Getting into custom recovry - HTC Droid DNA

Hi,
I used Moonshine to successfully S-off my DNA. I planned to flash Viper DNA and as I couldn't find how to enter into custom recovery TWRP(installed through goo.im)I used option within goo.im to reboot into recovery.
Then I took a backup of stock ROM and went ahead to flash Viper 1.35 which I placed in the internal memory and booted into recovery. In the steps given, it was suggested to format Data before flashing. While I cleared System and cache partitions, I didnt clear data section as it had the VIper DNA zip and thought clearing data would delete entore internal memory.
No, my device is in a weird situation where Viper got installed over stock ROM and causing reboots immediately after booting up.Now, before I do anything the device is rebooting to Viper DNA boot animation screen. Not getting time to even shut down the device.
Can anyone please suggest me what to do. Once or twice I could get it to shutdown but dont know how to get into twrp. Please help me get into twrp and clear my confusion in erasing the data before flashing a ROM. Hope I'm clear. Soon, my DNA might be dead without battery. Desperately, waiting for help....
Update : I could finally switch off my mobile. Now, can anyone direct me to get into Twrp please?

You can always shut down by holding power for 10 seconds. This will cause another reboot UNLESS after it powers off you immediately let go of power then push power and volume down simultaneously. This will get you to bootloader and from there you can select recovery. Once you are in recovery I suggest a normal wipe which DOES include data. You can always select advanced wipe and choose which partitions you want to wipe.Your internal storage won't ever be erased but depending on the version of android, its contents may be available in a different root folder after flashing. This is only with 4.2.2 Roms apparently. Your stuff would be in root/data/media. If you are on an earlier version than it should keep everything intact.

Had failed in a few attempts in booting into bootloader in method you suggested. Will try again and get back.New to HTC, so taking time to adapt. Thanks a lot.

While your device is off, hold power and volume at the same time until you get onto hboot (white screen with multicoloured text). Use the volume buttons to scroll down to recovery, and power to select it. Your device will turn off, then come back the the splash screen (white screen with "HTC quietly brilliant" and "Beats Audio" ) with the purple text at the top, "entering recovery". From here TWRP will load. Do an advanced wipe and select "data", "cashe", and "davlik". This will clear /data, but not /data/media, which is where your internal SD storage is. It will leave your internal storage intact. After wiping, flash as normal and reboot. It's good to let the phone settle for about 10 minutes after flashing before proceeding with the setup wizard. Profit.

Finally, I'm on viper DNA. Thanks a lot for detailed replies.

[Q] Stuck on White HTC Loading screen

Stuck on White HTC Loading screen. I was loading CM7 onto my phone for the first time, used Rom manager to load the rom it did the intial restart and went to the white screen. Any help would be awesome.
Pull the battery. Replace the battery. Hold volume down and power untill you see the bootloader screen. Using the volume keys to scroll highlight recovery and then tap the power button to select. Once in recovery (still using volume keys to scroll and tapping power to select) select wipe data/factory reset. Once it does its thing select wipe cache partition. After that is done go to advanced and select wipe dalvik cache. Now choose go back. Once in the main menu select install .zip from sdcard. Then select choose .zip from sdcard. Find the CM7 .zip and select it. ALWAYS flash from recovery NEVER from Rom Manager. It causes issues more.often than not.

Using ROM manager to load ROMs can be problematic. Install ROMs through Clockwork Recovery Mod. If you have Clockwork Recovery Mod installed then wipe your Data, Cache, Dalvik Cache(in advanced) and format system(in mounts and storage). Then choose install zip from SD card. Find your ROM and select yes. If you don't have clockwork recovery mod I'm attaching a version you can install from hboot. Place the file PG05IMG.zip on your SD card and turn off your phone. Hold the volume down button and turn on your phone. It will ask to install the PG05IMG.zip say yes. You will now have clockwork recovery mod installed. Delete the PG05IMG.zip after you have the clockwork recovery installed or next time you boot into hboot it will try to install it again. To access the recovery turn your phone off and then hold down the volume down button and turn on the phone. It will boot into hboot again and select recovery. Once recovery has loaded follow the above instructions to install your ROM.

