[Update 1] Why we should look out for Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie - Micromax A116

1) It will be optimised to work perfectly on low-end hardware – even devices with 512MB of RAM so canvas HD will benefit even more.
2) It will use 3.8 Linux kernel.
3) Software Improvements.
4) Complete UI overhaul which would look like our current Google Play store (both desktop and app).
5) etc.
Experimental 3.8 Kernel:- https://android.googlesource.com/kernel/common/+/experimental/android-3.8
Kernel is the centre of attraction, why? because
The 3.8 kernel is supposed to handle memory more efficiently and/or use less. That means there is a good chance that devices that currently have Android 4.1 may even run better on Android 5.0, because of having more available memory. Maybe 1GB of RAM will last longer than anyone thought! and Moto X supports the statement as it's a low end device compared to the competition in the market i.e Galaxy S4, HTC One & Xperia Z. That would help Android fragmentation a lot if 1GB turns out to be plenty of RAM for Android 5.0.
Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie is rumoured to release this october.
Update 1:-
Android 4.3 was released not so long ago for the Nexus 4 and new Nexus 7 2 with build number JWR66V and JSS15J respective, and if you notice these numbers do not have a K in it at all.
Android 4.3 was released a about a month ago and tests have been ongoing with Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, has this new operating system just been confirmed? The reason is because new reports showing up on the Chromium Project reveals the Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 2 running KLP 5.0 OS.
The site also shows that the Samsung Galaxy S4 number is at JDQ39.I9500UBUAMDK, the Galaxy S3 with JRO03C, and the Note 2 with JZO54K, the first letter for these three devices say J, which means Jelly Bean. So to see the Nexus 7 with KRS36B and the Nexus 4 with KRS36B, this means the K is for key Lime Pie.

Even if they don't, Canvas 4 will get it for sure and it would not be hard to port to Canvas HD due to same hardware

The Nexus 5 by LG is going to arrive in October and you know every next gen Nexus gets a new Android OS which is the Google way(i.e. Key Lime Pie).
I think they did not unveil KLP at Google I/O because they wanted to save it for the Nexus event. These are just guesses but a lot of trusted sources are confirming that it will be unveiled in October at Nexus launch event.

Maybe but

They will release it for Canvas 4 for sure so it won't be a problem to port it to Canvas HD as both have same specs
But I think MMX will release it for HD if they are releasing it for Canvas 4.

Samsung's first Tizen phone: the Samsung Z

Well, it looks like Samsung finally managed to do what it has been trying to do for a painfully long time — the Korean manufacturer has made its first Tizen-powered phone official. Called the Samsung Z, the phone features a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display of 1280×720 resolution and is powered a quad-core 2.3GHz processor (most like a Snapdragon 800), and runs on version 2.2.1 of Tizen. The Z comes with a new look that should come as a breath of fresh air for those who have gotten bored of Samsung’s design language on Android devices (let’s face it, who hasn’t?), though the overall design seems to be along the same lines as the company’s previous efforts.
The Samsung Z also sports a fingerprint and heart rate sensor and comes with features such as Download Booster and Ultra Power Saving Mode, things that debuted on the Galaxy S5. The hardware specs include 2GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel camera with the usual camera modes that we’ve seen on Samsung’s Android phones (and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera), 16GB of internal storage and a microSD slot, connectivity features including LTE-A, NFC and an IR sensor, and a 2,600 mAh battery. It’s basically a mix of the previous three Galaxy S flagships, and for a first device with a new OS, doesn’t really have anything impressive or different to offer.

Well, the specs are good, no doubt in that. But, when it comes down to software, never believe in samsung, coz they ain't good in that field. After bada, I ain't trying anything that comes out from the software kitchen of samsung. Although, the ability to run android apps is a relief.

Sorry, wrong thread...

Moto E alternative

I'm sorry for the wrong question at probably the wrong place, but jus help me out
I've bought a moto e for my brother. i jus loved it and was thinking to buy one for myself. but my bro says why to buy two same phones when other phones are available.
brands such as micromax are providing better specs at lower price points.
and in case of after sales services, motorola doesnt fare quite well.
a friend of mine broke the screen of his moto g, and they took around 40 days to give back the mobile stating out of stock
almost like the after sales of mmx
so should i look for an alternative or hang on and buy the moto e itself?
does the os upgrade of KK over JB affect the performance that much?
The best alternative at this price point is Lava Iris 406Q in terms of performance.... Bt u should go for the Moto E, it comes from a much more reliable brand n looks better too!
N yeah Kitkat will affect the performance, security and features too!

I'll stick to moto
Moto E already got Kitkat 4.4.3 . I don't think lava is ever getting any update

I don't think even Motorola too would provide update for the next version of android involving a huge changelog.......the device is just new hence they are active in providing updates. The same scene was present when gingerbread was launched. Every new device had gb within months they didn't show response(except sony)
Look out for the disclaimer put out on the moto E ad while they advertise about latest updates.

