{ROM] 4.3 Linaro/-o3 CM10.2. Need to flash boot.img via heimdall. Help - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

Hi, I flashed the above ROM (but not the newer UNOFFICIAL one) and have lost CWM. A BOOT.IMG file has been posted in the forums and the instructions to flash with Heimdall. I am not familiar with the procedure to do this but I have installed the correct drivers. Can anyone give me any pointers to flash this boot.img file? Thanks!!

Ok, Put phone in download mode and connect USB, Loaded frontend, selected "Flash", loaded my PIT file, Clicked ADD, selected "RECOVERY" from the drop
down menu, Clicked "START" 100% successful flash but still no CWM Recovery mode. Just a black screen if recovery attempted.
Have I missed something? Really miss CWM

need help, no wifi after install kernel, cubed or lk-dna

Hello, I have a dna rooted, I tried to install as described, two types of kernel, but do not make me turn on wifi ...
and when I had the stock kernel everything was fine, what determines this?
Did you flash the modules?? If you did try to re-fastboot the kernel again. I had the same problem and fastbooted the boot.img again fixed it
Sounds like you are not flashing the modules.
Open up the zip for a Rom, inside there should be 2 things. A boot.img to flash in fastboot or with flash img gui. And another zip to flash in recovery.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
in the zip for the kernels, you will find a boot.img and a modules.zip. flash the modules AFTER flash the kernel using the flash image gui or fastboot.
in simpler words,
1. flash boot.img using the flash image gui app in the play store (search it) OR use fastboot/adb. either works.
2. in your RECOVERY flash the modules.zip. problem solved
many thanks ,
first time i've don't flash with image.boot
after flash whit image.boot , it's all ok
some kernel not require this flash mode ..

I'm have an issue with the wifi not turning on (it stays grey saying turning on but never does) all other radios work, just not wifi. I have flashed the boot.img several times to make sure. in regards to the modules.zip, I see a folder but it is not a .zip are we supposed to zip this then flash it? I cant get wifi to run on any rom except for stock. I am s-off if that helps solve anything.

[Q] Stuck on Sony Logo

So I thought of installing a new ROM to my XZU today. First I rooted my device using the following guide : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkQT3nX5yWM. (As I had updated my device to Android 4.4.4 and had .108 FW). I successfully rooted the phone and took a TA Backup. Afterwards, I went on to unlock the bootloader and unlocked it successfully as well. As I wanted to install the ParanoidAndroid 4+ ROM, I downloaded it and got the boot.img from the ZIP file, and flashed it using the Flashtool. However, afterwards, when I tried to go the recovery mode, it is stuck on the Sony Logo, and doesn't blink the notification LED in order to do so.
Did I do anything wrong? I am quite a noob when it comes to XZU related stuff..so I would really appreciate if someone can help me out..
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: (Thought of editing this thread rather than deleting it so that it could be an help for someone who faces a similar problem) I was able to make my device up and running again by flashing the FTF found in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2798690.
Now, I have again come to the status where I have installed a recovery successfully and unlocked my bootloader, and I want to install PA 4+ to my device. Would really appreciate if anyone can guide me on how to do this
It doesn't sound like you did any thing wrong.
Do you have [NUT]'s recovery installed now?
Do a nandroid backup if you do, saves the whole flashing a FTF step if something goes wrong
Did you get the correct PA? what date?
PA should install fron [NUT]'s recovery or you could hotboot the boot.img with flashtool (this wont over write you current kernel) this will let you test if it does work

Thank you. Yes, I read quite a lot yesterday and found out that I have followed the steps properly. So I am wondering if it has got anything to do with the boot.img from the PA ROM?
And yes I did a nandroid backup previously as well, however, I was not aware of how to restore it because I couldn't access the recovery mode. Can I do the restore using the FlashTool? or some other tool in such a scenario?
I downloaded "pa_togari-4.5-BETA1-20140805.zip" available in this link: http://aospal.hostingsharedbox.com/aospal/roms/togari/ . Should I try the last stable release rather than the beta one?
I am sorry for this noobish question, but what exactly is the purpose of "boot.img"? Is it the kernel of the new ROM that I am going to install? or is it something else? I kinda think that the problem might have been with the way I flashed the boot.img previously. I used the option "SELECT SYSTEM TO FLASH" under the fastboot of FlashTool in order to do so. Is it wrong? Should I use the "SELECT KERNEL TO FLASH"?
Thank you again
EDIT: I used the "SELECT KERNEL TO FLASH" option in the Flashtool, to flash the boot.img and I was able to flash the PA 4+ successfully! ..Thank you!

Normally the way to recover would be to flash a boot.img that works and then enter recovery rand restore, easy when you flash the boot.img correctly

The boot image is the kernel and recovery backed into one (it's a Sony thing ) and it belongs on the /boot partition
I kinda think that the problem might have been with the way I flashed the boot.img previously. I used the option "SELECT SYSTEM TO FLASH" under the fastboot of FlashTool in order to do so. Is it wrong? Should I use the "SELECT KERNEL TO FLASH"?

