Need video player that can play m4v - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know if there is a video player that can play videos in the m4v format (aka apple's DRM files)? I have been searching for a converter for Windows that can convert the m4v to MP4 so it can be playable in Android but all the ones that I found can't. So I am looking for something that can at least play the videos.
Sent from my C6506 using xda app-developers app

VPlayer(Free) can run m4v videos
For a good windows video converter, try any video converter
If I helped you bro......hit the "thanks" button

[APP] YouTube (HQ)/720p MKV Playback

This is old, but I haven't found any related threads so just confirming that 720p MKV playback works flawlessly on the Xperia arc (all builds, firmwares). Unfortunately, it's only with the PAID app DicePlayer: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.inisoft.mediaplayer.dice
It works with all the efnet MKVs I've downloaded (TV shows) but failed with some Blu-Ray ripped MKVs with embedded subtitles.
It's available as a trial to test first: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.inisoft.mediaplayer.trial
YouTube 720p (HQ) also works flawlessly.
HDMI output/mirroring is put to good use with 720p playback (and yes, HDMI output works on any display/TV, not just Sony).
Hi,
I just tried playing one 720p .mkv file ( an old Sienfeld episode) and it does not work smoothly neither with MoboPlayer or DicePlayer .... only works in software mode with both players.
Not all mkv files are the same, so I will try more .....
just tried again with 3 files, two were samples from movies 70mb and 25mb and one full episode, about 400mb , all of them 720p mkv.
NONE played ok with MoboPlayer or DicePlayer, actually both worked only in software mode, video was laggy, sound was delayed or totally crashed. One of the files played almost OK and I think is just a matter of bitrate. It would be very good to know if there is one player that can use hw acceleration for .mkv 720p files.
Well .mkv is just the file container. You'll need to check what codecs are actually used for audio and video compression, if you want to find out what works and what not.
You are right.
mkv is the container. The most usual codecs are .x264 and VC-1
But if the bitrate is too high the files will not be properly played
I use MX Video Player to play videos.
It uses HW acceleration if possible and if not software decoding.
Mx video player is the best player at this time
Just download
1) MX video player Pro 1.3C apk (This pro file easily available just search in Google)
and
2) MX video player Codec for AMRv7 apk (This file is free in market just search in market)
Only MX Video PRO can play HD videos in the proper way? I've just started it out on my Dell Streak 7 and the video was lagging. :/
Best MKV 720 Video Player till now .
DicePlayer Ad.
thanks a lot, I'll try it out!
I'm using MX video player on neo v and is working fine.
Select the Mobile BRAVIA Engine while playing mkv files.

i'm using "Kascend Video" player..play smooth with 720p MKV video..^^
BSPlayer also uses hardware acceleration.

I just want to paste this post from Q&A section so it can be helpful to as much people as it can:
I use Dice player to play mkv videos but not all mkv videos can be played i H/W mode and I think I know why. Developer of DicePlayer wrote in description that Xperia arc can play "720p [email protected]/4.0(some Level 4.0 file have shutter problem)" videos. From what I know scene releases of tv shows and hd movies now need to be converted with 4.1 profile so our arc/arc s can't play it. There is no need to reconvert video to change Profile Level do 4.0 or 3.1 thanks to H264 Level Editor tool. It can change level within 1 second. Tested with justified.s03e04.720p.hdtv.x264-compulsion.mkv. Changed level from 4.1 to 4.0 and still couldn't play it via DicePlayer so I changed it to 3.1 and it worked like a charm.
Don't know why but video still can't be played in MX Video Player.
I just hope this can be usefull to somebody having touble with playing 720p mkv videos.

[Request] MKV 3D Video Players

Anyone know which players support mkv format in 3D?
The built-in player cannot play mkv format; vplayer supports mkv but 3D
Or anyone know how to install codecs for the built-in video player?
look like impossible
Have you tried RockPlayer? I know that it's capable of playing both mkv and 3D videos. Pretty sure I've played a 3D mkv video using it as well. Been a while, so I can't remember for sure, but it's worth a shot.
Vplayer dont wirk on cm7 Sent my trollpital bed
MX Video player works great at playing MKV files
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mxtech.videoplayer.ad
You can also install the ARM 7 codec to improve performance
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mxtech.ffmpeg.v7_vfpv3d16
Yeah, MX player works and is what I use.

This player cant play 3D. Or can? How?
I believe Mobo player will play them.
No. Only one 3D player is default player. Unfortunately. Or not?
if you already have a 3d video downloaded from youtube use bsplayer. it plays all formats.
if you want to watch some chinese 3d video download 3dvplayer.only mp4 format.
Try this...