I'm using moto E
as an alternative, Micromax Unite 2 A106 is best choice
it outperforms moto E in almost every department except build quality but Micromax's build quality isnt bad either but just average.
It was launched two days after i received my moto E otherwise i would have definitely gone for it.
abt lava iris 406Q
I've used that as well...purchased moto E from the refund of lava 406Q
it has big issue regarding regional Devanagari fonts in Android 4.3 OS
extremely unstable as soon as regional language appears on screen, some kind of rendering issue
apps such as whatsapp, FB, & FB messenger etc stops working when they deal with such font, in addition force closing of these apps causes status bar to crash and wallpapers blinks in alternative black-visible pattern, also sometimes this leads to crash of launcher
there is also same issue of not able to move app data into SD card & moreover storage divided into two parts of 1GB & 1.6GB
there is no such problem in Unite 2...all apps gets installed directly into SD card including app data if required.
so good to go
unite 2 has autofocus with Led flash
lava has fixed focus with led flash
moto has fixed focus with NO flash
moto n unite are running 4.4.2 out of the box
lava on 4.3 but upgradable to 4.4 (mostly in july)
Moto e bcoz of active development of roms
Sent from my XT1022 using Tapatalk
Micromax Unite 2 is an alternative for Moto E provided that you don't care about build quality and poor customer support. Since Motorola releases Kernel for Moto E recently we can expect that once update is launched then Motorola will again release the source hence there is much more possibilty of development comparison to Micromax Unite 2
I love the moto e. But despite its presence on the phone I am unable to use Wi-Fi direct. Any tips on this subject ?

honor 5x getting nougat?

Hey after reading the software policy on Honor's website, still left wondering. Will it get the update?
Nougat update will be made for Honor 5X. It will take little more time than stock androids.
Remember that Honor 4X, which was released with Kitkat is now running Marshmallow.
Yes it will get,Timeframe 2-3 months
I will bet my money it will, it'll just take some more time then other OEMs, like it did with the marshmallow update, and if not, we can always go through the custom rom route and get it some time later in the future.

Custom ROMs are always better, everyday I look on cyanogenmod's github page for the 5x. Too bad no CM14 commitment yet :/
I've been hearing that yes the 5x will be getting the update with (Communication Gods willing) a 'more stock/softened version of EMUI". So I figure give it about 4 months after official release maybe a bit longer...

The reason for some other flagship devices not getting Nougat is that their processor wont support Vulkan API.
Since both Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 are powered by the Snapdragon 800 SoC, they are not likely to support Nougat.
According to Wikipedia's list of supported processors, Snapdragon 200, 208, 210, 212, 400, 410, 412, 600, 800 and 801 chipsets does not support Android N. Qualcomm said that the graphic drivers won't be released for the above mentioned SoC's.
Some of the prominent handsets affected by Qualcomm's decision are as follows
Samsung Galaxy S5
Samsung Galaxy Note 3
LG G3
LG Nexus 5
Sony Xperia Z3
Motorola Moto X 2nd. Gen
HTC One M8
OnePlus One
OnePlus X
Xiaomi Mi4
List of other affected prominent mobiles due to other Soc's are,
Galaxy A7
Galaxy A8
Galaxy S5, S5 Plus
Galaxy Note 4
Galaxy Note Pro
Meizu MX4 Pro
Galaxy A5
HTC Desire 828, 830
Honor 6
Honor 7
Huawei P8
Huawei Mate S
Since Honor 5X is running on Snapdragon 616, it will get Nougat for sure.
Here is the list of Vulcan API supported Soc's from Wiki (Vulcan API - WIki)

Galaxy Note Pro,
Meizu MX4 Pro
Galaxy A5
HTC Desire 828, 830
Honor 6,
Honor 7
Huawei P8
Huawei Mate S
Since Honor 5X is running on Snapdragon 616, it will get Nougat for sure.
Here is the list of Vulcan API supported Soc's from Wiki (Vulcan API - WIki)

Only who have 32-bit processors (by their manufacturer).
Devs at XDA will make them taste nougat (like they did with nexus 4,5 and 7)

Absolutely, but unfortunately the Vulkan API was an excuse for OEMs not to update older devices, just to force to buy a newer model if you want official nougat

Android Pie for A 2017 Series

As you know, we saw Samsung's working on Android Pie for A5 2017 at the end of 2018. And now, they're working on A7 2017. First of all I didn't think they will release 3rd major update for them because of Samsung's update politics. Maybe they want to change that. If they do, this series is gonna be the FIRST Samsung phone models to get 3rd major update. What do you think about that? Is it possible? If it's possible, would you like S7 to get the Pie update too?

I saw it too, but can't this also be a device with an android 9 custom rom (like lineage)?

Yes, this is 100% an unofficial Pie rom, probably with passed safetynet.
It is confirmed that the Galaxy A3, A5 and A7 2017 will receive the Android Pie 9.0 update.
I'm attaching a screenshot of the news with some of the eligible models. You can read the news on the Samsung Members app.
@rashisp
Don't trust this list. We can see here Galaxy J7 (2016), which has 3(!) major updates yet (It was released on Android 5.1.1 and got Android 6.0.1-7.0-8.0.0). Android Pie will the 4 update. But, who knows, I think it because it based on Exynos 7870, which Samsung likes to use on their low-end devices. I hope Samsung will roll out Pie for A-Series 2017. At least, for A3, because it based on Exynos 7870 too.

Sorry, but how can I not trust Samsung's statement in their official Members app? I know Samsung hasn't been good updating lower-end devices, giving only two major updates; but they haven't given any false promises either (saying they will update a device and then cancel said update) as far as I know.

I think Samsung's being a little sneaky here. They only say that the devices are eligible. That doesn't mean that they will 100% get the update, only that it's possible.

Well, it came straight from Samsung so it must be pretty accurate. So don't count on getting pie officially.

You're right but I meant it might be something. I think there's a little chance. Let's hope Samsung makes a surprise for us
