Does s3 mhl adapters work well with s4? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I have a cable from when I had the note 2 now the video looks fine but the phone does not recognize the cable as charging, so I think I might loose battery if I use it, it's this the case?

Charger for Photon.

Hi Everyone,
i am using my photon 4g in india and we don't have flat pin sockets here.
i have been charging my phone with USB from my laptop.
can any body suggest me other options?
A wallplug --> USB adapter to charge via that? Or can't you order a micro-usb charger online for whatever type of wall outlets you have there?
I am also in India. I am using a Samsung micro usb charger (850ma) i think. This has normal pins.

Get one flat to round pin adapter which is easily available in electronics shops.

Most of the micro usb charger should work with photon. But one suggestion, try to get charger with atleat 0.7A rating, otherwise charging may be slow.

I use it and it works just fine
In order for a charger to work on the Photon, it has to have the D+ and D- pins connected, either directly or with a resistor. Unlike most phones, the Photon won't charge from a USB hub or port unless the host PC has the Motorola charging/ADB driver installed.

[Q] passive mhl adapter

So at work I tried a straight passive mhl adapter. A non powered one and I did not get any display out of it. Do our phones require the active aka powered mhl adapters ( requires usb power plugged bin) like the Samsung one in order for display out to work?

Yep! I got one listed in the master accessories list in the general galaxy note 2 area and it works great. If I remember correctly, it's 11-pin.

Movies from phone onto tv?

Can I use a mhl cable to watch movies on tv with sound. Do i have to have some special setup?

Special mhl. Not exactly sure why but it has something to do with number of pins I think. I had an mhl cable for my last phone that doesn't work on this one. Also went to best buy and tried a micro usb to hdmi cable they had. It didn't work either.

Needs to be 11-pin, and needs to be plugged into power. I got this one and it works: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0088...ct=true&ref_=as_li_ss_tl&tag=wwwgadgetgblo-20

Just throwing it out there but if you have an Xbox connected to your TV or if your Tv is DLNA capable an app called Twonky Beam will get the job done
I can't speak for the cable but with the Smart Dock both video and sound are outputed via HDMI to TV. I would think a genuine Samsung 11-pin MHL adapter would work the same.
Do you have the smart dock and if so can you write a review about it and let us know if you think it's worth 100 dollars

How to get MHL to HDMI working?

I read that sgs3 mhl adapters work for the note 2 also. Received my well rated adapter today and it doesn't seem to work. I'm on Beans ROM Build 2. Bummer!

You have usb power plugged into the mhl adapter?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
Yep. Went back to a stock ROM and now it acknowledges its connected but the TV has no signal

I am having the same problem. I have tried the official Samsung 11 pin adapter and a cheap knock off and have the same issue of it connecting and then disconnecting. Samsung told me that it was a bad port on the phone and I finally had got a new phone from verizon and it does the same thing. This is very frustrating.
There is really no trick to getting it working.
I use the ridiculously priced Samsung adaptor with a 2amp charger hooked to it and it works every time.
All i have to do is plug it in and set the TV on the right input and I'm good to go.
The 2 amp charger is the key. Make sure u have enough juice.

USB charging

Do I need to buy all new cables now to charge? The one I used with my sgs3 will not plug into this. Am I an idiot or doesn't it work?
Thanks
Woody

No you dont...but if you want faster charging times then yes tou need the new usb cable
Charge times from my nexus 7 charger work just fine and brought me from 18% to fully charged in about 2 hours

Your standard micro-USB still fits into a micro-USB 3.0 slot. Just plug it into the right side of the slot. Right side is standard micro USB and the left is the 3.0 expansion slot.
