Unable to update to latest firmware - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Hi to everyone,
I am playing since first pop-up to update my device to latest firmware release via PC Companion. I tried also by using a different PC (OS too, Windows 7 64Bit / Windows XP SP3) but when I plug the phone pressing the vol- button, the notification LED blink for 1 sec (green) then it doens't go ahead.
I also tried with and without the SIM card.... with no success.
Why that?
Thanks...

Hi to everyone,
a good news... I updated my device via Bridge for Mac...

Now I am wondering: why the PC version needs the procedure you know and the Mac version make all steps by itself?

Hi Everyone!
I'm also facing the same issue of not being able my Xperia Z Ultra to update to the latest firmware.
I purchased my set 5 days back and found that the set reboots itself while usage. Not very frequently but it rebooted itself twice on the first day.
Initially I did a hard reset to see if that resolves the issue - it was fine for 2 days but after that it again rebooted.
I assumed it to be a software issue and I hoped that update to the latest firmware would solve the issue. But after all my efforts, I am unable to update it to the latest firmware.
When I connect it to my PC (Windows 7), the PC Companion detects that an update is available for the phone [Firmware 417] - But finally the process fails at the stage of 'Downloading Software' and I get Error 1800.
I've tried the following:
1. Restarting the PC and Phone and then try.
2. Remove the SIM and SD Card from the phone and try.
3. After failing the 1st attempt, when PC Companion suggests to re-try by shutting down the phone and then pressing the volume down button while inserting the USB Cable to phone.
4. Have also tried updating using 'Sony Update Service' instead of PC Companion.
5. Found a post in some other forum similar to this problem but for 'Xperia Z' - where it was happening due to a defective USB cable.
- I have tried multiple times using 3 different cables : 2 Original SONY Cable and 1 Nokia Cable.
I don't have access to a Mac.
Please suggest any solution if someone else faced this issue and found the solution.

Ok so you did try with different US cables but what about different USB port. I know thats quite obvious but sometimes small things make big difference.

- Yes, I've tried using different USB Ports as well... but the result is the same.

Is your Bootloader Unlocked?

No, I've not unlocked the boot-loader... its the stock piece and I just wanted to upgrade the firmware by Sony's suggested process...

Hi mani, I fixed it by flashing the phone via Bridge (Mac). Also mine, no boot-loader locked but no way to do via Windows.

Completely locked. Stock, no mods. I used Bridge when I got the phone to migrate my S3 and iphone content. Which it did much better than the Samsung Kies, thank-you very much.
It would just hang on the "Talking to update server".

I don't have access to a Mac system
I thought of flashing the .417 firmware by downloading the .ftf file and flashing it manually using Xperia Flash Tool.
--------
How to Update manually Xperia phone by flashing ftf file via Xperia Flash Tool
http://www.xperiaguide.com/2013/05/...e-by-flashing-ftf-file-via-xperia-flash-tool/
Unlocking the boot loader - Official SONY method
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/
Download C6802_14.1.B.0.471_GENERIC Hong Kong.ftf | 779 MB
http://www.xperiaguide.com/2013/08/...droid-4-2-2-14-1-b-0-471-firmware-update-ftf/
--------
But since this method required to unlock the boot-loader mandatorily and as unlocking of the same would make my 1 week old Z Ultra out of warranty... i was not pretty sure if I wanted to unlock the bootloader :-|
Also, while downloading the 779 MB of the .ftf file - my internet connection took 3 hours, but yes I was able to download the same. [It is hosted in Google docs site]
This made me think that there might be some issues with the Sony servers from where the Sony PC Companion and the Update Manager tries to download the required ftf file. So thought of giving it another try after some days.
Its quite possible that in few days we will get the firmware .475

I am able to update the firmware to the latest .475 using Sony Update Service. [There is nothing new I did]
When I connected to the PC Companion, it showed that a new update is available - Firmware .475. I initiated the update process but as previously... it failed after some time. Then I tried using Update Service.
The download of 849.9 MB file started but failed around 459 MB.
I again started the update using Update Service and to my surprise it resumed the download from 450 MB. This time it was able to download the file to 100% without any issues. And once the file was downloaded 100% - the update process was done in a couple of minutes.
1. I selected the option of Factory Reset and upgrade.
2. I had the simcard and SD card removed from the set before start of the upgrade process.
3. I made sure that the battery was 100% charged.
But finally i think it was a file download issue only. Since it is a huge file, somehow the download was getting interrupted for whatever reason and it was failing previously.
Thanks everyone!

