AT&T Sim Cards are back w/Straight Talk! - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Is there a way I can get my Verizon S4 to work with a Straight Talk AT&T SIM card?! Please say yes, so I can get rid of this expensive A$$ bill?!

Yes I'm using my at&t straight talk sim on the verizon s4 and it works great!

Is there anything special I have to do with my phone? When I order the sim card from straight talk it won't let me select the cdma option so, should I just select gsm as if I have a AT&T Galaxy S4?

CDMA does not use SIM cards. The S4 is a CDMA/GSM/LTE device. AT&T is a GSM network.
You might have to edit the APN settings to use Straight Talk.

The Verizon S4 is a CDMA phone AND a GSM phone. I believe they made it this way so you can go to about any other country in the world and still use your phone - or it was just cheaper to mass produce the radios with everything in it.
Anyway the only thing to change is the APN settings to
Name=Straight Talk
APN=att.mvno
Proxy=proxy.mvno.tracfone.com
Port=80
MMSC=http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy=mms2.tracfone.com
works perfect. However I did just find a small problem. I have flashed both cyanogenmod and Liquidsmooth AOSP ROMS and they do not work with at&t ST sim - when I call the phone it does not answer or register the call at all. Not sure what the problem is, seems like for some reason it is not registering with the at&t network. Trying to find a fix. However, the phone has worked fine with all TW based ROMS I've tried.

Ok thanks for the information but I have one more question... I am rooted with Clean Rom 1.5, do I have to unroot my phone? Will I still be able use wife tether or foxfi? I heard AT&T took foxfi away.

Oops just saw that you messaged me - yes just choose GSM. You do not have to unroot your phone but like I said in the last post - I cannot get AOSP roms to receive or make calls - data works - but not phone calls - which is rather strange and I'm sure can be fixed but nothing I have tried seems to work.

GSM is fine but in reality once you get the right LTE bands turned on, would it be better in global?

What kind of data do you see on AT&T? HSPA+? 3G? 2G?

Straight talk sim card

So I got a att sim card for straight talk. I was wondering if I unlocked my phone and flashed the blaze radio and put in the tmo apns would I run on the tmo towers? I know you can get the tmo one but are they that much different?

I am on T-Mobile and generally run blaze modem, but I also tested straight talk at&t sim for a while. Here are my few obvervations -
1. I think that only at&t towers were being used by straight talk, even with blaze modem. The signal strength was different for each sim. I found at&t coverage in my area better. You need straight talk apn though, having blaze modem would make no difference. So you would need to switch apns if you swap sims (assuming you have two sims).
2. On straight talk the signal was the same regardless of the flashed modem - at&t modem or T-Mobile blaze. And again att.mvno apn was absolutely necessary.
3. However, despite the same signal strength, the blaze modem drained the battery a lot faster as compared to stock at&t ics modem. Even on wifi.
If you have T-Mobile sim card you may find top download speeds with blaze modem a lot faster. However, straight talk connection is more stable. Stability is everything. I hope you have good at&t coverage in your area as I would stick with at&t ics modem. In fact that is the best option, unless you also have a T-Mobile sim and plan to swap it sometimes. But even if you have both, please note the battery drain caused by blaze modem - may not be worth it.
So the blaze isn't stable?

Not as stable as Straight Talk. None of tmobiles modems are really perfect. Better than edge for anyone stuck on T-Mobile but not stable.

I would hardly core that as an source. Additionally, it directly contradicts your earlier assertion.
Check the actual model numbers that Samsung has put forth... there is no such animal as the SGH-I545.

Hey guys...
So, the Verizon S4 is the model named SCH-I545 and it comes with a sim slot, right? Besides, it comes Internationally Unlocked, so it can be used on GSM networks around the world, correct?
Just one more question, does it work on the 850MHz Band for 3G?
I'm thinking on buying one also! Thanks!
I brought the vzw s4 back to india.. but its not working with either vodafone or airtel GSM.
After rooting and installing apn manager and titanium pro I was able to get the data working but that too only 3g.
But the voice n sms is still not working.
I too am lookiblng for a solution but didnt find any, inspite of this being a world phone.

Same issue in India
I am having the same issue. The phone picks up only data signal and not voice or SMS. I have a Note2 purchased from Verizon and it works perfect. I have rooted and was able to install an I9505 ROM Wamma Lite. It picked up the gsm signal for a moment and same issue occured. Can aI9505 modem be iinstalled using Odin which will make the gsm modem primary and CDMA secondary and allow gsm use for voice and SMS. Please help.

Yes, it will work on 850
Straight from Sammy.
"Frequencies and Data Type:
LTE: Bands 4/13
CDMA 1x/EVDO Rev.A: 800/1900MHz
HSPA+/UMTS: 850/900/1900/2100MHz
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900MHz"
I am using my i545 in both CDMA and GSM networks. Didn't try HDSPA, but EVDO Rev.A and even Rev.B, and GSM with EDGE - working properly without problems. Switching between networks - is in the Settings. My phone is connected to two different operators at the same time - to CDMA and GSM.

Are you using CDMA injected? I am using i-545 in Indonesia with local operator CDMA RUIM not successful, will try with CDMA injected.

You shouldn't need to flash to Straight Talk as the Verizon S4 already has an unlocked SIM slot and compatible radios with AT&T and T-Mobile (re-farmed markets) 3G. All you need to do is order a SIM card from them and then enter the APN information for Straight Talk and set the phone for GSM mode. The AT&T SIM card is probably a better choice since some T-Mobile markets still only use AWS for 3G which the Verizon S4 does not support.

[Q] Switching to AT&T

Will AT&T's micro sim work in my Verizon S4 and still function the same? My S4 is MDK base.

Yes, you might have to add the AT&T APN though.
Will i have to flash any different kernels or factory restore my phone or ODIN back to stock? Or can I just insert the micro sim and it will be on At&t? Also, what is the APN i have to enter?

Im pretty sure you can just pop the sim card in and go, a search for galaxy s4 apn settings ATT in google should get you the answer on the other. A buddy of mine just switched to ATT and popped the sim in, and did not have to do anything, but YMMV.
You will get hspa+ and the apn I used on the dna to test it was apn name hspa or att and apn: phone. That was it. Make sure the network mode is on gsm

I am using mine on At&t ... ive had a few issues. 1st, the apn works fine for data but I never got mms working. I did get mms working using go sms pro and having it use its own MMSC settings (same as what I set in the apn settings). 2nd, im on ME7 firmware and I can get a # sign at command prompt but have failed to be able to get supersu and permaroot. This means I havent been able to get to tje secret menu to turn on lte bands 4 and 17. But theoretically should be able to support LTE.
Anyone else have similar issues?
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Another issue I have is the incoming caller id doesnt include the 1 but it does include the + ... which is an invalid dialing combination when calling back a number. Anyone know a setting change for that

I'm currently trying it out. I bought the AT&T compatible sim from their website, and got the APN settings directly from them. Everything seems to work ok.
From what I have read you can get HSPA+ but not LTE when using the AT&T SIM on straight talk with the verizon note 2. Also in 4.3 there is no need to root to update the APN. Otherwise it works fine.
I was thinking about switching but after doing the math my verizon ETF eats all but $40 of the savings over the next 8 months until my contract ends. Will check it out again come September.

Correct. Our phones do have have the AT&T LTE bands. And actually being able to edit APN's was opened up on 4.1.2 without rooting but the thought is still correct.
