[Q] Rerooted Nook, Google Play, Kindle, and Me - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I've had my Nook STR for about a year now, and had instantly rooted it with TouchNooter. I did this in order to get the best out of my reading experience (mostly it was that its promised PDF reader SUCKED!). So in the process I also had my own tablet. When I received an iPad this winter I stopped using my Nook, but now I want to give it to my wife so she can have an ereader.
Now Here's my Problem
I decided to restore and reroot my Nook so that it could have a clean slate (it was draining its battery too quickly and had too many apps). When I went back to Google Play to download Kindle it wouldn't allow it saying it was already installed. Instead, I had to get it from the Market. Now the crux of the issue is that when I try and read a book that we bought on Amazon it is saying I need to upgrade my Kindle app, which goes back to Google Play issue.
Anyone have experience with any of these issues and have any solutions?
Thanks!

[Q] Gtablet Market pre-purchased apps

I purchased a few apps on my g tablet and re purchased a few I had already bought before realizing the market wasn't showing apps that I had purchased. I then did a test:
I bought an app
Removed the app
Used the market to try to download the app again
And the market wants me to buy the app AGAIN!!!
What can I do to fix this?
I'm running TnT Lite.
Does Vegan have this problem as well?

Are you purchasing an app for the first time? If you buy something for the first time, then immediately uninstall (within 15 minutes), then you returned the app. The 2nd purchase will be final and you will not be able to refund, thus it will remain in your library of apps tied to that specific Gmail account.
If some apps aren't showing, try this additional Market fix (in addition to the standard Market fix)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1020130
No I did not refund the app.
Example:
I bought beautiful widgets on my samsung epic.
Beautiful widgets does not show as purchased on the market app in the tablet.
So I purchased beautiful widgets on the tablet.
Now I re-flashed a ROM onto my tablet and market will not let me download beautiful widgets. It wants me to buy it again.
Make sure you are logged into the Google account from which you made the purchase. That's all I can think of.
I have purchased apps and have never had an issue like you've described - they travel to every tablet I log into and can be downloaded. That includes my GTAB with TNT Lite.
I honestly don't remember where I purchased them, but it was probably on my GTablet, most likely. I would also suggest verifying that the Google ID you used to purchase them is the ID being used on the GTablet. Also, my purchased apps always show up even before I do the Market fix.
Lastly, try this: https://market.android.com/account
You should see every app you've ever downloaded for your Google ID, including the purchased ones.
I decided to try Vegan since the market wasn't working with TnT, so I installed clockwork mod, reformatted the SD partition to 2048, installed Vegan (without the supplement) and tried the market.
Now the market remembers all my purchased apps, but the market was limited (not all apps were showing).
So I then installed titanium backup and did the titanium backup market fix. I rebooted and now everything is working.
I am choosing not to install the Vegan supplement because I read that the market isn't working correctly with it.
Hope this helps someone.

[Q] Third Party Apps and Nook Tablet

I have a fully rooted dual boot Nook Color and love it. I am interested in the Nook Tablet as well. I understand it has a locked bootloader so dual boot and custom ROMs aren't possible right now. I also understand it can be rooted and apps sideloaded.
Does anyone know if these apps will work on a Nook Tablet, rooted or otherwise?
Zinio
Pressreader
Spotify
Kindle for Android
NY Times and LA Times apps
Overdrive
Dropbox
Facebook
OfficeSuite
Slacker Radio
Hootsuite or Twitter
I am just trying to figure out if the Nook Tablet is worth upgrading to or if I am better off sticking with my Nook Color. Thank you!
ETA: I'm forced to wait 5 minutes to fix a typo? I understand the need to block spam, but that's really user unfriendly.
I have a non-rooted NT that I've tweaked to accept 3rd party apps. I've installed the Zinio, Kindle, Overdrive, and Dropbox apps on it, and they seem to run just fine. I say seem to because I haven't done a lot with them yet other than see if they'll open and run. They do and look like they'll run just fine.
Thanks for the reply! How did you tweak your NT?

By following the directions in an article at liliputing.com ["How to Sideload Apps on the NOOK Tablet (Amazon Appstore, GO Launcher EX)"]
No rooting involved; just uncovering and enabling a setting. Pretty easy. From there, I either downloaded some apps from Amazon's app store or sideloaded them by copying the app files off my smartphone, sending them to my gmail account, and accessing my gmail account via the web browser. A bit time-consuming, but not very difficult to do.
Very helpful! Thanks so much.

[Q] Play Books - Book Purchase Vanished

Hi
As above, a book I purchased during the sale a while back has vanished from my Play Books app, and the purchase history, and I can't see a way around getting the book back without re-purchasing it.
The book was previously on my device fine, but once I flashed to Slim ICS and went back to download all my books, this one (Girl with the Dragon Tatoo if you are interested) would only download 94% then stop. After endless removing and re-downloading the book to 94% it just removed itself from my purchase history, even though all my other (admittedly free) books are still there.
Is this just a DRM problem from flashing and redownloading too many times?
Apologies if this has already been answered, searched the Q&A section and found no topics.
Thanks in advance

[Q] Nook Shop not Installing Apps

Ok, so, yes I am a rooted user of the Nook Tablet but before I rooted I purchased some apps on the Nook Shop and thus primarily use that to install and update them rather than pay for them twice and all.
I recently had some issues with one of the apps so I archived it and then unarchived it. Only to find that it would not install again! It just hangs at the "install" tag below the app icon in the Library. I can download books and magazines from the Nook Shop and apps appear to download but hang on the install process.
I am running v1.4.3 and I am pretty sure this must have something to do with my rooting of the device. I really can't imagine going back to a non-rooted device and don't really want to buy the apps again. I have tried this with other apps in the Nook Shop (free ones like Skitch and Evernote) only to find that they do the exact same thing. In fact, any time I want to even update an app that is in the Nook Shop it does this.
I'm really at a loss here.

Since no one else has replied I'll give you a thought. I have never run 1.4.3 so keep that in mind.
My guess is the process you used to root did more than just root and therein lies your problem. I think 1.4.3 may be smarter about changes than previous versions.
Otherwise think of other changes that you may made and not mentioned build.prop, etc.
All of this is just guessing but may give you a new way to look at your problem and find a solution. I have seen this complaint several times but didn't read the posts because I had nothing to offer; maybe you could learn more with a search.
Good Luck!

Clear Market Apps

Has anyone else had the problem of not being able to pull down apps from Google, because Market (or Play, or whatever its called) thinks they are already installed?
I recently got tired of constantly fiddling with my GTablet to get it to work, so I jumped on the bandwagon and bought a Nexus 7. I NvFlashed back to stock (with CWM, though), hoping to throw it on Craigslist to help fund the newer toy. However, I wanted to make sure some of the basic functions, like google play books will work. But when I go to google market, it thinks any of the apps that I had on previous ROMs are still there, and doesn't seem to download them. I've checked in the Settings->Applications though, and my GTab certainly doesn't think any of them are still there.
Any ideas for why google has gotten confused?