Dlna/UnPn Media Players

Is there a dlna/upnp media player that can stream 1080p mkv/720p mkv files without installing a server on the laptop/pc?

Try Skifta from the market. Works on both my NCs.
Just tested Skifta in the NT and works great for video and photos... I don't stream any music so can't say there...
Anybody able to get it to find mkv files?

I just copied a .mkv over to the server and it found it fine. And played fine with MX Player.

That's how dlna works...there has to be a server and a client.
The only application I have found that works correctly is BubbleUPNP but you also have to install MX video player and the matroska codec because android does not natively support mkv

bubbleupnp and mobo player; I configured mobo player to soft decode. You can get the codex from here.
http://www.moboplayer.com/plugin/page/product_en
I installed all of the arm v7 codex's. With this setup, I can stream most of my mkv files from my xbmc and windows media server. Keep in mind that the mkv file format is really just a container and can contain different types of media formats.

how do you install the codec?
I am only able to play 2 mins or so of my files with Skifta before it loses video and audio and I have to back out of the video its so annoying as I only have a 2gig Mirco SDcard that I share with my wii so I dont have that full space for videos. I use Moboplayer on the NT and I try using Skifta but as I said it only plays 2 mins before it stops playing.
Edit: Ok after swtiching to mx player it seems to be running much better now I have been watching one of my movies for over an hour now and there havent been any issues.

The first time you try to open an MKV container, it will lead you to the market. The version you want is ARM7.

I am able to view my upnp media server with skifta and browse my videos but I can't get any video to play. avi or mpg files.
Any ideas?
I can play avi files locally on the tablet with mx video player.

Hey try something Like ArkMC.It works Great with my both NC's.Also let us to stream photos. Here is the Playstore link
ArkMC streaming media
I use ArkMC too. Moreover, I am not sure how it was in 2013 but now the app has integration with Youtube and it works perfectly. Try the Lite version but be sure the app is worth its price.

Movie playback

The Rezound plays my MP4 Movies great. Tried playing a Movie in AVI format and the stock player will not have it. I downloaded another video player from the Market and the Movie does play nearly as sharp as the stock player does with the MP4 Movies. Any Ideas? Is there a way of using the stock player with AVI??
Vinny
Maybe the format of the AVI is not comparable to the MP4 you played?
Have you tried MX Video Player? You didn't mention which player you tried.
go here...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1533389
it's actually best to just convert everything to mp4
Thanks for the imfo.
I use mobo player for everything else.. avi's (Divx/xvid's....etc.)
fantastic... the language is a little lost in translation but the app works wonderfully and has a nice interface for scanning/seeking and volume control while watching a video.
mobo is ok but I'm another who prefers mx player
Try diceplayer.
You can play 1080p+DTS/AC3/AAC MKV/AVI files with Full HW Acceleration.
and dice has SMB/FTP/HTTP support, you can play over 4GB files from PC and NAS.
Great info guys, thanks again. Checking them all out. Amazing the choices available.

means the tablet s wont play them
how to get the codecs to make those formats play
thanks
I use MediaHouse to browse my network for DLNA sources: NAS & WMC 7. It is much better than Sony stock DLNA player--which is a featureless afterthought/sick joke. MediaHouse then calls up MX Player, and it's codecs handle the same video sources that Sony DLNA refuses to play....

This is about right. Third-party DLNA viewers such as MediaHouse support on-the-fly transcoding and best-attempt playback.
The Sony DLNA doesn't do this is for the same reason that the Sony Video Player won't play locally stored WMV's for example, because they cannot be played back by hardware rendering. The Sony DLNA app only supports the same video files as the stock Sony Video Players, those with hardware support.
Third-party apps bypass this restriction and try their best to play it, even if its not supported, so give that a shot.
Try Dice Player I use this to play Video from all my NAS drives and Network Shares

You can try a video player app like dice player or convert your videos xvid, avi to your tablet s friendly format with Brorsoft Video Converter.
To avoid the incompatible issues, you can convert your kinds of videos to a widely supported format like MPEG-4 first before storing on your NAS for streaming. I've successfully convert a bunch of VOB to NAS before streaming and sharing.

This is a totally pointless post on a thread thats nearly to years old my friend
yes you are trying to help a fellow xda peep
But you should read the whole thread its only two pages long but as you would have seen the player your suggesting as been already offered and rebuked By the op as for the conversion option its a lot of work and time to convert what I can only assume is about a 1 Tb if not more on a nas hence the need to have a nas
Please read all of the tread you are commenting on first
His best option would be ez file explorer to veiw the folders on the nas then selecting the appropriate app with the file being veiwed
As for video players vlc or mx player support a good number of formats
hit thanks if I helped
sent from rooted xts thanks djrbliss and condi
Try with Avia Media Player
