nope
sorry

You didn't give enough info. If you are completely stock, then no. But if you have previously flashed a custom recovery (CWR or TWRP), if you update TWRP it will root your phone.

"if you have previously flashed a custom recovery"
You need a pc now, he was saying if you had ever flashed a custon recovery and still had it installed you wouldn't need a pc.
Bones stock requires a pc.

just over pc or mac! no other way trust me
Yep. Initial root requires a computer.
If you really need to root right now, download Odin and CF-Root on your phone and ask someone to borrow their computer or use a public computer. Move the files to the computer and root it in less than one minute and you're done!
i have a few questions maybe you guys can help... so here we go:
when you root with odin, it unlocks the phone giving you su right. does this also change your rom?
how is the launcher different than the rom? difference between flashing rom and kernal?
last one... when you install a custom rom, can you delete it if there are bugs to reinstall a different one or use the stock?

1. No

Back up stock rom

Hi everyone,
I just reset my phone through LGPNST, cuz I accidentally deleted the Rom trying to flash new Rom . I learned it the hard way cuz I had my phone stuck in recovery mode for a week.
Long story short I just wanna backup my stock Rom before I try to flash other roms. Can anybody suggest best way how to do it ?
Every reply is appreciated and thanks in advance,.

Do you mean TWRP? Just back it up in recovery (TWRP). However, if you are using the recovery that freegee installed, I'd download and flash a newer one from the development section. They create much more reliable backups.

Yes it's twrp which I downloaded from freegee . I tried to backup from the system but it said failed for some reason which I dont remember. As I told I'm kinda new to all this stuff .this is my first android device . So could you please send the link that you're talking about . Thank you for your reply .

Here's the link for the TWRP that has been developed for the OG: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2019662. I was able to flash this to my phone via the instructions within this thread. I'm a noob as well to flashing, so can't give advice beyond pointing you here.
Here's a link for Clockwork Mod for the OG, another recovery program: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010984
There seems to be a bit more development being done for the Clockwork Mod...

Siyah Dual Boot - Rooted and Unrooted Rom

I have a Galaxy S3 and I'm using dual boot successfully. I was wondering whether I would be able to dual boot a primary rooted and secondary unrooted rom side by side?
Enquiring because I want to be able to use apps such as banking, Sky Go and any other that don't work with root
Thanks in advance

If it's a rom that includes the SuperSU app, you can unroot it. Should work. Infact Stweaks also unroots....

I thought that was the question I was answering.
Well if unrootin the secnd rom desnt work using superuser, then just remove /system/app/supersu.apk and /system/bin/su frm teh rm.zip before you flash it.

Sorry for the confusion. I think I'm writing it wrong I think, I know how to unroot, that works.
But Sky Go still detects it as a rooted rom
What I want to know is can I put a stock unrooted rom for secondary rom with siyah Dual Boot. Without affecting the first rom and root?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
You can only flash stock roms via odin which won't help you since you must use siyah recovery to flash 2nd rom.... so no...
There are only TWO elements to root which I have suggested you remove manually (follow link to sticky roll-up on signature for root basics).
If sky go still detects "root" after that, its nothing in the rom that its detecting....
So remove the files from the rom before you flash it.... if that doesn't work, nothing will
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 4
It detects root because the first ROM (the main) is rooted. You could try switching example swap primary and secondary roms

How did you root and what root are you using (SuperSU or Superuser)?
All you did was root? Did you install any root applications?
That happens to me sometimes too. Are you running a custom rom?

I never had this issue after rooting... And always did it via TWRP, manually flashing SuperSU zip file.

I always flash using TWRP also :highfive: But it's just some ROMs for me that have these kinds of bugs.
I would just flash a new ROM if I were you, unless you plan on staying with the stock ROM? If so, you should probably pick up another one, because your UI shouldn't constantly ANR.

There are zip files for newer recoveries.. My personal favorite is Phil's touch... Just download the file and flash it through your current recovery... And then reboot recovery...

no need for root. download new recovery as an zip (Philz is an good choice, find his tread here on xda) and reboot into recovery. Flash new recovery zip just like any other zip. Reboot and voila... all done
