[Q] Problem installing KIES on Win7 64bit - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anybody successfully install the latest KIES on their Win7 64 bit machine?
I saw another thread 2 years ago, but it has no solution to it...
Does anybody have a workaround or a way to get it install?
Mine failed when it try to register nkwab.dll, i think it was trying to use the 32bit regsrv32.exe to register the 64bit stuff... but can't really force the installer to do anything...
Tried to update to the latest 64bit java.
Tried to clean the registry.
Tried an older version of KIES.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Which version are you tying to Install ?
I have Successfully Installed Samsung Kies v2.5.3.13052_10 (on Win8 64bit & Win7 64bit) without any problem.
I think the Latest version is 2.60.13064_2
Not tried that one yet
Uninstall your Current version of Java & Kies
Reboot your System
Just download and Install Latest version of Java
Java 7 Update 25 (64bit) from LINK
Then Reboot your system
And then Download Latest Version Of Kies From LINK
And Install it..
Thats all...

I was trying the latest version on Samsung website.
But anyhow, F that $hit. I tried everything. I end up just installing the Samsung driver package myself, then hook it up with Odin. Kies is a total fail. Wasted me a day on it.
This is what I've tried and done before:
Uninstall and install Kies
Uninstall and install Java (64 bit)
Ran CCleaner
Reboot, and deleted the Samsung folder
Ran CCleaner again
Tried a couple of different version of Kies
Bottomline, Kies doesn't work with 64bits Windows 7, judging by the error message, Kies was trying to run the 32bit regsvr32.exe to register some dll, but it should've ran the 64bit version of regsvr32.exe under Windows/system instead.
I got my stuff working now, go here:
http://www.modaco.com/topic/361286-...or-mobile-phones-15270-win-87xp-adb-fastboot/
Get the driver pack (you may want to google the latest driver pack instead)
Install the driver pack
Run Odin
:good:

That's a bit jumping to conclusions ? Just because it doesent work on your pc - you simply call that Kies doesent work on Win7x64 ? That's weird because i have it installed - and never had any issues with it ?

I had an older version of Kies Mini installed before for my old phone that worked too, and that was 2 years ago. But the new one doesn't work, in fact if you google it, tons of people are having issues with Windows 7 and 64 bit, and yet Samsung doesn't do anything to fix it. Is not my PC's issue because Kies installer was trying to register its dll and failed. The error message was saying that the application (Kies) was performing wrong operation. Like i explained before, I suspect Kies installer is calling the wrong command to register its dll.
Anyhow, Kies is not needed now. I never liked Kies anyway, especially the new one, it looks like iTune...

I don't have any problems with Kies and Win 7 64 bit as well. Currently running 2.60.13064_2 version.
In fact I have Kies installed on my PC December last year without any issues. It is weird that some of people do have installation or stability problems with it when others don't. It's gotta be something not 100% kosher with the application.

Use of Kies on XDA should receive a lifetime ban .

[Q] Does Odin work in 64 bit versions of Windows or not

I've heard people say they have gotten Odin to work on their 64 bit versions of windows, but I cant. I am able to use it on a computer running Windows 7 - 32bit, but not either of the computers I've got running 64 bit.
I've definitely installed the 64 bit the drivers. I can access the phone in ADB on these computers. Odin sees the phone and throws up a com port, but I get a weird error message with Chinese characters when I try to move forward with the flash.
Anyone have a definitive answer? Is it possible to use Odin on Win 7 64bit?
I flashed the leaked J12 with Odin on my 64bit Windows 7 laptop without any trouble.
I flashed with Odin on my W7 64bit desktop. Had a little trouble with it sticking on the verifying files at the beginning, but restarted it and it ran fine the second time. That's the only experience I've had with Odin. Just though I'd let you know that it works on my 64bit machine.
Thanks guys. I dont know what the hiccup is on my end. I might go through my drivers again just to make sure that isnt the issue.
I would highly suspect that the drivers are the issue as have used Odin on 2 separate 64bit machines. Make Sue that after u download the Sammy drivers, that they are installed, and installed correctly.
they call me...kick ass
I was never able to make any win7 system recognize my vibrant in dl mode at all, 32 or 64 bit, no matter what drivers i tried. I even tried to extract the 64 bit drivers to the 32 bit Os as I had seen mentioned in a thread some people had success with. Xp ran it like a champ on the first attempt.