someone please reply to this thread
Check in windows device manager if there are any devices with question mark icons when you connect your phone.
This usually indicates a driver problem, reinstall PC Companion and/or Sony Ericsson Update Service (SEUS).
reinstalled PC companion. Tried with a different cable too. Tried with a different laptop too. This problem wasnt there earlier

found solution? i have same problem, usb only charge phone.
Hi guys had the same problem. At first my PC Companion worked fine but later my laptop would not auto pop up the PC Companion when I attached the phone via USB. PC Companion even refused to open when manually clicked. I traced my steps on everything that I changed on my laptop (programs installed etc). Finally I found that if I switched of the Windowblinds Aero Unlimited, PC Companion started working again. Something in the PC Companion UI clashes with Windowblinds.
do you have all the required drivers installed?
somebody solved the problem? I cannot connect my x10 phone to my laptop as always, this happens since new pc companion arrived to arc and neo ..... please work on that cause its very frustrating
download flashtool, and in the drivers folder, you will find Gordons gate drivers, install it, then plug in your phone to the computer. if not, pull sd card, put it directly into card reader(if you don't have one, you can buy a usb one for like $5CAD) and put a different ROM on it, plug sd card back into phone, then flash via xrecovery, then try to plug it in. I hope it works. submit reply if one method works, so others can try

:::HELP::: SGS2 from HK connects to PC, but bot Kies....

Hey guys,
Yep. *NOT* connecting to Kies.
I'm in Australia. Bought my SGS2 from HK (PDA ZSKG2, CSC OZSKG2), running Gingerbread 2.3.3 and is currently rooted using Chainfire's Odin dump on these forums. Prior to rooting, i had the same issue.
I have checked via the program, i have the latest kies program downloaded (2.0.2.11071_128) - and I also have installed the USB.exe file (for the propper Samsung SGS2 drivers off the Samfirmware.com website) I also have 2 mini USB cables, they are both genuine Samsung, so worst case scenario, at least 1 of these cables should work...
Aslo as an FYI: I am using a desktop PC with Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit OS (legit) - have not had issues running other USB2 devices o it...
THE PROBLEM:
When i plug in the cable, the phone immediately tried to connect to Kies (on ym SGS1, i had the option of Kies/media player/mass storage) but can't select anymore; when i connect, a pop-up box shows up "I9100" and asks me what program i want to use - i have ano problems with copy/paste/delete/transferring files using this method, the issue is with Kies.
When i open kies manually and plug in the phone+USB cable (or if Kies starts up automatically when cable is plugged in), it jsut gets stuck on "CONNECTING", but the phone itself never actually connects.
I have tried reinstalling the same usb.eve drivers again, restarting PC, the phone, unplug/replug in the cable and it doesn't seem to work...the funny thing, was my riisted SGS1 phone connected ti kies instantly and never had any issues with it. Can anyone lend me a hand or some advice? At the moment, i just want a simple Uuser firendly interface for restoring a tonne of my saved contats in a contacts file logged backed up form my old phone.
Cheers

As i said, it works without KIes, but wonr work with it.
If i turn on USB debugging, plug in the USB cable, the error "Reconnect the device on Samsung Kies (PS Studio) mode. Current connection mode is not supported by Kies"
Any other ideas?
I might have missed exactly what you'd done, but did you actually try with USB debugging disabled / off?

It should work ! Do u use a custom rom ?
Double check USB Debugging is OFF.
Then check if you have one of those "multi mount" apps active that let you use /sdcard from phone and PC simultaniously - kill it.
Usb debug on or off makes no difference guys. Im using stock firmware, just rooted kernel...and no multi-use apps...or at least I dont think (what kind exactly?)

Thanks, i'll give thgat a try when i get home. However, i now have a strong hunch i could have a phone with either faulty software or hardware:
When i plug a USB cable into my work PC to simple recharge the phone (exiting any PC Kies attempt by the phone) the stupid device tells me it cannot recharge due to the phone or batteries TEMPERATURE being too high or too low; yet the phone is not warm at all, and the room temperatures are more than optimal for its operating environmement.
Tried unplugging and plugging back in and get the same error, am going to turn the phone off now and attempt to recharge it. Dodgy HK crap....
RoOSRA
Some quick suggestions:
* Plug the cable into the usb port in the back of the computer, not the front port or usb hub (unless it's an AC powered hub).
* Make sure you use the Samsung micro-usb cable that came with the phone
* Try with another computer, maybe the PC drivers are messed up. Uninstall them as I mentioned above.
* Try to factory reset the phone
* Change your ROM to an official Samsung one
EDIT: Regarding temperature, there are tools in the market that can show you battery temp. Regarding the message you're getting, it would be useful to show a screenshot. If I remember correctly, Power+Home shortcut will take a screenshot.