I had almost the same problem last night. But dont worry.
- boot into recovery (power on while pressing volume down)
- **If you dont have your rom in the SD: then go to mounts and "storage > mount" and connect your TB to your computer and place the zip.
- wipe cache
- wipe dalvik (advanced > format dalvik)
- format system
- Flash your rom
Thanks! Giving it a go now. Had a strange loop that occured due to an old radio file i still had lingering on my sd got rid of it and it appears that cm should be done installing in a few!
Again Thanks x3

[Q] Moron Moment

So I was about to flash a new ROM, wiped data and cache, formated /system, and then remembered that A05PTH3ORY says to get a gps lock before flashing. Not thinking about what I had done I rebooted and now I can't get back into recovery to restore any of my backups. Google tells me it should be power + vol down but it just sits at the HTC splash. Any advice?
You didn't do anything to recovery so it should still be there. Completely turn off the phone (batt pull if need be). Then from a completely off state, hold Power+VolDwn and you will be presented with hboot. Select Recovery and voila.
I guess pulling the battery was the magic trick. Once I did that I just realized I needed to delete the pg05img.zip and now we're back in business. Thanks very much!

Battery pull, make sure your radio file is not hidden on
SD card.

[Q] {HELP NEEDED} Completely bricked!

I was previously running TntLite v4.4 (on BL1.1), but recently it started force closing several applications. Also the battery indicator never ran down from 100%. So I wiped data in CWM and reloaded the ROM, but that didn't seem to help. So decided it was time to find a new ROM.
I tried to first install Vegan, but I think I used a 1.2 BL (doh). So then I uploaded BL1.2 and also latest CWM (latest version posted by DRH team). I successfully nvflashed through APX and rebooted OK into the stock ROM. I uploaded a new 1.2BL ROM (Beasty 2.2.1 +Clemsyn), it worked fine and was uploading all my apps. It powered down fine, but then would not get past the Birds on reboot. Nor could I boot back into CWM.
So went back into APX and nvflashed again, rebooted into stock ROM. *Now* before uploading any new ROMs, it is doing the same thing. Won't power back up past the Birds, can't get into CWM.
And to top it all off, I now can't boot up at all.
HELP! I am now in way over my head!!
Allot of stuff that cannot be explain can be caused by stuff from previous build being left on the internal storage. Typically what I do when changing the bootloader is making sure everything on the internal storage is backed up then wiped clean. After NVflash is complete force the tablet to boot into recovery by keeping the Volume + pressed down while it reboots or holding down the power button during the reboot after NVflash and powering down the device. Then while holding down the volume + pressing the power button to boot into recovery. Wipe date Factory reset, Wipe Cache and Wipe Dalvic Cache. Go into Mounts and Mount Data then Format also Mount System then Format. Then in Advance format Internal SD (Make sure that your external SD card has been ejected) 2048/0. This will ensure that there is nothing on the internal storage and you are starting a clean slate. Last thing is to go into mounts and Mount USB connect Tablet to computer and transfer over the ROM of choice. After tranfer is done safe removal of device through computer and unmount in CWM. Install new ROM.
I really hate to be "that" guy, but I've searched the forum, and cannot get the unit to power back on. I have taken off the cover and pressed the reset button. I've also held down the power button for more than 10 seconds, nothing. Tried the APX and CWM power up combos and nothing.
I'm not sure how this happened. It was running fine in two different ROMs, but once I powered it down properly, it wouldn't come back. At all.

These are common mistakes that I've noticed on the board.
1. If you want to format a partition, just format it. There's no need to mount it first. In fact, you shouldn't.
2. There is no need to format the boot and system partitions separately prior to a ROM install because
a) the boot partition is overwritten and
b) the system partition is formatted by the install process.
3. To wipe all user data, simply:
- Wipe data/Factory reset
or, in extreme cases
- Re-partition the internal SD card, and then
- Format cache.
Otherwise, you're just uselessly repeating steps and wasting time troubleshooting the wrong things.

