of android. The widget lockscreen is part of the operating system

so·lu·tion [ sə lsh'n ] 1.way of resolving a problem: a method of successfully correcting a problem or difficulty
My problem is that the screen exists. A solution would be to get rid of it or disable it from being available as a choice.
And, I am NOT asking to go back a version of Android. I'm looking for a workaround to remove that "part of the operating system" or disable it.
Surely, if one can manipulate an OS to be able to load different ROMs, Kernels etc.... it can be manipulated to remove the widget screen rending the lock screen a TRUE lock screen.
Go get an iPhone. They have useless lockscreens. The widget lockscreen is insanely useful, if you don't like that clock widget then put another one there, for instance I have a widget there to constantly be able to control my music and o have it set when I swipe the screen to the left my camera is right there. It's like that to make your life easier. I don't even understand why it annoys you, a "true lock screen" as you say would have you only swiping at one specific point on the screen, as long as you swipe anywhere but the upper part of the screen your phone unlocks fine. You were literally just asking to have a way to get into notifications without having to use the lockscreen, if you ask me that's not a true lockscreen either.

Not just you. I have it too. Very annoying. Completely stock, no root. I turned on multiple, but now when off it stays with the same widget as yours. Trick is not to turn it on ever.

OP asked for assistance. What you are offering has a lot of definitions, but helpful or a solution is not one of them.

Remapping screen back/home buttons to the HW buttons

The only reason I want to upgrade from an S3 right now, to either the S4 or the G2, is due to the larger screen size. The N3 is a little big so it seems these two are the only logical options.
I upgraded from the Galaxy nexus to the S3 purely due to the fact that it did not WASTE screen real-estate on black and white static icons. Frankly that is the absolute stupidest use of the screen there is. Samsung has it right by continuing to keep the buttons off screen.
So, the only way the G2 fits the bill (for probably many people) is if one of the following two solutions can exist:
1. The nav bar is totally transparent. The buttons still register when you tap there, but when browsing or watching video, the frame or text completely spills behind the buttons as if they don't actually take up space. Still not ideal.
2. The buttons are taken off screen fully and remapped to the rear HW keys. One volume key can be the back button, and the other can be the home button, etc. To change the volume, you gotta drag the software slider. Not a problem. I believe there are many button remapping apps in the market. Anyone tried this?
Is there an app to do these things? Can this feature be built into a ROM? For solution number 1, the nav bar can be hidden using a feature like PA has, and an app can just have a virtual transparent button floating where the original ones were. This app might also just exist in the android market.
Can we work on getting the entire screen area useful on this large phone?

I had the same mentality as you before deciding on the G2. There is a solution.
You will have to ROOT first.
GMD Auto hide app. This app will completely hide the software keys. They only appear when you swipe up from the very bottom of the screen.. or just tap the very bottom of the screen. You chose that in settings. The software keys can be made transparent as well.
Im currently using the app and love it. Works perfectly.
Without root... i dont think there is a solution.
I just use the navbar mod that shrinks the navbar down to either half or a third of the size. That way they take up hardly any screen at all.

I've used the Xposed Module - Ultimate Dynamic Navbar (available on play store). Looked to have more customization options than GMD (can have up to 7 buttons on the nav bar, for example, and more options for configuring long press of the buttons). But anyway, overall concept is the same as GMD.
And so far, i am loving it. Nice to have the full screen real estate at all times.
And root is so damn easy on this phone.

I considered Xposed as well... but i thought that method just let you adjust/resize and theme the soft buttons.. but i wanted to completley hide them and have them reappear with a touch/swipe of my finger and then go away again. Xposed can do that as well? I just took a quick glance at the thread and figured it couldnt.