I know were talking about different phones here but I've been scouring the internet trying to find a solution to a problem I'm having right now. when switching from 1 custom ROM to another, it was required that I flash to stock EC05, then flash to EE?? my Windows 7 Ultimate x64 wouldnt work properly (kept getting stuck in boot.bin in ODIN0 but my old faithful Netbook with Windows XP Home SP3 (x86) workd flawlessly!
I'm talking 3 HOURS of trying to get the Win7x64 to work properly and had my Epic reflashed with XP in 3minutes and 27 seconds, not counting time to install Samsung Drivers into XP (30-45 seconds)
Granted this is my experiance, but before I got x64 I was running with Win7 X86 and still never had problems. I have read through Google search that other people with x64 Windows 7 had problems. This is my story only, best of luck to ya, but I am now ONLY going to use my ol Netbook (or x86 virsion of Windows) to ODIN my phone.
Never Stop Wanting More from your devices.
Im using 64 windows OS and i don't have a problem. If your device is not recognize by your PC just reinstall the samsung drivers and you are good to go.
Sometimes you have to go into the safe mode options and disable driver enforcement policy. Then it will work.

Forget trying to use Kies to update, from what i gather it can cause more problems that what it solves.
I'd suggest reaing this to upgrade to KE7:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
The guide is easy to follow and download links for the files are good.
Only thing id add is make sure you are using a good usb port to connect with not a hub in a hub in a hub job
or press right mouse button on kies account
and choose run as administrator
and allow kies in the firewall
Tryed that still misses up like
AV off Firewall off run as Admin .
jje
Tryed and turned off avg and still dint work
have the same issue as u mate
solution for me was to install kies on another xp machine/virtual xp
and update thru there.
that is of course you have another xp machine

I keep connecting my S II to Kies which is running on Windows 7 64bit, but no firmware update seems to be detected.
Any ideas appreciated.

Why would you have an update is the first question .
Second is has your phone provider updated the firmware .

I was made aware that there has been two firmware updates released in the last two weeks from Samsung address certain issues reading battery life and such and these updates can only be applied via connecting to Kies.
As this is not an offical update to Android I did not think that such updates where pushed out by the carriers?
My S2 was bought sim fee but I am using it on the O2 network.
Thanks
I live in the UK and have a factory unlocked SGS2. I plugged my handset in this morning and was immediately offered the KE7 update. I have installed it, but haven't had a chance to put it through its paces yet. I have run Quadrant several times and it consistently scores 3,500+.
im using windows 7 64 bit and have used kies before its extreemly buggy ... can updates be done over the air like they can on htc (fota) ??
im hoping the new version of kies i installed this morning works with 64 bit as my new s2 arrives tomorrow ....
thanks
chris
how much time does it take for the upgrade process to complete?
my phone is connected to the pc and kies is showing Preparing firmware upgrade components, since the past 1 hour!!!! does that take so long?

Hi
I'm new to android.
I'm currently using an unlocked SGSII. The details are below
Android Version
2.3.3
Baseband Version
I9100JCKE1
Kernel Version
2.6.35.7-I910XWKE7-CL215725
[email protected] #2
Build Number
GINGERBREAD.XWKE7
From what I understand KE7 is the latest firmware. Im currently on version 2.3.3 and would like to update to 2.3.5 or higher.
I'm using Kies on a 64 bit Windows 7 and everytime I've connected my phone to Kies for the 2 months I've had it, there are no updates available.
Is there any way Kies will detect an update if I switch to an XP or even a Linux machine
Thanks

[Q] kies failing to install.

So I've installed Kies 2.0 on my desktop running Win7 64bit and ran it fine, but I'm currently traveling and I only have a netbook running Win7 32bit Starter edition, and Kies REFUSES to install. Every time, it comes up with 'Error 1618: another installation is in progress.' Which is absolutely untrue, since I've tried installing it immediately following a restart, and other programs have installed fine since then. I've tried giving it admin permissions, enabling compatibility modes for WinXP or Vista, and nothing works. I've tried stopping and restarting the Windows Installer Service as well. Has anyone experienced this problem?
The only reason I need Kies is for the SGS2 drivers, so I can flash with Odin. If there's another way for me to get those drivers on my computer, that would be great too
Search for Samsung USB drivers .

Updating S2 using Kies under Windows 8 Release Preview

I have installed Windows 8 Release Preview (64 bit) on my PC. I installed Kies (v2.3.2.1) so that I could upgrade my Samsung Galaxy S2 from Gingerbread to ICS. Kies installs OK and runs OK and detects my phone OK. I am told that there is a firmware update for my phone and when I proceed to downloads the firmware then... nothing. It just hangs. Kies dies (but does not close although it freezes). I have tried separately downloading the latest Samsung drivers (v1.5.4.0) and installed these too -- but the same things happens.
Is this a common problem? Or is it my PC? Is there a workaround? Cheers.

Flashtool SWT problem

I'm getting this problem.. on flashtool. My flashtool gets installed with only partial options and even those don't work properly. Tried it on Win 7, win 8 but no luck. Both windows versions x64. Tried using admin rights for everything too. But on my win 8 desktop, I got it working after 10-15 installs, somehow. But I had to format my OS and lost all data.
I read this but since I dont have enough posts, I cant post there for help.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38995465
I downloaded flashtool version 9.10.1 from androxyde.github.io
Googled this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40808538
I not sure about using old version so I didn't try an old version.
