[Q] What does ME7 improve upon MDK - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

So i know ME7 base fixes the 'purple smear' issue and adds app2sd and the WiFi toggle.
But is there anything else, or is it pretty much just an empty shell of an update?

I think you mentioned the big ones - depending on you viewpoint. It's also a bit smoother AFAIK. I'm on BoneStock and can't really say for the plain ME7 for certain. There is a completely stock version you could try over in the dev section.

is there any ME7 stock Kernel?
i found the Radio.

You pick a good time to ask because I was just about to ask what from ME7 I can add without locking down the bootloader.
I've seen it around the forum before but I can't find it again.
and those who have tried it, how stable has the radio been for you?

ME7 doesn't fix the people smear. It just changes some of the touchwiz backgrounds to a very dark gray.
The people smear is most likely hardware. The GS4 is the first amoled panel to completely shut off the subpixels when displaying black, and it seems the green subpixels just can't turn on fast enough.

idk if i could tell a difference anyway. It's included in the brand new hyperdrive rom that i flashed just a little while ago so i guess i'll find out anyway haha

People keep bringing up the apps to sd function but after reading Verizon's "Change Log" I didn't see it in there. I've read some confirmed rumors online about the updates that went to Germany and the UK having apps to sd but I haven't see it happening in the US nor was it on Verizon's change log.
Can anybody in the states confirm this features existence?

Yes, it does turn it a dark gray, but i found that the purple smear improved somewhat in other areas as well. (100% black) or maybe its just a placebo effect thing.

"Thank you for all of the testing and comments. It is greatly appreciated. We expect the new firmware early next week once it clears Google CTS approval. It should fix the issue that was brought up on a few systems after the update. It appears to us to be a system tools event that is not cleared with a few apps, which is why the manual update generally works as it clears all the tables."
So.. seems they are trying to fix things and square issues away. Always remains to be seen if there will be adverse ripple effects. But there you have it.

No it doesn't, you just think it does as your not realizing what your missing.
The current Asus kernel is not sending the data to the Battery settings to show actual app data. You, and all of us, are only seeing system resources. What you SHOULD see is all the apps listed as well. They need to tweak the kernal for this. They know it.

Huh, I thought all it was supposed to do was to show the few thing it does. Showing How much juice apps use, that could be handy.

Nope.. there "should" be a huge ass list there of ALL your apps and what they are doing. Not those 2-3 system resources. Notice on this image at the bottom you start to see actual apps... that is what that setting is missing and that we NEED Asus to fix. PM Gary, tell him to get his team to fix the kernel and give us true useful Battery info in our settings.
It should resolve the previous issues brought on by the latest OTA.
... wishful thinking, perhaps?

I hope that it fixes the graphics artifacts on some live wallpapers and when pressing the multitasking button as well as the occasional browser and system stalls. (browser is not responding: wait /exit)
These are very visible and I don't know how they haven't made something that would scare potential customers away such a priority.
Ahhh.....completely missed that one.
But in all seriousness, he did mention that, didn't he?

VERY excited for this! Hoping holding out for the official release was worth it
:highfive:
Trust Telus to release the previous OS as the new one is coming out. Still very happy to get media control on my lock screen. :victory:
I just noticed this on the Telus software update page.... http://www.telusmobility.com/en/AB/Software-Updates/index.shtml
It must be imminent.
That would definitely be nice although I don't know that it'd be much better than just using a rom.

I've tried several roms, the most recent being King - Kang and all seem to crash my phone and have strange little bugs and issues that pop up.
King-Kang was crashing my phone 1 or 2 times a day where as I've never had a crash with stock gingerbread. I hope stock ICS can do the same with all the added ICS features.

I'm using it as well and it's working pretty well. I just want to have my S-Pen working though..
On a side note how are your data speeds on the current ROMs? Even with the official ICS out I still get horrible speeds(HSPA ~2Mbps, LTE ~5Mbps download but 14Mbps upload) when I am using stock based ROMs. Only when I am using AOKP/CM9 ROMs I get regular speeds (HSPA ~10Mbps, LTE 20-40Mbps)
Looking forward to this update!

Woke up to the update notification. Installed without a hitch. Lost my Home screen icons so i'll have to redo that but everything else seems good.
I had this Note rooted with King Kang and several other Roms and my counter was in the teens. I reverted back to stock without resetting the counter and just did an OTA update and had no problems.
Had to reload stock recovery and try again, first attempt failed as cwm choked

Nope.... because of my work I have to (more choose to) run stock. I just hit the check for updates and it started to download it.
I let it install because I hoped it was JB but thats what I got out of it. I havent seen much difference in 4.04 and 4.03 and I havent seen anything about it on any site...

This is strange. And very interesting. Thanks for the info. If you notice anything different do report it as you seem to be the only one on 4.0.4. I'm not sure why ATT is updating this phone when the Skyrocket is better in their eyes and they don't even sell this phone anymore...
Im disappointed its not JB. But I am also a little weirded out that there isnt much talk about this other places (despite having an older phone).

Could very well be... I assume Samsung wants to seem like they care for the customers.
SAM did say in their announcement that they "had known about this issue for some time"...this could be an update they had in the pipeline and didnt release because of an upcoming JB release.
Is there anybody else that can try to see if the update is available to them?
Got the update. Menus are a bit different and SW Ver is now 5 instead of 4. Guess that means the radio firmware was upgraded too. Neat.
Here are the updated release notes for this build: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/SupportOwnersFAQPopup.do?faq_id=FAQ00047325&fm_seq=51324
Wonder if this has NFC enabled (doubt it) or if it will be easier to use the NFC enabler from the ported section since the 4.0.3 version wasn't working. Fiancee wants to tension as close to stick add possible, but wants NFC to beam stuff, lol

check out foldermount. might help with the pain of the smaller storage size. basically moves data to the external SD, but leaves a symlink on the internal so that apps, etc that point to that directory can still access the files. obviously not the same as a larger internal storage, but at least it helps.
I didn't figure it was going to take long for the phone to be rooted, and custom recoveries/roms installed. It didn't take long for the GS3 to fall to the modding community.
Once you root, NO MORE OTAS!!!!
People will read that, and still do it anyway, and well, that's on them.
This is the best news I've heard related to Verizon in a long time.

I'm going to try out stock for at least a few days. I'm coming from a DINC2 running CM7 in preparation for this. It's going to be a nice boost in every regard, I think.
The lure of root is tough to beat, though. I've only ever had HTC smartphones, so I've been used to waiting a month or two for root. This might be tough.

Mine has definitely take a massive hit , although I'm on vacation in places with extremely spotty reception (Yellowstone) so it may be worse case scenario (I can't even go half a day with light use sometimes). I've resorted to setting the cpu frequency to minimum when screen off with SetCPU and if has seemed to help.
No battery hit here. If anything, I've seen a slight improvement.
