so I was opening my phone up and guess was a bit careless, cracked the back. tried to find replacements only thing that comes up is ebay for $60. anyone know of any other place that has them a bit cheaper? has anyone just removed the glass and replaced with something else maybe? some piece of plastic, etc I dunno?
side note, why are they that pricey? is it due to NFC and wifi in the back or what?
please don't suggest using a case as I don't want to do that. let's keep it relevant to my question.

I'm about to replace mine for the second time. But when I purchased the phone, I realized its potential for damage was greater than my old EVO...so I got insurance for it. No deductible. Apparently Best Buy is good for something.

m using with the hairline crack still , here in india the back panel costing me almost 120$ , so thought of letting it be like that itself ! no point in investing so much right now especially when nexus 5 is right around the corner , will sell the phone itself and get a nexus 5 , if u havent got any plans like that then maybe you should go for it as 60$ is the cheapest everywhere !

I have a cracked and scuffed touchscreen on my x10 and for $30 on ebay I was going to replace the screen. My concern is that I can get ones from China for half the price of the USA and some say 'Grade A no bubbles' but others do not, are these quality screens from China or will I be diasspointed?
Has anyone had a bad experience replacing their touch screen with the Chinese products? They say OEM but are they from Sony or are they knock offs and is there build quality concerns using the cheap ones?
in my opinoin when it comes to electronics , especially from china, you get what you pay for, id rather pay a little extra knowing that it will be ok
Agreed. With china there's a 99% chance that what you are buying is not OEM. Likely it's very cheaply made.

I was really hoping someone would tell me that they bought a screen from XXXXX on ebay and it was better then the original but I guess I need to decide if I want cheap or quality.
I've already replaced the phone with an HTC EVO 3D but there is alot of life left in this X10 and it is a great platform for hacking and learning android. Plus they make awesome tiny tablets for around the house.

I got white replacement from china which is quite good.. I won't say its authentic, but here in the UK most replacement dealers get there stuff from china anyway.
Buying from China is like cutting out the middle-man, the down side is just you need to wait.. And if you think they are not what you think your money's worth, you could always tell them you did not receive the item and get your refund.
try to buy from best sellers only...otherwise nothing is guaranteed.

Maybe i'm the lucky one, bought one from globalshining on ebay for 20 Euro and thought: well if this aint gonna work, it;s 20 euro's thrown away. But here in my town (germany) they ask 80 Euro for it. After 8 days!!! I received the piece: fitted perfectly but it was at least one hour work to get the overly scratched old one of and the new one on. I did search google for disassembling instructions for the X10 and found one with lots of photo's. Without these instructions, you easily brick your phone.
Regarding GlobalShing: its on ebay, or eshoptradehk dot com I first checked the ebay ratings: then decided to do so..
But do get your own screwdrivers cause the one from China dont fit at all....

i just cracked the front screen on my fone and i need to replace it. would like to replace the whole screen and case.
i googled a few, but i was not sure if they included the front screen cos its the front screen thats cracked.
then i also learnt that the touch module is glued to the front glass screen, will the new case screen also have one attached to it or would i have to remove this one and stick it to the new one?

i just cracked mine too, I just ordered a new digitizer from ebay for $20. I think thats all we need to fix the cracked glass. Anyone know if this is right?

Hi, I cracked my digitiser VERY badly, so I was forced to replace the digitiser... The LED was slightly scratched because of the drop, but I don't mind, it's hardly noticable. I took the phone apart like 3 times:
1 - taking it apart
2 - power button i forgot to put back
3 - had a little of $h!t under the digitiser
Has anyone done a digitizer swap? What was the end result? Were you happy or did it brick your phone?
Any opinions would be nice to hear.

I swapped my digitiser, and so did XDA Recognised Developer for the x10 pvyparts and none of our phones were bricked, it worked perfectly after... Took about 20min to do, I did it during school break because I was bored...

i have tried a couple of different touches an for me so far all of them has been a bit of a dissapointment, the touch works good but the fit is bad. Sensors, proximity particularly, gone bad. sry for really bad eng.
i got my digitizer from ebay china its was pretty good get it with the housing black or white much better then trying to sick the digitizer on the old housing paid around $30 au
i guess at the end of the day all these parts are made in china oem or not

On ebay they go for a little less than $300 for the outer glass, led screen, and digitizer. It is all one piece. You can send it into Samsung for them to fix, the cost for that is $197.
These guys can fix it for fairly cheap. They even have a pretty fast turn around. We use them where I work.

Do you contact these guys to get them to quote you a price first? seems like they do a free diagnostic but would be nice to know what it will COST before i send it to them.