I think you have figured that one out now :cyclops:. So what you did was write the kernel and recovery to the /system partition, not to where it belongs ie /boot
You can also use the "select kernel to boot (hotboot)" (or what ever words it uses) to boot a kernel/recovery and not change the one on the /boot partition - can be handy at times
I hope that helps you understand some bits about your new Sony ZU
Yep! thanks a lot for your help! Really appreciate it! :victory:

TWRP and ROM flashing help

So I flashed TWRP onto my phone the other night, wouldn't flash with fastboot. Found a TOT file and flashed that which worked, however I can only get into recovery by using adb commands. I can't do it from the phone at all. And whenever I try to flash a ROM I just get error 7. I don't know what's going on with this, but I feel like my TWRP install was probably done wrong or it was a bad file or something. But I was looking all over to find out how to do it. My phone's on stock 6.0 currently. I guess what I'm looking for is a way to flash everything back to stock first, then go about flashing a recovery and a ROM from there.

Hi,
I'm unsure if this method will work for you, but I also had "preloader Error message" in FlashTools trying to flash TWRP in Stock Rom 2016810 while trying to flash the Eragon ROM.
As the Stock ROM you are using (20171201) is kinda newer than stock 2016810 Im kinda assuming it should work the same.
In order for it to flash without errors, I did the following and worked fine :
Use FlashTools ver v5.1612 - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24591000424940027
Download your stock rom 20171201
https://mega.nz/#!atZAyKxb!i6jpNQNR_VZZ3nS79LhL2xi78WHx7XI4gKFllc8 RJKw
Then download TWRP_3.0.2.8.zip here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24727369092696060
Unzip all and and copy the "MT6755_Android_scatter" & "recovery.img" from TWRP_3.0.2.8 folder into the Elephone_P9000_20170112 Rom folder.
Then open Flash Tools - add the scatter file from the Elephone_P9000_20170112 Rom folder
Untick everything in flashtools except the recovery and then try to flash, hopefully it will work for you too. without errors '

Hi, I think this maybe to do with the new preloader etc..
I read this in the thread for TWRP for Elephone P9000 3.0.2-8:
1. load scatter.txt in earlier post.
2. select preloader, lk and boot imgs, location of these from the stock 20160810 ROM.
3. select recovery, location of TWRP img.
4. unselect everything else.

So maybe Unzip the 20171201 Rom, copy TWRP scatter & recovery.img to this folder, open flash tools and select recovery and point to recovery.img
But also select preloader, lk and boot img (double check they are pointing to corresponding files from the 20171201 ROM
Again, I am unsure if that will work but as I noticed the above post in the TWRP thread, thought it maybe relevant to your issue
PS: Windows 10 can be awkward with splash tools at times, I have windows 10 but in order for it to work - I have to press the Download in SplashTools, kinda count to 5, then hold vol + and then attach USB to my phone and it works fine
If your device already rooted, you can also install flashyfi and flash the .img file.

I've wasted countless hours trying to get spf to work with my windows 10 machine. Your solution worked like a charm, the flashing was successful (managed to get the process to work when before I was getting only preloader errors), however I still don't have twrp but the standard android recovery. Have you got any other solution that I should try? Cheers.

Have you tried pressing power and then keep finger pressed on vol up to go straight to TWRP recovery and then flashing a new ROM in TWRP ?
I didn't do that as I didn't have another rom saved in my phone. What I eventually managed to do was flash the official nougat via spf tool. I'm saying eventually because this piece of crap windows 10 didn't want to make the connection even with the volume up button. When I was going to give up and order a new phone, it connected and now I am happy even though I don't have twrp nor root, but not going to risk it again. Thanks again for your help though, greatly appreciated.

But great yous sorted out
Root twrp Step by step for newbeee-
Ok,so I've installed TWRP 3.0.2-8 and when I start the phone it goes into the recovery... what to do next? Can I find a tutorial somewhere how to do this? And wich image can I use or is the best for the moment?
thx for helping...

Flashing Recovery

Hi,
I was trying to flash twrp to my friends s3, and we did everything correctly. Using Odin we flashed the .img file. But it didn't work. Having some previous experience with this, I tried flashing an older version of twrp, but it still didn't work. If anybody has any ideas on how to get it onto his phone, please respond.
Thanks.
@Chattamax: for Odin, you need tar-file, of course.

.img and .tar both work. The main download on twrp website also is an .img
@Chattamax: you can't flash an img by Odin. On TWRP for i9300 you get each version as tar-file, too.
(img are for updating within TWRP or installing from command line)
Ah, I see.
So I just flash the .tar instead.
Ok I'll try that, thank you.