The xposed module Ultimate Dynamic Navbar can do all that.
it's on play store, but i just found it here on XDA. Note to self - remember to ALWAYS check xda first before you pay! although, i like the app so far, so it's worth the money.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2270198
EDIT : One note - on the G2, I've found you have to use another Xposed module (like g2 xposed or gravity box) to hide the stock nav bar first. At least right now.
I'm already using G2 xposed to remove the volume slider in drop-down, and for transparent status bar, so I already had it to make this change.
I love the software buttons because you can customize them and have various animations and actions. I agree with the wasted space but I root and download "tex_Droider" from the Play Store and change the DPI down from 480 to 400. This will make everything smaller and more roomier... including the Nav Bar.
Then I downloaded Flashify and TWRP Custom recovery. Flashed with Flashify.
I downloaded a Smaller Nav Mod. I used the "Medium" size since I already lowered the DPI. You can use the small size too if you want it really small. Boom.
I've played with hiding the navbar and using gestures and also that PA mod. I dunno just doesn't work for me. I use those buttons a lot and adding a swipe each time is a pain. Personally I wouldn't mind just having a transparent bar across ALL apps.
With ya player911, wound just using small nav bar. Wish I could add a couple more apps to the stock home swipe out.
With the G nexus I've tried making the nav bar about half. It worked except for the occasional mis-tap. Still it was annoying to have it cover up screen - on top of all of these options, can the nav bar be made transparent? I figure apps would have a hard time realizing what's going on so a solution would go something along the lines of first removing the nav bar to make every app draw full screen, and then adding a module that would create false transparent buttons simply overlaying the screen content at all times, rather than having a swipe or some other gesture pull the nav bar up or down. The false buttons could be in the very corners of the screen so as to not likely cover anything up.
The thing I like about the S3/4 is in dark conditions where you are being more tactile with the phone/case (I turn my softkey backlight off totally) your thumb rests on the edge of the case and rolls over to tap the softkey. It wouldn't be an issue to get used to the position of this virtual softkey by adopting the same behavior, it's just a matter of whether an app exists that will draw repositionable virtual transparent mappable "area" on the screen that would correspond to a button.
Don't think you're going to find one. Every app/game is different, so who is to say that where you place your "always there" transparent buttons won't interfere with an actual area you need to tap inside an app, game, etc. Even in the corners.
I would again suggest trying the auto-hide mods mentioned above. They do exactly what you are describing with the overlay, except you have to swipe or tap to bring it up.
Swiping is really not that big a deal. Ultimate dynamic navbar gives you the ability to swipe right to a button, so your finger never has to come off the screen. It's very fluid.
You could also try PIE. But what I like about the auto hide nav bar mods is that you can set the nav bar to toggle, so it stays up if you need to press nav bar buttons a bunch of times in a row. With PIE (at least when I last used it), you have to swipe for every button press.

Can't pull down the Notification bar

Hi, I am absolutely new here and technically about android too.
Details about OS:
Sense 5.5 + 4.2.2 JB (Factory installed)
Things were good with my HTC One X+ for exactly 1 year.
Now it started giving problems...
First mobile got froze with notification window half dragged (when mobile was idle for nearly 2 Hrs), it won't respond to normal touch and keys. Power down didn't work too. Left it like that for 2 hours, then it allowed me to restart. After couple of restarts it became normal, almost. Now notification pull down won't work, with screen rotated - it works.
Tested with HTC tools and with ZTest, no touch sensitivity on the area where notification bar is.
Is it a HW issue or can be resolved by SW updates?
Please help me with this.
Digitzer problem, having the same.
Run HTC test app, it can only be opened by entering the dialer and typing hmm, *#*#HTCTEST#*#* I guess. Then there will be an option to draw lines where you touch. Swipe with your finger on your whole screen and probably a small area in shape of a rectangle at the top of your screen won't draw any lines.
Alternatively, you can go to settings > developer options and there is a similar option to draw lines.

I like the Screen off memo feature where I can pull out the S-pen and start writing notes without turning my phone on! But none of the icons at the top of the Screen off memo work. They are all grayed out, kinda. When I press them, nothing happens so I can't change the width of the pen or anything. I checked my settings and don't see anything different from my wife's Note8 and hers works perfectly fine.
Anyone know how to fix this? Below is a screenshot of my phone and here is a tutorial video from Samsung...

My note 5 had this feature. Love it to death
Try toggle the Screen Off memo option on/off...also maybe try it in Safe Mode to see if it works there.