So my wife's brand new G was in the stroller today on a walk with the baby and when the stroller got closed up it fell out onto concrete from like 1-2 feet max. Go figure, the screen now has a giant crack diagonally across it and most of the screen no longer functions, and whats worse is it's the bottom part, making it un-usable. Arrgghhhh. Anyway, she literally just got it and hadn't gotten around to getting a case. We can still get the insurance but the deductible is $200 that we do not even come close to having.
My question is, does anyone have any suggestions? Anyone have any experience replacing the screen on this thing? I saw a tear down guide to open it up, but no idea on what to do with the screen. Good luck, man. I'm not aware of any reasonably priced screens and digitizers. You'd have to replace them both because A) they're glued together and B) they're both broken. Hopefully a good ebay seller has popped up since the last time someone tried to replace their screen. If you live in or near a big enough city you can probably find a cellphone shop that can fix it for less than the insurance deductible, if they can get the parts.

Thanks for the responses guys. Looks like it would be around 165-180 to get the stupid thing fixed and 200 to get a new one. Thinking of getting a new one for the 200 and selling it as i think i could get 300-350 for it, then using the difference to get something else. ****ty, but that's life. I'd look into a square trade warranty, that's what I have and the same thing happened to mine. Its $99 for the insurance and the deductible is only $25. They'll either send you a new phone or pay for repair. They sent me a brand new one from amazon and I got 2 days after filing the claim.
Also when you make an insurance claim through AT&T they want the broken phone back
I checked out Square Trade this morning and it looks like the deductible is now 100 and you either have to do a two year deal at 7 per month or 125 for the two years, so it would end up being more expensive than just dealing with the ATT option, not factoring in the warranty over the two years.
@gunnyman- Wouldn't every warranty option make you give them the broken phone? Seems like if not, you would be able to just file fake claims as often as they permit them and repeatedly sell a new product for a gain.

Yes of course I was half asleep when I read what you wrote about selling a phone. I read it as selling the broken one.
I got a screen off ebay for 86.77 with free shipping, I was gonna put a link but I dont have enough posts here on xda but if you copy and paste the following in ebay it should be the first listing you see:
New ASSEMBLY LCD Display Screen+Touch Screen Digitizer For LG Optimus G E970
It did take a couple of weeks to get to me being it's from china. I must say that I was pleasantly suprised with the quality of the screen :laugh: (at least the one I got) with the added bonus of it not having the lg logo. The guy that did the teardown post said it looked hard to take of the screen but it's actually not, just pop off the two ribbon connectors (one is for the digitizer, the other is for the LCD) then you just have to do some prying on the screen since its glued on, and once you get it off you pull the two connector through this slot that they have to pass through. Once you get it out you'll see how easy it is to put the new one on. And instead of glue I just used two sided tape around the edges of the screen. Been using it for two weeks with no problems. Hope this helps.
*EDIT* Forgot a step, you should heat up the broken screen with a blow dryer or heat gun to soften the glue before prying it off, It shouldn't be so hot that it's hard to handle though.

Got a random code off google and it was $95 for 2 years with a $99 deductible ($194 total for 1 claim over 2 years).
Better than att $7/mo plus $199 per claim ($369 total for 1 claim over 2 years)

All right, so I decide to take my precious GNII out of it's case for like an hour, 'cause I haven't held it without one for a while. Low and behold, I drop it clumsily onto my kitchen floor and the screen cracks on the upper left-hand corner. Thankfully it's not the entire screen, but it's glaringly obvious and super upsetting. I can definitely feel it with the s-pen.
I was wondering what you guys think I should do? I could probably deal with it for another year, but I want it to have re-sale value. Putting up with it also isn't the idea I'm fondest of. Would I get used to the cracks eventually? Money definitely matters here, considering I'm just a high school student without a job.
I looked up some videos on screen replacements, and it appears that if I just wanted to replace the glass (which would be cheaper than LCD, digitizer, and glass), I would have to do this entire thing with a hair dryer and what not. Should I do that? Or is it not worth the hassle? If I don't want to do that, would I have to shell out 250$ dollars for a full ditigzer+glass replacement? Is there anywhere I could send it that you recommend?
I feel whine-y coming to you guys with my problem, but I'm pretty desperate here. Again, I really, really appreciate any help that you could afford to give to me at all. Thank you so much and have a great day.

Staples sells screen replacements over the counter, sort of, you pay, send off in contained envelope, phone gets returned fixed, devices vary by brand and size of course, may be worth giving them a call, craigslist also seems to have local service adds in for sale section, search cracked screen, or screen replacememt, places doing iphones and ipods would/should have the capabilities.

Ive done the thing we all dread and cracked the LCD on my dell streak 5, its the LCD under the top glass and the rest of the phone still works.
I really want to replace it and all that i can do if i can find the LCD to buy online, i looked on ebay and found the screen for £70 ish, as the phone itself can be found for that much i dont want to pay it.
Does anyone know of a place that sells the scree for less than that, or does anyone here have one to sell.
Im looking to spend around £30 for just the LCD as i dont think its worth much more than that
Id like to fix it as its a really good phone and even if i do upgrade id like to keep it around.
