TWRP + TiBu Update.zip - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hi all, question about creating an update.zip of my apps in TiBu and flashing it using TWRP. I backed up all my user apps and then generated the update.zip file. Booted into recovery, erased, installed CM 10.1, Google Apps, then flashed in the update.zip. I booted up my phone and CM loaded just fine. When I went into my app drawer, however, none of my apps were there. Anyone know what's going on?
Thanks for the help.

I had a similar issue but found that just backing up and restoring through TiBu was far more effective than using the zip method. I am not exactly sure why. Are you able to restore the apps through TiBu without the zip? Also, does the issue persist if you install the rom that the apps were backed up on and then restored using the zip? That may help narrow your issue.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't tried installing through TiBu. I just flashed the nandroid backup which brought me back to the previous version (stock Android). I read somewhere that the update may not work because TWRP doesn't allow for file sizes over 2gb or something.

I managed to get the zip file to work (the first zip I made was only 3mb), and I flashed it. However, for a lot of apps I had problems. The window would pop up and the circle would spin, but eventually I would get an error. So I had to restore my backups through TiBu anyway.

I would install the rom and gapps, let it boot, then boot back in to recovery to install the update.zip (I always rename mine to apps.zip)

.android-secure help

So I tried to restore my phone multiple times from two different recoveries and every time it stops during it and the screen goes black and the only way to turn my phone on is to pull the battery. Everything but the .android-secure restores and I now have about 200 hundred apps that aren't installed on my phone and I don't want to have to go through all that again, the apps still show as installed on my phone, but the the data on my SD card is missing, does anyone know how I can get this back?
Did you actually wipe your.android_secure folder?
Sent.
No, I never wiped it. After I restored my phone it was empty
Did you ever try to move 200?? apps to sd?
Sent.
Yes all the apps were on my SD card already. But they were moved over one by one so it wasn't a major hassle. I tried doing it through TWRP now and it won't restore at all anything that is.

Also, did you ever flash some kind of superwipe .zip file or anything? Do you have titanium backups? Do you have a TWRP Nandroid?

Is your Sdcard partitioned, and, if so, are you running a ROM that supports A2SD?
Sent.
No I never did a superwipe or anything of the sort, I didn't have any Titanium Backups either, never planned on flashing a new ROM, still haven't. The backup was through CWM the newest update 4.0.1.5 I tried restoring through that and the Revolutionary 4.0.1.4, neither worked. I moved all the recovery files over to TWRPs backup location and they none of the partitions would restore. My SD is not partitioned and I'm on a rooted stock ROM. I'm only talking about regular App2SD apps that are supported by Android, like Angry Birds and Google Earth.

Those go straight to your secure folder. I don't ever use CWM, as a rule, but it seems that somehow your CWM Nandroid didn't include that folder...I don't know how it got wiped, but my guess is that whatever rom you flashed included a Superwipe script, which would've wiped that folder. (another thing I don't use-Superwipe) If you go in with root explorer or whatever file manager, you can manually verify that a) your secure folder is empty (which it sounds like you've done), and also check under your /clockworkmod recovery folders to see if you actually have a backup for the secure folder.
If it's not there, then, unfortunately it's lost.. You can get the apps back from the market, though.. PM me if you have any 'hard to come by' apps you might need that don't show up on the market.
Good luck.

I never flashed a ROM. . . at all. There was definitely no super wipe. My CWM folder has the .android-secure.IMG, I just want to find a way to get this readded. Thanks for the help

Then the same version of cwm should restore it. Get in touch with Koush from teamdouche/cyanogenmod, the creator of CWM if you're having issues.

How can I get in touch with him exactly?

OK so what recovery did you make the backup? I don't think TWRP backup work in CWM. Also, you don't even NEED to restore the .img you're talking about. You can restore boot, system, data, and it should boot. If you need your apps back, download them. Then back them up with titanium backup. Koushik can be found in #cyanogenmod-dev on freenode, but I don't think you need to bug him. It sounds like your phone boots right? If you need more help come into our d3rp thread, linked in my sig.
Thanks, yeah I decided to just reset my phone anyway, to fix the black screen of death and everything. Just sucks I can't remember what all my apps were and I'm like a hundred short now

[Q] Romracer Recovery restore problems

Has anyone discovered what's the problem with restoring nanodroid backups with romracer's Recovery?
I see many of us have the same problem, restore work almost fine, it restores the operational system, but does not restore accounts and applications...
Edit:
New information:
I created two new backups as i am trying different ROMs.
I created one for CM7 and tested the restore, everything works perfectly! All apps and accounts...
Also created one for nCrust, this one have the same problem as i reported, the system is there, but it lacks all applications and accounts...
I also noticed that the nanodroid file is 0 bytes for the cases where the error occurs, and 1kb in the case where it worked fine.
Thanks
BTW, i am not using Rom Manager...
I'm not having an issue at all. Did you use romracer's CWM to backup?