See if the K1-pad short procedure shown here helps you.
After a few more hours messing around and reading boards, it appears my GTab is operating in APX and couldn't tell. I can access APX through USB. I now wonder if I had a bad BL version (I used the combo DRH version which was posted to use before the ICS ROM - I thought latest was best(?).
I tried to back down to a lower BL (1105 bekit Nvflash?), but the directions are a little confusing. Do I need to install new version of CWM first? And in terms of changing the names in nvflash file, which one?? I am starting now to care whether I get 1.1 or 1.2 working -- just something.
I'm not too proud to admit I am over my head now - I would be thrilled to see the Birds again some day.
Thanks in advance!
Which ROM do you want to install?
If you want to install any ICS ROM, just follow the preparatory steps given in the TeamDRH's ICS ROM thread.
But I can't boot into Clockwork Mode yet, stuck in APX. The GTab will not boot up at all. I have tried reflashing, but that is not helping. It completes the nvflash process, but then on reboot, it hangs on the Birds.
1. Which specific nvflash package did you flash last?
2. See if running this command in APX mode helps:
Code:
C:\SOME\PATH> [B].\nvflash --bl bootloader.bin --format_partition 7 --format_partition 12 --go[/B]
Make sure that you run the command while sitting in the directory containing both the nvflash executable and the bootloader.bin file.

[Q] Need help please!

Well I bought my HTC One Max and a ran out of internal memory but I couldn't move all my apps to my SD card but I needed more space so I decided to root it, so I could have superuser rights and force my apps to the SD, so I installed a custom recovery and installed superuser so everything was right so far but I wanted to remove the tampered flag to enable my fingerprint scanner, so I installed a unsecure kernel I found on a XDA developers post and my phone screen went pink then it rebooted but froze at the loading screen and I couldn't reboot it by holding the power button so I rebooted via adb reboot bootloader and selected reboot but then again froze at the loading screen and this time adb didn't deteced my phone so I had to wait until it ran out of battery then I charged it a 50% and booted into bootloader then selected factory reset but instead of doing a factory reset it took me to the custom recovery I had flashed and instead of having to wait until it ran out of battery I selected on the custom recovery to restore to a previous backup but then it said there was no backup when I remember doing one in the custom recovery so then I selected wipe and selected wipe everything so it wiped all the data on my phone and rebooted but it's still frozen at the loading screen. What do I do now?
PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

I'm trying to help you here. But first, did you backup your stock rom? In this case, I think your problem cause by the insecure kernel during the flash process. If your device stuck at boot screen, hold VOL UP + POWER BUTTON 10secs. Hold VOL DOWN + POWER BUTTON, this will force device to boot into bootloader. If you have the backup, you can restore from recovery. That's option 1.
Option 2, you can try flashing custom kernel @ Lunar Max Kernel @
Keep me posted buddy.

Hey I fixed it by installing the stock ROM and kernels found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2584231. Thanks anyway I reallly appreciate it. Now I just need to find a way to remove the tampred flag without messing it up.(But that's another story!)
Hey man, good to hear you're doing good. This thread maybe helpful removing temper banner. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2549104

Bricked XT910, details inside

Hello folks,
This phone was lying in the drawer for years until I found it yesterday and tried updating Lineage OS. It was on OS 12.
I took a backup in the recovery and tried wiping the phone to install Lineage OS 14.1 (just update wouldn't work for some reason). I could wipe everything but not the internal storage. It kept giving an error, unable to wipe /sdcard. So I wiped every 'partition' individually and it claimed, wiping successful.
When I went back to backup screen to make sure that rest everything is indeed wiping, I saw the sizes of the partitions same as at the time of backup. So I wasn't too sure if it just wasn't getting refreshed or it indeed didn't wipe.
And thats when I got a dumb idea of rebooting the phone.
I thought I have Safestrap installed so it will reboot in recovery anyways, but no, now all I get Motorola flash screen and then black screen.
Any ideas how should I proceed?
Many thanks in advance.
Try
Power off, Hold volume buttons, Power on, release buttons at
Boot Mode Selection Menu> Scroll down with volume down button, to BP Tools, Select with Volume UP button, should boot directly to SafeStrap (if it's still there).

Thanks for a quick reply.
I managed to recover the phone using RSD Lite and the firmware but now struggling to find the rooting files to root and get Lineage on the device. All threads that I am checking have missing files.
It will be great if anyone can share their backup.
Thanks again.
Update:
I managed to install.
I used https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48392009#post48392009 to root
Installed Safestrap and installed lates Lineage build.
4th thread in the sticky had everything.
Thanks again for help.