Phone is NOT recognized by computer or KIES

Hey guys and girls.
Bought a S3 few weeks ago and problems started yesterday evening. I started KIES and it said an upgrade was available. I started download it but something happened and it failed.
I have tried reinstalling KIES and its mobile driver several times
I have rebooted the phone and computer several times.
I also factoryreseted the phone via settings
I have resetted cache/dalvik
I have tried two computers
Also restored back to an earlier backup I made in CWM
Tried different cables
Removed SIM/MicroSD
The phone charges directly when connected to the wall, charging via computer works too, sometimes after installing kies it doesnt charge at all OR is "delayed" Up to 30 seconds.
Odin doesnt recognize the phone even when in download mode.
What could be wrong?!!
"International I9300" bought in Sweden (Came with firmware for Germany)
Rooted CF-Root with SuperSU, Manager
dont know what could be wrong but you can try connecting to a different computer so it can automatically install the drive with a fresh start
Samsung Kies: connection problems
1 Make sure to always have the latest installed version of Kies
2 For owners of Windows Vista/Seven start Kies in administrator mode.
3 Disable any antivirus software, antispyware, or firewalls on your PC.
4 Connect your phone to your pc using the launcher by default of the Samsung (Touchwiz). Launcher alternative may not be recognized by kies. Close any programs in the background on your phone and pc.
5 Make sure that in the Settings > Wireless and network > USB Settings is selected Samsung Kies or ask the connection (only for Gingerbread).
If already selected try to choose any item and then reset one of the two mentioned.
6 Make sure that the debug mode usb is disabled
7 Try to use another USB port on your pc. Not all usb ports may not be able to deliver the power needed to power the device.
8 Restart both your phone and your pc.
9 Try to reinstall the drivers for the Galaxy. To do this open Kies, go to the Tools menu and then on install driver.

mobile odin is the app version of odin and isnt used on the pc, if you go this method I would recommend pro version as you can apply root as you flash roms. If you use the free version and it doesnt cure problem you wont be able to root until u fix connection problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347899
edit:- quickest way of removing cwm is flashing an official rom, unfortunately that poses a problem in your case :/

It depends if you you want to keep root flash stock firmware with Mobile Odin Pro with Everroot option, if not use pc Odin and after reboot do a factory reset. Reset flashcounter before flashing with Odin with Triangle Away 1.70 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114. If you want to support the dev buy it from Playstore.

Reset flashcounter before flashing with Odin with Triangle Away 1.70 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114. If you want to support the dev buy it from Playstore.

I have already purchasd TriangleAway
It doesnt matter if i have root or not, if the problem isnt fixed I have to return it to the store where i bought so they can fix it/return it to samsung.
Odin on my computer wont recognize the phone at all, not even in Download Mode. So I guess i ahve to use the mobile versiona anyway. I think i Have a legit XXLFB nordic or UK version.

Hi, this happened to me today as well. I hadn't changed anything, phone is stock not rooted. plugged into pc to copy some music onto the phone and my pc just kept saying usb device had malfunctioned. I tried it on another computer and it was the same. yet i have copied files back and forth loads of times before. luckily for me powering the phone on and off fixed this for me? Have you tried powering off and on, and then if that fails a hard reset. *#272*yourimei# that just might fix it.
Try to disable USB debugging...

Dialing 272 has to do with choosing the csc file, has nothing to do with your problem.
You might try doing a hard reset *2767*3855#, backup personal stuff first to your pc, but probably isn`t the answer.
Start from scratch:
Install a free programm called Revo Uninstaller from www.freewarefiles.com. Open Revo and choose uninstall Kies including the drivers by clicking right, wipe everything samsung related. The programm will guide you through the process and will delete directory, folder and map. Reboot your pc and reinstall Kies again. Hope it will work now.