I used it to backup and restore and it restored everything; apps and accounts included.

Yes, i did!
I flashed the last romracer's CWM yesterday, and created the backup next...
There are other users with this problem as well, but i can't find a fix for that anywhere...

Did you backup webtop (optional)? And upon selecting restore, are you trying to restore webtop?

I'm also running piCRUST (v0.7) and romracer's CWM recovery 3.2. I will try this and report back the results.
P.S. would help us if you gave ROM, kernel, and recovery versions, etc. Thanks...
i just now did a backup and restore from within romracer's v3.2 recovery and all my post-piCRUST install tweaks are still in place. WiFi even came right back up with my WPA2 connection as it was before I rebooted for the test.
Of course, if the recovery actually did nothing at all then this behavior is expected.
Seriously, this part of the recovery is probably lifted wholesale from the codebase before romracer got involved, with the exception of being able to choose the external SD card for backup storage. That's what I did this first time. Now for another test, but this time I will backup to the internal card.
BRB...
---------------
No problems either with a backup and restore to/from the internal SD card. I just stepped through the recovery menu and chose all the defaults except for the webtop part.
Looking forward to your report of installed versions OP. When you boot into the recovery the very first line should say:
"CWM-based Recovery v4.0.1.4-atrix3.2"
Is this what you see?

I haven't seen a lot of complaints about this myself, but up until now I've only been monitoring romracer's original post in the dev section. Can you point us to another thread where this is mentioned?
Not doubting you, I'd just like to see if there's some pertinent info about this issue that we're missing. Thanks...
Also, if you are choosing an Advanced Restore, please tell us exactly what options you are selecting, as they are described in the recovery menu itself (e.g. not "accounts", etc.). Thanks again...

error while making backup of data?

so im having trouble making backups in CWM based recovery 5.5.0.4. It always gets to backing up data, but ends with "error while making backup of data/"
Ive cleared up 9gb of space on my external sdcard and that didnt work. Ive tried the internal sd which has 6gb. Ive wiped cache/dalvik and fixed permissions and still I cant get a full backup.
any suggestions? I read somewhere that i might need to format my sdcard, but then shouldnt my internal sd work?
any help would be much appreciated.
Looks like you have too many apps saved within this backup image.
Look here, reply #9
Try to backup from a lighter image to see how it goes.

yeah i just posted a similar post ... and i tried another recovery and still same issue
This new idea is taken from senior member Immix:
I think it's a problem in the backup using this CWM version.
Get Jokersax's recovery from here, and flash it with fastboot.
Now, flash the ROM you want without any data or cache. Clean everything and make a clean install.
Get Titanium backup and restore all your apps from the backup file you tried to use first. Just select "Import from Nandroid Backup" within Titanium backup.

sounds promising, ill give it a shot.

[Q] installed Hyperdrive lost contacts

ok so i just flashed to hyperdrive and all is well , except i lost my contacts...I thought no big deal Ill just load verizon backup assistant plus but when i click on it under settings it just crashes settings. I have an old TWRP folder with my mk2 rooted backup which had all of my contacts but I didnt save the stock rom in a slot. I thought I would be able to just drag and drop TWRP folder with my old stock system from pc to phone and boot the old system from the backup folder but I havent been able to do that.. Is there any way to load my old stock in a slot and get my contacts back? Or a way to load backup assistant plus into hyperdrive so it will actually function?
To get my contacts back I just sign into my Google account on my phone......that easy

Quick question, when flashing using safestrap do you lose all your apps and have to re install from play store, or if you have a backup on SD card and you easily just get them from there.

When you flash a ROM using Safestrap, it's a clean install. After you're done, you'll have to log in to your Google account and let it restore all of your applications. You may also be able to restore from backup (let's say, from Titanium) if they're compatible with the new ROM.