By the way...read what I wrote in red below, weird but interesting....

True, a lot of people say they don't see the PIN icon. I don't see it if I'm on a call and my screen off memo works fine. But if I'm off a call the PIN icon is there but the screen off memo icons at the top don't work. BUT in SAFE mode all works fine and the PIN icon shows up. So I think we all have 3rd party apps that is screwing with the Screen off memo feature one way or another.

Thanks for the reply! I called Samsung tech support and they asked me to do the same same thing but still no luck. Here are the steps they gave me...
Open Settings>Advanced features>S Pen
Toggle the buttons on/of for (Air view, Direct pen input, Pointer, Screen off memo).
This didn't work. Then they had me power off my phone. Wait 10 seconds, power it back on and while it's powering on, press and hold the volume down key until you see the home screen. This puts the phone in SAFE mode. It says SAFE MODE in the bottom left of the screen.
Sure enough, while in SAFE mode the icons at the top worked. So they said an app seems to be interfering with this feature...
BUT I found something out while doing this...
IF I'M ON A PHONE CALL, THE ICONS AT THE TOP OF SCREEN OFF MEMO WORK FINE BUT THERE IS NO PIN ICON. If I'm off the phone, the icons at the top don't work and there IS A PIN ICON. ????? So what's that about? If an app is causing screen off memo not to work correctly, why does it work when I'm on the phone?
Then I pointed out that whenever I restart my phone I get a window that pops up saying Touchwiz crashed do I want to restart it. Definitely have some bugs....
Last, the tech said I can go into my local Best Buy where they can reflash my phone to see if this gets it working again.

Hmm. Do you use AOD? Cause the PiN icon only appears if you use AOD right? Maybe toggle AOD off and see if it's the same issue.
Will, taking the phone to get flashed @ BB reset your phone? If so, I would just try a Factory Reset beforehand...and see if that resolves anything.

Good point, I turned off AOD and sure enough no PIN icon. But the other icons still don't work on my phone. I then turned on AOD and the PIN icon is there. Other icons still don't work.
So you just figured out why some people don't see the PIN icon. They must have AOD turned off. BUT why would the PIN icon disappear while I'm on a phone call and I have AOD turned on? Maybe that's just my phone?
Last, Samsung tech said reflashing won't delete any info on my phone so I'll confirm this with them before I do.

That's cool. Guess you can check it out @bb after the flash...If it doesn't work, then Factory Reset there in the store...so maybe they can exchange it for you on the spot.
Cerberus App Interferes With Screen Off Memo!
The problem that was causing my screen off memo not to work correctly is the Cerberus app. Samsung in BestBuy fixed it!
After uninstalling a couple other apps that I thought it was I still had the issue but once I uninstalled this app which is an app that I like but I'll email the developer to let them know to see if they can fix why it's interfering with the screen off memo.
So I took my phone in to BestBuy and went to the Samsung kiosk and the guy fixed it in about 2 minutes. First he said he's concerned it's an app that is causing my issue with the screen off memo and then he told me which three of the apps he was concerned about and sure enough he was right. So he also optimized my battery and RAM by clearing the cache in the ram. At first we thought that is what did it but then the problem came back and I ended up uninstalling the three apps he thought it was and sure enough it was the Cerberus app.
Here's the reply email I just received from the Cerberus app dev...
"Hi Nick,
Sorry but the only way to implement the block status bar feature is to block touches on the top part of the screen when the device is locked. Unfortunately there is no way for Cerberus to realize that other apps are opened over the lock screen, such as the camera or Screen Off Memo."
One more thing, you can not pin memos if you use the edge clock
Hey guys, i found that there is a way to use the of screen memo with Cerberus status bar block. Basically the overlay that blocks that area does block most of the icons so they are unresponsive, BUT if you tap the very bottom of the icons you will find a small area that isn't blocked by the overlay. Just tap repeatedly in the lower area of the icons, it will definitely work. Once you know where to tap you won't have to tap repeatedly and you can keep that vital part of Cerberus security.?
Screen off memo pin option will on my written when to out have your Always in display turned on. If always on display is off, the option will not be available
