can someone help me by telling me how to overcome a problem downloading apps? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

whenever I try to download an app I get this message "your device isn't compatible with this version"
please take into consideration that this is my first android tablet
and I have very little technical expertise
also I don't know the technical jargon or terms used on this site
when I posted my Problem before I was shut down and redirected to another forum
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2398788
which I gathered from the thread that apps in google playstore are not always accessible due to various countries terms and laws
I have used the search engine extensively, read every thread related to my issue and it confused me even more
the apps I need are vital it is life are death
they are Vlingo and Robin
how do I Work around this issue?

Maybe the message is true and the apps are really not compatible with your device
Anyway, there is a plugin for google chrome called apk downloader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2100617 I'm not sure whether it allows you to download apk files that aren't compatible with your device but it may be worth a try. But if the apps crash or just don't work, don't be surprised!

Request Words With Help For Friends

Words With Help For Friends recently updated and the new version is not compatible with the Nook Tablet. In search of the APK for version 2.9.0.
This is a paid app that you are requesting here. Please read the rules about posting and asking for warez.
As such, it shows my NT as an available device from the market.
Yes, I own the legit version of the app and it worked fine till recent updates caused the keyboard to get cropped. The developer does not support the Nook because it's not suppose to have market access.
I found the older version was still posted at the Amazon App store and was able to secure a copy before it was updated.
Thanks for the input.
Why don't you use free online tools by simply opening chrome app and opening the url rather than installing apps for a simple work like this and eating enough memory of the android phone. I generally seek help from https://wordmaker.info/words-with-friends-finder.php for solving riddles

[Q] Alternatives to Google Play

Hi,
First of fall I've searched the forums and found no recommendations so far, except for this thread, which only lists the alternatives.
So, my issue is that many apps on Google Play are rendered incompatible with my Samsung Galaxy Nexus (Stock 4.0.4) after I've changed my DPI.
What I'd like is a good alternative to Google Play which:
i) Contains most of the apps on Google Play.
ii) Doesn't render them incompatible unless there's a compatibility issue with the Android version, or something more critical than changed DPI.
I don't mind using the list in the thread mentioned above, but I'd like to save time on testing by asking you for recommendations. Especially developers would probably know which ones they usually use in addition to Google Play.

There is no other market...
There are unofficial markets. I only found out about there being unofficial ones because of a news report saying how a lot of apps/games have been loaded with some sort of nastyware. For example, Angry Birds Space
worldwideweb.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/2167511/cybercriminals-malware-infected-angry-birds-game-target-smartphone-users
With that in mind I wouldn't really try to venture too far down unofficial markets.
Here is an example, AndroLib, of an unofficial market: worldwideweb.androlib.com
Replace worldwideweb with appropriate meaning
There is absolutely no market comparable to Google Play, that has even remotely as much content as it.
Closest you're going to get is the Amazon App Store.
that market is really the worst thing on android. it has so many restrictions its outwitting itself at times. even under stock i couldn't download a ton of apps with my nexus. but when i sideloaded them it always worked.
what you can do is try hacks, there are several here on xda. i made one for my tablet mode topic, you might wanna try: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1543892 it works for me and a bunch of others.
you might want to try amazon market too
Thanks for the input, from all of you.
Apps loaded with malware isn't even an option, so I guess I'll have to stick with Google Play (and perhaps Amazon App Store).
@molesarecoming: Who's done the hack on the Play app you've linked? (I guess I'm paranoid about malware every time I download something, even on XDA).
i did it, but you can trust me ... i guess.
seriously, i had the same problem that you have right now and i did something about it, no evil intentions.

Thanks for the help. I'll try it out!

I use aptoide store and f-droid
f-droid is really small, but I support it in it's approach (open Software)
aptoide features alot of apps and actually I'm not missing much
NO google-software on my phone!

Aptoide is "quite" good, yes it has a lot of apps because they let people upload any app in their own store.
The problem is that they do not check that published app are owned by the people who publish it, so it contains a lot of hacked apps !
Other serious app stores: amazon, opera

Why is there malware in Android?

Hello everyone.
I've just came up with this thought and I wanted to share it with you. We always hear about how Android is more prone to malware than, say, iOS.
But I'd like to know why. I'm pretty sure that, before releasing an app on the Market (oops, Play Store!), Google makes a thorough validation of it. I find it difficult to believe that Google's guidelines are less stringent than Apple's.
Why, then, or better, whence the malware?
The best answer I could give myself is that malevolent apps are modified versions of pirated software that people download from the Internet. Like, a guy downloads the pirated version of Plant versus Zombies thinking that it's going to be the exact replica of the original (paid) version, but inside the downloaded app there's actually a malevolent piece of code that, then, ends on the webzines.
Hence, two questions for you guys:
Where's the Android malware coming from?
How can Google stop it?
Thank you a lot for your attention, I hope the answers will be numerous!

Well, I've never seen malware that was made from an actual app. They are usually small separate apps with familiar icon or name and (sometimes) tons of temp files so that Asphalt7.apk won't be the size of 123 kb.
I'm not sure that Google checks anything before people report about it. There are numerous hello world apps there
Because androids source code can be seen by anyone it makes android an easier target than ios who keep their code a secret.
Google run a general check, they call their software "bouncer", but if the apps don't do anything suspicious until on an actual device it can miss the malware.
How could they stop all malware? They can't, even the very closed ios cannot stop all malware, but the user has ultimate control because we can see exactly what apps can access before installing them and so it makes it easier to spot suspect apps.

Silent Download APK

I haven't seen this topic and not even sure if its allowed for discussion on here. So I will take a leap and ask it anyways.
Is it possible to install an APK without the person clicking the install or know its being installed?
I know that this is possible on a computer using java. Seeing that apk are java programs. I am wondering if it will work on Android too.
I believe what its called is Java Drive by. I have heard that there is a new trojan or RAT on the net for androids. And see 90% of users don't have an AV on their phone. This program is able to steal your SMS, Pictures, Call logs and Contacts list. There are other key loggers out there that can be installed to capture your passwords. I am just worried about getting hack and 95% of the Android AV's suck and not worth downloading as I have lost files with some or they drain the battery quickly.
If this topic is not allowed here, please for give for asking and please delete it.

Unable to delete the forced ESSENTIAL APP Tiktok

Hi all . Anyone else had the Tiktok app forced onto the A10 after a compulsory update and now on the O/S as an ESSENTIAL APP and cannot be deleted. Even the icon cannot be deleted off the screen.
So for me this is a step too far and wont be buying any Samsung products again. The phone was about to go in the electrical bin but I came across a program called ADB. Anyone used this to delete Tiktok. The app is not even listed in the apps section. So as its built into the O/S can ADB actually delete it permanently. As many are saying its not an essential app and some say its due to a lucrative deal . Odd Samsung wanting democracy yet force this on those who don't wont it globally. Its about blatant lack of democratic choice. I do know some newer Samsung Android owners that have not had it forced upon them. So am wondering if Samsung thought the older phone users may not complain so much is one of just several thoughts that come into mind.
I've not used ADB and see it appears to be used by developers only. In short can it delete this app built into the O/S - otherwise phone goes in the bin. Any non developer done this. I've searched many threads and am surprised no other comments concerning Tiktok as an essential app ? and one must accept it or have no phone. So I have no phone currently. Am looking at alternatives. Hard resets make no difference. Thanks for any info or thoughts on this.