[Q] P76910g device not recognised in emergency mode - can't flash

I've been trying for like the last 3 days to downgrade my T-Mobile P76910g to V11A so that I can get rid of bloatware and more importantly tether.
I've been following various guides but mostly the first post in here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2085344 - (I can't reply to this thread due to post count - sorry!)
I've tried time and time again and re-read over the info but no matter what I do I cannot get my phone recognised to do the actual flashing.
I'm facing a similar issue as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37395294&postcount=105 but have not been able to resolve it as @UgduiBill did outlined here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37652072&postcount=125
When I'm in emergency mode device manager just flashes on and off with an unrecognized device. I've tried to manually install drivers from omap4boot for the unrecognized device with no luck (others have described being albe to do this). I was however able to install drivers for the OMAP4430 device that flashes up once when the phone first boots into emergency mode using the set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices*=1 technique.
When I try using Windows Enabler with KDZ_FW_UDP.exe and the phone in LG Software mode with USB debugging on KDZ_FW_UDP.exe just hangs.
I'm trying to do the flashing from a Macbook. I've tried Win 7 x86 and 64 with both VMWare Fusion and Virtual Box hypervisors both with the same issues. I've tried both USB ports on the Macbook.
I'm currently on holiday fron Australia in the United States (I bought the bloody phone so I wouldn't have to deal with crappy hotel Internet!) so do not have access to other hardware.
Drivers for all other USB modes install without issue and I can get photos / media on / off the device.
I really hope I'm just being stupid and missing something simple but any advice would be VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.
Hopefully there is a way I can flash this phone that I haven't read about yet.
Thanks!

There is a note on my thread as follows...
(UNBRICKS ALL SOFT-BRICKED L9 (P760/765/P768/P769, EXCEPT P769V10G)
I hope you have read "EXCEPT P769V10G". And it seems you have messed up with your P769 with various methods at the same time. For example my thread does not suggest "Windows Enabler" at all. Many are flashing without any issue at many times.
You can still try restoring phone with official LG PC Suite and start phone in "SW Upgrade Mode" and select....
Device Menu >>> Emergency Firmware Recovery.
This will restore your device to factory status and you can stay with it happily everafter. Good Luck.

Thanks for getting back to me. I think I was misunderstood a bit. My phone is not bricked. I'm just trying to downgrade it so that I can tether.
Further Windows will not recognize the device in S/W Upgrade mode. So using LG Mobile Support Tool or LG PC Suite is not an option. I get a message "Disconnected. Please connect your phone." Even though it is connected, the screen is displaying "S/W Upgrade Please wait while upgrading..." and device manager is flashing on an off with an "unrecognized device".

Something weird and new report. I still say LG makes unbrickable and always recoverable phones. Try installing drivers again and start afresh. Maybe 3.8.1 driver work for you.
Sent from p765.

Need help, my Xperia M4 Aqua doesn't show up in Device Manager anymore

So connecting my Xperia M4 Aqua to PC results in charging only, im unable to browse files or anything. Worked just fine a week ago.
Just for the record, ive tried different USB slots, different PC's, tried USB cable on a different device and it worked fine. Tried toggling USB debugging on and off, tried MTP and MSC connecting, tried restarting device after every change. I have no locker, but ive tried locking the phone and unlocking it before/after connecting it with USB. My phone is rooted. Charging works fine. USB slot in my phone doesnt look damaged or anything. So in short: after i connect my phone to a PC via USB cable, nothing happens except charging, like if no new device was connected.

Software? Might be, could be that i missed any major software update on my phone.
When you connect M4 to PC try to install software from phone to pc. Set phone as installer and try to install PC companion from phone to PC. This was the only way to connect phone to PC for me. Does it help?

Its set as installer. Im trying to set it on and off before restarting device too, then again, my PC doesnt detect it. Is there any way to manually install it from my phone? And for the mention, the first time i connected the phone, PC Companion installed itself without problems, it used to work until a week ago. Ive tried to uninstall it as well. Now theres no Companion installed on my PC, and switching my phone to "Install Software" doesnt do anything.
Ok. One more time. Take phone. Open settings - Xperia connectivity - USB connectivity. Turn on "Install software". Connect phone to PC using USB cable. On the phone press install software. This should connect your phone to PC.
At least this was the way to connect phone to PC for me. If this works, then you'll need to do phone software repair with PC Companion. After repair this issue has gone for good.
Good luck

Thats the part where im getting confused. Where do i press install software? Its already set to "Install Software" inside Xperia connectivity. I must be blind or theres something missing.
There should be message on phone screen ( or in top toolbar)

Hmm there is none
So guys, any ideas?
Your USB slot does not have to look damaged but it can be. I damaged my USB slot when I put knee unfortunately between edge of mobile and usb cable. Charging always worked but when I wanted to transfer files I really had to find some good position for cable. Your situation looks worse. I am lucky boy because I claimed it and tommorow I am getting repaired or new mobile phone. If u did not do anything bad just claim it as me and everything is gonna be ok.
